F1 2002 for GameCube Videos >>
Summary Overall not a bad gameSound Didn't really pay much attention, but the engine sounds are good for the in car modes but i find the track noise drowns out everythingGameplay The game play is as good as any of the other formula one games out there, with the exception of GP3 on the PC. The Simulation driving mode is rediculous though, you can't feel the changes you've made on the setup apart from the down force. The car oversteers till the tyres are up to speed then a lap later you find the wheels lock by touching the brake and understeers like hell. The normal mode is too similar to arcade type games and its too easy to drive. The weather is probably the worst feature. When its on variable it changes about three times EVERY race.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. F1 2002 is a SIM, as in driving simulation. It's not meant to be an arcade racing game. There are no rockets to shoot and you don't kill anything (except all your free time). MarioKart this ain't! If you aren't in it for realistic driving, then don't bother buying or renting the game. Having played GT2 and Colin McRae Rally 2.0, I was looking to find a F1 SIM to round out my driving games. I found it rather expensive (CAD$79), but it's worth every penny. So, if you are a total F1 buff or a racing sim freak, buy it! Otherwise, rent it first.Sound I have to give this great game a "4" for sound. The sound is not bad, but gets boring after a while. Perhaps variations on engine sounds? Also, tire screeching is too soft, so it's hard to tell when your are going to lose traction. Also the cheering couds are very generic. There is no music during driving as this a SIM. I doubt F1 cars had radios.Gameplay This is a SIM, as in simulation. The driving physics are very realistic, especially when you venture into the game's simulation mode. I'm waiting for a decent wheel for the gamecube, as the control pad controls are a bit sensitive. Touch the grass by just a pixel and you are counted out in the training module. All the FIA rules can apply here, and you can race the whole season and every lap of every track in it. Then there is pit and race strategy. WOW! Let's just say, you cannot finish this game in one sitting. Let's not even try!Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I have read the reviews of this game, and I'm quite puzzled as to what people are looking for in a Formula 1 game. I have played 3 versions of this game from PS2, XBOX, and now the Cube. To say that the graphics are worse than PS1, is a bit on the rediculous side. I have to say though that I was a little dissapointed with the graphics, not that they were bad, but not as sharp as the other two systems. Having said that, it does not take away from what is an otherwise awesome F1 game. People who judge this harshly obviously dont know a thing about Formula 1. EA leads the way in this genre of gaming, and really has no equal. Not much has changed between this game and F1 2001, but there wasn't much needed to be changed in the first place.Sound What can I say!!! Absolutely Awesome!!!. Just like the real thing.Gameplay Gameplay is very good, with the interactive pits, engine failures, rain, tire degradation & good frame rates. All 17 real life tracks are beautifully represented. Again only hardcore F1 fans need apply here.(Sorry fantasy gamers, no turbo thrust or machine guns on these cars.) If your looking for fantasy tracks or wall shortcuts, better stick to something less sim.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary While it isn't the worst game I have ever seen, it is most definitely a bad one. Plus, it is a bad port of F1 2001 from the Playstation 2 from last year. Why does Nintendo always get last year's hand-me-down versions from Sony all the time? Regardless, I didn't like it and you will get bored with it quickly - sim or not.Sound The guy who talks to you from the pits sounds like a robot (You are now in....15th....place.......Montoya......has won the race). Car engines sound realistic enough.Gameplay This is definitely more of a sim than an arcade type racer, but it's not very captivating even at that. With the combination of shoddy graphics and borng gameplay, it get real old way too fast.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I must have played a different game than the other review on here. Great game. All the tracks with all detail. All drivers available to choose from. This is not your hit the gas and go racing game. It is in fact a real racing simulation. Do not forget that point. If you are a hard core racer, and fan of F1(the worlds second most spectated sport), you will really love this game.Sound Sound is excellent. Most cube games have excellent sound. So they would have to try to mess this one up. Good thing they didnt. Typical F1 game, the car sounds great, especially from the in car view. After that, the norm...surrounding cars making that infamous F1 sound. You pit guy comes through great. The sound in the rain is done well. Again, RACING SIM. No music, etc, just the car(s) and you pit guys. THe fans do appreciate a good pass as well!Gameplay Again, being a racing SIM, you must do a number of things. Mastering the tracks, the variable weather, tire selection(hard or soft, rain or dry, pit strategy(1, 2 or 3 stops) are all a part of being able to run at the front. The behind the helmet view when it rains is outstanding. Beads of water hit you visor and run off from the wind. Attention to detail was not left out. Things like hands moving on the paddle shifter when you shift gears. All the F1 rules can be implemented if you are man enough. I am, but sometimes they catch you speeding in a yellow section and you didnt get a chance to slow down. Other than that, the rules are enforced just like on Sunday. The communication from your pits keeps up with the action almost dead on. You also get a very good sense of speed of the cars. The track layouts are just about perfect. All the details are there. Monaco, well, monaco is monaco. Great detail and cool race, but I hate running there. The rest of the tracks are fantastic. If you watch F1, you will know a lot of them already. If you get interactive with your pit stops, and try to not slow down as much, your fuel man will get the nozzle stuck in the car for a few extra precious seconds. This game has about everything you could want from a sim.REMEMBER, IT IS A SIM. Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I foolishly thought that this would be as good or better than the PS2 version. But, it blows. If you are a GameCube owner that's been anxiously waiting to see how the EA Sports line will look on the little console, this is a bad start. Hopefully the rest of their lineup (NHL, NBA Live, Madden, etc.) looks and plays better than this one. I am really disappointed because I have been waiting for this one for quite some time. Good thing I'll be able to return it for a refund...Sound Didn't really pay too much attention to the sound because I was searching too hard for any redeeming qualities in the gameplay. Must be fine, because I didn't make a point of it during my time with the game.OVERALL: DO NOT BUY THIS! If you absolutely HAVE to, make sure you get it from a store that lets you return it even if it's opened. Otherwise, you'll be stuck with a frisbee for your pet rat. Gameplay Where to begin? Unbelievably twitchy steering controls, unacceptable frame rate, limited options and modes compared to the PS2 version and a miniscule, unreadable font in all of the menus. Really looks like they rushed this one out or just didn't care too much about it at all.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member.
