Summary Starfox Adventures is a big improvement off of the annoying flying games such as Starfox 64, though you still do some flying in this game. It is an over-all zelda like game that features an overworld, temples, and strategic bosses. It involves dinosaur enemies and friends. It's an overall great adventure. Not to mention the female fox is kind of hot!Sound The sound is ok, no real comments about it.Gameplay The gameplay is pretty good. I like the fighting do to the staff that fox uses. I love the scenery of Dinosaur Planet. It is just plain fun to walk around the whole planet. The bosses are fun to fight, and enemies are fun to beat up on. The little dinosaur that follows fox is a little annoying though.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary WOW this has got to be one off the best adventure games ever!! this game was great heres the deal. Fox needs money Pepper the dog(his comander)gives him an assignment on dinosaur planet 4 spellstones were stolen and it ripped 4 big sections of the planet off. you have to get the stones back to their temples and bring the planet back together again. while you are doing this a girl fox calls out to you for help. now while searching for the stones you have to search for these spirits to free the girl. the game has many side quests and extra things to do like play fetch with a baby triceratops (you herd me). the only 2 down sides to this game that i could find were ther are only 5 boss battles and he seems to excited when he gets a new item.Sound the sound is also very good in the game. you can hear the grass rusleing the birds singing it makes for a peaceful environment (dang i am out of root beer) without a bunch of dinosaurs attacking you. this game is well worth it.^_^Gameplay the gameplay in this game is good. if you have played the 3-d Zelda games you are in good hands, if not it is still easy to get down. 90% of the time you are on foot the rest of the time you are in your arwing. the arwing play is the same as the 64 but with better graphics. while on foot you run around through diverse environments doing diverse things like fighting t-rex foot soldiers or saving something. although they are limited the boss battles are fun. some of the puzzles are challenging but if you ever get stuck just talk to the frog (2nd game i reviewed that had something to do with a frog, Sonic DX).Would you like to Comment? Success!Sound The only I have a problem is the dumb dino who follows you everywhere saying random stuff. But other than that the music is nice and cool.Gameplay The controls are soo easy to learn and fun to use. It's not too easy so you are bored out of your mind but not so hard that it's a pain to play it.Would you like to Comment? I loved the storyline and the concept of Dinosaur Planet, and I think this has the richest plotline of them all. However, they could have done a MUCH better job with the Arwing sequences, and I missed Falco.Sound Perfectly done sound. Period.Gameplay The Gameplay was great, but it copied Zelda Ocarina of Time a bit. All in all, it's a very easy to control game.Would you like to Comment? This Game Is The "Zelda Of StarFox" One Kid Posted "How Dare Thay Steal Zeldas Idea, At Least Zelda Grabed You From Your Seat And Dident Let Go, Unlike This" This Game Grabs You, Squezzes You,And You Won't Stop.My Tip BUY THIS GAME YOU WONT BE DISAPOINTED AT ALL. And Age Dosent Matter I Am 14 And My Freind's Brother (Who Has This Game And Likes It,)Is 27. You Can Be 7 Through 99 You Will Still Love This Game Sound Sound Is Great To, However The Voice Of Fox Sounds Like It Changes From Time To Time But Don't Let That Sotp You Ships, Dinos, Footsepes, Erevy About This Game Thing Is Great.Gameplay Yes The Puzzles Are Shabby But Look At Mario 64.Puzzles? In Mario Yha Right. And Mario Was Good. The Gameplay Is Kainda Like A Mix Of Zelda/Jet Force Gemni/Starfox 64. Summary Whoah, I knew this game would be great the moment I heard there'd be a star fox for the gamecube, but I had no idea to what extent. This is the best darn game I have EVER played. The graphics are nothing short of revolutionary, with everything perfectly rendered. The developers have mixed many different styles of gameplay to keep you glued to the screen for hours on end. The only slight flaw: too much dinosaur planet, not enough star fox.Sound While the musical score in SFA is not orchestral, there's a variety of suitable tunes and rythyms. My favourite so far is the battle theme when fighting Galdon, the huge evil reptillian boss thing. The music is fast-paced, and makes you think of the words 'uptight' and 'antsy'. This is quite suitable, as you have to stay alert when Galdon shoots flaming rocks at you from above. An excellent effort for the sound section of the game, rare.Gameplay Well, this is one of the games where the scenery is constantly changing, so you can't JUST put down the controller and say, "OK, three hours is unhealthily long to have played, I might go for a walk." You think to yourself, "I can't beat the game in three lousy hours, I gotta go for nineteen!" And so, you're stuck there. The gameplay is fun, challenging and very unique. Many people will find somewhere that gameplay and controls are similar to zelda 64 in many ways, but this is hardly a minus for the game. It's still one great action/adventure.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I was very impressed with this game. The story it follows is unique since it isn't the same old fly around and shoot stuff like the last Star Fox games. This is a true adventure game. The graphics are very impressive. You can see Fox McCloud's fur waving in the wind. The water effects are also very realistic with reflections, ripple effects and such. The music and sound effects are brilliant and help immerse you into the game. Oh yeah, can't forget that Foxy Fox Krystal, wow... Anyway, all the old characters are there. If you're a fan of Star Fox, you might be disappointed. There are short intervals of flying around and shooting stuff, but the game is mainly a 3-D plat former. It plays a lot like the Legend of Zelda. If you're a Zelda fan, you'll love this. In Star Fox Adventures you play with the story, not for the story. What's really cool is all the characters speak to you, so you don't have to read subtitles all the time. There wasn't any bad acting for character voices either. There are a couple things about the game, however, that I didn't enjoy. One of these things is the method for accessing items in the game. I get tired of having to search through an assorted list of items every time I want to do something. There is one button I can store any item of my choice for quick access, but still, only one storage button? If only there were more buttons on the Game Cube controller. The other thing I wasn't impressed with was the fighting action. The only button you use to attack enemies with is 'A'. By moving the control stick around in random positions and pressing 'A' you unlock different combo moves, but I don't have very good control over the battles with enemies. Everything is pretty much automated when you fight with enemies. Every time you sweep past an enemy, Fox automatically locks onto it and you circle around the enemy while you fight. Aside from the slow method of gaining access to items and the fighting, this game is pretty good. I give it 4.5 out of 5 for great music, sound effects, story, graphics, and character interaction. Oh yeah, the cute character Krystal also made this a fantastic game to play. Sound The sound isn't annoying. The music helps immerse you into the gameplay. The character voices are also very good. There isn't any bad acting. Sound effects are also excellent. You can hear the crunch of footsteps as you walk, the wind sweep past your ears on the shore line, and the drip of water on the top of a cave.Gameplay Not a lot of action when you fight enemies. The only good action is when you're flying around in your Arwing. The game has good story line flow. The characters are fun to talk to and the game length is decent. Star Fox Adventures keeps you hooked with its variety of events. You don't simply run back and forth between some series of dungeons.Would you like to Comment? Along your journey you must collect 4 spellstones 6 krazoa spirits and you recieve staff upgrades such as staff boost fire blast ice blast earthquake and much more accompaning you along the way is Prince Tricky of the earthwalker tribe. Although he gets annoying at times he helps you out greatly during the gameSound The sound in this game matched its surroundings perfectly. It set just that right mood to where you were. The only bad thing was the fight music got a little repetitive.Gameplay The gameplay on this game is amazing it and compares to zelda ocarina of time greatly. This is the best adventure game i have ever played. As you go on your journey you meet many different tribes and must complete your missions in each area. The bosses were pretty easy throughout the game and Andross coming back was a great surprise. The only thing that annoyed me about this game is when i finally beat Andross i went to the entrance screen and it said i only had 99% done still and the only thing i could do was keep facing AndrossWould you like to Comment? For me it is a dk64-clone, but a very good one. The only thing, in comparison to dk64, that differs, is the linearity of sfa. but that doesn't matter 'cause sfa impresses by superb grafix, artwork and sound! Sound The sound always fits into the game andcreates the perfect athmosphere for every setting. some tunes for the nostalgic players. what else do you want. Gameplay The controll of fox is absolutly tight and responsive. There's really nothing to complain about contolling the fox. The missons and quest are not that difficult, so the game can be played at every age >6!!! The gameplay offers you to run from one point to the next. On that way, from point to point the gamer has to fight some dinos or has to use his abilities to open new ways. the fighting-system lacks of tactical background. a small minus here. sometimes fox does these nice flightmissions which all of you know from the n64. well done! A nice add-on is tricky. I like the way he behaves and when he laughes about your death. Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I really, really wanted to like this game.As a long time fan of Starfox series of games, its creator (Rare), and the action/adventure genre in general, I had high hopes that this title would keep me glued to my seat, my senses constantly overloaded, and I would be overwhelmed with the need to keep playing. So what went wrong, you may ask? Here's the story... years after their battle with Andross, Fox McCloud and crew are left jobless and broke, so much so that Falco, Fox's longtime friend and fellow flight ace, is MIA. All is changed with a distress signal from Col. Pepper, saying that Dinosaur Planet has broken apart, and great money will be had if Fox and crew can get it back together. Whether or not you'll want to is another story. Sound I have to say the soundtrack is also pretty good. The battle music is pretty tribal and driving, which is appropriate. Dinosaur Planet has a tranquil, peaceful theme, and even the opening theme is pretty good. And the voice acting... Ahh, the voice acting... man, is it bad. Fox is the only voice I can tolerate in the game. Remember the annoying sidekick I was mentioning earlier? Well, part of your quest is to bring "Prince" Tricky, a triceratops-looking youngster, back to the village in one piece. Truth be told, he's more of a dog than anything. And he's REALLY annoying. "Dum-de-duuuuuuuuum", "I'm huuuuuuuungryyyyyyy", "HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIT FOR MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!", and many other wonderfully ear-piercing quotes can be yours if you chose to play this game. One of the options in controlling Tricky (other than "Dig") is "Stay Here". Too bad he can't stay away forever. Gameplay If you are expecting a classic shooter ala the other Starfoxs, you will be sorely disappointed. There's VERY little flying in this game. If anything, this game is more like the Nintendo 64 classic "The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time". In fact, it rips off Zelda so much that if I were Shigeru Miyamoto (creator of the Zelda series), I'd be at Rare's doorstep with a court summons and a baseball bat.Seriously, go play the two titles side-by-side and you can see the glaring similarities: Fox McLink's, er, McCloud's fighting animations, the constant use of bombs, the annoying sidekick (more on that later)... it's all here. But Zelda, at least, had charm. Zelda had secrets. Zelda had a plot that hooked you from beginning to end. Zelda gripped you and never let go. Starfox Adventures is too straightforward with a simple plot, hardly any secrets (oh boy, well coins... YAY), no challenge, and not enough incentive for the average (or hardcore, for that matter) gamer to press on. Would you like to Comment? Summary Well I have to say the this was one of the best games I've tried for Gamecube, one of my favorites!I always liked starfox, but never imagined to play an adventure game with fox in it!The game is pretty good, but I would have wished that it would have been longer, with more levels, secret weapons, mini games, costumes for Fox etc.It was similar to Zelda Ocarina of time in gameplay but it lacked the charm and the ability to mess around and do things not exactly to do with your main task!Andross surprised me at the end tough, lol!I would like to have another starfox Adventure game for Gamecube, but a bit more Zelda like. One more thing:I dont know what's up with Tricky, when he suddenly dissapears ans reappears once you cleared some hard terrain! And then in the Volcano temple you have to help him cross a pool of lava?Sound The sound is wonderful!Nothing more to really be said here!Gameplay The Gameplay was almost like Zelda64 except it was enhanced in some ways, like the combos, but it was lacking the diving underwater ability and the good camera of Zelda. The targeting was O.K but since it is automatic,it is annoying when you are trying to run away from something and fox looks at every enemy he sees!Would you like to Comment? Summary I have never waited this long for a game to be released in my entire life! But was it really worth the wait? The answer: yes. This game has a few obvious flaws, but for the most part, it is great! It is the longest game for Gamecube, although the promised 60-80 hours of gameplay was a total lie; I beat it in about 30 hours total. I also WAS NOT using a guide or asking friends for help. The bosses are pretty darn cool, but there isn't enough of them. Two of them aren't even REAL battles( flying ship & sharpclaws on gliders). Basically, there are only four real boss battles. The gameplay is really fun, except, there is way too much walking in the game. My smallest complaint would be the annoying cutscene shown every time you find a new item. My biggest complaints are the drops in framerate and the repetitive objectives. But really, this game is great!!!Sound Wonderful music, great sound effects, Yep, that sounds like a Rareware game, doesn't it?Gameplay Although you won't want to quit playing it, some of the gameplay is very annoying. There are only two types of puzzles. They are either rediculously difficult or rediculously easy. Collecting isn't as boring as in Donkey Kong 64. The main objective is fun to try to reach, and so are the secondary objectives. The levels are magnificent, and each have their own unique creatures. The gameplay is also VERY linear.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I reserved this game 3 months before it came out because it looked totaly alsome. I was very dissapointed. You start off the game as crystal and you are on a terridactal. You are fighting this flying ship. What happens is the general scales is taking over dinousar planet. Crystal loses her staff and later in the game fox gets it. I didnt get much farther then that because this game was very boring. All you do is walk around looking for whatever it tells you to look for. The only weapon you have is a staff. If you leave dinausaur planet you have to go in your ship and go through rings to get back. That part is very idiotic the way rareware did it. The only game that Rareware ever made that was good was Donkey kong country 1. If I were you I would buy a differant game then this one for fifty bucks. Well maybe if you are a diehard fan of starfox then maybe you will like it. I liked the starfox on the snes but I hated the one on the n64. The only bad guys you fight are these aligator looking dudes that if you hit two times with your staff they die. There is also a store were you can buy stuff that you need like maps or lanterns etc. The money you have are bugs that run away when you find them.Sound The sound is way dumb. The background music gets very boring. When the people talk they sound very dumb. The sound is a major flaw in this game.Gameplay The gameplay is ok but could be better. The controls are pretty easy but I hate the fact that you cant jump. Later in the game you get fireballs you can shoot out of your staff but everytime you want to use it you have to click C and click over untill you find it then click A then aim at your target and then you can shoot. But you only have a couple shots then you have to find more bullets. It is hard when you are trying to get on a cliff you have to walk right up to it until he climbs because he cant jump. This game would be alot easier if he could jump because he could get on to cliffs easier. The game gets boring after an hour of play. The game is especially boring when you are crystal at the begining of the game.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I was really excited about this games, which was going to feature 80 hours of gameplay and 2 discs. As usual wih rare, the release date slipped several times, even during its time on the N64, and when it was converted to gamecube, nothing changed. Ninty developed the fur effect, for example, which rare had to use (nothing like that will come out on the xbox) and nintendo got impatient, and needed to get rid of rare, so they cut down the gameplay, much to my disappointment. Although good, it feels slightly rushed and could have been better.Sound Nice, but could have been more variety. The voiceovers are quite good, and the dinosaur language is a nice touch.Gameplay The puzzle solving is good, but the fighting is pretty poor. Like Zelda, it locks on to the target and you have to press A to fight. This doesn't require much skill until the sharpclaw get shields. Block twice then tap a repeatedly. Not good. The puzzles were good, though and needed some thought, and the tricky system was a good innovation. However, unlike zelda, the bosses were too easy, most of all the last one which I completed after 4-5 times, and I am gods gift to gamers- i'm so crap I make everyone look good, so completing it in 20 1/2 hours was disappointing.Would you like to Comment? Summary One of the best adventure games I've ever played, but it was not what I expected for it could've been better. Still I highly reccomend you buy this game.Sound It is sometimes peaceful but other times annoying. The voices were good and I also liked the Thorntail Hollow music which relaxes me.Gameplay This game is fun but frusturating at times. It took me a while to beat it since at some times it took so long to beat that part that I wanted to tear apart the game. It is very similar to other games Rare has made but still enjoyable. However it could have been better if there was more than just the adventure. For example if it had battle, or courses. Once you have beaten this game, you should just sell it since there is no use to play it again.Would you like to Comment? Summary Do not buy!Sound Sound is alright nothing special, honestly i would say listen to your portable CD player.Gameplay For the first 4-5 hours of playing the gameplay is captivating and interesting. However after this time new missions appear to be the same as before however with new scenery. The gameplay is boring, tedious and you will find yourselg lost for hours on end.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary If you have'nt heard Microsoft is buying Rare but hey we got Starfox. Starfox is one of the best Adventure games out there next to Zelda. Apparantly Krystal gets trapped in Krozoa Palace and Dinosaur Planet is falling apart so Fox steps in and saves the day.Sound This is one of those games where the Boombox gets a break and your T.V. gets some over time.Catch my drift? Gameplay This game has lot's of replay value you could play maybe once more before doing one of the following.Blending it in the rest of your games or Letting your friend borrow it and have it somehow not come back or Taking a quick stop to GameStop and checking out the selection with the extra cash you got from Starfox. Rating Reviewed By KirbstaFrom Connecticut Review Date 12/10/2002 Overall Rating ![]() 5 of 5 Rate this review? Summary Starfox Adventures is a very nice game. Originally an N64 title, Rare has come a long way. After enduring nine delays, there are plenty of gameplay elements and great characters and ideas along the way. Cheat tokens can also be collected. This further demonstrates the true talent of Rareware. Overall, SFA is a must-buy.Sound The sound is also fantastic. From the occasional grunt to the characters' speech, the sound has no flaws. Rare has worked very hard in this department. At least 90% of the time a character will speak to you the speech is actually heard. Rare even included a native language that was created by them and sounds very authentic as it does follow an actual code. The sound goes above and beyond anything ever heard in a videogame.Gameplay The gameplay is nice. There are quite a number of opportunities to fly the Arwing even though they hardly last a minute. The puzzles are unique and they truly vary throughout the game. You have Tricky, a small dinosaur, as your companion while you collect upgrades for your staff and plenty of other items along the way. The gameplay does more than enough to get the job done.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Never having played the Zelda games It was a new kind of game to me and i loved it. This is why Nintedo will win the console war, with games that you have never played before and love to get to grips with. There are other games to, like Pikmin, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Mario Kart, Die Hard Vendetta, Wave Race, Eternal Darkness and now we have the Resident Evil name to put with the Cubes ever growing line-up.Sorry Xbox and PS2 owners, your only GameCube put down was that its a Kid System and the only kids games I see happen to ROCK. And how is Resident Evil and kids game or Eternal Darkness or Die Hard??? Sound One or Two Dinosaurs don't speak but you get text on the bottom, is this just mine. And wasn't the game ment to be put on two discs. Most of the voices are well done British accents (this may be because the plant has a monark like Britain) and they are well don't. most american's who do Britsh accent seem to think we all speak like the Queen. Star Fox and his mates have American Accents. there done well but sound like their skatersGameplay Top class, combat can "sometimes" be a little boring, but it most about looking for switches and using tricky to find things. How ever it can get very hard very quick and once you clock the game you can play it again or put it in the cupboard to collect dust. I wish they added more to the game then that but whats there is worth £40 of my money.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Rating Reviewed By Luke SharrattFrom London Review Date 12/05/2002 Overall Rating ![]() 5 of 5 Rate this review? Summary Weve been waiting a while for this one havent we? Delay upon delay , first for the N64, and now the gamecube. But its here, in all its glory as it seems. As you most probably know, this is Rares last ever Nintendo game ( For the forseeable future at least - dont forget, the same was said about Square, but they managed to find there way back !) Anyway, back to the point - Its here ... and it rocks....... Read on.... This is Rares first computer game for quite a while, and youll instantly recognise the simalarities between this and Other Rare titles. The graphics are absolutely bloody superb(More on these later) and, god, how many times do i have to say this word ? - Pretty damn Rare ! You play Fox M'Cloud - international super hero and Lylat system Pilot, more suited to Arwings than bounding about on foot . But in this game, strangely, thats exactly what you do - zelda style. From the opening sequence you'll be hooked - i guarantee that , Youll be mezmerised by the greatness of it, but then things take a turn for the worst .... The first 2 Hours or so are extremely boring. Very slow - not much proper fighting to get involved with - too much exploration- not enough action - all you get to do is marvel on the graphics (Like i said , more on that later.) So why bother buying it then ? If its 'Boring ?' Well play a but deeper and youll understand, as the storyline picks up the pace and you get involved and begin having excellent battles and solving cool puzzles. Its worth getting into, cause it really does start getting good. A bit like Eternal Darkness, i suppose - slow to start off with , but it certainly rewards you if you keep playing. When i first saw the screenshots of Star fox adventures, i pictured lush open fields , swaying trees, landscapes that stretch as far as the eye can see - every inch of a whole unique world explorable ( It had been in development for about 3 years !)and hundreds of different dinosaurs to interact with - pretty much a free roaming adventure game where you go whereever you like. Tahts what we were made to believe. Out of all those things i listed, only one of them is true - The swaying trees - the others are just dreams that we wish Rare would of taken into consideration. Dont be fooled onto thinking that this is a huge epic game - its not - it has small locations to explore (similar to Jak and Daxters hubs)- and lots of them as well - but its not quite epic. It a fairly difficult game, but not big my any means. I was dissapointed with the finished product for quite a few reasons, actually, one of them being the fact that there are hardly any different types of dinosaurs to interact with. After all, this is called DINOSAUR PLANET . More like A PLANET WITH A FEW DIFFERENT TYPES OF DINOSAURS ON IT. Maybe they were gonna use that one but it was just too long .Who knows. Any way, like picasso once said ' You should never pick holes in a masterpiece So thats why im going to stop dissing it and tell you the good parts. The story is good ( I wont bother explaining it all) The bosses are awsome, and are genuine Rare creations, and every location you visit oozes class. Dull exploration parts are split up by cool first person modes, and you even get to pilot your arwing on some levels. This is definelty GameCubes best Adventure game so far-infact, probably the best next gen adventure game ever. It is heavily influenced by all of Rares other games ( Which is why it is probably so good) and has defineltly had some lessons from Zelda. Is it as good as Zelda, though ? Maybe ............... Sound Cool English based accents (Which are quite amusing )Exactly what youd expect from a rare game - decent enough sound track to match. Gameplay Zelda down to the bare bone . need i explain more ?Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member.
