Summary The first time I played the game I said, WOW this is an awesome game. However as time has gone on I've noticed a few problems with the game. It is a great multiplayer game, and as far as indivdual play, it's got franchise mode. Even though franchise mode sucks, it's not even close to understandable or realistic, but it's still franchise mode for a basketball game. Aside from that a few things could be added, A dunk contest similar to Tony Hawk controls and seperate dunks for each player, how fun would that be. Also remember the old NBA Live's with 3 on 3 mode, what ever happened to those days. I liked the game but there is room to improve I'm sure 2003 will be a great game.Sound The worst part of the game, The Arena announcer is good, but the play by play is awful, I turned it off after a few weeks out of sheer disgust. The crowd is a loud as the ones at Montreal expos games and though the player cut scenes are great there is no reality to the sound around the basket. But that's a great whistle sound you have.Gameplay It's a little slow, and the AI uses way to much clock, to get realistic scores you have to have to play at least 10 minute quarters. Also shooting is way to hard, on Superstar you can miss wide open threes on a regular basis with Reggie Miller, Paul Pierce or just about anyone, One game a played Peja Stojackovic was 2-27 from the field. The slower speed helps make it possiable to watch the plays evolve, but has to much of a downside. You always get caught up to by a defender on a fast break. Also they look like real NBA players, no hustle. The auto-dunks and lay-ups need to go, or at least be an option, we have 20 buttons on our controlers, lets use them. Still the best sim out there.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary First of all, I begin playing NBA 2K2 thinking it was going to be better than NBA Live. I played and played and played and finally came to the conclussion that NBA 2K2 sucks. That's when I decided to go ahead and give Live a try and to my surprise (well not really) this game was much, much better. More realistic, better shooting, and just more fun overall. The realism makes you feel like you in a real game and that's what I like.Sound The sound on NBA Live isn't all too exciting, but neither was 2K2.Gameplay Compared to NBA 2K2 the gameplay was a step or two above. Just think about it, the moves on 2K2 are kinda jittery if you know what I mean. One minute your here and the next your at the basket. This in turn takes the realism out of the game, (even Speedy Gonzalas isn't as fast as many of the guards in the game). Also, on 2K2 I find it hard to make a jump shot especially when a player is in front of me. In the NBA I've seen many of times where a player, like Kobe, can score with someone in his face and on NBA Live you can do that. I even did a test, in practice mode, with 2K2. What I did was put a non-moving player in front of Kobe and took jump shots while he was just standing there. I made about 1 in 20 shots, that's ridiculus and it makes no sense. Tested NBA Live, in the one on one setting, with a non-moving player and the statistics were much, much better and more realistic. That right there makes NBA Live feel like I'm in the game and makes me want to continue to play.Would you like to Comment? Summary NBA Live 2002 is an excellent game in it's own right. It's true to the EA Franchise of NBA sims that started out on the Genesis. It's a complete game in it's features, and the modes you're able to play in, playoffs, GM, Custom, etc. I own every system out there, except the GameCube, and this is the best BBall SIMULATION out there. To me the best GAME is NBA Street on PS2, which is absent from the XBOX library.Sound The sound is first rate also. From the colorful announcers to the trash talking players, coaches, and fans this game represents true NBA games. It actually sounds like a real live game.Gameplay The gameplay is tricky at times. I get tired of the lack of control over your players when they get close to the rim, or the baselines. I'm nitpicking, but if you call your game a sim, then I should be able to control my player better. And the automatic dunks/layups are just horrible. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. The Defense is first rate, but I found I needed to play on the top difficulty level just to get some competition.Would you like to Comment? Summary this game was plain ole horrible. after player nfl fever, this was a major letdown. the graphics was @ best bad. this just looked like a carryover from ps2. i would wait for nba inside drive personally. it's got to be better than this. ea has got to do better in for nba03.Sound who cares about sound in a sport game. but the ball bouncing on the court sounds realistic.Gameplay very simplistic. no real flow to the game.Would you like to Comment? Summary I own nba 2k1 and 2k2 and have enjoyed playing them very much, but if your looking for realism, live 2002 is the way to go. Everything about the game has a lifelike feel to it, from driving the lane and dunking to pinning ball against the backboard on blocked shots, this game is a true simulation. Ive been a gamer for many years and a baskettball player for many more, trust me this is the best bball game out there barnone.Sound not great but decentGameplay smooth, tight , realistic, and the best ive seen for a bball game. if i hear one more person complain about how hard it is to pull off a move ill puke, its called learning curve. once you start to master this game youll be blown away with the variety of moves you can pull off.Would you like to Comment? The announcers comments are in sync with the game, but the variety is very limited. They will often repeat stuff. The crowd is the most dead thing I have ever seen. If the refs make a call on the home team I wish that the crowd would react a little.Gameplay The gameplay in this game is really great. It has the typical season, exhibition, franchise, practice, and a new 1 on 1 mode. Season and franchise are my two favorites. The one on one really gets old after about 2 or 3 times. Playing this game is not hard. If you know how to work the controller, it wont take you more than 5 minutes to figure out the controls.Would you like to Comment? Summary this game is much better than the ps2 version, most people are trying to compare this with the dreamcast you can not do this this is a real simulation where as the nba2k series is with a twist of arcade feel.Sound this to me is very weak part of the game the announcers are bad, and i think the guy from the NBA street Joe "the show Jackson" does some color which is only thig good about the sound. the players sound are some what "muffled"overall it is kinda quiet for a nba game, this needs to be changed.Gameplay the gameplay is a lot slower than other basketball games that are on the market, which in my opinion is not all bad.everything for a season as well as a franchise are in this game the controls are pretty good,i would like to adjust the controller to my liking ,but i have not found it yet.the practice mode is good as well as the "1 on 1" mode.Would you like to Comment? Summary i just bought my xbox and ill admit i was a little disappointed with this game. not entirely bad, just probably not worth 50 bucks (especially if you still have your dreamcast hooked up). i went with the xbox instead of the ps2 even though the game selection is pretty slim. im hoping this was a rushed first offering and the 2k games (or something like them) will reach the xbox some day.Sound not bad not great. the announcers get turned off when i play sports games, i cant understand why no game designer take the time to give them a big vocabulary, so they dont repeat the same stuff 4 times a quarter.Gameplay i like the playability of defense you cant block every shot but you can block some, even at clutch times in the game when most games AI has become super-human. i have only played for a few hours but rebounding was not as easy as i would have liked. plus i am still getting used to the xbox controller, its big. always a big plus for me there are a variety of post moves. even the simulation mode is too "arcade like" for me. the players jump 5 feet and most of the dunks leave the back board shaking.Would you like to Comment? Summary I purchased this hame the day it came out in anticipation of a great hoops game. Since I am a huge EA fan (Madden) since the days of Sega Genesis and I love hoops, I figured I could not go wrong. There are some + and -'s. I would say rent this game for the most part, but only buy it for 1 reason. -- You can not live with your X box and no hoops game. I would say also to consider a much hyped NBA 2K2. I will.Overall this game is not entirely bad, it has good points, but has room for improvement from EA for the Sophmore release for XBOX. 2003. Sound This is where the game falls down. Announcers are annoying. I turned them off. The fans should do more chants. More home town support in any city. I would like to see that the arenas are congruent to the ones in real life. EX.- Madison Square Garden and the organ lead defense chant. Basketball sound effects are fine.Gameplay Good:1) The customized character creations are cool. You can make your player almost look like you all the way down to the tats. 2) The control of the jumpshot is pretty accurate. Releasing at the top of the shot usually means success. GENERAL control is ok,but there is another side of the coin. 3) Gameplay is exciting at times. I have been faced with last minute buzzer beaters and game winning shots that really connected me to the game. Other side of coin as well 4) Features such as One on One, Franchise mode. I have not spent time with this yet but I will. Bad 1) The other side of the coin is control. Perform a controlled spin move if you can. This is the most wild hoops move I have seen in a game. Also, try to catch a shot of the rim for a dunk in. Good luck. I have done only one. (by accident) Overall diffculty controllng PRECISE moves, which will sometimes bring game play down. 2) Camera angles. Live, Wire, or Court. I felt that the camera was too close even when all zoom is removed. I did not like limited view. I wanted to see the court and the players on my team. I applaud the graphics but I like to play the video game like I pay real life B Ball. 3) Game is too easy and lacks Artificial Intelligence. The hardest mode provides the most challenge to long time Video Game players. The game lacks smart play. No rotation on pump fakes. Would you like to Comment? Summary This game is one of the best "dunking" basketball games ever, if not the best. That is the only good thing about it. Graphics are excellent, but they could be better. Bad camera angles, Shaq still looks a little monster like. None of the alley-oops go in. Weak Gameplay, all you have to do is fake the shot, the computer goes to block it, and you have a huge lane to run through and dunk, wayyyyy to easy and boring.Sound Lame sound. Fans are not enthusiastic, commentary is just crap.Gameplay Too easy to dunk. Very easy to score points. This game is worth renting, but defenitly dont buy it.Would you like to Comment? I've played so many basketball games on many consoles, NBA 2k2 on Dreamcast is one of them. I would say that this game is worth renting, however, not worth owning. I really wanted to give this game a good rating, however, its unfortunate that I will give it an well deserving grading. Honestly this game is better than NBA Live 2001 on PS2 by a mile.Sound This was a dispointment, it was quiet and dull. The fans rarely reacted to the game's action. The announcers were really boring. Sorry guys but this was a big let down.Gameplay The gameplay completely stinks, its so hard to control the players and with that big controller, its really difficult. NBA 2k2 on DC is much better in this department, I was able to block shots and alley op better etc., you get the point.Would you like to Comment? The lighting is better on the X, the players are taller on the X, and the action is faster!!!! With that said on to the review. Sound The sound is were i have a little problem, it's not that the music doesn't kick butt because it does. It's the players mouths move in the cut scences but you don't hear a word they say(that stinks)!!! Overall the music is good.Gameplay In the x box version the players move alot smoother. Not as much going out of bounds when you do a cross over.In fact the special moves work alot better. You can break down your defender easier and get to the basket.Which brings me the upgrade on defense in the x box version, you can block any kind of shot including dunks!!!(it's not easy, but it can be done) The controls are easy to use and somewhat responsive(sometimes you push the shot button and nothing happens)!!!Would you like to Comment? Summary The dunks are awesome and they do have the franchise mode which is cool, but I only played 2 games before I had to put Madden back in. I love basketball games more than any other game, but this is not like the NBA Live games of old.Overall, I was disappointed in the game and I wouldn't recomment buying. I'll probably end up selling mine on ebay. I'll stick with Madden and Halo. Sound The sound was good.Gameplay The best part about the game was the dunks, but it was too easy to do it as well. I could get to the rack anytime I wanted to, even on the hardest level. I don't like the way you block shots or rebound either.Would you like to Comment?
