Sound

the sound in the game was pretty good except the soundtrack kinda sucked, coming from me in which i pretty much listen to just punk but i guess i cant get what i want every time. and umm the way the custom soundtrack works is pretty bad, figuring that in free skate it gets annoying hearing the same song over and over again, but the sound effects were pretty good, umm the sound of the bails were pretty good, and the sound of the board popping was cool, somehow in reasons i cant explain, it jus sounds like it is better quality than the previous thps games.

Gameplay

the gameplay was good too, except of what i said above for the fact that the park editor wasnt so great. umm, other than that i pretty much think that the game was pretty good. it wasnt hard at all to learn the controls, for the fact that they were similar to the previous thps games. sometimes i play jus to do cool stuff like kickflip to like a grind or somethin, just stuff that is possible, and it still is fun, the game really makes the actually possible stuff look pretty cool, so i enjoy that.

Summary

When I got this game I was not sure how to rate it since Skate or Die 2 had been the only other Skate Boarding title I had ever played on any system (NES). Back then my friends and I gathered around the 13" mono-speaker television I had in my room with the volume cranked up just to hear the game say "SKAAATE OR DIEEEEE 2!!!" at the start up screen. Funny how that tinny, scratchy, terribly compressed voice file had us saying aloud "MAN! It doesn't get ANY better than this!"

Enter Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2X for the Xbox Entertainment system.

Last night I finally had time to actually sit down with this title and run it through some paces. And I must say, before long I looked up and it was a quarter to five in the morning (I started at 11pm) and I still didn't want to go to bed! This title is strangely addictive and once you fall into it's snare of grinding, railsliding, ollie's and general all around skate boarding trash talking baggy clothes wearing foolery - you will be hooked.

Sound

Sound definitely rocks. I challenge anyone to play this game and not be tempted to slap a backwards cap on before the game is done! Music gives you that competitors edge an helps to serve up the feel that you are here to do some serious Grinding. Ambient sound effects are good and crisp.

One very important feature added to this game was the ability to use your own music (previously stored on your Xbox harddrive) to replace the soundtrack for the game! I spent half the night busting big air, doing ollies, avoiding that crazed fool in the golf cart that comes out of nowhere all the time and almost runs you over, listening to Linkin Park, No doubt, Gorillaz and more! It was way fun and I bet you won't be disappointed if "fun" is your motive for buying this game...

Gameplay

Gameplay appears solid. Since I'm new to the whole "dude! You suck!" skater scene I'm still familiarizing myself with many of the things I need to learn to score big points in this title. Often times I find that if I manage to stay on the board after a huge jump I'm happy enough and feel "cool". The controls appear responsive and are tight. You won't lack in control over your boarder. (oops! would that be considered another sport? Should I have said 'Skateboarder'?)

Controls consist of crouching down and gaining speed, pumping your player by using one foot to propel your player forward on his board, and various controller commands in conjunction with buttom presses in order to achieve "tricks" and "jumps" that gain you points and cash in your skating "career".

From the tricks I have managed to pull off I must say that the controls have been topnotch.

Levels are interesting enough and offer enough places to ride "illegally" with your player. School yard stairways, handrails, and even off the walls are all possible in this game. Heck any game that allows you to railslide a helicopter's blades sending them into a spin that launches it crashing up into the roof of the hanger it was in is alright by me (and pretty dang cool!)

Gameplay allows for tons of hidden areas to be found merely by activating certain events into motion. Because levels are goal based you can return to them over and over again until you've found every secret in them. Toss in a level editor/character creator and up to a possible 8 friends to play with you or against you and you have the makings of a long lasting title.

One thing to note: When you first play this title you will not have a very big board to start your play on. Don't let this fool you into thinking that later boards will be small too. That is just a starter board and trust me if you stick with the title you'll be happy you learned all those tricks so you can really express yourself when the levels get larger.
