Summary Halo 2 was great. This game walks the Master Chief through the Covenant attack on Earth, the Delta Halo experience, the Arbiter's view on the war, and many other things. Multiplayer takes this game to the next level. It has a variety of gamemodes including 'Slayer, CTF, Assault, Oddball, Juggernaught', etc. Xbox live made it possible to play all of the 15 - and more - levels on multiplayer with people all over the world. This made the expeirence even better; there isnt a better feeling than watching a guy with an Energy sword run at you, only to meet his demise as you stick him with a plasma grenade. Xbox live made even more maps downloadable, and introduced the game mode 'SWAT' where nobody has any shields or radar, and the starting weapon is the most deadly. Strength Halo 2 delivered a variety of new weapons into the Halo world - the Battle rifle, the SMG, the Magnum, the Carbine, the Energy sword and the Fuel rod cannon (which was in Halo 1, but was unwieldable). They made the player, overcome new enemies, such as the Drones and Brutes. Duel wielding was made available to the player, but due to obvious reasons only select few weapons were duel wieldable. To make sure ot didn't get too powerful when duel wielded, the SMG was given recoil, and the Needler and Plasma rifle was toned down. Good soundtrack. The Arbiter was added in as a playable in campaign and multiplayer which was good. Weakness The game was a little shorter than Halo 1, and the fact that the Master Chief went to another Halo wasn't suprising - after all it is the 'Halo' series. The Assault rifle and Pistol were taken out, some of the vehicles were toned down in damage (in some cases, this is understandable). Apart from those things this game is awsome. Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT after the original HALO. It took me months of play to finish HALO. It only took about 2 weeks of get to the lousy ending of HALO2. BORING !!They actually had the nerve to have this available for pre-release order. HA !!! what a joke. I should have waited for it on the reduced shelf. It sure wasn't worth full price. I'm going back to the original HALO. I have yet to play it in multi-player mode, maybe that will change my mind about the game. I sure hope so, because what I've seen so far has not impressed me. I'll be hesitant to purchase any more games by this maker.Sound Sound was fine, lousy game....In case you haven't figured it out yet, I did not like this game at all.Gameplay I kept getting confused changing from the Master Chief then to an alien. What the heck was going on, I have no clue and I'm an adult !! The addition of all the extra weapons was nothing to write home about. Even having the ability to carry 2 weapons did not excite me that much.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Halo 2 is the sequel to the best selling xbox game Halo, which sold over 4million copies with unbeliveable graphics, gameplay, sound and a stoyline that left you in suspence wanting to know what will happen next. Halo 2 offers unbelivble graphics and sound, but lacks alittle on the stroyline and gameplay that made Halo so great. You do swich between the Master Cheif and a Covenant Elite durring the gameplay, but the storyline goes nowhere new. You fight on a ship in space in the first level (sound familer) but then you go and crash land on Earth this time and not on Halo. But when you leave Earth, you go and fight on another Halo world. (sound familer) and then you go and get the index(sound familer) and then go to the control center to stop it from being activated (sound familer). There is nothing new in the storyline for Halo 2, its all the same, Halo2 is mainly an expansion for Halo1.Sound The sound is amazing in 5.1 dolby. You can sit there and hear a enemy sneaking up on you and being able to tell what kind of enemy it is by the sound it makes is amazing. The gun sound and vehicle sounds have all been improved, except for the Warthogs tail gun, it sounds pretty weak now.Gameplay The gameplay lacks alittle compared to what the first Halo gave. Halo 2 offers a new hijack feature witch allows you to board and throw out a drive, passenger or gunner of a vechile and command it for yourself. It also provides a new duel-wielding feature in witch you can now hold two - one handed weapons, this allows for tactial gameplay, you can take the duel-wielding firepower but you cant throw gernades while you do so. The main dent in Halo2's gameplay is that you dont get that 30 seconds of fun that bungie talks about. Nothing in Halo 2 compares to the fun you had when you invaded the beachs on The Silent Cartographer. A.I. The new AI in Halo 2 is not as smart as promised. They can now drive vehicles, but normaly get you killed doing so cause their still stupid. Other than that, all they do new is lean up on a wall for cover. If you look back at E3 for Halo2, the demo game, you will notice that the Marines yelled out enemy positions and alerted you when they spoted the enemy flanking. Seeing the part when the marine peeks around a cornor and yells "Frag and Clear" and throws a gernade around the conor, and then they rushed in when it exploded. Its that kind of stuff that made Halo2 look good. But for some reason, Bungie acted like fuc*ing idots and took it out. Rembering seeing that huge airstrike in the demo moive, you dont get nothing that good in the FINAL version of Halo2.Would you like to Comment? Summary Halo was an incredible game worthy of the million or so copies that it sold so, naturally, expectations for Halo 2 are exceptionally and perhaps unrealistically high. Is this the worthy sequel we have waited 3 years for? Maybe not. After completing the game it becomes apparent that this is not so much a sequel but rather part two in what Bungie have set up as a cash-in trilogy. You will be left confused, bedazzled, frustrated and probably not all together fulfilled. Personally, the original Halo is still the definitive game in the series. It may not have duel-wielding or the graphics of Halo 2 but it has a special character to it, a story that makes sense and Master Chief kicking absolute arse. Halo 2 is not a bad game, quite the opposite. But it is a dissapointing sequel. For those expecting a new adventure that feels just as exciting as the first time you opened your eyes as the master chief will feel cheated. Buy it if you do not mind the idea of dishing out $99 bucks for a prettier Halo 1, otherwise, rent tha game out, see how pretty it is and then get back to the original. Multiplayer - Xbox users will rejoice at the introduction of Banshees in the multiplayer levels although PC users have enjoyed this for some time now. What's different? A few new weapons that are basically gimmicks such as an alien assault rifle and an alien sniper rifle and very little else. There is no longer the option of unlimited grenades which is a frustrating admission as it takes away the fun of hectic sticky grenade battles and jeep force back which brought friends together for hours in the original. The maps are good and there are enough for players to pick their favourites but none of them have the lasting power of the original Blood Gultch map. (note) I am too poor to afford Xbox live so the online component no doubt adds an extra dimension to the multiplayer component.Sound It may be slightly crisper but basically the sound fx are more of the same, which is not a bad thing in the least. The music is great at times and ball breakingly irritating at others. For some reason one of the levels has a sound track that busts out into a wank rock fiddly fest that does not add anything to the feel of the game. Otherwise the orchestral pieces are fantastic and the sfx remain exciting enough.Gameplay Put simply Halo 2's greatest selling point is the new duel-wielding gun system. It comes across as little more than a gimmick however as nothing else has really changed. Perfect Dark on the N64 had duel-wielding so it really isn't an incredible new feature. There are a few cool moves availiable to the master chief mainly involving the highjacking of vehicles but they are not enough to differentiate this game from the original. The maps are often awkward and constricting and after an epic first battle on earth, a remarkable second level, the game really does go downhill. *** plot spoilerish *** A sure sign that the guys at Bungie were running out of ideas and a decent plot line is the advent of a new character. In any sequel when the game is panned out by new characters you know that the designers are running out of ideas. Some may enjoy the gimmick (note how many times that word has cropped up) of fighting with the covenant, but you're not killing the humans (fancy some red blood for a change?) rather conspiring covenant and rebellious apes. Dammitt we all love the master chief, he has character, he has balls and he packs a hell of a whollop, Halo just isn't the same when only half of the game is dedicated to our macho master. Throw in a few extra enemies, a few extra guns (the zoom pistol is missing!!!) and a few extra vehicles and you have a run of the mill sequel. Halo fans deserve better. Fingers crossed for the inevitable Halo 3 on the Xbox 360.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary The covenant have found earth and are now on there way to completely destroy the entire human race. However not all hope is lost. The master chief who beat the legions of convenant on halo has made his way back to earth and just in time. With new weapons, new vehicles and new upgrades to existing weapons and a great new story line this game has so much more to offer then the original halo did. New features include dual weapons and the ability to check out the war from the covenant prespective as well playing with the condemed leader(for failing to capture and stop the covenants first major defeat at halo) known as the abirator. The story swaps between master chief and the abriator every few levels and is quite interesting. If there are any qorals that I have with halo is the fact that humans are still using projectile weapons by the year 2552. The humans certainly have the technology to make laser weaponry and even rail gun technology even we cannot replicate the plasma technology just yet. I feel the programmers should have given humans a few laser guns and a rail gun for the humans to use and included a flame thrower for good measure. I have nothing against the projectile weapons but just that humans by this time certainly would have included ray guns as well to their asenal. Not even the gauss cannon is a beam based weapon, although at least its the humans closest thing to a beam based weapon. The vehicles are great. Do not be put of by the lack of human vehicles in comparison to covenant. Because the humans have the right combination. The warthog has two variation. One with a gauss cannon and one with a chaingun. The chaingun is useful for mowing down infantry, the guass is good for taken out the ghosts and banshees and even the covnant morter tanks. The scorpian tank is virtually unstoppable and will take out most things with a single shot with its cannons and can mow down infantry with its chaingun. All in all a great game and if you have the original halo get this one as well.Sound Great what more can I say. Except that it is funny to listen to the sarge, the commondoes and the those cowardly grunts from the covenant.Gameplay Good gameplay and great controls. Aside from the absents of human based laser or energy weapons the gameplay is great.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I got the limited addition which includes a dvd. the dvd is nice because it shows how it was made and all of the other goods. The game portion is what, obviously, really matters. this game is amazing. all of the hype was a little over the top but it is much better than the first Halo. The campaign is good but the Live is what really gets me goingSound the sound is pretty good. all the the weapons sound great, the ai's speach matches their mouth movements pretty well. its not groundbreaking stuff but it gets the job done. IF YOU OWN AN XBOX BUT NOT HALO 2, GO OUT AND BUY IT RIGHT NOW. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?Gameplay The gamepay is amazing. I haven't seen any glitching in the game itself. the ai is much more improved over the first halo. when you shoot at the aliens they react in a way that a normal person would react. they can take cover, hop on top of things, and strategize with the other aliens. other cool improvements are better armor, dual wielding, and boarding vehicles. i cant tell you ho much i hated watching my health and being run over all the time. now your shields recharge faster and if you time it perfectly as a vehicle comes at you you can hop on and rip em out. the best feature on Halo 2 is the ability to play on Xbox Live. if it werent for this the game would get relatively boring. it is much more fun playing games with people from all over the world because it offers a new challenge. if i had to i would spend double the amount i paid for it just because it is Xbox Live enabled.Would you like to Comment? Summary After three years of waiting, after reading countless previews and scanning thousands of magazines for pre-release screen shots until my eyes turned bloodshot with strain, after counting the seconds until I could race to the store and pick up my limited edition copy, I finally got my hands on what could possibly be the most anticipated game ever made. Unfortunately (and I know I'm going to get a lot of flak for this), I cannot honestly say that I am completely elated with the final result. Halo 2 is, in its own right, an amazing game, don't get me wrong. However, I feel that after years of media hype, this title does not live up to the high expectations it set for itself. When I first popped the game into my Xbox, I was expecting it to hit with a maelstrom of new features and vast improvements over those presented in the original Halo. I was extremely disappointed to discover that the game does very little to build upon the foundation it already built for itself. A few new weapons have been added, but most are just suped-up knockoffs of other guns, and do not add any new dimensions of play (with the possible exception of the brute shot). And while being able to dual-wield certain guns and hijack vehicles adds some spice to the mix, these features seem to be there more for the novelty value than anything else. In addition, I was extremely disappointed to learn that they have done away with the health bar of old, which takes away from a good deal of the strategy that made the old game so appealing. Low on health? Just find some cover and wait for the shield to regenerate, then you're back in the fray again. On the plus side, Halo 2 does improve in several other areas. The graphics engine, which has been totally redone, looks positively amazing now, and many of the cutscenes (alone with a terrific soundtrack) look more like a live action movie than a game. And if it's frenzied, fast-paced action you want, Halo 2 delivers it... in spades. There is no lull in the excitement, as the game moves seamlessly from one insane firefight to the next. More intelligent and resourceful AI (both on your side and the enemies') make things more intense than they ever could be in the original. In conclusion, I'm not saying that Halo 2 is necessarily a bad game, just more of the same (which is why it gets a 4/5 in my book). But don't be worried, old fans of the series as well as rookies will surely get their heaping helpings of gaming goodness here.Sound See Overall ReviewGameplay See Overall ReviewWould you like to Comment? Summary Intro “Pick me up! Pick me up! I’ve got the flag!” This pretty much describes the last three years of my friends and I. I can’t even count the hours spent playing this legendary game. If you don’t yet know what I’m talking about, you have lived a sheltered life. Halo for the Xbox gaming system is one of the greatest games of all time and if you haven’t played it, stop reading right now and buy yourself a copy. Otherwise, sit back, relax, and enjoy this review. Conclusion Halo 2 is definitely Xbox game of the year and maybe even the best game ever. Its outstanding campaign tied together with the everlasting multiplayer will hold fans over until Halo 3. If you really liked Halo or even if you thought it was just O.K., Halo 2 is still the game for you. Now stop reading and snag a copy of this game!Sound Sound Halo 2 must be played on a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound system. You are missing out if you are just using two speakers. The game processes sounds as you play so if an enemy is behind you shooting, you will be able to tell and turn around because of the rear speakers. Most of the sounds in the game are right-on and sound like their real life counterparts. The same voice-acting is back and is average, to say the least. A major innovation in the online play is something called “proximity voice.” If an opponent is in your vicinity, they can make contact with you. For instance, right before you melee someone from behind, you can whisper something like “turn around,” right before you whack em’.Gameplay Gameplay Bungie added many new features this time around. One major addition is the ability to dual-wield. This brings a whole new dimension and strategy to the game. Almost all weapons can be dual-wielded. Notable exceptions are one-handed weapons such as the shotgun, rocket launcher, sniper rifle, battle rifle, and the carbine. Try using plasma pistol/SMG or magnum/SMG for the deadliest combo. Another feature is vehicle hijacking. It’s great feeling to knock an elite out of a ghost or wraith. The campaign mode is a breeze on the easy and normal levels, challenging on heroic, and impossible on legendary. The levels are nice and varied from outdoor earth levels to covenant levels inside spaceships. The enemy A.I. (artificial intelligence) is well done as grunts dodge grenades and others actually snipe you with the beam rifle. Compared to Halo, Halo 2’s gameplay by some may seem inferior, but after a few days, one will adjust. Overall, gameplay is awfully similar to its prequel, which is a good thing. It’s like Halo with gravy on top. Multiplayer Gameplay If Halo 2’s single player is a small McDonald’s combo, its multiplayer is supersize. This is what makes the game. Split screen and system link are back again but the Xbox Live factor extends the replay value tenfold and is designed brilliantly. Up to 16 players can play at once over the internet. Your friends list is easily accessible with a press of the ‘y’ button and you can instantly invite them to join your party. Once in a party, you can play either custom or ranked games. Custom games can have any game settings and levels you desire but ranked games are set in stone. They are chosen from something that Bungie calls “matchmaking playlists.” These games count toward your level, or rank, and separate the men from the boys. Bungie’s goal is to have every game be competitive. They match you up with people close to your level. If you keep winning, you move up levels and face tougher opponents. In the end, things balance out and you end up playing close games all of the time. This feature allows for more entertaining and challenging games. Communication with teammates can be done with headsets and the white button and is convenient in times of peril. My only complaint about multiplayer is the “cheating” that goes on. There are many glitches that need to be fixed so that all games will be fair. An example of one of these glitches is the “dummying” glitch. This allows a player to ride shotgun in a warthog invisible and invincible. They can be then dropped off next to the flag, pick it up, and be transported back to base. Other than this, playing online is a blast.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I think that Halo 2 is going to be, once again, game of the year. I enjoyed the 1st Halo but I found many of the levels repetitive and boring. They fixed that problem in Halo 2 by having very little repetitiveness. All in all I think this may be the greatist FPS ever made.Sound Ah Yes the sound. Well I thought the sound was awesome. The gun SFX were realistic as were the explosions and the death of enemies. I also thought it was cool that they used celebrities as marines. I think that the sound was realistic and great.Gameplay The Gameplay in Halo 2 is great. The campaign was great and long but it just left me wanting more. Me and my friends found a few glitches in the multiplayer level Coagulation. The glitch is that near the beck of each base you can drive vehicles up the wall. But everything else in the multiplayer is great. At first I didn't like Bungie having control in what and who I play but then you realize that just about every game they match you in, it's perfectly even teams. I'm still awaiting content download but I think they are going to wait a little bit. All of the game modes are awesome and challenging. They still have all the original games like CTF and Slayer but they also added games like Juggernaut, Oddball, and Territories. They even expanded on the original games. I think that it's great that they allow you to operate just about every covenant vehicle. It's also cool that you aren't hurt when you fall. This feature allows new tactical doors to be opened such as jumping down and killing someone with the sword or dropping into an enemy base by jumping out of a Banshee. Oh I almost forgot!!! Weapons,Weapons,Weapons!!! There's probably about 4X the amount of weapons than the last one. The new weapons include: Brute Shots, Brute Plasma Rifles, Covenant Carbines, Particle Beam Rifles, Covenant Energy Swords, Fuel Rod Guns,M6C Pisols, BR55 Rifles, M7/Caseless Suc Machine Gun, and the M68 Gauss Cannon(vehicle mounted). Oh, and one last thing. The duel wielding feel odd at first but then it becomes one of the coolest things ever. All in all I thought the gameplay was much better than the first.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member.
