Summary Although the transition of movie to games (and vice versa) usually do not bode well overall, King Kong has seemed to overstep this common hurdle, giving the player fun game play, with great graphics, and sound to boot. Unfortunately, with a short game life, and a few minor hic-ups, prevents this from being a must have hand held game. Since its so short I am forced to give it a lower rating that it really deserves had it been longer it would have been great. But having only spent a 10 on this game the value is very high.Strength Whats sad about this game is it has so much going for it. The Graphics are solid, and just below the PS2 spectrum of things (which is no small feat). Even on the small screen of a PSP the game still delivers the feeling that your environment, and more so your enemies are massive. Controls are for the most part very good considering the fact that the PSP lacks a second analog control. I never found the controls to be infuriating or cumbersome during the game. By far though the high spot of the game goes to sound. The musical score is nice, and the actors from the movie do the voice acting so those are spot one. But I was amazed by the sound effects. From the roar of the V-Rex (what the game calls them) to these gigantic centippedes like creatures the sound effects deliver. I felt tension, and yes a few jumps due to the sound effects and the tension they bring.Weakness With so much going for it, its sad to see it fail the way it has. While the graphics are quite good, sometimes due to the color scheme of the levels (at least the levels you plat in first person) it is difficult to find the path you need to find (caves, tunnels, a split in the path). Sometimes I would find myself in a new area and not know how I got there due to the environment blurring itself together. The puzzles in the game are a mixed blessing. Some are clever and fun, and some feel like they were forced into the game, making the experience a chore rather than intriging (c'mon you guys did an amazing job with the action portion of the game, give me more of that!) And speaking about giving more than that, this game is short. Now I don't mind short levels (ideal for portable systems) but the game is 3-4 hours max. While the ride is fun it ends way too soon. And as for the story, don't care its weakly linked into the game, go watch the movie. Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member.
