Summary Okay, you all think I put 5 for everything like other idiots, but i honestly mean putting the 5's because this is one of the best games on ps2.Most people complain about not understanding the storyline, yes i know i didnt get it too,but if you wish to understand it you better buy "metal gear"for snes,"metal gear 2 solid snake" for snes also and "metal gear solid" for ps1.And if you listen and see everything on all these games, you will notice that metal gear series has the best storyline on all systems. This isnt a game were there is blood and shooting in every corner like "Dead to rights",its more of a "cant get discovered or ill get my ass killed" kind of game, its all about stealth and strategy.I seriouslly recomend this game for anyone no matter what age or sex.Sound The sound...The voice acting is super-awsome,the music is old stile and cool, not like heavy metal or the stupid 007 music. You can hear your heartbeat when hiding in a locker, the gunshots passing over your ears, the rain drops, and everything else. The music fits on your situation,if your seen by a guard youll hear fast and desperating music ,if you hide the music will calm down,if you are sneaking by the music will be low and alerting,etc...Gameplay Gameplay...You get to play as two different characters,Snake"the coolest bad ass" ,and Raiden"the confused idiot with a girly body"now you can see the difference between these two.I got really mad when i saw that you only get to play as snake for only a little while,so the stupid ass Raiden gets everything, like missile and grenade launchers, machine guns, explosives, handguns and a sword, while snake only gets two lousy handguns. The game could have been better if you could play with the sword in other missions, but hey,its a shooting game. You get to do almost aything you want like hiding dead bodies in lockers, knock on walls, hanging, swimming, shooting, crouching, fist fighting, using naughty magazines to distract horny bad guys, use a wall for cover, peaking, you can actually kill animals. One thing that caught my attention is when you go to first person view(depending on your situation)you get to see cool stuff, like if you kill a bad guy your view gets bloddy,if you kill about 100 roaches with a rocket launcher some roaches with their guts out can get to your screen, even when you are looking up where there are a lot of seagulls, bird crap can get to your screen.Would you like to Comment? Summary The only thing that needs to be said is that I have 100% dog tags in all difficulty settings, (even extreme wich I have not finished yet, im at the metal gear fight)I unlocked all of the items (exept for extreme wich will be cleared soon) and I didn't get bored yet. The lenght of the game does not mean that you will clear one or two difficulty level and stop playing, the opposit efect occurs: you'll want to replay it again and again for many reasons such as unlocking items, or even understanding the story wich I think is harder to understand than it is to play the game.Just to reply to the guy who said that a guard ignored a bloody carcace of another guard, it never happened to me, even in very easy, im not calling him a liar but maybe his ps2 needs to be repaired Sound nothing to say about the soud, it is very realistic and the background music makes you feel in the game.Gameplay The only minor ( when I say minor I mean realy neglectable) weakness of the gameplay is the numerous cut seens , I personnaly enjoy them as they make you feel involved in the game unlike other games like (eheu spliter eheu cell eheu) that are good but are a little stepp lower than metal gear.As I said I almost cleared the extreme mode and unlocked all items so if someone needs help or advices, they can always send me an e-mail (I do not consider myself to be a metal gear master but the tips on the internet are almost all useless in the game) Would you like to Comment? I admit, I have never played the first Metal Gear Solid. Maybe this is why I didn't mind playing as Raiden. It's not like the gameplay is any different with him. Everyone who complained about this is just looking for something to bitch about in a very, very brilliant game. Still, the conversations between Raiden and Rose did get a little annoying, but it doesn't affect my view of the game. The story is quite good, and makes you wonder a lot. In the beginning it makes you think one thing, then keeps throwing surprises at you. Finally, at the end, after you think you have figured out what was happening, it really hits you with the truth. It's also nice to have the diferent difficulty settings, making it possible for someone without any kind of video gaming skill (such as myself), as well as gaming veterans to have loads of fun.Sound Excellent. Everything sounds great. Gun shots, guards, everything. The voice acting is superb. The music also adds a lot of atmosphere to the gameplay. The main theme is great.Gameplay Excellent. It is a lot more fun to try to sneak around guards who are actually trying to find you, then to blast your way through guards who will forget about you the second you are out of sight. The well thought out controls make this possible. You can press up against walls and shoot around corners. You can sneak up behind a guard and snap his neck. You can tap a wall to make a guard run into a trap. You can even set down certain...er...BOOKS...to distract guards.Would you like to Comment? Don't like games like Final Fantasy X or Resident Evil Veronica X. I had those games and I couldn't wait to get rid of them. As you can see by the sheer number of reviews this is a great game. Except for a few oddballs, who can't or won't see that this is the greatest game yet devised for the PS2, everyone seems to think so. This game is at least three generations of game play ahead of it's time. Why this game is not a gamers choice is way beyond me. In my quest to find a game nearly as great as this one I have not even come close. Maybe in 2003 when the third generation games comes out I'll have better luck but for now, "No way Jose'".Over 300 reviews I'm sure you don't need me to talk about game play, graphics or sound. This review is simply to bring up the average score of this game because it's much too low for such a great game. Nuff said! Sound No complaints it was very enthralling and gripping. Made year!Gameplay Best ever yet devised as of of 8/6/03.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary This Metal Gear game has to be one of the best one I've played yet and hope to see another one in the future.Sound The sound are soo realistic, which makes the game interesting.Gameplay Taking the roll of two people in two different storys that colide at the end is realy cool. Snake hasn't changed, then comes Raiden who has a cocky attitude, but thats ok. I never could get past the second to the last level. too hard, still trying.Would you like to Comment? Summary I'd like to start off saying that Metal Gear Solid is one of the greatest games of all time. its story was believable, its charecters were likable, lovable, and loathable, and the gameplay was deliciously addictive. Unfortunately, this pile of trash bears no resemblance to MGS's glory.Instead of Solid Snake(a spy baddass that is equal to Dante of DMC, and the nameless hero from GTA3), you are forced to play through the overwhelming majority of Sons of Liberty as Raiden: a hair bleaching, feminine, whiney little brat. the gameplay is repetetetetetetetetitive and, though similar to MGS's, not as fun, in any way. the villains ar nearly as whiney as our "hero," and, to top it all off, Raiden's chattermouth, manipulative girlfriend, Rose, will pop in (often in the middle of a gunfight) and bug you about August 30th, why you never talk to her, and your sex life. Sound the sound is pretty good as well. gunshot sounds are all timed well, there ar plenty of wind effects, and the voice acting is fairly good most of the time. the music is great, because it provides ambiance, and it fits the mood of the game so well you don't even notice it.since there is no story section, I'll just have to make one Story: as i progressed through the game, i liked the story better and better. i easily forgave some flaws (one charecter has faked having a prosthetic leg for ten years) However, near th en of the game, Konami totally blew it. most main charecters become robots (or are they? they are? oh, they're people... forget it, i just dont care anymore.) and the plot twists so much and in so many ways that just dont make any sense at all, you lose interest. Main charecters have really been dead for hundreds of years (what the... huh?). to finish up, i'd just like to tell everyone that i know that im one of the only people who dislike this game. please refrain from emailing me and telling me to suck monkey dick. Gameplay At first, I'll admit i had quite a bit of fun, bashing away at the Square button, watching the clouds of gore spray away from Nameless Guard LX93F56's head.Unfortunately, his gets old fast. Hideo Kojima, the creator, must have figured this out at some point in the production time, but too late to make many changes. what's the solution?why, give Raiden a sword of course!! a sword that with three, count 'em, three, different moves associated with it. three moves that make the game hideously easy. yipee. Hideo caught on to this as well, and came up with the idea of having your PS2 rebel against your fingers, causing your TV to try to cheat to make you die. Kojima, man, that was a dirty trick. a final word: a guard can follow you by seeing a wet footprint, a speck of blood, or your breath puffing out from behind a corner, but completely misses his former comrade's BLOOD SOAKED BODY lying at his feet. The story grows more and more in depth as the game progresses. State-of-the-Art (at the time) graphics, wonderful score, and dozens of easter eggs and secrets make thisgame an instant classic.Sound Wonderful music by composer Harry Gregson-Williams. The music heightens the mood, and makes you feel like you are there.Gameplay For veteran Metal Gear fans, the controls are very familier. For noobs, they come easy enough. The new moves (flip, hanging mode, etc) are a nice touch. Main cncern is that you could move in first person mode. The bosses can be very challanging ( on hard and above) and the story and plot twists make you feel like you are in a movieWould you like to Comment? Konami knows what they are doing.Sound The sound is the most real i have ever heard. The gunshots, people taking, walking, running, it all sounds real! After a long while of playing this game, you'll start getting very into it. For example, when you die, you get scared.Gameplay The gameplay is fantastic! You can move against walls, hold people hostage, hold up a guy and watch them beg for there life before you kill them, this game is everthing you ever wanted to do in a shooting game. Of course you can't go in with guns blazing. You must use stealth at all times. If you get spotted, a SWAT like team will come fully armed with weapons, body armor, ect. and kill you. It is the most realistic game ever made! Shooting anything has an effect. The guards act like they are real people. The scareist thing is when you get spotted. A loud, evil noise(that you will soon hate to hear) sounds meaning that the guard has spotted you. The best game ever.Would you like to Comment? The fighting is fierce. An best of all, there is a lot of subtleties that can only be found in a very well designed game. It is a must have for any collection.Sound The sound is excellent, and the score fits this game very well. The mood, at times, changes, and the score does along with it.Gameplay The gameplay is great. The contols do take some getting used to, but once you have it down, the game is rather easy. The dog tags are one of the coolest features I have ever seen in a videogame. It is quite fun to hold up some guy, and once he drops his dog tag, shoot him.Would you like to Comment? Summary i got this game the day it was born and was moved at the power of a PS2. I havd'nt played it in a while, but yesterday i picked it up and played all the way through. Let me tell you something ,if you dont watch the cutscenes you are missing half the fun, they are incredible. And about all this splintercell BS...its a good game but it is no comparison at all to mgs2. it is like a year and a half newer and still dosnt live up to metal gear SOL...splintercells staff should be embarassed.Sound sound is amazing, bullet hulls clinking the ground, bird crap skweaking on the floor from your shoe. they are just as good as teh graphics.Gameplay Gameplay is extremley easy to learn and there are a variety of amazing new aspects. First person shooting mode is definitley the big breakthrough as far as gameplay goes. And hanging mode is prety awsome too. The game has so many different ways or styles that it can be played. you can sneak and never be spotted and not harm a fly. Or you can be a bloodthirsty rambo(wich i dont recomend) but is still great fun.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Back in the early 90's when the first Nintendo was popular, 2 Metal Gear games were released (the second one was called Snake's revenge), and that was the start of something beautiful. Then, another one came out for the Playstation 1 that left everyone in aww. No one had seen such a cinematic game. Now, with the release of Metal Gear Solid 2:Sons of Liberty, the technology has improved greatly and the story is deeper than any game or movie you can think of.Sound The score and the soundfx are another thing to love about this game. It makes full use of surround sound or just regular tv speakers. Just wait until you find the directional microphone and you'll see that the sound was used in an innovative way.Gameplay The gameplay consists of stealth and strategy. What makes it so great is that you have a variety of ways you can take down your opponent. Knock on the wall, throw a can in the direction you want your enemies to go, these are just a few of the dozen possibilities. The controls are easy and gives players complete comfort when accessing gadgets and weapons.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary MGS2:SOL, the long awaited sequel to the one the best games ever created, MGS1, lives up to all expectations. All the factors, i.e Gameplay,Story,Graphics add up & blend toghether to form , undoubtably, the best game available on the Playstation2 console.Hideo Kojima has done it again. Sound Sound too , compliments the Graphics & gameplay well. Not too loud, as required for this type of games. Sound Effects are excellent, & some of the songs in the soundtrack is excellentGameplay The gameplay, along with the story, is the main thing is MGS2 that makes it great. The gameplay is an excellent balance of adventure & action/stealth. Not to much action & not to much adventure, just balanced. The main thing to use in the action part is 'stealth'. Dispose a guard off without him knowing it, or else an alarm will go off, & search & kill teams will be deployedWould you like to Comment? People call Vice City interactive, it doesn't even come close to the brilliance of Metal Gear Solid 2. I am going to Woolworthes right now with my £20 and am gonna buy this game. For those of you who live in the u.k, our games are rated differently. This game was rated a 15 over here. It desereved a brilliant 18. It is extemely violent and is not for people with a weak stomach. It is also very brutal, knock someone out and then shoot them in the head while they sleep, spray coolant spray in there face and blind them, or just kneecap them and drag there body around. Lovely. The worst thing about the game is the length of the codec calls and cutscenes, very annoying. At least they can be skipped though unlike the Getaway.Sound Not the strongest point for mgs. But it still get's a five. There is no in-game music but when you are discovered by an enemy and annying little soundtrack will start. It will make you jump if you think you're in the clear. Gun shots, sword slices and blood squiring are all brillaint. Best voice acting in any game as well.Gameplay Best in any game ever. Open lockers, hang off railings, do push ups, plant mines on people, defuse a bomb the professionnal way and many more solid snake sytle moves, the game has everything. Pure genius.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I love this game.Every second of it.Even though i've beaten it a million kajillion times, i love this game.It did make me really mad that you could only use Snake for the Tanker level.I also don't like that level as much as the plant.Man, you can like just do what ever you want there.Like run around in a little cardboard box.Or just go buckwild and blast the crap out of those meanie russian terrorists. The best thing about this game most of all is the graphics. The gameplay really short cuz ive beaten it in 2 and a half hours. The fact that you can hold up people is friggin priceless man.Sound I didn't pay to uch attention to the sound so...i guess i go with its great. If you mean sound affects, PERFECT then. You like that better?I sure hope so.Gameplay The gameplay isn't to great. If you go through the whole and get everything and do everything your supposed to and not screw around is about 8 hrs.Doesn't sound to good now does it.NO!Can't wait till the next one comes out!Would you like to Comment? Summary I got it for 12 bucks, which is just amazing to me now, considering how big a production this was.I first borrowed it from a friend in 2001 when it first came out, and liked it, but shuddered at the usage of raiden instead of snake. Recently however, I had a change of heart, and just had to get this game! The MGS/Splinter cell debate is up to the individual, but I'll just say that Splinter cell is more of a 'realistic' simulation.. Metal Gear Solid 2 is a video gamed manga. It's pretty much like akira or ghost in the shell or any other action packed anime. The story might be wild and crazy, but thats how Japanese animated films go, so either you'll like it or not like it, I personally think it's awesome, although I hope that he makes it more 'normal' in the next installment (if he makes one), I'd prefer an urban setting like in a city btw. Luckily I can skip through the codec sequences and most cutscenes. Its sortof sad to not be playing it for the first time anymore. The hype and anticipation leading up to this game was possibly the most intense for any video game EVER, now it's gone, like most games into the bottom of most videogame stacks that players will reach for, but I'm happy that i went ahead and bought it. I hope that Hideo goes ahead and makes a new MGS, and SOON! I hope that before humanity does itself in, we'll at least have a new metal gear to play! Sound music is great; took a while to get used to the whole saxaphone music, but its one of the best produced game music ever made. The music on the tanker is the bomb yo! Gun fire, radio chatter, talking, all good. I have to admit that they need to drop the voice actor doing snake, what a phoney sounding gruff voice!Gameplay Just plain excellent. It's not quite a first person shooter, but it has FPS aiming. It's easy to learn, yet takes a while to become skilled. You don't necessarily have to use the FPS view, you get some auto aiming. Shooting siphors out with the aks74 and the M4 are my fave things to do, the 'feel' you get when you shoot them is just perfect, the controller rattles just right.sneaking around is the only way to go on anything harder than very easy. the A.I. is just incredible. You can shoot out glass, tvs, lights, sea gulls, a can of ice and the ice in the can... Hideo payed attention to all the details possible! The bosses are cool, other than the Fatman, that fruitbooting bomber! Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary This is the best game anyone can play, the adrenilane of it is such an amazing feet! Im impressed at how much they improves the game compared to the first one, graphics and everything, everyone must buy this game, i got it for Christmas 2002 round about £39.00 at Grainger games, i honestly feel as if im raiden/snake when playing this, they made it so humouris and playful:DSound Music is superb, thats all i can say:PGameplay New features such as the 'role' and 'Punch punch kick kick' are good, and the idea of tip toeing..., one problem (:-p) in the toilets when Raiden looks at the mirror, if you press L2 + R2 to tip toe, he doesnt get taller, but besides that its great.Vr Missions were missed out here, im guessing that the disc was choca-bloc with files, no more space left, such a let down - The new MGS 2 : Substance makes up for that. Summary First of all i want people to know that this is not a game i just picked up,i have over 100 games and this was like the 5th game i got for my collection.I have read many of the reviews and i am completely disgusted with the people who gave it horrible reviews. For instance one guys cried and cried about Solid Snake not being the main character throughout the game, and that he thought the story was a soap opera ,but how does that cause him to put all 1 and 2 points for all the categories,i also see a bunch of people who are so anal that they probably find something to complain about in every video game.So many that call the game horrible keep comparing it to GTA 3.Metal Gear was not made to be anything like GTA 3,it is a totally different genre, what kind of moron plays a Metal Gear game and expects it to be just GTA 3?? As snake and Raiden you are a special forces agent,It captures all the tactics such as sneaking up on your enemy and taking him out silently, and forces you to use stealth rather than just running into rooms and shooting it up like gang busters like in Halo or First Person Shooter type of games. In my opinion the story was not bad,I mean people wine and complain when a game has no story to it,then if they are given a long and creative one they wine and complain some more. There are just some people out there who can never ever be happy with a game and they want to ruin everyone elses experience by giving it a horrible review and preventing less anal players fron enjoying a great,if not the best 3rd person shooter ever made.If you skip through the cinema screnes and don't know whats going on then yes the game will seem short and pointless if you aren't following the story as you play along. The first time through this game you should watch the whole story, then afyter you beat it you can go through and skip all that when you are just out to try to get dog tags and unlock new things (which i had a fun time doing even after beating the game).Fact is this is the first game that relies on a true military infiltration style. So many people want a ramb style game where you can walk into a room of 50 people let out a war cry and just mow them down with lead,But in metal Gear solid it is realistic in that if you are seen they will call a bunch of troops to seek you out ,yet you can kill him or shoot the walkie talkie out of his hands to stop him from getting backup,Then if they search for you you can find places to hide ,in lockers under boxes etc.And i disagree with those who say the AI is bad,i mean these computer guys will sometimes start kicking a box you are hiding under and then just start shooting it if they suspect someones in or,or if your power is low and you leave a blood trail while hiding, they will follow your blood trail and open the locker you are hiding in.I will not give this game a horrible score sompliy cause you have to use Raiden rather than snake in most missions,How anyone could give a game bad marks in all categories simply because they didn't like the character they had o use is way beyond me cause its an extraordinary game,Ignore the critics and enjoy the best 3rd person shooter for the playstation 2Sound The sounds were fine, the sound of everytngseems t fit,the way the music changes if you are seen and they are looking for you,the heart beat getting louder when you hide in a locker and the enemy is approaching, along with the rumble of the controller when that happens,I think they put an amazing amount of detail into using the sound to get your adenaline pumping at certain parts of the gameGameplay Everything works fine ,very responsive controller, only difficult thing was using the sniper rifle, they don't let you hold it steady,it moves aaround a boit to mak it more like a realistic person trying to snipe, unless you are shooting on a tripod ,its not easy to hold a sniper rifle perfectly steady and they tried to incorporate the realisnm in thatWould you like to Comment? Summary Possibly one of the best action games of all time, Sons of Liberty has really set a high standard for other shooters to live up to. This game has an incredible storyline even if you're not familiar with the original for the PSX (they recap the story of Shadow Moses in the instruction booklet). All in all, this game is just a mixture of a lot of great things. Almost every aspect of this game is perfect. I only had one complaint, and all of you who have played the game know what I'm getting at. You don't play as Solid Snake! Well in all fairness, in the first of the 2 chapters of the game you do play as the legend himself. But this part of the game is played out in and hour and a half or so (The game took me almost 15 hours to finish). As I was saying my only complaint, along with every other person in the world who has played this game is that you're forced to play as this pussy ass rookie code named Raiden, who looks like a girl and has never even been in real combat before (And yes, I know it's just a game, but it was a HUGE dissapointment). Anyway, this guy spends what sometimes feels like DAYS bitching with his INCREDIBLY annoying girlfriend over the com system every time you try to save the game. Sometimes you will actually feel like turning off the game when his girlfriend starts sooking about the fact that she doesn't know anything about Raiden's personal life. You wish you could just say, "Listen Bitch, I just want to save my freaking game!!! But, don't discourage, this was probably the only bad aspect of the game. And after an hour into this chapter, it doesn't bother you as much, but I did have to take a point off just because I was so let down. I still love the game.Sound Sound is fantastic. The music doesn't entirely stand out, but does suit the game. But the sound effects definatly do stand out. There is literally a perfect, totally realistic sound for everything you do in the game. Whether it be firing a gun or strangling a guard. And let's not forget the voice acting. As I said with the graphics, this has the best voice acting in any game... ever. Every voice actor is completely believable and sometimes it feels like you're actually watching a movie. Although at times the com system conversations would drag on, it seldom got boring. Regardless of this, the voices are so good I have to give it 5/5.Gameplay Gameplay is some of the best I've ever seen in a game, period. I can't find a flaw in this aspect of the game. I've always loved how you can press your back up to a wall and see around the corner. Anyway I won't bore you with details, just know that the gameplay deserves a 5/5. Although there were no VR missions. WTF?Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member.
