Summary This game has a great storyline to follow and the music is in good quality. Though its not the funest game there is and the fighting can get repetitive pretty fast and weapons hp get chewed up pretty fast. This a game for the people who like good story.Strength The weapon system is awsome it may be a little complex but this is probably only what makes the game play any good. The story line is awsome you probably won't any better one than this. you can get the story line you pay some attention. The world rebuilding fun and you place some ones house in a corner. good musocWeakness The weapon hp gets down too fast. The fighting gets boring. Fetching for the gate is not alot of fun.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary For starters, whatever you people out there payed for this game, you're being over charged(Believe me I should Know). This had to be one of the worst RPG's ever made. What irritated me even more was how all the magazines gave this such great reviews when it was first released. Anyways I'll give the overall evaluation.Sound The soundtrack was slightly better than the gameplay, but not much. In the end it seemed like a poor imitation of Chrono Cross's soundtrack with some of the Celtic melodies. The game lacked voiceovers, but again this wouldn't have helped the game anyways. Also, it would have been a shame to waste good voice talents on such a shallow game.Gameplay The storyline(what there was of one) sucked. It was like someone scribbled a quick story onto a cocktail napkin and used it as the plot. The characters both playable and non-playable were dull to say the least. For example, the military officer that used the genie to destroy the world was very lame. Which brings me to my next point. Who the Hell!!! were some of these people? There was no purpose for most of these characters to be there except to just to take up space on the screen. The combat system was boring and tedious for the most part. Building your own weapons by combining 2 or more older weapons wouldn't be so bad, except most of the weapons break after only a few hits. This is the most irritating part of the game, especially when it sometimes takes hours just to level up one of your choice weapons. Last, the town building part got old after about two dungeons. The dungeons are randomly generated which is an interesting concept, but alas does little or nothing to boost the intrigue of the gameWould you like to Comment? Summary Basically, The whole story of the game is that there is this eveil guy..who looks a lot like Hitler (only skinnier), and he's trying to revive the "Dark Genie" with his little fat parter. So they summon all these evil people and tell them to dance in front of the Dark Genie's lamp until her comes out. When the Genie finally comes out, he reeks havoc and destroys your little town where you, Toan (you can change his name), live...and about 5 other towns as well. Everything and everyone exept you, the mayor, and this creepy wizard guy are put inside little spheres and put inside "dungeons" and then are guarded by evil monsters and such. The mayor gives you supplies such as bread, water, a dagger, and repair powder (that is used to fix your weapon). Now go into the dungeons and collect the spheres and bring the village back to it's normal state! When you gather all the parts you get to rebuild the town and place everything the way you want it. In the dungeons, along with the spheres, you also find treasure chests. And depending on their sizes, you get different items. When you're done rebuilding your town, head to the next, and the next..and so on~~!Sound Battle music inside the dungeons, and peaceful music when your rebuilding the towns. You get used to it after a while though.Gameplay Very very nice. I loved the storyline and the fact that you can get new weapons from some treasure chests and when you use the weapon a lot, you have to repair it. And if you don't repair it..it breaks and disappears forever. When you find new weapons in the treasure chests they can be stronger!Would you like to Comment? Once Id gotten the hang of the controls and got through the first dungeon it got easier to understand.Sound Great music to go with the different dungeons and events, but it can be a bit repetative you might find yourself humming it! Overall the sound is good but sometimes well for me it stopped and Id be walking through a dungeon with no background music.Gameplay Very good! Some dungeons can be a bit repetative with the monsters but thats my only grudge! I love how its a long game because it means I get to play it more and more, setting up the houses to how the people want isnt hard if you do it by one by one.Would you like to Comment? Summary This games is wanderful!! Once you play and kno how to get items and get the hang of it, it's can be one of your favorite RPG games!.. It gets addicting!! Very addicting if you are and RPG fan you can can go the whole night without noticing! This game is wanderful I recomend it!Sound Sound.. Music his cool.. But thats all you get is the music pretty much. But I do have to say the bosses have sound and it tends to go with him making it great.! Well thats all I can say have fun playing the game!Gameplay The game play is fun but rather long. What I do have to say is that in the dungeons you tend to fight the same monsters over a again. I do have a grudge agaisnt that.. But I consider it a great game!!! Bosses are a lil to easy tho accept the first one but the others.. Are a lil way to easy.! Oh yeah and building the towns can be a lil difficult to suit there needs.. And make eveyr thing 100% This game has a great story line!Would you like to Comment? It’s basically use a Zelda type combat system, as you go through random dungeons that does get very repetitive quickly. This game cost pretty low now, so it still maybe worth pick up..Sound Sound seems to fit this game nicelyGameplay Creating new weapons are pretty nice, and building town system is creative & fun at first, but then it becomes boring and repetitive. You basically go into random dungeons picking up parts to make up a town, and then build the town by listening to what the town folks want. On the last level of the each dungeon you fight the boss then on to the next town to fix. After the first few towns I started getting very bored of doing that same thing over and over again. The only thing different was the textures of the dungeons and a few new monsters per town. I did have fun with it for the first few hours, but your best bet is to rent it first.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Dark Cloud is very unique. It has things that you'd never find in another RPG. The graphics are up-to-date, the gameplay kicks the crap out of Zelda, and the sound sounds like you are really there.Sound The sound is x-tremely realistic. Like the first duel you have in Divine Beast Cave against that MasterJacket is cool! The cling-clang of swords smashing together, the woosh of flips and spins, and the sound of an opponent getting their head slashed off. The running is pretty good. But the combat with the cutting down bad guys and all, it doesn't sound like a sword slashing, more like your about to hawk a loogie. But it's worthy, so I'll give sound a 5/5.Gameplay This game is beyond Zelda. If Zelda fans got their grimey paws on this, they'd chuck Ocarina of Time out the window. Building villages gives you the idea of Roller Coaster Tycoon or Sim Theme Park. Making sure the villagers are happy, ect. But there are more meters to keep an eye on. If the Thirst Meter goes down to zip-o, you lose health slowly. What about the Weapon Meter (MOST CRUCIAL)? If your Weapon Meter goes to zero, your weapon breaks and disappears. Thank you Repair Powder!! If this makes you feel better, your first weapon doesn't disappear, so you can repair it any time.Would you like to Comment? Summary This game floored me. I was expecting something dumb when first looking at it. I only bought it cuz I beat all the other games I had (Tokyo Extreme Racing, Final Fantasy X, NHL 2001..etc.) And needed something to keep me busy since wrecked my car and all. A whole nother story. I can't say one bad thing about this game.Sound The music match every part of the game well. From the side stories, to the towns, to the little incidents now and then. Very well thought out. Game didn't need voices, especially if you are an rpg player who gets so sucked into to the game you'd rather read it fast and hit the X button to keep going. Curious to find what will happen next.Gameplay The game play was solid. I never really got bored. One part of the game I did get stuck. Either I just wasn't thinking, thinking to hard or was looking past the obvious. But this game definitely has some parts of it that need to be planned out before you run in with swords a swingin' and guns blazin'. And so I don't ruin it, I won't say where it is or when, but there is a complete throw off from one part of the game to the next which caught me off guard. Also, building houses does take some patience and thought. Not in the boring or frustrating way. Just something to catch your interest. Oh, almost forgot. I almost cried everytime I broke my sword after I had it at level 10 or more and it was dicin' ppl at 200-700hp depending on who they were or if I was just pumped up. That was kind of cool though. Build up your weapons and not the ppl you have. Make the difficult raise up a little.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Rating Reviewed By AlexFrom Daytona Beach, Florida, USA, Earth Review Date 01/24/2003 Overall Rating ![]() 5 of 5 Rate this review? Summary NOTHING about this game is amazing. However, nothing is terrible either. The gameplay is very good, the graphics are fair, and the sound is slightly sub-par.But the whole is greater than it's parts. Although nothing is ground breaking, the game is still extremely fun. I am not a fan of the normal turn-based RPG's. In fact, I hate them. Not being turn-based may be what has drawn me to Dark Cloud. Sound Not going to the Grammy's, but appropriate enough for the game.CONCLUSION. Rent it before you buy it to make sure it's for you, but definitely give it a try. Personally I thoroughly enjoy playing and exploring. I give it a 5 out of 5. Which is really saying something. Gameplay The controls are easy, but can become a bit awkward when trying to rotate the camera while fighting. The world building aspect is nothing new, but quite enjoyable. It reminds me of my favorite SNES title, SoulBlazer. Now that was a great game. The dungeons all look the same graphically, but the randomness upon each re-entry is a breath of fresh air. Summary Dark cloud is a adventure game that is good (some peoples say that it's like zelda) i not think that it is that. But on one set i understand them who says so cause it is almost the same stile on it, but far away from the Zelda games!! The worst with this game is that it is so monotonous. You do the same in 5 different places (i think it was 5) and do the same things as you did at the other place, and on every place you get a new character and upgrade him so he be as good as the others! That's not fun at all in the lenght. But this game is not bad and it's not very good!!Sound The sound is also good. I know that it could be better if the characters have own voices, but there are games that are good even without voices! I think that it not was voices..hehe it was a time ago i played this! But if you buy this game be prepared that it is booring in the lenght!Gameplay The control is very good and the camera is also good in my opinion. But as i mentioned before is this game to monotonous. The funniest with the game is to build your own village. That shall sony have a very big plus for cause that highs this game up very much! The bosses of the caves is also bit of fun, and of course to catch a fish in the little water pools =) heheWould you like to Comment? It wasn't until after I had battled hundreds of enemies and solved and infinite amount of puzzles that I realized: This isn't like Zelda at all. Well, to be more realistic: this game is similar to Zelda, but only in completely irrelevant ways. I think that Kingdom Hearts is more like Zelda than this. The characters were likeable, and the story was a good, solid RPG type story. Unlike most RPGs, though, you could only use one of six people at a time, and you got your allies slowly, getting only one per dungeon, until the last, where you got nobody. Sound I loved it, to tell the truth. Every place seemed to have the right rhythm and tone for the setting. The sound effects all sounded right, and it never messed up my playing, because it was right under the action, where it would be heard, but not in the way.I do have a problem with the voice acting though. Because there wasn't any! It was just like playing a Final Fantasy on the PS, and I didn't really like that. There were already N64 games that had people talking, and they couldn't spare an extra $40,000 to hire a few no-names to do the voices, it's not like it was a huge game with tons of memory to take up, and it's not hard to put the voices into the game. Gameplay The battles were a little slow compared to other action/RPGs, but they were much cooler than most. You could be surrounded by skeleton warriors, lock on to one, do a simple combo followed up with a Braver-like jumping move and just barely miss the horizontal swipe from a guy behind you. You take out the guy you were locked onto, turn around and repeat on the enemy behind you. When you weren't in a Dungeon, though, everything still retained a good feeling. The days passed into night and back, and certain towns would close up shops and stuff, or maybe you could only catch a fish at night or at dawn or in the middle of the day or etc.... The most innovative feature of the entire game was the Georama engine. Build your own town, either the way you like it, or if you want something, the way that the townspeople like it. Of course, it was a little too simple for my tastes, something that I hear Dark Cloud 2 is working on. The hardest town was the last one, and anybody who's played it knows why. Rating Reviewed By Lady777 Jasmine RogersFrom San Jose, CA Review Date 12/05/2002 Overall Rating ![]() 5 of 5 Rate this review? Summary This game is really awesome. The graphics are good, not stellar but good. The game play is fun. The characters are cool. Although I do like rpg's with more characters this one is just fine the way it is.Best part of my review? If you like this game, you'll love: Final Fantasy X (I can't stand the other ones, but the graphics on this one are stellar, absolutely amazing). The gameplay is just excellent, rent it and you'll want to buy it! Chrono Cross (PS1): This game is completely ahead of it's time. It seems as if they were using PS2 graphics before it even came out. Really fun game. Takes a minute to get used to the types of magic you can use, they go into certain spots according to their power limit. You get way too many characters to ever really be able to play, but man did they put effort into this game. It's amazing, rent it! Sound Sound is fine as much as I could tell. Most of the time I turn the sound down and play my own cd!Gameplay Gameplay was good. At the end you have about 6 characters and you can only play them one at a time. Certain characters are needed to pass certain levels and that's ok. You can even switch during most battles so that works out.The only other thing about the game is building the towns back up. You have to put the homes in a certain way. Some people you talk to will want to be facing a certain direction, or next to another home, so you have to kind of figure that out. At one point I just had to go online and get help, couldn't figure out how to build it correctly. The game is long enough and fun enough! You'll love it. Very much like Zelda without some of the redundant game play features. Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary *Gameplay: Repetitive*Sound: Annoying *Graphics: Pretty Good *Naming your character using sailor words: Priceless Sound The sound on this game is just the same old dun dun dun crap that has plagued many rpg's in the past.Gameplay Gameplay is just the same thing Over and Over. The only fun I got out of this game was naming the main character a certain word that started with an F and ended with an R. I did enjoy building the town, and placing things where they best fit. It had the feel of Final Fantasy VII but didn't get it down.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I saw commercials and for $20 I thought, hey, why not? It turns out this is a great game, a modern cross between Secret of Mana and Soulblazer with much more functionality. And the weapon build system is great, the best system I've seen since materia(FF7). Although somewhat repetitive, definitely gets you addicted quick, this coming from a guy that has gone through FFT 5 times.Sound The sound on the other hand wasn't that great, it could be much better, very little effort put into it if you ask me.Gameplay Many different angles from which to build your stats, with yet several angles coming against you negatively (like thirst and weapon damage). This is a great buy for people who like to find treasure and build character stats, like me. I have poured in triple digit hours playing games like Harvest Moon or Azure Dreams.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Basicly a great game that deserves recignition, it has everything an action rpg should have. Great weapon system with little drawbacks.Sound Sound is good except for repetitive music. but the FX are good.Gameplay The gamplay is great in this game and it'll have you hooked for a long time. You can run around the randomly generated dugeons collecting atla at a slow pace or use a Dran's feather withcll double your speed. Smoothe attacks make it fun to. The combat may become a bit repetitve but is almost always fun. Your character never realy gets stronger. You have to bouild up their weapons with items and create new ones and all weapons have about 30 different stat catagories. Your characters attack and elemental powers are upped by the weapon and your defense is increased by special items along with your hp and watter gauge. Then you get to build towns witch is a lot of fun.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Just another plain old video game, nothing new here folks. There's nothing special here, nothing to really make you keep playing the game. I guessing this game is just made for the little'uns, but then its kinda odd how its rated for Teens.Sound It's hard to judge the sound because there isn't much of it (which may be a good thing, since some of the sounds are annoying)Gameplay Boring, typical, kinda stupid, little kid-ish.The game play is much more complex than it needs to be. Example: You have to make sure your character is hydrated so he can run around the cave. So it kinda limits your exploration, since he's always whining about getting thirsty. Very original.Sound Nice music and noise, but no voices and the main character never says anything through out the whole game but the people seem to understand his hand movements. Other than that it's very nice. You can even hear the waterfall getting stronger as you walk towards it.Gameplay I would have given it a 5 if it wasn't for the annoying thirst meter. Nice short battles. You don't even need to fight if you don't want to. In a regular rpg it would take hours to get through one floor because of all the random battles. Its takes about two minutes on this game. The wepon hit points were very clever.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary This game is very cool. The great aspects that it takes from other games (especially Zelda) make it a very easy game to get into. Toan is the main character in the game but he has some other friends join him along the way. The controls are easy to get used to and I think one of the best features of any game is making it so that your weapons can level up and making it so that you can add your weapon onto another weapon to make it more powerful.Sound I think the sound is very good. The weapons make cool sounds as they strike enemies. The music is more of a mood style where it changes depending on what scenario you're in. The music sounds similar to other rpg's I've played in the past but I don't find it to be boring at all.Gameplay The gameplay is good. At times it can be a little boring going through the same style of rooms all the time but the fact that the maps are randomly generated is a cool feature which means it adds some replay value. Gathering the Atla is easy enough and then when you get back out into the town you get to put together the town how you see fit. Making the towns is a lot of fun and you can take the advice of the townspeople and place their houses where they would like to try and get a special reward. Another great feature is the fishing in which you collect points that you can redeem for awesome rewards. Overall, gameplay is a total blast!Would you like to Comment? Summary Personally I think this game is worth buying. It has an interesting storyline about a boy (Toan)saving all the towns by collecting atla with his atlamallia. He has to destroy the evil genie that was let out of its lamp by an evil General bent on owning the world.Luckily, the Fairy King ( boy what an interesting name heh) has sealed the towns and villagers into atla. He gives you atlamalia ( a little stone thingie that goes on your wrist). His first mission is to talk to the divine beast Dran. Im sorry but I can't tell you anymore about this game. If your really interested buy/rent the game. By the way it doesnt take up much memory to save.Sound The sound isn't bad. The background music can get sorta boring. You hear sound when you hit a monster, defend, or just sigh.I think you should buy this game. Gameplay The game play is great. I can tell you that you wont finish this game in one sitting. The Objective in this game is to let all the people, houses, and they're things. you have to put the people in they're houses, and put they're things in the houses. This can be interesting because you can set the houses however you heart desires. Every time you compete a house you get a item.In this you dont level up your weapon does. you have to put attachments on your wep. and you can upgrade it, or status break it onto another weapon( by the way it takes 60% of that weapons skills and puts it onto a different weapon). you can make the best weapon this way. You will get more characters along your quest. Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary This game is a filler from final fantasy 10 and shadow hearts for me. The game starts off slow and boring, but i kind of got into the meat of the gamewich is upgrading the wepons and geting the differnt charecters. There is no spoken text in game. Overall i was not impressed with the game in the start but it grew on me after about 10 hours into it. If you want a game that can go at least 40 hours and beyond, then for the bargin deal of it being a greatest hits for only 19.99 new .I say go for it, plus used prices are falling. As soon as i finsh it i will be able to jump onto shadow hearts. Sound No real outstanding tracks, mostly mood music.Gameplay Consists mostly of goning through computer randomly generated dungeons. Collecting pieces of city pieces that you build after finding them in the dungeons.Building up the wepons is very free form, and most of the rpg elements of the game. | ||||||||||
