Summary

I have beaten the entire game on special agent and am now working on perfect agent. This game is definetely the best game on the N64. In fact it is one of the few reasons to own one along with Goldeneye and Zelda.
I'm sad to say I most likely won't be playing Perfect Dark 2 if there is one because I decided to go with the PS2 this time but at least I get Gran Turismo 2000 and MGS2. Anyway this game kicks ass in all places especially the multiplayer.

Whenever I sleepover at my friends house I bring it and an extra controller along with me and three of us play till 4 am.

Buy Now!!!

Just a note to all N64 gamers going to the PS2.
Don't worry about leaving Rare to much because a bunch of their employees left and made their own company and is making games for PS2. One is called Timesplitters and it looks kick ass I heard they also have another in the works that is more inricate and detailed like PD.
Whoohoo

Sound

The sound is everything I'd expect everything sounds real and there are cinema's before and after every level and sometimes in the middle of the level. It may not be cd quality music but is fits the game so well that its great. When your in a rush and trying to complete the last objective the music will get faster and your adrenaline will be pumping.

Gameplay

The gameplay is non-stop action and you won't get bored. It took me a while but I finally got golds on the firing range on all of the weopons. The single player is fun and it keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Perfect Dark has a huge challenge so don't expect to beat it in only a month unless your really hardcore. The best of course is the multiplayer. Play by yourself or with friends. I love having simulants and playing friends against a team of bots is great. There are tons of options to choose from so you can play any creative game you can think up. There is also a co-op mode and counter op mode.

This is now the only game I play out of the nine games I own. Nothing else compares. The only way I would recommend renting it is if you plan on selling your 64 right away. If so make sure you rent this first cause you don't want to miss out.

Summary

Welcome to the year 2023. Your new identity will be a top of the line agent named Joanna Dark. She's so perfect in fact she has been granted the code name Perfect Dark.

This game is a must for people who loved Goldeneye 64. Even if you haven't played Goldeneye 64 and don't know if you like it rent it. If a friend has it try it at your friends house. Just try it!

One of the coolest features is that you can play with your friends in the normal Solo Missions. You either play as partners trying to complete the same mission or one plays as Joanna and the other as an enemy Joanna will normaly encounter during a normal one player game.

This game not only has great Gameplay but there are cut screens before, after or even during your missions which adds up to hours of video with real voices.

There ar also many weapons to choose from. Like the Farsight. It can look though many layers of walls and you can shoot enemies from afar. Another gun I like is the Laptop Gun. Besides being a nice machine gun you can deploy it as a sentry gun which with shoot any enemy it sees.

This game even has cool new gadgets like night vision, Infra Red goggles, and X-Ray scanners. And feeling like no one notices you. That's probaly because you have a cool Cloaking Device on.

If you want to try something new and exciting get Perfect Dark.

Sound

The sound is really cool. During normal game play you hear a tune that coincides with the mission. When you get to a part where the battle tends to heat up the music changes to a more heavy metal type of music. When that change occurs you better switch to a heavier gun and shoot like crazy. Another, sign a enemy has spotted you or you've killed an enemy is that they yell out phrases like, "I've got a clear shot!" telling you to move. If you've killed them, before they die they might say, "I don't want to die!"

Another cool thing is that every spoken word is in real speech. This is done by Rare using MP3 compression. This helps majorly with all the video clips they have with real speech not text.

Gameplay

Compared to Goldeneye the AI is much smarter. If an enemy sees you it may run back to get more of his friends. Or even if they see you they may hide or duck out of the way to prevent being shot. If you get to close to conserve bullets they will engage you in hand to hand combat in which you get hit you will get hurt and also get dizzy.

Another thing that makes this game more difficult is that you shoot a civilian you might just as well press start and abort the mission because you've just failed it. Unlike Goldeneye 64 you can kill a few scientists of civilians and not get punished.

This is even move of a spy game than Goldeneye even. In one mission you can't just shut down a power core by a touch of a button, you have to use a X-Ray Scanner to press the right buttons to shut it down.

Sound

better than golden eye, instead of text in the top of the screen the characters actually talk with text as well. leaving the issue of sound slightly is my rather shocked fact that its an 18 in England, I was actually asked my age for the first time in buying a game, but i'm only half way through maybe there's more to come. I also have this game called mace the dark age, which some will be familiar with and it's only a 15 in England, and from what I've seem so far this game makes perfect dark look like the Oprah Winfrey show especially when you learn how to do the fatalities. but maybe it's getting stricter and kids will no longer be able to purchase super mario world

Gameplay

One thing I'd comment about is the sheer jump up in difficulty from agent to special agent. I havent yet completed all the missions on special agent and for a person who has completed golden eye all the way through on double-0 agent without dying once, that is really saying something.

Sound

SOUND: GoldenEye to the next level. The voices are crisp and some of the things they say are great. "Why me?" and "You...bitch..." are great. The environment sounds are great too; things like machinery, elevators, guards walking, hoverbikes, and water all really add to the game. Of course, there's the gunfire -- definitely similar to GoldenEye, but a lot more variety. Finally, the music really rounds out the game.
A personal issue, however, why does Joanna have an English accent? We already had Bond in GoldenEye! Let's have some American covert operatives who can kick ass and save the world!

Gameplay

GAMEPLAY: GoldenEye warmed over, basically. I like a few of the touchups, but being able to jump would've been nice. GoldenEye was a great interface, and I believe this is a case of if it ain't broke, don't fix it (or at least don't screw it up too much). When starting out, the difference between 'Hold the button down' and 'Just tap it' became a little annoying and it made changing weapons, reloading, and changing modes a little confusing until everyone got the timing down; a very minor flaw.

Summary

Perfect Dark is an spectacular game which must be played by anybody who owns an N64.Nearly everything about this game is excellent ...but what can i say it was made by Rare and we all know what Rare can do when they set out to make a game. Many people say that Perfect Dark is just Goldeneye polished up and i have to agree with this in some aspects....but i dont consider this game a clone of the superb Goldeneye but but an evolved version of the game. As soon as you play Perfect Dark you will notice the similaritys between it and Goldeneye. In Perfect Dark there is quite a bit of gore which is very uncommon in N64 titles which are infamous for their childish games and lack of mature games. And i do have to say that the gore gives a good effect to the game and makes it that little more realistic.

Perfect Dark brings you into the world of Johanna Dark who is a spy deployed by the carrington institute who is sent out to infiltrate the DataDyne corp and with her you travel through 9 missions (17 levels) and each mission is very large and full of adventure and fast paced action!.

Unlike Goldeneye , Perfect Dark had to come up with its own story line and not rely on the fact that anyone who played this game had already seen the movie. Rare has obvisiouly put a lot of thought into the Perfect Dark story line and they have done a good job to. The story story line is full of twists and turns ...but if you want to get the most out of this story you must play the game in perfect agent because if you play through it in the agent mode or the special agent mode you only get part of the story this way. So take my advice an play through it in Perfect Agent.

Sound

The sound in Perfect Dark is amazing and in full with in- game speech which is sooo uncommon in cartridges but Rare managed to make the sound perfect . And to back all that up the game supports Dolby surround sound which gives the game even more atmosphere (that is if you have the equipment). Also when you kill one of the enimies you can hear them screaming and shouting at you and if you shoot them in the neck you can hear them trying to take in a gasp of air which i must say sounds very cool indeed.I just wonder how the cramed so much sound into a cartridge?

Gameplay

The single player mode in Perfect Dark is amazing and a lot of fun to play. Each level is very well constructed. Throughout the game you will meet a load of different types of gaurds and all of you enemies are very well constructed and their deaths are stunning.

As with Goldeneye there are 3 difficulty settings Agent , Special Agent and Perfect Agent.Agent mode is very easy and you will make it through the game in a few hours , Special Agent is a good deal harder and Perfect Agent is very difficult indeed and i am sure that most owners of this game will not make it through the game on Perfect Agent.

In Perfect Dark there are loads of features and options which enhance the gameplay which include a co-operative mode , a counter-operative mode (both of which are extremely fun to play!), an excellent multiplayer mode, 8 bots for multiplayer which have incredible AI , the AI of the bots are smarter and surpass those of Goldeneye , a combat simulator in which you can customise almost anything which is to be in the multiplayer battle , a large training facility , lots of different deathmatch scenarios , over 40 weapons , 16 multiplayer arenas , high resolution mode plus the game supports dolby surround sound. So im sure that a game which such a wide choice of options and features will keep even the best of gamers happy for a long time!.

Summary

Hell yeah, this game rocks. If you have a 64 and you love FPS and deathmatch game then you should get this game. Heck, if you don’t go buy a 64 just for it, it’s worth it, believe me. While the single player is good, the deathmatch is where it shines. This is THE multiplayer game, on consoles anyway. There are so many moments of awe, here’s just one. Once at the fortress I was running around when I picked up a combat boost, slowing down the game to a Matrix style shoot out. I rounded a corner and out to one of the cat walks when I met up with a rocket launcher toting sim. He fired as I side stepped the rocket and killed him. I rejoiced and then noticed the rocket was radically changing direction and coming back at me. While still in slo-mo I back-peddled and fired, hitting it just before it hit me. I barely survived the explosion. Then the game jumped back to normal speed, whereupon I was instantly gunned down. Then there’s the fact that there’s 16 levels and you can customize everything and save all your stats. It rocks.

Sound

Rare outdid themselves again. The music is great, if not better than 007’s, and the voice acting is great. I just love hearing the enemies scream and yell, “You bitch!” as they meet their demise.

Gameplay

Remember those perfect controls from 007? There back and so is the great gameplay. Hell I’d say its even better. The action is faster paced and a lot more fun this time around. Rare has packed so much good stuff onto this cart. If you loved the death animations from 007 you’ll die for PD’s. There’s loads more. I even once had a guy limping after me. Shoot a gun out of a guy’s hand and he’ll pick it back up. Or maybe he’ll punch you and kill you with your own weapon. Sound cool? Then throw in the best deathmatching on a console ever and you’ve got a winner by tenfold. This game kicks so much ass. It’s so fun to play with the new weaponry and gadgets too. How does x-ray and night vision sound? Then there’s the ultra cool far sight. They took the coolest weapon ever, which of course is my fave from Quake, the Rail Gun, and they make it even better by having it see through walls and kill unknowing foes. Those damn camping bastards days are numbered. I could go on forever, so bottom line: Best damn 64 game ever.

Sound

The sound in PD is also excellent. And rather than in GE007 where the character's conversations were written at the top of the screen, this time around there is actually speech. Unfortunately, the chacacter's lips dont move when they are talking, but if you think this is a major flaw, well I think you're a bit picky. The sounds I like the most in this game are the sounds of the guns reloading. They sound very cool

Gameplay

The gameplay in this game has unparalled brilliance and is better than ANY console FPS around. The reason why I say console FPS, is because HalfLife is on the PC, and well, PerfectDark isn't quite as good as HalfLife. The day I brought perfect dark was a whole new beginning for me. Having previously mastered Goldeneye, I headed straight for the solo missions, and started the first mission on Perfect Agent, and needless to say the Perfect Agent mission on PD, are a LOT more challening than the 00 Agent on GE007. The game play is action packed from start to finish. There will be times when you will find yourself crouching behind a desk or a couch during a gunfight, hopelessly short on ammo. It's almost like being in a John Woo film. Gameplay in single player, multiplayer, co-op and counter-op is brilliant in every aspect

Sound

The sounds are also up to the standard of the gameplay and graphics. The sounds of the guns firing are so lifelike. The reloading sounds are perfection and the music can be very good. One thing that does annoy me is that when you die on multiplayer mode, it sounds like they have taken the music from 'who wants to be a millionaire'.

Gameplay

People say it's to much like Goldeneye! SO!!!!!
Goldeneye was a classic and any other game to follow in it's footsteps would be gladly be bough by me. The levels are well thought out and arranged with appropriate difficulty settings for beginners and masters. I've never played such an amazing game. The reloading in the game is also 1st class. I spent hours just reloading the guns cause it looks cool. The multiplayer is also better than goldeneye with it's additional features such as simulants etc. What more can I say
