Summary Madden 2000 has to be the best football game there ever has been. The gameplay is great. There are great options. The graphics are absolutelyfantastic and the sound is the best I have ever heard. Sound The sound is wonderful. THe grunts and groans make it all the more realistic. The only thingwrong was that Madden and Summerall's commentary was somewhat repetitive. Gameplay The gameplay is great. The control is very easy to learn and the way you can lead your receiver is a good new feature. The options are as good as ever. The only thing missing is the all-time teams but that is no real loss.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. It has great graphics, gameplay, and sound to keep you satisfied for quite some time to come. Madden has beaten Quarterback club in every thing but the graphics department. This game is overall the best football game for the Nintendo 64 and it probubaly will be far quite some time to come. This is pretty much the same game as last year but you get the new teams the Titans and the Browns so go buy this game right now!!!!!Sound The sound in this title is the most improved part of the game from last year. Most of the time Pat Summerall and John Madden even sound like they do on tv. Pat Summerall gives all of the info that is needed like he does in real life and he even adds a little extra. In last years game, Madden 99, Pat Summerall would barely even say anything informative or useful for your advantage. Pat Summerall will say things that will help you out in winning the football game. He will say things like," The defense comes out in a nickel formation,"or," The offense is in the I-formation." This can be very useful to the player because when Pat says things like that you will know when to audible to a running of passing play. Now lets move on to Madden. This is the only part of the commentary that bugs me. On tv you will always hear John Madden blurting out color commentary after every play but in this game he barely ever talks. When he eventualy talks up he sounds kind of stupid and muffled. The things he says are kind of tacky and hard to understand. I have to admit that he does say some good things ever ounce in a while but he does not say enough things to keep me entertained. As we move on to the in game sounds I would like to say that this is the best sound in the game. The grunts and groans of the players as the plays progress is amazing and a delight to the hears. RDight when the play starts you hear the colliding of pads and the crushing of bones on injuries. The only complaint that I have for the in game sounds is the crowd. They sound like constant static on a radio. You might not notice this at first but as you play the game for a while you will get annoyed. If you like a game that sounds good than this is a treat for you. Gameplay The gameplay has by far been the best part of Madden football over the years. The gameplay in Madden has beaten ever other football game out there including Gameday and Quarterback club. Right when you do your first play in madden you will notice how precise the movement is over last years effort. Emediatly I noticed that the players did not slide all over the place like every othe madden game before. Not only do the players not slide but they also are effected by the weather. If it snows or rains you will notice that the control is a little slippery. Some of my running backs even sliped and fell on the ground. If it rains thatn eventually after you play for a little while you running back while be caked with mud. When it snows you can see the player breath when they blow out air. The running game last year was really hard. The only possible way to run was to take it hard to the outside which still ended up with a big loss. The only way you could run was if you had barry sanders or mike alstott. you could just forget about running up the middle. This year the running and passing games have much been improved. The blockers actually open up holes for the runner to go up the middle. You could have a bad running back and still get good yardage. In the passing game the recievers actually try to catch the football in stead of watching it pass on by. The computer AI has been improved a lot since last year too. The computer audibles on offence and deffence depending on what play you have. The game is actually easy on rookie, hard on veteran, and really hard on the top two difficulty levels of play.If you like a game that will keep you challenged for a long time this is a good game for you. Summary This game plays like a football game, feels like a football game but does not look like a football game.Sound What Sound. Oh, you mean the crowd and occasinal commentry from Pat Summeral. The sound in this game hardly exist. John Madden does not even talk but once a game and Summeral is as boring as you can get. The sound really detracks from the game and makes it less entertaning to playGameplay The gameplay is the best you can get. With options that let you controll all the aspects of the game and to tweak the AI difficulty, it makes for a great football sim.Would you like to Comment? If you are a madden fan you should ceck it out!Sound The sound of this game is lame. It needs to be much louder. The collision of helmets and pads are way to quiet. The qb's calls are to much of a whisper hut, hut. The gameplay makes up for the sound though.Gameplay Gameplay is very easy to figure out. It controls pretty good, not perfect. When you catch a pass runing towards the qb you will slide about five yards like your on ice. You can get your helmet knocked off which is very cool. This game is a buyer for all madden fans!Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary This game to me means that football will always be a part of my life even though I lose by forty points I still can play another day and this game has everything I could possibly want in a game big beefy men that run like a motha when you pushed the speed button and the dum guy expressions of joy when they did something like a sack a nice hit down the middle or a run stopping block and after playing this game so much when I got it When football season ended the joy of season had ended and also the joy of playing I guess I got to wait till next season to relive that joy and that's why I'm giving it a 4 star reviewSound The sound was average the game didn't pump me up and john madden said the same thing like his helmet came off but he never made me feel like he was doing a fox's sport job maybe they should pay him more to say more intresting things like he says on tv but the crowd sound like a vaccum after listening for a little bit but I never paid attention because I was to much into the game but I like the referess they sound real and the whistle after the play was goodGameplay The gameplay was like nothing I had ever seen before when I tackled it looked real to me and when I ran it looked like it was actually running so but I could never beat this game on all-madden so I had to be persisent to pull out that first win but it played that way I expected to play nice and smooth none of that stuff where it looks like it's on arcade mode and when my player got tackled it was the kinda of like the same animation it always did so how was I supposed to know that it could be better now I know but I hate when I try to throw it deep and when I throw a bullet pass it 3 out of 5 times they intercept but I guess it was just me but the gameplay was great for me but only if I could dominateWould you like to Comment? For its time it was great but not even compared with NFL 2K which was easily last years best sports game which is easily explained by the fact that DC has double the bits of N64(128 to 64). But for N64 this was a great game.Sound John Madden and Pat Summerall commentate the game and they dont repeat too much but it becomes obvious after a while. All and all it is a fair game possibly the best football for 99-2000 for the N64 or PS1 and is a much better choice than any NFL Gamedays.Gameplay The gameplay is very fast and fun. One of the biggest problems is that that ball appears to be going through the WR when he catches the ball. It is definatly a brek through for N64 though and is much better than the PS1 version.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Rating Reviewed By LerouxFrom United States Review Date 09/16/2001 Overall Rating ![]() 4 of 5 Rate this review? Summary There's a lot of good football game and a lot of bad football games, and there's something for everyone these days. Arcade goers will enjoy the Blitz series. There's also more realistic action in the forms of the Quarterback Club, 2K, Gameday, and my personal favorite, the Madden series. Now, the Madden series is as realistic as football can get, at least on the Nintendo 64. It combines numerous football elements (obviously), and although it is a sports game, there are many strategy elements that work their way into the play too. Quick reflexes are necessary for those sixty yard rushes and a good knowledge of football is needed to choose the players who you want or sometimes need on your team. It's a great big melting pot of success to be honest.Madden NFL 2000 has quite a vast variety of modes, which is surprising when you consider that football isn't really a game with a lot of variations (unless you're from outside the US, where it's soccer). There are two main ways to play - arcade and traditional. Arcade is by far the easier. Choosing one or the other does not affect the action on the field; it just changes the way you call plays. If you choose arcade calling plays is very simple, all you do is pick from the small selection. Under traditional though, you have to go through mini sub screens to find your play, which can take a while if you don't know where what you're looking for is. The advantage to choosing traditional is that there are a lot more plays to choose from, and mastering traditional will really help out in the long run. There are other options too. You can play and exhibition game, try and win the Super Bowl in season mode, try and build a dynasty with your team in franchise mode (which can last up to fifteen seasons!), have a fantasy draft, or enter into a tournament. You can set penalty levels, weather conditions, difficulty settings, and other similar features too. There's also options like the famous "Madden challenges" where you try and complete objectives such as rushing for one hundred yards, and you can even edit play books and create your own football plays. It's pretty much endless. If you buy Madden 2000, you'll surely get all the football you crave, but you'll need to buy a controller pack to save data because the game has no in-game save feature, like most other Maddens. The graphics are a mixed bag. The players look pretty good for twenty two of them possibly being on screen at one, and there's never slow down in the game, which is impressive. However, the players look both blocky and grainy, especially when they do celebration taunts and the such. The play calling screens are a bit small and if you sit far away from the television they might be a little hard to see, but it's really not that much of a problem. John Madden and his partner who he does his FOX broadcasts with (I forgot his name) do the play by play for the game, and they do it pretty well. They have a good variety of comments and they usually manage to not repeat themselves that often, although it does happen. Other than this, the only other recognizable sound is the hideous grunts the players let loose, and those are pretty realistic as expected. Madden NFL 2000 is a great representation of football, and there's something for everyone with the amount of modes and the arcade and traditional settings. Replay value is infinite with thirty-one teams, the ability to trade, release, sign, and draft players, and plenty of modes to use them in under different settings. The only possible downsides are the out of date rosters and the mediocre graphics and sound. Other than that, Madden NFL 2000 is a fun football game with lots of on the field action and strategic play calling which should appeal to the casual football fan as well as the die-hard stat and strategy freak. Here, Madden 2000 ( M2K ) is very strong. Overall, the players look realistic and bad teams are bad, good teams are good and all that. Good qbs make plays and bad ones fumble or get sacked. The sound has always been a struggling part of this franchise but no doubt it is a better game than '99.Sound Very good sound for the N64. I prefer cartridge over cd due to load time and ease of play ( the psx games tend to boggle me ) but the sound needs a little work. Indeed, the game is very good and the sound is there, good voices by the Fox crew and good sounds. The commercial made this game look a hell of a lot better than it does and sound a hell of a lot better as well but I guess that was the whole point. Still, the sound needs to be improved a little and where's the music?Gameplay Flawless gampley absolutely perfect. Everyone did what was expected of them, everyone plays like they do in real life and the controls are very easy, I did jukes and jives very easily.Would you like to Comment? The game pretty much perfect when it comes to gameplay, graphic, and features but falls short again in the sound department. Overall, even with some flaws, Madden 2000 is the football game to buy for another year.Sound This category is a huge disappoint in the game. It is much better than last year but it is still horrible. I know that there is the cartrige to blame for this but I think EA could of done a better job. The tackles and sounds of the game are all good exept for the announcers. The announcing is not all that bad but the quality of it is horrible. You can barely hear them and when you do hear them they sound muffled and sound like a radio with a lot of static. Pat does a good job of telling what is happening in the play but John Madden barely talks and when he does he does not sound funny or that dramatic. Madden repeates a lot of times so he can get boring. This part of Madden series needs a lot of work. Gameplay Much easier to play this year. The players move just like in real life. The offensive line opens up holes so the running back can run through. Speed is boosted up a couple notches this year. Jukes, spins, and other moves are performed easily. Great improvement over last year.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary This is probably the best football game I have played to date(I still have not played NFL 2000 for the Dreamcast). The graphics are solid, the gameplay is the best, and there are plenty of options. If you won"t the best in football simulation with top gameplay Madden 2000 fits the bill!Sound The sound is just like last years. Over and over again Madden says the same things and they do not even say the players names. However, the games sound effects are good and should not effect the overall feel of the game.Gameplay There are basically no weaknesses with the gameplay. All the moves (jukes, spins, etc.) are present. On the harder levels the game plays quite realistically and the player feels like they are in total control of both the defense and offense.Would you like to Comment? Summary They took a great game (Madden "99) and made it a good one (2K). By apparently trying to pull in the NFL Blitz crowd, they added some silly animations of things that essentially never happen in football, and made the player animations look like otherworldly steroid freaks. They also eliminated the historical teams. I"d give this game 5 stars if they had taken 99, updated the rosters, added the sideline animations & additional commentary, added the new check-off audible passing routes at the line, and left the rest alone. I returned it & went back to playing "99.Sound An improvement. There's more commentary, and it's generally less out of place. The crowd noise could use some work. Until you get used to it, you'll think there's something wrong with your tv.Gameplay Game play remains generally good. No real changes. The best new feature is that you have the ability to audible at the line not just to set plays, but you can pick a specific receiver and tell him to run a specific route. The new player-specified camera angles I found more annoying than anything else.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. A definite step backward from Madden 99. No all-time teams, utterly confusing setup menus, redundant play-by-play announcing, difficult to follow kicking/punting icon, virtually same playbook as "99, etc. Certainly an entertaining game, but not in the league that we have come to expect from Madden. Question, Why should I have to find codes on the internet and enter them manually to have access to many - not all! - of the all-time teams of Madden 99?Sound Grating, irritating sound. Thought I had a jet in my room the entire game. Dedicated cheers would be great like "Go, Pack go."Gameplay Improvements in the gimmicks like helmets coming off, but overall, no real advancements from '99. Still can't send a man in motion manually. As always, virtually impossible to sack the QB and completely, frustratingly impossible to block a punt or kick. Defensive line penetration is virtually non-existent. Penalties almost always go for the computer. As is always the case, shutouts vs. the computer are virtually impossible as miraculously it completes everything under the sun regardless of your defense when a shutout is imminent.Would you like to Comment? I'm glad I rented it because I will never buy this crappy game, even for $5 dollars. The menu takes a day to figure out and the background is no where as classy as '99. This whole game is a y2k glitch. Sound Great.Gameplay Gameplay was smooth and as good as the old game, but the rosters are their traditonal based on the previous years' players, but try to get the roster as accurate to this year. Which is stupid. You end up with the Broncos w/no Elway and an underrated Griese, but the other teams have old players that weren't traded till after the game. Elway should be on it b/c it's based on the Broncos/Falcons superbowl season. You no longer have to wait for the players to run downfield after a td, which is better. Would you like to Comment? I thought the 99 version was/is much more realistic in terms of graphics. All of the Players in 2000 look like bloated versions of Gilbert Brown. They look so unrealistic it"s hard for me to even look at the screen let alone play the game. On the plus side the game is still easy to play, unlike QBC 2000 which is really hard to pass in.Sound The sounds are good. Madden is still too repetitive. I wish the announcers would use the players names in relation to plays and announce all the players that make a tackle. Often two or more players are in on a defensive play.Gameplay Still easy to playWould you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member.
