Summary This game is the one I had in mind when I shelled out the bucks for an N64, and most games hyped as much as this one have a tall order to fill. Zelda 64 does it, it"s an amazing game with every facet that made the Zelda series one of the all-time great series in videogames. Old-time Zelda fans will see plenty of familiar items, but it"s no simple rehash of an "80s NES game.Sound I know, it"s not a CD-based system, but the audio is used to great advantage, more so than most other games. It uses audio to guide the player, and the player can play music (simplistic, but catchy) to advance in the game. The game"s subtitle "Ocarina of Time" is well-chosen, the game is almost as much about sound as it is about sight, and it works extremely well.Gameplay The Ocarina is one of the really unique gameplay features, it uses the N64 controller much like a musical instrument allowing the player to use music as part of the game. As an adventure game, it has plenty of exploring to do and lots of secret areas, it even uses the rumble-pak to give hints as to the location of secret areas. Like the other games in the Zelda series, it has simple puzzles to solve, and little sub-games as well. Different enemies are affected by different weapons, and Link (you get to name him anything you like) acquires different skills and weapons as the game progresses, like any other Zelda game.Would you like to Comment? Took creativeness to create this, though (*psst*) it was mainly based on the original LOZ. (You know where this 5-star rating is going to, right?)Sound The sound... 5 stars. How can all of that be described? There are like one million sounds in this friggin' game! (And they all sound awesome.) I really like that Gerudo Valley theme!Gameplay Simple, yet not so simple. Walking around is easy, as it always should be. But the sword combos and junk was neat, and the Ocarina? Forget the simple songs! That thing has an 1 1/2 OCTIVE RANGE. They went beyond notes for the game. If you fool around with it long enough (or buy the book I got) you'll see that you can gradually raise the notes with the control stick and get 'em flat and up to the next highest note with Z and R. I'm no musical genius, but I can play that Kakariko Villiage theme! (Got that from the book. E-Mail me if you wanna know how.) Plus the Z-Targeting and horse stuff was cool.Would you like to Comment? Summary Overall - 4 stars. This game wasn"t perfect but it was close enough. I enjoyed the ending scene although many of my friends all that work for a little short scene like that wasn"t worth it. Overall, it"s great but it comes before Link to the Past story wise so it"s a little confusing having tot ell the story where we already knew about it, but I got through it.Sound I loved the Gerudo City Theme! The music isgreat the slash of the sword against anything is superior. Even without " cd " quality, this game still had good solid sound.Gameplay The Gameplay is only a 3. Simple, it's not extraordinary but it's not shabby either. The walking around was easy enough but the fighting left something to be desired. The fighting wasn't too tough butthe angles were not quite to my liking. Also, the length of the game is a little too short, LONGER than Star Fox but for a game of this magnitude, why not have it be 15 or 20 temples? At any rate, the gameplay's there.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. This game is arguably the best role playing game of all time, and definately the best N64 game so far. Wow, the end scene was a little long, I kept saying " turn off now?" and it kept going, the end scene was funny and cute!Overall- this game kicks some major... well let"s just say it rocks and leave it at that okie? :) Sound Good, but not superbGameplay WowWould you like to Comment? Summary I don"t think this should be classified as an RPG because it is more of an Action\Adventure type of game. I found the lack of skill needed to complete this game disturbing. It was too easy! Nintendo should stop making so many games that target 8 to 12 year olds(like this title). I must say the ending was one of the worst I have ever seen.Sound It sounded like they didn't put much effort here.Gameplay Gameplay was alright but the camera angles got really annoying.Would you like to Comment? Summary Zelda is one of the best games to come out on the N64 to date. It is an overall enjoyable expierence that I know I will continue to play when people have abondoned this generation of systems for the future generations, just like I still play the original 2 Zeldas for the NES and the 1 for the SNES. This just continues the traditions and is a great addition to the N64 librarySound The FX and background music are great. I love listening to the opening theme music and a lot of the other portions of the game. I have well over half of the game's musical score in MIDI files on my computer. The sounds blends in very well with the rest of the game and are appropriate with the actions they portray. I am actually glad that they didn't incorporate speech into Zelda because they would have invariably messed it up (remember Slippy from Star Fox 64? ::Shudder::) But the few lines Link do say aren't annoying and don't aggrivate. A very well done score.Gameplay Solid straight through. The unique targeting system really helped this game a lot and I had no problems with camera angles that are so frequently problamatic for this type of game. The combat section of this could be seperated into a game all of its own (hmmm... Brave Fencer Zelda...). 100% great.Would you like to Comment? You really believe that you are Link and the world of Hyrule is there for you to save, I can"t really explain it but you are the game. No game has ever hooked me like this one, the amount of detail is unreal. A must have, if you consider yourself a true gamer then you must play this game. I only wish that I was an English major so I could better describe how great this game really is. A master piece.Sound I don't know how anyone can complain about the sound in this game, the music is beautiful! The Ocarina adds so much to the game, every time you play the instrument is pure joy. The themes to each land will remain in your head for days come even after you finished the game. This game revolves around music so you can bet that the sound is top quality. My words can not do it justice, hear it for yourself!Gameplay Innovating! The Z lock is one of the best things to happen to the video game community. Pretty much as close to perfect as you'll get except that there really are a boat load of buttons, but after playing for a couple of hours you don't even notice. The controls become second nature.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. To give you some idea how much I like it, it is the only game I have ever played which I have completed 4 times. Everything about this game is great and anyone who says anything otherwise should play the ending battle again and they will soon appreciate how good it is.Sound Although most of it is good, there are some naff tunes e.g. the fight against Volvagia but on the whole they are good. Amazingly though, they were all composed by the same man.Gameplay For a game of its size, there are few irriatating aspects of the game. It controls nicely, has a good way of selecting your items and also has the wonderful Z button which changes the camera angle to being behind you. Brilliant.Would you like to Comment? If you have a Playstation get FF7 or FF8. Zelda is still one of the best N64 games.Sound The sound in Zelda is super awesome. You would not think N64 would do very good in sound but with Zelda they do it. The sounds does not compare to FF7 but for an N64 game it is very very good.Gameplay The gameplay in Zelda is ok but all the levels I found boring. There're only 2 that I thought were fun. FF7 is much more fun than Zelda.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Zelda has to be the best game for the N64. There are so many things to do and much land to discover. The control is easy to learn for even newbies. Nothing else has captivated me more than Zelda for the N64.Sound The music in Zelda is wonderful. I only wish the characters spoke. There is so much reading which could have been included in the sound track instead.Gameplay I can't say enough about the wonderful experience of playing Zelda. The Ocarina is a great and different road to travel. I'm a musician, so I thought this was especially fun. The vast areas to explore and discover are great and only get better with the addition of Epona, the horse. Time travel is different for me, and proved a little confusing at first. Sideline gameplay such as Epona's racing, the masks, and the race to deliver things from place to place enhanced Zelda proper. I can't think of anything bad to say about this great game!Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary This game best game for N64. It will truly astonish all RPG gamers.Sound It sounds like you are really there. This is the BEST game in the N64 market.Gameplay The gameplay is so simple. It will be simple for begginners to learn and no problem for the pros. The controls and sword moves are incredibly easy to learn. The puzzles in Zelda are tough to challenge, and I tell ya, there is a MILLION puzzles.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. All RPG and Adventure gamers should buy this game if they haven"t! The Story, puzzles, gameplay, and Miyamoto"s magic. 1998 Game of the Year, RPG game of the Year, and Console Game of the Year. What more can you ask? Sound Some of the N64 games do have sub-par sound but not Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Awesome music. It is all deep and full of richness. Gamers will love it, but some past Zelda gamers will be dissapointed by the fact that this version of Zelda doesn't have the original Zelda remix. Still, really, really great music. Maybe that Star Wars composer can do the Zelda 6's music? Gameplay There is so much items and things to do in this game you would think it would be tough to remember it all. Not a problem. The Z targeting system is easy and makes battles fun. Plus the items inventory is easy to use. Would you like to Comment? Summary This is a game that can"t be denied a first place position. It is fun to play and it is one of those games you can play over and over again. Some people say that FF7 is better than Zelda but those who know a good game, knows that Zelda is better. Sound Because this game is a cartrige, Zelda doesn't have the sound quality like playstation games. But it makes up for it by giving you an orcarina in which you can make up your old songs.Gameplay The game play is very nice. Even though the game can be difficult at times, Navi the fairy that follows you around and helps you out. This game is a keeper.Would you like to Comment? This is basically zelda: A link to the past in 3d.Sound The best music in this game was taken from zelda 3. The new music is good, but not great.Gameplay You only play this game through once. There's basically no replay value in this game. The secreat is pathetic. Games made by rare has better secreats than this. Also this game is way too easy.Would you like to Comment? No game has come along and wowed me this much since I first saw Goldeneye, realized the coolness of this Nintendo game, and left my playstation in the closet to collect dustSound The sounds and songs bring an ambience to the game that makes you remember it. Particularily cool is the music in the temple of time. Makes you feel like you are on a medeival quest.Gameplay The gameplay is amazing. You are constantly doing new tasks, using all your weapons and items, and the story or action never get boring. Way above FF8 because Hyrule is a convincing 3-d world. FF8 is ok, but it feels like your just playing screens, moving from one to the next. Zelda makes you feel like you are actually in Hyrule.Would you like to Comment? Now I"m just waiting for Zelda Gaiden.Sound One thing that would of made this game better is if they used voices for the character. The music and the sound effects are very goodGameplay The game play is excellent. Some of the camera angles are a little hard to get the hang of like when you go into the alley of the market. Summary I bought this game expecting it to be a masterpiece and that it would never leave my Nintendo 64, but now it will never leave my toilet, and I used the instruction manual as toilet paper. This game is extremely boring and leaves you with no reason to keep playing. If you want a great RPG with an actual storyline, buy something from the Final Fantasy series.Sound Awful sound.Gameplay Terrible gameplay.Would you like to Comment?
