Sound

The sound was TWO notches above excellent. It was crisp, clear, and concise. You can here every word from the joke cracking spiderman, and every corny pun out of the green goblin. The music was crytal clear, and music matched the suspense that was on the level(made my palms sweat). Another smokin' job from those boys a activision.

Gameplay

Game play was excellent as well. The figting system was deep, and the story stayed pretty true to the movie. The web tecniques were a super bonus as well you have some on there that was not on the two previos one, and that made even more fun to beat up on thugs. New combos also rounded the game play, and tecniques like advaced dodging made it seem like you were accually in spideys webbed boots. 10 out of 10. I forgot to add that the game did freeze on me a couple time(2).

Sound

This is an area i had a couple of gripes about.
Big plus for using the actual actors from the movie. The narator from the Training is quite funny.
But all this gets repeitive after awhile. So does the music. At one point i turned the music off and added my own likings in.

Gameplay

The neat thing about this outting, is that the control scheme was updated and not using the "Tony Hawk" game engine or whatever. This did feel more comfortable.
One this that is sugessested is that you jump right into Tutorial mode. There are so many commands to remerber, that you'll either forget your name or forget where you live.
One gripe i had was the stealth part.Sometimes i felt that the game couldn't detect if you were in stealth mode or not.
The challenge of this game is just right. At some points it was difficult, but it made you want to try hard.

Summary

OHHHHHHHH YEAHHHHH!!! That's when you'll find yourself screaming like a girl when you first freefall 20 stories onto the Green Goblin's airacraft and pound his ugly face in!
This game is truly magnificent. It never disappointed me, and all my expectations were met(and they're pretty high). Activision and Treyarch have done an awesome job in re-creating Spidey.
I myself am not a major Spider-Man fan, but after playing this game, it has really spurred my interest in the web-slinging sensation.
The moment you start playing this game, you'll be hooked. I loved the first Spider-Man game, and this game finally has set the standard for all super hero games.
If you ever have fifty bucks to spend on a game, then go buy this. At least rent it if you have any doubts, because I'm telling you that this is without a doubt the best game of spring 2002.

Sound

When it comes to sound, I don't really pay attention, because I'm too busy fighting the green goblin. Using Toby Maguire's and Williams Dafoe's voice was a nice touch, but Toby had to go. I preferred the voice used in the original Spiderman. The background music was descent, but like I mentioned before you don't really notice it. Orchestral music became more fluid and dramatic during more tense levels. All in all nothing to go postal over.

Gameplay

The secret to a quality game isn't graphics (Xbox take note, because that's all you care about.) The real secret is having the best gameplay for years to come. Spiderman succeeds in this area because of it's unique combat moves and dozens of extra mini games to keep you busy. Trying your best to beat up enemys in stlye to gain high points is something this game does very well. You'll spend hours doing combat moves that will rack up those points. Although the story isn't that all compelling, it still gives the game lift. Spiderman is much more longer than the first, but you'll most likley zip through it, because it's so addicting. The fact that you can do everything Spiderman can, is something no other superhero game has accomplished. This is why people find it so much fun, and any game that's fun is always the best. As for the annoying camera angles that seem to plague most games, it's nothing serious. You don't really notice anything wrong untill your in a small room fighting tons of enemys. Of course your hardly ever in small rooms, because you'll be web-slinging outside most of the game. The learning level in this game is somewhat in the middle. Combat moves can be rather difficult to remember, because there's alot of them. Believe me, you'll be wanting to use every single one to get huge amounts of points at the end of each level. Another thing to mention is the new areial combat stages. This is the highlight of the game. It's simply astounding to fight in the air, swinging through the city, doding pumpkin bombs, jumping on the green goblins flyer and pounding his ugly face in. It's something no one will forget after you beat the game. There's nothing like it. Your adrenaline will be surging throught the roof while fighting in the air. It basically plays a huge role too, considering that you'll be doing it plenty of times throughout the levels. Activision knew what they were doing when including this new addition. So as you can see, Spiderman proves to shine the brightest in this category, and that's always a good thing.

Sound

Sound is great. They had the people who did the movie come and do the game and it turned out great. When you are beating up the thugs it sounds especially good because....it sounds like they're getting beat up! The music is at first annoying but really I don't notice it after about the first two levels. However, I did notice that the music will change so it is not so repetetive you can't stand it.

Gameplay

The gameplay is amazing. You can fight thugs or swing from building to building, it doesn't matter. You can do whatever you want to and it is so much fun. I have also seen that you can play as the Green Goblin or as Shocker. It is great. I'm not that far but what I have played is amazing. Beating up the thugs is easy unless they have guns. You can do all the classic Spidey moves like web-slinging, swinging, and tying people up with web. In fact, you can tie people up with web, then beat the crap out of em. Also there are different combinations of moves that you acquire during the game which just adds to the fun.

Sound

The soud effects are good but the music can get kinda irritating at tight sticky moments in the game...so I basically put the music down to a minimal. The voice acting is top-notch. You could even hear Spider-Man's ever familiar "Ugggh!!" when he swings about the city or when battling thugs....awesome. If you really want a kick...go to the cheat mode and try to enter the DODGETHIS and that puts you into the Matrix attack mode...sweeeeeeet!

Gameplay

Gameplay is pretty good...I'm still having a bit of a hard time with all the combat and swinging skills...but this simply adds depth to the game. Some will find the learning curve to take at least a good 2 hours of straight gameplay to get a feel for the controls. But what's good at this is that the game allows you to choose which control feature is best for you. The oonly sad part is the camera could really get you dizzy sometimes, but that's basically it.

Summary

Spider-Man on PS2 has a lot to live up to. Not only does it have to live up to the movie of the same name (which is looking AWESOME), but it also has to live up to the excellent Spider-Man games that have appeared on PSone. Being a huge fan of the ol' web-head for years, I was very anxious to play this latest installment of the game. Well, I am happy to report that the game has exceeded my expectations, and is easily one of the top five games currently available on the PS2 now, in my opinion.

Only one word can really be used to describe the gameplay in Spider-Man PS2: FUN. You could have hours of enjoyment just swinging around the city with the much-improved web swinging controls. Beating up the thugs and super-villians is even more fun than before, since Spidey can now pick up Gold spider icons, which allow him to learn new combos to use in combat. There is also a "camera lock" mode that focuses the camera on a thug or enemy, keeping them in your view (this reminds me a lot of the excellent "Z-targeting" system in Zelda 64). The levels are also nicely designed and well thought-out, and the game does provide a decent challenge. There is also a nice assortment of secrets/cheats for you to unlock, encouraging you to replay the levels over again (you'll want to replay them anyway, since it is so fun). There is also an excellent training mode, for those who are new to the game.

The biggest gameplay addition, is the addition of air combat. You are now able to fight villians from high above the city streets, while swinging from your web-line. This is very easy to do, and it provides a real adrenaline rush.

My only complaint is with the camera. It tends to get confused, especially in small rooms or other tight spaces. It can be easily adjusted with the right analog stick, but that should not be a scapegoat for the problem. Besides, how can you worry about adjusting the camera with five thugs pounding on you?

All in all though, Spider-Man is easily one of the best (and most fun) gameplay experiences yet on the PS2.

Sound

The voices are superb. I just wish Spidey would stop saying goons are ugly before beating them up. The bad guys tend to repeat the same lines as well. However, once again, the sound is great.

Gameplay

The camera is extremely aggravating at times. Not so much when you are doing you thing on the buildings but when your are, let's say in the warehouse. The camera control is herky jerky, but I am hoping to allievate this problem as I get better at the game. This game is tough, even on the easy level. Especially, when you have to fight a gang of hoodlums. The best advice is to search the rooms for power ups before you start to regulate. Spidey's movement can be too fast at times. However, he moves as smooth as de nooch since he can do almost anything. This reason alone is why I am able to deal with that awful camera.

Summary

Hail to Treyarch and Activision! Finally, a videogame that does justice to one of the greatest comic book heroes of all time! The PS1 games were definitely good, but this newest incarnation of Spidey is a quantum leap forward in gameplay, graphics, playability and sound. I was grinning from ear to ear as I embarked on the Training missions and got my first glimpse of the character model and the huge environments! It is a beautifully constructed game with amazing buildings, smooth aanimations, a great framerate, and a ton of new features to enhance the experience. Spidey never looked so good. They obviously patterned him after the character in the new movie, and as Peter Parker, he bears distinct resemblance to Toby Maguire, the actor from the flick. The Green Goblin (Harry Osborne), the featured villain in the movie and the game, also looks disturbingly like Willem Dafoe. Both lead actors recorded dialogue for the game, which is a terrific bonus. Toby Maguire seems nearly perfect as Spidey. All the wise-cracking that makes Spidey so cool and real is present in the game. He can be in the midst of a titanic struggle with Scorpion, and be firing off one-liners and sarcasm while dodging bolts of energy! Too funny!! If you like Spider Man even a little, go get this game. At least run out and rent it. It is fun, pretty to look at, and a challenging romp. It's timing (released a few weeks before the movie debuts) is also perfect genius. How much money do YOU think this franchise will rake in over the next several years? All I know is, I wish I had 10% of it!

Sound

Sound is very good. All the web-related sounds are great, as are the voices throughout the game. Soemtimes the volume of one sound seems too loud as related to another, but talk about nit-picking!! The music is very appropriate for a movie-based game, and I am guessing it hints at music we'll hear in the film. I really like the fact that Toby Mcguire and Willem Dafoe recorded voice work for the game. Very cool, indeed. There is nothing to complain about, so I guess it's time to get back to web-slingin'!!! Enjoy- it's a fun ride!!!!

Gameplay

Excellent framerate and sharp visuals enhance a game design which is nearly flawless. The controls (very customizeable) are easy to grasp, and there are so many moves (too many to list here) that Spidey can master, the game seems fresh and exciting all the time. For example, there are many different means of taking crooks out of action. You can use stealth and remain glued to the ceiling, firing blasts of webbing until foes are defeated completely. Or, you can bind an enemy with a lasso of web, pinning his arms to his side, then beat the tar outta him! or, you can pick up objects, like exploding barrels, and devastate an opponent that way!! Or, you can simply brawl, going bare-knuckle, or using web fists, or many other web-related techniques. In other words, although it is a linear, mission based game, there is ample opportunity to be creative..to play it YOUR way. More games are getting hip to this as a popular device, and Spider Man does it very well.
The aerial combat is new to gaming, and it is a brilliant addition. Spider Man can swing from webs, high above the city streets, and still deliver puches, kicks, and shoot webbing. This is essential technique to master, especially when confronting Vulture (the old goat!). It is challenging at first, but once you master the ability to cut web, turn and change direction (on a dime), you will be a menace in the skies!! Aerial combat adds a whole new dimension, and also adds to the game's replayability. The Training Missions in this game are very valuable, beautifully thought out, and you are guided through them by some funny commentary (a llittle corny, but it adds to the experience nonetheless). The fluid animations of all the characters, and the detailed environments make playing this game a joy. Now, there can be some frustrations with the camera at times, but it is almost understandable, due to the amazing maneuverability of your friendly neighborhood...(awww, you know who). The degree of difficulty and the control scheme can be adjusted, making this a game that almost any gamer (regardless of age and ability) can pick up and play. One last thing- the game features the Green Goblin, but there are also battles with such veteran baddies as The Shocker, Vulture, and more. It is a great day for Spidey-philes everywhere! Go get your copy, before they sell out!!!
