Tom Clancys Rainbow Six for Dreamcast Videos >>
Summary Simply Put, The Dreamcast version of Rainbow six is great. Sure, it has no multiplayer, but it has a great single player aspect. I have never played this game for any other system but Dreamcast (well except for the PC demo which was very short), so I am a new-commer to the R6 series and I love it! Overall, its a great game and anybody looking for a FPS on the DC that involves some strategy (like sniping from a distance), GET THIS GAME. Dont wait for Quake 3 or Half-Life for the DC when you can get R6 right now!Sound The sound is nothing too spectacular in this game. The gunshots sound nice, and environmental effects are cool. It doesnt really have background music while you are playing which is a good thing because it adds to the effect that you are really a special forces member sneaking into a building submerged in Terrorists.Gameplay First, it will load up a PLANNING SESSION. I am not too big of a fan on planning out my missions (you could say i am lazy i guess..) so I just skip right on through the planning session and move on the the ACTION mode in the game. From what i have attempted to do with the Planning Session was pretty cool, I could do ALOT of stuff! For me, I just let the game plan out the missions for me, and then i PLAY it strategically. The Already made plan that it has for me seems to work well everytime! The gameplay is really deep and very, very cool.Would you like to Comment? My store has started calling this game Rainbow Sux....or Rainblow Six or....well, you get the idea. The worst aspect of the game? The control. Zero out of 5. One of the cool things about this game on the PC was the ability to map out the plethora of commands on a 104 key keyboard. That works with a keyboard. That doesn't work with a gamepad. Sound 2 out of 5. Fair. Serviceable. Mediocre.Gameplay 2 out of 5. Missions are good and the planning stages are interesting (as are the stories behind the scenarios). But we've seen this all before. Zero points for creativity. Note to developers: delay a game all you want IF you're not just going to port an already existing game.Would you like to Comment? Summary All said Rainbow6 for Dreamcast is bangin'!!! It takes a little getting used to at first especially in the control since all the keyboard/mouse functions of the Pc had to be crammed into the DC control pad but once you play through a couple of missions they become instinctive. Keep in mind though this is not Golden eye and if you think you are just going to run through blasting away think again!! this game is strategic/action at its best!! pick it up!Sound The sound is excellent as all the sounds of gunplay are here from the burst of a semiautomatic rifle to the explosion of a grenade. And need i mention that the agonized screems of your teamates as they come underfire are here too. walie talkie chatter amongst teamates is in here as you will here your teamates call for back up or man down if a teamate is killed. The sound here seeks to emerse you even more into the world of R6 AMD SUCCEDS WONDERFULLY!!Gameplay The gameplay on this game is what really stands out! from the beginning of the mission you have total control of the R6 team from their movements and activities, the weapons and equipment and even uniforms and of course you chose which team members go on the mission or just jump in on the default plan and dive in either way you will be okay! and in case you need to polish up on your skills their is a training mode to get into with multiple missions to get used to the control scheme! What I like is how the game seeks to emerse you in Reality, for example, when you seek to enter a door you gotta either pick the Lock which takes several seconds or for a quicker breach shotgun the door now thats real!!! and as always your missions involve rescuing hostages or taking out terriorist and the such trust me its very addictive palnning out a mission only to have it succed(you can save succesfull missions!)what a feeling! THE ONLY THING IS THAT THIS GAME TAKES A LOT OF TIME ESPECIALLY IN THE PLANNING PHASE! IT DIDN'T BOTHER ME BUT.......Would you like to Comment? Summary Poor graphics and a difficult control scheme detract from an otherwise great game.Sound The sound is rather basic and somewhat repetitive. This game has none of the neat, stereo sound effects that many new Dreamcast titles have. The sound effects could be used to give the player additional information in the game, such as the general location of an advisary. It's too bad they missed this great opportunity to enhance the game.Gameplay The gameplay is excellent. This isn't just a run-around-and-shoot game. You've got to plan each assault carefully, and proceed slowly through it. Move too quickly at the wrong time, and you could end up dead. This mix of planning and action gives R6 a lot of replay value and makes it an interesting game. The controls can take a while to master though; initially, the game isn't nearly as fun because of this. If you can stick with it through this learning curve, it can be a blast.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Well, the control sucks and the loading times are really bad but other than that it's a good game. The graphics look better than the PC version and the inclusion of Eagle Watch (the expansion pack) was pretty neat. It's a good game, but I'm not sure if it was worth the wait. Sound There was sound? Actually the sound is pretty good. The music has that whole "The Rock" feel to it and the guns make realistic noises.Gameplay The gameplay has quite sloppy control and the AI doesn't appear to have been improved from the PC version. How is one supposed to AIM, Walk and shoot at a bad guy on a DC controller? It would be alright on a PC keyboard but this is console gaming! The 2-4 player modes are very neat. Especially considering you can take on the single player missions with your friends. Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary It's a welcome addition to the Dreamcast library, but not without some real flaws. On the plus side, it's nice to have to put some thought into a game, and it's a lot of fun to try various ways to complete a mission. But, graphics are the worst yet for the Dreamcast, and load times are excruciatingly long. Also, the game can crash, and sometimes the A.I. leaves a lot to be desired.Sound Sound is fine. The sound effects are good, and the music is sparse, but that's no problem.Gameplay First of all, I never played the PC version. As for the Dreamcast gameplay, keep the 'manual' handy for a while; you're going to need it to keep track of the controls. Gameplay is cool, except that sometimes it doesn't work. I've had my teams split up, I've had members get stuck climbing a trellis, etc. You can only control the leader of each team, which can be a big drawback. For the most part, though, the game is great. You'll be able to do a lot of experimenting with your mission plans, too, which is kewl. I wish there was some way to just watch what another team was doing while controlling the other.Would you like to Comment? Summary Finally it has arrived. I have been waiting since august 9th for it to come in. Overall I enjoy the game although the control is hard to get used to. Once you get the hang of it the game is a blast.I would recomend this game to anyone that enjoyed the PC version.Sound The only time you here sound is when one of your team members diesGameplay The gameplay is fantastic. I enjoyed all of the missions including the training missions. The missions were not as challenging as I expected. There should have been more missions added. Would you like to Comment? Summary The game is excellent. However, I can see how it would be very frustrating and boring to someone into shoot-em-ups. At first, learning the controls is terrible. I didn't know what "Change ROE" meant. I also didn't understand "Give Alpha Code" and so on. Some of the aspects of the game you must learn yourself. I still don't know what an eagle watch mission is. But once I got the hang of everything, the challenge of the game was so perfect that I still had fun when I lost. That way I could redirect my plan. I suggest it to anyone who loves strategy games.Sound I with the sounds of weapons were more versatile. There aren't many different sounds for the automatics. There are no footsteps or screams of death. However, I still feel immersed in the environment by ambient noise.Gameplay The tangos are aggravating. If you peak from the side of a wall in the dark 150 feet away, they might shoot you. And death is hard to avoid if you get hit. However, the caution you must take when playing due to fear of dying is awesome. You really feel like your out on the prowl. The planning phase can be fun, but only if you have experience with the mission. I find that if I plan on the map without playing the mission before, my plan is rather poor. But after that it's fun.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Aside from the obvious, Rainbox Six for Dreamcast is pretty impressive. It has a great combination of action, tactical warfare and the kind of excitment that helped make RE:CV so good. Imagine peeking out of a window for a quick glance at the outer terrain and BLAM! glass shatters, red flash, you're dead. And that's just training! A lot of fun for any serious gamer looking for strategy and action.Sound If you've been lucky enough to play DOA2, RE:CV, or even Crazy taxi then you know exactly what not to expect. The sound effects fit where they must but thats about where it ends. Although the intro music is a little eery and does create a good effect for what lies ahead.Gameplay The gameplay takes some getting used to but overall it adds to the experience. The controls alone took about an hour of getting used to. And then there are the in-game options such as switching guns and sending go codes to the other teams. But considering it's a pc port that used the typical FPS layout they did a good job in this department.Would you like to Comment? This is what I've been looking for in terms of a simulation. There are two major downfalls in this game however. Wow! I had to wait forever it seems to load up the planning phase and the tools that I use to plan my mission. Then I had to wait for the game to load the mission up. Hmmm! This is very noticeable especially considering that I have played the N64 version (which originally got me into it) and there was no load time due to a cartridge based system. However, if you aren't a patient gamer with a lot of flexibility look the other way on this game. But if you like to feel like you are in the game....go right ahead and make this purchase. The control is something that I loved after hours of practice. Never before have I seen such a control interface that gives me so much control on a console effort. The only thing that I can remember that came close is NBA LIVE 99 on PSX. Another downfall-hey what happened to the multiplayer experience. The DC has 4 joystick ports.....at least put 2 of them to use. The N64 version had 2 players....why didn't they include this in the DC version. Overall great game with a great idea.Sound Oh my goodness! If you put this game on a Dolby prologic system you will get a pretty good feeling of realism. The sound on this game is what made me feel as if this game was all the more real. The sound of enemies losing life and your partners radioing for back up is absolutely amazing. However, the one down point I see (that really isn't a big deal) is that when I'm right next to someone, does it sound like they are talking to me through their radio. This kind of erked me but after a while it was definitely overcame. Without over coming this bridge I would have drowned and gave the sound a sorry score. It doesn't erk me that much any more.Gameplay After tackling the, what seems to be limitless control, the gameplay was absolutely excellent. Never before have I had this much control over a game before. This is what I live for "control" If only they had some stealth like options like scaling the wall and sneaking up behind someone and breaking their neck a'la MGS.Would you like to Comment? Yea yea, people bash the gameplay and the control, but ounce you get it down, its fire at the enemies noot sac for crying out loud!Sound Agian, Agian. What else can I tell you but, freakin awesome! The sound coming off your weaponry is amazing, just buy the damn game, you know its calling your name.....Gameplay The Gameplay is great, control isnt the best, but agian, if you get it down, its awesome. The fact you you have to plan every single freakin mission does get quite a hassel towards the last few missions, but when you look back on it, you think its cool you took the time to do such a thing. You have a nice, sweet ars crack team to do your job. You can pick out of the bunch, usually around 6-7 agents per mission. Then you assemble them with whatever weaponry you feel. And after that, your on your own (well almost) to take out whatever you feel, terrorists in this case.Would you like to Comment? If strategy is your cup of tea, this game is for you. R6 allows you to plan every detail of your attack, from what outfit your team wears, to when and how they attack. Plan your assault, then hop into the middle of the action.Sound The sound is definitely a strong point. Team members keep you updated via radio, grenades make ear-splitting explosions, and outdoor ambient noises are very realistic as well. Music comes and goes, but what's there is usually good. My only complaint is that I think the guns should be louder. When you and your team bust into a room and take down enemies in a hail of bullets, it should be busting your eardrums.Gameplay Rainbow Six is composed of equal parts planning and action. First you choose your equipment, weapons, and teams, then you plan your attack. You can tell each squad to perform an action such as tossing a grenade in a room when you give the order. Although most missions have you rescuing hostages, some require you to sneak into buildings undetected to bug phones, and others just have you wiping out all the tangos (terrorists) who cross your path. The control scheme can take some getting used to, as there are many functions that require multiple buttons. Once you get used to it though, it's a breeze. Unfortunately, those who like Quake-style frag-fests may be a little disappointed here, due to the level of realism. One or two shots is all that is needed to put you and your team members down for the count. Also some may find the planning phase tedious. But the level of detail in planning can be fun, especially when your plan is successful. All in all, it boils down to a matter of personal taste, and I personally recommend a rental before purchase. There is a lot to do though, with 27 training missions, 16 campaign missions, and 6 Eagle Watch missions.Would you like to Comment? Summary R6 delivers the action, realism and immersion into Tom Clancy's world of international terrorism. R6 is a true strategy/action game that combines form with its core of function to make an addictive covert mission based game. How can you go wrong with a completely customizable elite anti-terrorist squad? Sound Sound and music are also solid. Weapons are realistic in tone but should sound louder-- an H&K machine gun on full auto should create quite a ruckus. As a team leader you need to pay attention to on-screen action and members. R6 incorporates digitized team status reporting -- a feature that further immerses you in Clancy's world. Moreover, these voices hold the function of allowing you to pay more attention to the action in the game rather than reading about what Delta squad is doing. Background music is consistent with game style.Gameplay Gameplay is tough. You can't just pick up the controller and cap some tangoes. . .In order to port R6 from the PC, the game requires a fair amount of dilligence and practice to get use to numerous controls. But once you master the learning curve, you have more control than you could possibly have known you needed. Stick with it . . you'll be glad you didWould you like to Comment? Summary This game for Dreamcast, i think is pretty bad. The controls will take a while to get used to if you play the PC version. The graphics suck for a dreamcast game. They should of really polished this game up.Sound sound is also pretty bad. The guns sound dull, and the peoples voices arent to well either.Gameplay The gameplay in this game is probably the strongest up for the dreamcast version. It is basically the same as the PC cousin.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary This is an excellent game with alot of action. There are tons of missions, that vary alot in objectives. It never seemes like your doing the same missions over and over again. tha only down side is the very long load times, however once loaded its worth the wait. Buy it, or at least rent it you wont be dissapointed. Sound This is a bit tricky because the music of the game is comes on suddenly and for no reason, but the sound is so good it sounds real and there are more sounds then the pc version has.Gameplay Gameplay can be a chore at times, because of the very steep learning curve on the controls and making your own plans. Once you get these down the game itself is much more fun. This game seems so real at times you can't tell the diference between it and the real world. You never lose the feeling of being on a real team of counter terrorist.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary The Dreamcast Version of Rainbow Six is a good port of the PC version. That is the extent of it, there are not many new missions (some Eagle Watch) and it is missing some critical elements (multiplayer, online play, keyboard support), but the game is an great realistic simulation.Sound The sound is perfect of a "midnight, covert operation" tmostphere. There are some backround noises, but usually only gunshots and yells can be heard.Gameplay The gameplay is wonderful. The atmosphere of every level is very in depth. The enemy terrrorists are intelligent when they do spot you and the levels are just hard enough to send you back a few times if "Chavez" dies. The controls on the Dreamcast pad will frustrate new players, but if you keep at it for at least 2 hours straight, the controls will become second nature. After mastering all the weapons, views, and team commands, I realized that the controls couldn't have been configured any other way. There are plenty of missions to do (20 in all), so it will take the average person about 2 weeks to complete on Training level.Would you like to Comment? Summary Finally, having never played Rainbow 6 on any other platform, I got my chance to play the DC version of this counter-terrorisom simulation. I was really looking forward to this game, as I find the idea of having to use stealth and smarts over raw firepower very appealing. The fact that the game featured a good deal or realism and a lot of battle planning, made it all the better. This isn't the type of game that will just blow you away and say 'this game is great.' The initally difficult controls, slow load times, lack of multiplayer or online play, will drive some off. As will the relatively slower pace of the game when compared to titles like MDK 2. In addition, the manual is pretty weak, so you'll need to read an FAQ off the web to pick up all the nice intracies of this game. But for those who enjoy some strategy and a little suspense as they creep around each corner, they will enjoy this game tremendously. I consider this game one of my two favorites on the DC, but only because it is my type of game. It is not an all-around superb game, and so my high rating is a definite reflection of personal taste.Sound Nothing too special, nothing horrible either. Mainly a lot of gunfire & explosions or chatter from other groups telling you when they are in position, or if a group member got smoked. There's some music that sets a serious/suspenseful mood, and some ominous tones when one of yours gets killed, but it's not continous or very intrusive. Not the kind of game that you just have to plug into the stereo as with SC or House of the Dead.Gameplay This is where the game really shines. There is an extensive amount of customization and control when it comes to setting and executing your battle plan. First, you select the soldiers you want and how to group them, what uniforms to wear, and the weapons & equipment each will carry. Next, you go to the planning map where you set up what you want each group to do. Instructions range from movement, breaching doors, grenading rooms, escorting hostages, and so forth. Very cool stuff, though it requires some thought as well as patience if you want to set up an elaborate plan. Not for those looking for a quick bloodfest. Finally, it's time to go to battle and execute your scheme. The controls are a bit difficult and overwhelming at first, but I was able to quickly pick up the most necessary commands that allowed me to finish the training missions and first few regular missions with relative ease. I was shooting, reloading, flashbanging, and giving go-codes without hesitation within a couple hours. The realism and tightness of gameplay is pretty good---if you walk into an enemy's line of sight they will see you, they don't miss their shots habitually (like in the movies), and one well placed shot will pierce armor and take you down. Leaving you to go back to the drawing board when your team gets whacked---again, not a game for the impatient. So you must be stealthy and smart, not just go in blasting away. As far as drawsbacks, there are a few. Enemies aren't too alarmed when they find one of their brethren with a bullet through their head. Sometimes, one of your team members gets stuck or blocks your way. And it's only possible to take command of a group's leader and not the subordinates. There are other problems, but these are the most frustrating for me. Overall, the gameplay is strong in its realism and customiztion, and the main appeal of this game. Would you like to Comment?
