Summary I think both old school gamers and starwars fan will enjoy this game, i love it!I found that quite a few game review sites tore this game apart, no one gave it a decent rating it seemed, I expected it to be another starwars game flop, but man, it really surprised me. This is what I liked about the game. Can play with friends, the regular game and the battle mode, you also earn new battle mode characters are you progress in the game. It has a difficulty setting. You can replay levels you complete. You earn combo moves. You can build experiance with each of the different characters in the game. Each character has different force powers, and speed/strength attributes. Most of the game is left to right arcade fighting, but you can still move freely around the levels. You get to drive a tank with three different types of weapons. and on and on, like I said, I love this game! The only downside to this game is that there is the occasional glitch, jumping down is hard when you cant se where to jump, some force powers are useless, and Darth Maul is very hard to beat at the end of the game. Sound Sound is awsome, starwars ep. 1 music right at the beggining, your pumped even before you start the game. Music is fast and gives a sence of urgency to get where your going fast. You have to love the light saber sound, especially when you deflect a laser back at an enemy. The only sound that might annoy you after a while is the powerup Yoda sound, but, other than that, the game has some of the best sounds Ive heard in a Dreamcast game. Gameplay Easy game to play, you have great fun deflecting lasers back at driods and experimenting with the different combos. You can double jump which is nice when your about to fall off a cliff. There is also a training mode if you find the game hard to grasp at first.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. It's al too complicated and Jedi power battles are missing the right tempo and action to ever be an arcade game. Then many of you think: oh, so this is more rpg like. NO!!! It's something in between arcade and simulation. (or RPG) And thats whats make the game dull. Yes sir, dull is the word. Although it's quite a blast in 2 player mode. You should only buy this game if your looking for some 2 player action. Because thats what I did, and im satisfied. Sound Sound is, as always in star wars games, perfect. Music is absolutley the best, I cant really say more than that.I recomend that you buy it only if it's cheap and you have a fighting crazy friend. Gameplay The gameplay makes the game, and here it's not that great. Imagine Fighting force in very slow tempo. But not the cool slow-motion tempo, just too slow. If you try to run up to a battle droid and smash him with your light saber, your dead before you got there. Because the droid fires very fast and you can only block the shoot while you are standing still. Thats the biggest problem in Jedi power battles. You must use the "go a little bit forward then play coward with saber blocking. DULL!Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Wonderful job, LucasArts, you put together a wonderful game that i loved and hated at the same time. Congratulations on a job well done.Sound The sound is great. John Williams' orchestrial style goes hand in hand with the perfect lightsaber-slashing sounds.Very Nice. Gameplay A very fun game to play (especially the tank in level 3, very clever) although Coruscant was rather long and boring. The bosses were fun to destroy. The fact that you train each Jedi with the points you earn, getting level-ups and learrning new moves and force techniqes give it an RPG feel, but the fact that you have to deflect blaster fire and cleve droids makes it an action game. With a choice of 5 Jedi (Mace Windu, Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Adi Gallia, and Plo Koon) and needing to train all of them give Power Battles a high replay value. Would you like to Comment? Summary This game ROCKS!!! This is without a doubt the best Star Wars game ever made. The picture quality is PERFECT. The Sound seems like it was takin right from the movie itself. The Gameplay is GREAT (especially the 2-player co-op mode which always helps). If you are a Star Wars fan then I suggest you get this one, even if you have never really gotten into video games.Sound The Sound is easily the greatest part of all the Star Wars games, but this is the one that really shines above all the others. The sound contained in this game is EXACTLY what it is in the movie. The light saber sounds are PERFECT. The voices are perfect and the extra little explosions and other sounds are just as good. I just wish I could give the sound a 10 out of 5.Gameplay The Gameplay is awsome. The thing I feel that what has been missing from a lot of games is a co-op mode with 2 or more people and this game includes a 2-player co-op mode. The 1-player mode is plenty of fun by itself but if you know any friends that have even heard of Star Wars then you better invite them over and tell them to bring a pack of clothes beacause you will be HOOKED on this game for a long time. The 2-player co-op mode is by far the funnest because it always helps to have a friend. The way the Jedi use the light sabers is so fluent. Another great aspect of the game is reflecting all those laser blasts back at the Battle Droids who fill almost every level in the game ( You have to hit the Left Trigger button on the side of the controller a split second before the blast hits you or 1 of 2 things happens, 1 your shot right in the chest by a laser blast, or 2 the blast goes flying off in some other direction.). Jumping is probably the hardest part of this game (or most annoying) but its not as bad as the PS version. Jumping has been the main complaint about this game but in the DC version they added a Training mode so you can brush up on the basic skills you use throughout the game.Would you like to Comment? Review Date 04/28/2001 Overall Rating ![]() 2 of 5 Rate this review? Summary There are some movies that just shouldn't be made into games-Star Wars Episode I is one of them. In asorry attempt to expand the Playstation Star Wars library, LucasArts pelted out this hunk of swill. I hated every minute of some levels. I hate everything in it, and I hope that you will be smart enough to avoid it. Avoid this title at all costs.Sound John Williams' score for this crappy prequal wasn't exactly thrilling, yet it's still executed well in Jedi Power Battles. The sound effects are repetitious, yet acceptable. Voice-overs are horribly poor.Gameplay Playing as one of five of the lame so-called Jedi Knights from Star Wars: Episode I: The "rip-off" Phantom Menace, you hack-n-slash through ten repetitively boring levels. The enemies range from millions of droids, Tusken Raiders, Jawas, thugs, and even poisonous plants, but still, the stale gameplay ruins the whole experience. The controls are unresponsive, and that just stinks when it comes to a game like this, which includes way too much platform scaling.Would you like to Comment? Rating Reviewed By Jeff Jeff LayneFrom Galesburg, MI, US Review Date 03/10/2001 Overall Rating ![]() 1 of 5 Rate this review? Summary After reading all the favorable reviews listed above, I decided to give this game a try. I rented it at the local video store. Boy that was a waste of $3. This game was terrible. It was not up to Dreamcast standards at all. I felt like I was playing a playstation game; a rather poor excuse for a Playstation game at that.Another thing that I found disturbing was that you can't play as Darth Maul in this game. The addition of the battle mode was a nice improvement from the PS version of the game. But, the lack of being able to play as the most exciting and interesting character (Darth Maul) shoots this game right in the foot. It would have been so simple to add him as a selectable character for the Battle mode. I am a Star Wars fan, but I don't feel the need to own or buy every piece of Star Wars crap that gets put on the market. The fact that this game has many of the characters from Episode 1 may be enough to entertain some of the die hard Star Wars fans out there. For me, though, I need some decent Graphics and Game play. This game I'm afraid doesn't even come close. Take my advice, unless you are a die hard Star Wars junky that wants every piece of SW merchandise available, save you money and put it towards a decent game like Code Veronica or Soul Calibur. Sound The sound was average at best.Gameplay Another thing that bothers me about this game is the game play sucks. It feels like you playing Golden Axe on the Sega Genesis. Which I admit was an excellent game at the time, but after 10 years, my expectations are a little higher now.Would you like to Comment? I found it lots of fun to go around beating droids with lightsabers. The game takes you to many places from the movie and music keeps you goin. Some of the stages do tend to be long and can get boring after awhlile. The VS. MODE was ok, but i thought it was a little unorganized. One really cool thing is you can beat stages with a friend playing right beside you. I think overall it's a must have, especially for Star Wars fans.Sound Sound was very good. Realistic lightsaber sounds from the movie and the soundtrack from the movie too. I thought the music was probably one of the coolest things in the game.Gameplay The gameplay i thought was very good. Move your characters around with the analog stick, hit with your lightsaber by a simple touch of any button. The combos can be pretty neat too! Jedi Power Battles isnt just lightsabers, there are a few stages where you travel using some kind of vehicle, which was cool because many were from the movie. Gameplay couldn't get better!Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. I myself am what you would call I die hard fan of the Star Wars Universe, and yes I do sleep on my Star Wars covers still. Really who did not have them whem they were children. I also have in my pocesstion over one hundred Star Wars action figures. This is why the Playstion version of this game brought me great disappointment in the graphical area and the control area. The game could have been so great but they went and screwed it up. Now it seems as if Lucas Arts has gone back and changed every aspect of this game. The greatest part of this game was definately as one would expect the final battle with Darth Maul.Sound The sound in this game is as you would expect from any Star Wars game out there. People the Star wars soundtracks are excelent and if you are an avid fan of Star Wars you should obviously own them all. Let's put it this way music in a game can either make it or break it. The sound track is easy to see as making the game rather than breaking it.Gameplay The gameplay of this game is almost limitless. I just can't get enough of this great title, and let me tell you many a bad grade have I gotten in the last month on account of this marvelouse game. The extra characters that are attained keeps the gamer playing again, and, agian, and agian. At this moment I have beten the game with every character on easy and jedi mode. I am now working on getting the extra levels and yes the ultimate saber.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I think this game is a blast! i got it for my birthday and could not stop playing it. the graphics are awesome and controls easy to learn. If you like star wars or even just saw the movies you should buy or at least rent this game.Sound The sound is unblevable when you swing the lightsaber it sounds exactly like the movie also when you reflect lasers.Gameplay The gameplay is great controls are easy and you can play co-op missons or single player. the vs mode is great b/c the more leavels you beat the more caracters you get. the motions are life like and you can reflect lasers back at battle droids by using moves like block and force power is alo and advantage you can useWould you like to Comment? Summary When I read about this game in some of the video game mags I was under the impression that this game would be mediocre at best so I was in no hurry to purchase it. I think the mags gave it 3 out of 5 stars and complained about the graphics clipping and how difficult it was to jump and land where you want to. Well, when I found it at Half.com for under $20 I decided to give it a shot since I have grown up a Star Wars fan. This game is what a video game should be - Fun. There is nothing sweeter than reflecting a Battle Droid's lasers back at him. (You have to push block a split second before the laser hits you). Some of the stages are a little repetitive but over-all the game is a "blast" :). If Episode I did not turn you completely off to the Star Wars universe, than you have to give this game a shot.Sound The laser and lightsaber sounds are dead-on. The music is also superb.Gameplay The jumping can get a little difficult at times (like the 9th and 10th stage) but everyone needs a challenge once and a while. It has a few problems (like jumping and then dying for no apparent reason) but what game doesn't. Even the two-player battle mode is fun for a while.Would you like to Comment? Also, make sure you know how to use your lightsaber to block, it's important. Start the game as character Obi-Wan or Qui-Gon, they're the best and the easiest. Overall the game is pretty easy.Sound Sound is PERFECT. Classic star wars music and lightsabers sound effects awesome.Gameplay Gameplay is great. Sometimes the camera angle can get far away but it is needed sometimes to see your surroundings. Some of the characters you play as are a little slow getting their moves off, but most have quick good jabs. It also seems someone has taken away the lightsabers power, having to take sometimes 4 to 5 hits on a droid or being. Also, I don't remember droids having the ability to block the lightsaber.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary First let me say that I am a big Star Wars fan. Now that doesn't mean I will go out and buy every Star Wars video game ever made. I am still a video game fan and the game better be good for me to spend money on it and this game is fantastic. I couldn't put this game down. This game makes you feel like you are taking part in the movie. The levels that you fight through are well done and stay true to the Stars Wars theme. I have only fought through 2 of them and I had a great time fighting through them as Obi-Wan. You can also chose from 4 other Jedi-knights with each one of them bringing their different talents to the game. If you are not ready to play through the levels than there is training mode where you can practice being a Jedi or you can go into Vs. mode and fight another Jedi Knight to practice your light sabre fighting abilities. Too bad you can't fight as Darth Maul though. The object of each level is to fight through the droids, robots, etc and reach the end where you will fight a boss to get to the next level. You have only your sabre to chop them up and you can also reflect the laser blasts back at the droids, just like the movie! Real intense fighting action!Sound Without a doubt, this is where the game shines. If I could give this a higher score than a 5, I would. Everything sound from the movie is here. The sound of your light sabre as you strike an opponent. The sounds of laser blasts being shot you. The soundtrack of the movie in the background. This is where this game shines. it recreates the whole Star Wars mood for you hardcores out there. PERFECT!Gameplay The gameplay is intense. With droids caoming at you at all times you will need your Jedi reflexes to block their lasers and chop them up into little droid pieces. You can also do combos too. There are power-ups,checkpoints,items and healing items along the way to help you in your quest to get to the ultimate level and fight Darth Maul. You have the force at your disposal also to rid yourself of your foes also. Using of the force at the right time get rid of pesky enemies if you find yourself in a nasty fight by smashing them into pieces. Of cousre you have acquire items along the way that will make the force stronger in you. The game play is intense! A MUST game for a Stars Wars fanatic and must for a videogame fan.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. It gets me jacked-up to play every single time.Gameplay Jumping is a fairly important part of this game, and it's seems to be more difficult than it needs to be. I find it somewhat annoying, but it's apparently not as bad as the PS1 version. The missions are fairly interesting, and the action is quite intense at times.Would you like to Comment? After 6 straight seasons in NFL2k1 I needed a break and I got this game and i'm hooked that I've forgotten all about NFL2k1, its that damn good. Buy this game, i guarantee you, you wont regret it.Sound No one cant complain about the sounds of any of the Star Wars games, even the games that sucked.John William's music are always masterpieces, the Duel of The Fates playing in the background and fighting Darth Maul is so cool. Every level has a cool bg music. The lightsaber sound is awesome. Star Wars: Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles has excellent sound effects and music. Gameplay This game has arcade roots, fast gameplay, and good controls unlike the PS version which sucked.Fighting Darth Maul is a blast, its just like the movie. Nothing that easy or too hard in this game. Replay value is good cuz you wanna unlock all the secret characters, I already unlocked Capt. Panaka (I think its his name), Darth Maul, and Ki-Adi-Mundi (Big headed guy). The only thing I found weird about this game is that Qui-gon is alive at the end, he died in the movie but not in the game, how come? Its not that bad but it sure is weird. Would you like to Comment? Lucasart really put there blood, sweet, and tears in this game. The tank is sweet but the only thing I complain about was how the princess (when resqued) tries to run faster than you when you are tring to excort her to her ship. Overall, there is no contest. DC Games Rule Playa.Sound The sound quaility is exactly like a DVD version of Star Wars Episode I. Identical to the Dolby Surround Sound. Awesome!!!!Gameplay I espeacally approve on the 4 character available and how each Jedi power capableities are unique. The co-player option and 1 player vs 2 player battle is mind boggling. Summary I have been disapointed by Star Wars games in the past and figured this was going to be the same because of the reviews the PS version got. Well, either the people that reviewed it were whiners or the peolpe at Lucasarts did some major work to fix the problems. I can't stop playing this game and it just keeps getting better.Sound The sounds must have been sampled right from the movies. The effects are all simply perfect. If you have seen any of the the Star Wars movies, you have heard the effects in the game already. The same goes for music. I could put the cd for the movie "Episode I" in the cd player and not tell the differance from the movie in the game. Its that good. Its games like this that make me glad I've spent so much on stereo equipment. Gameplay The major thing they (the reviewers)had problems with were the jumps. Well, with a little practice in the training mode, they are no problem for the most part. A few places get a little difficult but that's part of the challenge. (Quit whining and practice.)Once you get a few combos unlocked, fighting with the light saber is pretty fun but I really like the ability to deflect the enemy's blaster shots back at them. Again, it takes a little practice, but it gets easier as you build experiance points. The Jedi powers take a little getting used to. (Still not sure what a few of them do.) Its just a matter of figuring out the best places and ranges to use them. You also get to use a few vehicles. I particularly like the tank. Three differant weapons on it to use AND you can run them down. Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary This game is great. Star wars games always have excellent sound and this one is no exception, Great Sound.Gameplay Gameplay is great, its easy to learn. The action is intense and fast, it never gets boring. And playing 2 player co-op or 1-on-1, its a blast.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary One way or another companies sure know how to screw up star wars games. Aside from "Dash Rendar's" original adventure on the N64 and "Kyle Katarn's" playstation adapted computer game known as "Dark Forces", there hasn't been a singal consule video game worthy of the name "Star Wars."Sound As always an excellent score of music wasted on a piece of crap game. The usual brilliant orchestra pieces that always accompany Star Wars movies or video games are present here. Excellent work again but all for not.Gameplay basically you do the same damn thing you do in Phantom menace. Run around and kill things. Only there is no point. You don't get any special things or weapons or anything like that and the enemies couldn't killed if you if the tried. I died about 12 times on the first board and it was from falling of something or getting electricuted. So the gameplay sucks.Would you like to Comment?
