Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles for PlayStation 1 Videos >>
Summary This is a great game for Star Wars fans, especially those who like to swing around stuff while making lightsaber noises.Sound The sound was standard, I guess. Nothing that makes you sit up and take notice in either extreme. Remember, however that the music and sound effects of STAR WARS has been so ingrained into every single one of us, that sizzling blaster bolts, 'vrooshing' lightsabers and the drone of probe droids, all to the backdrop of John Williams music, is now culturally 'normal' Nothing about the sound was out of place. Everything sounded just like it should.Gameplay Fun game! With some huge exceptions. The controls are fine when you fight mano y mano, plus you have the very satisfying ability to deflect a blaster bolt back at a sniper. The gameplay falls short in the jumping parts of the game. It's not really the controls that can leave you cursing and crying foul, it's the vague and confusing 3D environment. One second you're jumping onto the center of the platform, the next. you've missed it and fell past the far edge. (to your eyes, you just fell through the floor) You can get through these parts, but only through trial and error, not intuitively. As a result, the jumping parts of the game add nothing to the gane except frustration. There are also a lot of little bugs throughout the game (falling through a solid ledge, inability to jump at certain spots) that detracts from the game's completeness. It seems that they rushed this out the door at the expense of thorough testing quality assurance.Would you like to Comment? It has Jar Jar... It has AWESOME sound effects... It has Jar Jar...Sound Best part of the game (sans playing as Samuel L. Jackson). Realistic (can I say that?) lightsaber and blaster sounds create an entirely emersive effect. The music is also wonderful, as it is John Williams' score directly taken from the movie.Gameplay If I could sum up the gameplay in one word it would be "buggy". Although you can't beat playing as two jedi, the physical detection in the game absolutely sucks. For example, in Courusant there are multiple jumps from one platform to another. "Not a problem" you might say, but wait until you try landing on a PERFECTLY FLAT surface only to fall through to your doom. Also, in many levels you must protect people and make it until the end. You have to save Queen Amidala, young Anikan, and guess who... Jar Jar. Now, if you or droids or any other creature tries to harm the Queen or Anikan, the person you are protecting will eventually die. If you or droids or any other creature tries to kill Jar Jar, he simply runs right through them! That's right, you CANNOT KILL JAR JAR BINKS! This is perhaps one of the biggest game flaws I have ever witnessed...Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Challenging is all i have to say. This game really rouses your real gaming skills to come out and you'll find yourself battling days at a time. There are between 50-100 enemies on a stage and beating them is easier said than done. There are ten levels, I know it doesn't sound like much but the challenge each one brings is tremendous. Plus they're are a lot of upgrades-(combos, extra life, and new force moves) so the games replay value is high. Even if you're not a hardcore Star Wars fan (i'm not)chances are you'll like this game. Just one word for Lucas Arts-MORE CONTROL!!Sound The sound in this game I particularly liked, but I think they're pretty much the same as the movie's.Gameplay The gamplay in this game is great, but i've seen better. One thing set this game apart from lots of others-two players. Playing this game with a friend is frustrating fun you can actually blame someone else for wasting your credits. Playing it alone is fun too, but only when battling two-player will this game really shine. Jumping is the only problem it's really messed up. To sum it all up if you're really good or like games like Fighting Force then this game is probably not for you.Would you like to Comment? Summary Not only did IGN say this game was garbage, but Gamespot also concluded the same. I have to say that I pretty much agree with these reviews.Sound Sound was the typical Star Wars sound found on all Lucas games. It was pretty decent, though nothing spectacular.Gameplay This is the worst part of the game. The characters are difficult to control and the annoying jumping is enough to throw this game out the window. Apparently they were trying to copy games like Final Fight, but alas didn't even come close.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Though, some games have terrible interface, bad graphics, etc... This was not one of them. The game excels at almost every area, the idiots over at IGN have no idea what they're talking about. This game is very well put together, the only bad part was the jumping.. But let's not let a small thing like that bring a good game down.Sound I can't say anything about the sound.. It was amazing. The sounds were all straight from the movie, and the soundtracks were, too. Even at the final battle, there was the exact same soundtrack as in the movie. The tracks and sounds are very good quality, and they all work together to really create the Star Wars atmosphere.Gameplay The gameplay is excellent.. I can't remember the last time I had a smirk on my face from playing a game.. Deflecting the lazer bolts right back at the droids was straight from the movie, and the interface was fairly well designed. The only problem I had with this game was the jumping.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary When I rented this game I could not wait to play it! It met every one of my expectations. It was way better than the first Episode 1 game on PSX and best of all it's 2 players! Swwwweet!Sound Sounds could not be better! The lightsaber sound effects are awesome and you can hear metal crashing to the floor when the droids fall. The only minorly bad thing was poor voice inmpersonations.Gameplay The gameplay is harder and much more chalanging than Episode 1 the phantom menace. The controls are great because you have different lightsaber moves for each button and you can also do different combos. Another great thing is that each character has a different set of moves and specials. The game plays at it's best on 2 player mode. It is so fun when you both kill the battle droids, working together as a team. Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I was really excited about this game. I am a huge Star Wars fan, and couldn't wait to actually play as a character from the movie. Everything went well until it came time to line up jumps. The perspective of the game makes this almost impossible. It is very frustrating to watch your player die again and again because you can't see what direction you are facing. Sometimes your player will take off in a seemingly random direction in mid-jump.Sound Dead on. Heart pounding. Awesome. Hook your PS to a good stereo, crank it up, and just try to listen to the intro without getting goosebumps!Gameplay As I said above, the jumping areas of this game are pretty shabby. One thing that is pretty cool is the number of attacks you can unleash with your lightsaber. I think the blocking is neat, too. You must wait until the last minute to block, and then the shot will deflect right back to the gun-firing goon. One more thing that can get to be a pain is that you must manually target each and every enemy. I got used to this fairly quick, but you would think a Jedi would be able to automatically swing his saber at the droid whacking him in the back with its blaster.Would you like to Comment? This game is just another money maker for Lucas and Co.Sound good music and decent sounds.Gameplay I got hit in the back a lot. That's OK though. However the Blocking sucked. I also ended facing directions I didn't want to face. It was fun when it worked. I died instantly at parts and I'm still no sure why.Would you like to Comment? Even if you don't like Star Wars its a good game to rent on a weekend or something.Sound Great sound, all the Phantom Menace songs are here and nicely done. Excellent sound.Gameplay The gameplay is good, a lot of light saber swinging and force pushing. Plus you can even control one of two vehicles on certain levels, a laser tank thing and a hover attack vehicle thing. The only weakness is some levels i found really tough, maybe i suck or something but i consider myself a pretty decent gamer and pretty decent at the game just some levels were a tad tricky. Summary Yes, finally we get a Star Wars action game that does indeed remind me of the Super Star Wars games. This is the best Star Wars game for PSX or N64 that features you controling people (not ships like in Rouge Squadren), much, much better then The Phantom Menace game. If you are looking for a nice fun Star Wars action game to run through I can't think of a better console game.Sound The Star Wars music is there and like always gets your blood pumping, the music plays in conjuntion to the movie and is crystal clear. Definately helps the mood of the game. A big plus here.Gameplay My favorite part of Star Wars are light sabers so this game was awesome to me. In the game you control a Jedi, Qui-Gon, Obi-wan, Mace Windu, Plo Koon, or Adi Gallia. Each has different attributes and abilities, you can alsao use the force. Every now and then you get to control a ship which is a nice mix from continuously running around and chopping stuff up. This game is definately a beat 'em up at heart. This game also has 2 player cooperative just like any good beat 'em up should but I'm a loner so I didn't get to check this out, although I think it would be a blast to play it with someone.Would you like to Comment?
