This is a very difficult game so be prepared to get frustrated at times.Sound The sound was pretty good. The richocet sounds all around were a nice touch.Gameplay The gameplay was good. Some complain about the lack of save points throughout the levels. I believe that this is a good feature, it makes you work harder when you play and when you finally beat that level you feel much more rewarded. If you could save the game at any point then you could just suicide run and gun everybody down. I don't think that this was the way the developers wanted the game to be played. Some have said that the disarm feature wasnt useful. It was for me. I have needed to grab a gun for a number of people before. In some situations you may be pinned down with limited ammo. So once you run out you can either use your dog Shadow or you can run and disarm a thug and take his gun yourself. I didnt find myself using the human shield quite so often though. I would never get that close to an enemy unless I had to. And normally if I was that close I would call the dog or use the bullet time feature. The hand to hand combat was alright. It wasnt anything special. I did like the way the game made it feel as though you were really hitting these guys hard when you punched or kicked them. Putting you up against 50 guys ready to jump you was fun. A great way to relieve stress. Except when you get beat up then that just angers you even more. There are a few escort missions in the game. But unlike other missions the person you are escorting can take care of themselves for the most part. They will rarely die unless you do not do anything whatsoever. But if you are fighting alongside them then they will not die. In the level when you escort the girl through the streets outside the strip masage parlor I let her go by herself for about half the level only to find her with 75% of her health somewhere way up the street surrounded by enemies. The boss battles were decent. Nothing special either. They werent as hard as I thought they would be. Like the first boss you can easily beat up. The bosses in the prison were easy as well if you know how to fight. As you progress it does get a little tougher. The hardest boss I thought were the assasins in the massage parlor. Other than that the bosses were fairly easy for me. All you have to do is know how to defeat them. Such as the man with the flame thrower on the rooftop. Just run and gun, his flamethrower doesnt have a very long range. I beat him in 2 tries. The clown van boss was easy as well. I found that the gatling gun doesnt do all that much damage to you. I beat it in 2 tries. The guy with those darts at the docks just kinda pissed me off more than anything else. I found all you have do with most bosses is get close enough and use bullet time. I killed Tattoo in about 30 seconds using this technique. The levels themselves are alot harder than the boss battles.Would you like to Comment? Summary Dead to Rights was a waste of my time, especially for a third person shooter, this game is just like another "Max Payne". Its kinda cool how you can dive and all that, but the story line is just like any other story line, I mean come on! The women in that game run and walk like men! The worst 40 bucks ive spent! I give this game overall a 2/5.Sound The sound is average for a shooter game, you hear the gun shots and stuff I give the sound a 3/5.Gameplay The controls on this game are horrific! The story line is just like any other game. And one of your missions is to sneek into a club? When you get shot and it shows blood, it looks rediculous! I resent this game! I give the gameplay a 2/5.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I bought Dead to Rights on its first release date along with Buffy and let me tell you this game is highly addictive and rocks!Dead to Rights on Xbox is only for the challenged hardcore suicidal gamers! No Soul Calibur or Tekken Namco style here, so beginners stay away from this game on Xbox! I heard though that they toned down the difficulty for Ps2 and gamecube versions extremely. I have beaten Max Payne and Dead to Rights game 3 times.I traded in Max Payne because Dead to Rights is 3 times better.Dead to Rights has continuos action, better storyline, canine assistance,mini-games,more females, and won't give you that "dizzy spell" boring motion sickness headache like Max Payne gave me in some areas of wandering around with nothing to shoot. This was because Max Payne is a PC port ,but Dead to Rights was made action heavy from the floor up for Xbox! This one is now in my hardcore Xbox game library sitting beside Tao Feng!!!Sound Nice.Appropriate in areas. The club has nice disco music. The gun wound shots are the best heard. I liked the character's dialogs too. Some give clues to beating the bosses and are very funny. For example, Jack says to the prison warden who smokes during their fighting "You're a big boy Pinnacle but you ain't got any wind!!" The last boss says to Jack,"How about sitting by the fire and let me tell you how I killed the late great Slate boys!!"Ha Ha!!!Gameplay Multiple real weapons with heavy action. It involves Kick and punch beat-em up style,Run and gun, multiple mini-games,matrix style bullet time,strip-tease,prison fights, club fights, airplane and helicopter fights, mafia fights, and female fatale fights.Dead to Rights has auto lock-on targeting for killing the closest bad guys, but sometimes is inaccurate but doesn't hinder the gameplay.Would you like to Comment? Summary Dead to Rights has to be the worst game released on the xbox. There is nothing to like about this game. The sounds are awful and the graphics are no better than N64 graphics. I wouldnt even recommend this as a rental Stay far far away from this horrible excuse for a game.Sound The worst acting since Plan 9 From Outer Space. the first resident evil has better voice acting.Gameplay The gameplay is the worst thing about this crap biscuit. DTR tries so hard to be Max Payne but falls flat on its extremly ugly face. Dead to Rights might have been a decent Max Payne rip off if namco would have left out the god awful hand to hand combat. And whats with the stupid dog?Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary An insanely hard game that becomes repetitive far too early. A Slow moving camera and clunky auto targeting system prove very frustrating. Not nearly as good nor as fun as Max Payne. How can the company that did the great Soul Calibur game do a peice of crud like this?Sound Guns are alright. Music gets anoying and doesnt always tie in to what is happening on screen.Gameplay Move a few inches on screen, shoot many enemies that pop up ,die and start over. Repeat. Throw in a few button mashing mini games intermitantly.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Some of gamers call dead to right the evil twin of max payne... i cant understand those people because dead to right really rocks... me , i compare it to max payne on exctasy!NO its not an easy games , so people who dont like to be challenged , skip this one fast! but if youre in to play one of the fastest , toughest game out there , give it a shot right now! Sound sounds are good ... like a good stallone movie... nothing to say more here.... the call from the badguys are random , good voice sample for the main character...really nice all around sounds and music....Gameplay The gameplay is not hard to get used to , in the beginning they give you a tutorial , kind of , while starting the game .For the first time i think the xbox controller is really appropriate for this game . You got a lots of gun to play with ( kill people is playing??) . You have to know the accuracy in long range , and theire destructive power . You got more stuff than only kill people all over the place . You got mini game to play , like play unlocking door , disarm bomb , and distract goons with a stripper to be able to continu your journey. anyway the gameplay is fast ,effective , and really addictive... oh did i mention bullet-time?this one is really important when you got 10 bad guys sourounding you ... i have killed six in one bullet time jumps... so you can see how important it is to the game... so use it! If so, than that explains why there hasn't been any half decent X-Box titles since Halo. I was so excited about this title when reading the previews but then was hesitant when my friend bought and played it. I decided to buy it from him 2 weeks later figuring it was still pretty new and I couldn't go wrong for 20 bucks. 2 weeks later and Can't even sell it back to EB for $10. what a wait of time.Sound Uh... Jack's voice is cool? Uhhhhh.... and the guns sound kinda frightening?P.S. If anyone wants to buy my XBox for cheap money e-mail me and we'll talk. Gameplay The gameplay is decent until you stop shooting. Although it took me a while to figure out how that stupid hiding behind the wall thing worked. Once the little minigames showed up, I felt like I was playing the old Atari games from way back. What was the point of the mini games? Yeah, like I would pay $50.00 to get a game that would make me hit a button in synch with the icon as it is going by the screen. All while a dancer who looks like she'd been working the night shift for about 35 years with the blocky face-and body, dance half naked on the stage trying to distract you. wow fun!... I take that back, I really had more fun playing Pong on the Atari. That bullet time was original(It really was designed before Max Payne) and it shows. Why can't it be like Max Payne instead of only allowing you to shoot straight in one direction? The hand to hand fighting is suprisingly really good---if you like to press punch for a million and a half times with an occasional kick in there for good measure against 20 enemies at a time that all look the same. If you're not a fan of that, than I guess you're outta luck and might think it's subpar. I guess those disarms were decent but that is just eyecandy to hide the horrible-everything else- in the game.Would you like to Comment? Summary Dead to Rights is a third-person action shoot-em-up trying to capitalize on the success of the far superior Max Payne. Though it retains some of the charm which Max Payne great it falls short due to its lack of originality and depth.Sound I really don’t pay that much attention to sound. The only thing I do remember being bad in DTR regarding sound was the terrible voice acting. The dialogue was atrocious! I was embarrassed at the cornball lines they game Jack Slate. I’m guessing they went overboard on the “gritty” film noire script.Gameplay The gameplay of DTR is broken up into 4 distinctly annoying parts. Most of the game is comprised of shoot these people to find this key to open this door or shoot these people to be able to flip this lever. This can become monotonous, but at least provides some exciting situations. The other three portions of the game are terrible. First is the hand-to-hand fighting. Never have I seen a worse fighting engine. The controls are unresponsive and the actual fighting is nothing short of dumb luck. If you have played the Bruce Lee game for the X-Box, the fighting in DTR measures up to its Lee’s level of excitement. The mini games which are sprinkled throughout the game are a nice attempt at breaking up the shooting scenes but I soon found myself wishing I was firing bullets at something. Lastly are the rail shooter levels. While they are a nice tangent from the other modes of play some of the scenarios can be exceedingly difficult and the crosshair is too twitch making it hard to focus on 1 target for the insane amount of time it takes to kill it.Would you like to Comment? Summary fall into the shoes and adopt the problems of officer Jack Slate, who was framed for murder. this game is good except the fact that it takes too long to pass some of the missions. i definitely recommend this game in alot of different categories. i recommend this game to people who: like action games that actually have action in them, people who: like good story lines, people who: like games with great graphics, and lastly people who: have alot of time on their hands. what i didnt like about this game is that some of the levels are just too hard, and dont make sense, although i got past them, but it took like 3 days!!!Sound the sound in this game was really good, one cool thing in particular was that you can hear the bullet shells hit the ground after you shoot. i thought that was really cool. but there are some bad things about the sound for instance some of the voices of the characters in the game get really annoying, and stupid phrases that are said by the villains. but again overall i recommend this game to many.Gameplay the gameplay is really pretty good, but only to someone that doesnt mind learnin a few more buttons than some other action games they might have played. i personally got the gameplay down pat pretty good, pretty quick because of the level tutorial at the beginning of the game.however some levels are just not worth the time, and they are annoying after a while but you get over it pretty quick.i think that if you really like action games this has alot to offer and is worth the price that it is sold for.Would you like to Comment? If your not into 3rd person shooters I could understand, but DTR is one of the best xbox games available period. This is one game that you have to take your time and learn the controls. Once you do you won't let go of this game. The only negative about this game is the akward camera angles it puts you in during the game. Not that big of a deal though. Its a very tough game to play too. Your find yourself playing a level over and over again, cause you have to use strategy to get to the next level. A lot people think Max Panye is better, I don't. Max Payne is good at first but its the same thing over and over. Walk into a room use the bullet time, shoots bad guys and onto the next level. No strategy at all. DTR requires a little bit more thinkin to get to the next level. This game could've been amazing if it was somthing like Grand Thef Auto 3 where you can rome around massive cities, lookin for Jack's father killers in a big city like Liberty city would of stunning. If DTR was something like that with the storyline its has and all its great elements, like the bullet time, human sheilds, and the disarms. Look out, hopefully there is a DTR 2 in development and the game is something like that. True Crimes Street of L.A. looks like a game that gonna be something like that. So I'll keep my eye out for that one. Overall DTR is a great game, again I hope there is a DTR 2 in the future.Sound The sound is great its got action movie feel to it. From the start of the game all the ways to the end. The gun sounds are the best the shogun sounds sweet. I the love sound on the levels where is raining and thundering. It like watching a movie.Gameplay When I first started playing DTR I was like what the hell is this. It felt really bad, but the more I played it the more I picked up on it. I finally got the controls when I was in the club at the beginnig of the game just blasting enemies from every direction. I was like "that's what I'm talking about". The more you play it the more your learn the controls. Once you learn the controls the game is just fun to play. The targeting system is perfect. Pressing the Right trigger button swithes from target to target and also it locks on targets displaying green for no shot, yellow for possible shot, and red for clear a shot. The black or white button one of those two not sure, gives you the option for automatic precise aiming. The gameplay is good otherwise I wouldn't have finished the game cause it exetremely hard. The disarm are just PHAT the best thing I've seen in a game. The best one is when Jack takes the guy, lays on his back and throw him into the air with his legs, takes his own machine gun from him and while the thug is in the air, Jack just fill the thug with bullets. The only ability missing from Jack is jumping and crawling. He only dives foward, backward and side to side. He can duck, lean against walls, shoot out of corners, grab enemies for human shield, and use shadow his dog as lethal weapon. The fighting is very good but everybody fights the same, they could've add more moves to Jack. If the game had tekken 4 fighting element it would've been better. Not bad though.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Dead to rights features tons of weapons many cool moves and some really challenging mini-games.Also your very own police dog to help take down bad guys and sniff out bombs.Including a great targeting system it makes DTR one of the best first person shooters out their.Sound Probably the only part of the game that doesnt have problems. The Sound is great with every bullet fire and Moaning hooker it really makes you feel inside the game. With great backround Music that goes great with the action makes it even better. Footsteps across water puddles and ricocheying bullets add effect. And the voices of the characters are done very well too.Gameplay Many people think this game is a Max Payne twin. I disagree though they share some similarities its very much diffrent. DTR does have the same "bullet time" dive but the story is very diffrent. What really makes it diffrent is its auto targeting system. You use the right trigger to toggle the targets and the diffrent colors represents your accuracy. Red for lock on, yellow for 50-50 shot and green is a miss. The weapons make this game even more fun i've counted over 35 weapons in the game and im sure theirs more. But the best part is the moves you can do. Like disarming enemys in over two dozen diffrent ways. And grabbing a guy and using him for a human shield while shooting others. The mini game also add spice to the game. They include getting your stripper girlfriend to distract bouncers and disarming bombs and picking locks. But this game isnt perfect it also boasts many problems. For instance thier is waaaaayy to much hand to hand combat. In the first level you rarely need to use your hands. But when you reach level 2 you wont see a gun for about an hour. You just use your fists, kicks and grabs. The other things is its extreme difficulty. Thiers only 1 setting for difficulty so you dont get to pick. Some levels take over 10 tries till you finally beat it, which can be annoying playing the same thing over and over.Would you like to Comment? Otherwise, stay away.-Requires patience, occasional thinking (!!), and busy trigger finger Sound Good sound effect. Can't find anything exceptionaaly good, however.Gameplay Very good action. It feels like watching an action movie. Motion captured moves are really cool and will totally blow you away. Somewhat like Max Payne, but it's more developed. Difficulty is hard, and can be frustrating now and then, and also rewards you greatly if you make it.Would you like to Comment? Summary What appeared at first to be a Max Payne clone actually turned out to much more. The story is your basic cop vs. the world deal but there are some interesting plot twists throughout it. Gameplay wise, Dead to Rights is something of an evolution in the genre. Rather than just shooting anything that walks on two legs, this game implements such thing as very cool looking disarms, minigames like lockpicking and sniping, and even your truty K-9 dog. The camera isn't the greatest in the world, but it also isn't the worst. If you liked Max Payne then you should try out Dead to Rights but be warned, this is no walk in the park. This game is really tough but not impossible.Sound Though there aren't any tracks that are particularly great, the music in the game is adequate. When the action picks up so does the music. The voice acting ranges from mediocre to pretty good though never as horrible as Capcom games.Gameplay The gameplay was somewhat of a surprise to me. There are several ways you can dispose of enemies. There the traditional 'shoot everything in sight' method, complete with a bullet time like method of slowing the action down. If you find yourself without a gun or just out of bullets you can send your dog, Shadow, to kill an enemy and then bring you the gun the enemy had. Or if you feel like being fancy, you can go up to an enemy an take the gun yourself using one of the many cool disarms. Then there are the mini games. They vary from level to level. Some are lockpicking missions. There are the bombing difusing ones and my favotite, using your stripper girlfriend to distract some guards while you sneak around in a club. Overall gameplay is very varied and there are many ways to get the job done. Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. The story is a bit identical to Payne's; You play a cop name Jack Slate, whose father is murdered. And once you're on the prowl for his killer, this one bad guy sets you up. After escaping from prison, your now in the fight of your life throughout the rest of the story.Sound The sound is pretty good, but I bet it would sound even better with a home theatre system.Gameplay The game is hard, but not as hard as you think. You may die a lot, but keep at it and you'll do fine. The thing I didn't like about the game were the mini-games. Some were fun, but others were a waste of time.Would you like to Comment? Summary I was very interesting in buying and playing this game based on the preview in the two XBox magazines (OXM and XBN) but after seeing it in action I am left very disappointed.Sound Sound...well...it was there. I didn't pay much attention to the music. The voice acting was straight out of a B-movie, so in that respect it did what was needed. Weapon sounds were pretty basic...nothing new or revolutionary here.Gameplay Gameplay...hmmm...where to start. The autotarget system is okay I guess. It reminds one of Soul Reaver. Hold Right Trigger, jam on A Button...tap Right Trigger for new target...repeat. The camera, as I'm sure many people have reported, is horrible. Half the time you're busy trying to shoot somebody you've targeted, they slip around a corner and you're busy shooting their corpse because you can't tell that you've killed them. Meanwhile, his buddies are carving you up. Very disappointing considering an anchored camera (ala Tomb Raider) would have made MUCH more sense and solved much of my problem in this area. Oh, and Shadow...he just appears when you need him. Does that make ANY sense?!?Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. It's a huge challege and can be very frustrating, but when its finally over the heart is happy.Sound The guns sound full. The voice acting is mostly good. All of the main charachers are done decently. Well, not the asian chick. But everyone else. Really who cares about her, although great voice acting from everyone adds to a game. The music is terrible. A hot soundtrack would have blessed this game, but the bad one it has doesn't damn it. Simply use hot soundtracks from your own collection.I would like to see more nice looking stuff like the disarms put into a sequel, or any game for that matter. Fast and smooth, and not in slow motion. I would also like to see a charachter stylishly using more of the objects in a room like tables, walls and railings. He should jump off walls, slide down rails, roll over tables, tuff like that. In Dead to Rights you'll have a good time being Chow Yun Fat. However after hours of die and start over, die and start over, die and start over, you may feel like every one of Chow Yun fat's victims put together into one continuously dying charachter. Still, there are more than enough good moments where you ARE Chow Yun Fat as opposed to being a victim OF Chow Yun Fat to make the game worthwhile over all. You'll pat yourself on the back for being good enough to complete it, too. My 5 stands for good or passable. My 1 stands for not passable. There is no in between. Gameplay After 50 reviews, you already know the mechanics of this game. You must target an enemy to shoot him. You can take a leap, and if you hold the leap button the leap is in slow motion. You can crouch, which may sound useless but crouching behind boxes and such is one fifth of the things that keep your desperate behind alive. You can back up onto a wall and scoot to the edge to peek out or roll out and shoot people. There is a dog that you can sic on the bad guys, which is an automatic kill and will get you their weapon. There are disarms, moves that grab the gun from a bad guy and kill him in a stylish way. Finally, there is the ability to grab a guy and keep him in front of you so that he absorbs incoming fire for you.Gameplay is a mixed bowl. One the one, bigger hand, the game is a blast to play. When the levels are sniper free and there are plenty of things to hide around, you're basically the dancing gunman Chow Yun Fat himself. Stand behind a door and hear 'here he comes!', and an unlucky guy opens the door to kill you. You rush to him and grab him. Immediately he's a human shield and you're blasting away with you're shot gun, one hit kills for the guys that are close to you. To the left, dead, to the right, dead, and finally the man absorbing your bullets drops down dead from a fatal gunshot fired from a man behind a box. As he falls your two .50s come out and you take a dive to the left, no slo mo, in real time, taking the guy behind the box out. Now with a pillar between you and the bad guys, you scoot to its side with your back against it to take a peek into the open. 3 guys looking for cover, you switch to your akm rifle and rool out to blast the living crap out of each one. On to the next room. Moments like these make you say 'what is everyone talking about, this game is awesome. oh well, i guess i have special taste.' Then there are other moments that will bring your desperate-to-be-pumped-up-for-something self down to reality again. You will die many times and it wont be fair. You usually start a huge chunck of the level over again when you die, which does add very important tension to the gunfights because its a severe penalty but when its time to pay the piper then its a real pain. This is the foundation of what is frustrating with this game. Sometims the programers just put you in an open pit and place dudes with sniper rifles and machine guns all around you and say 'live'. And it will NOT be fun to repeatedly NOT live. The fighting is a specific example of this. Some people say that the fighting sucks all around the board because its too hard. I think that these are people who haven't felt the fighting system completely out. Its simple enough with basic punch and kick combos, a defensive position, and a throw move. It seems you should be able to punch punch kick kick through every body, cause its so simple. You can't, or you'll get your butt kicked. Basically, each enemy will dodge half of your attacks and counter attack immediately while you are open, hitting you with a 4+- hit combo. With three guys who have one third the life you have, this means you wont die. Usually though there are 30 or more people to fight at once. This means that you will die in big fights. You can't save anywhere in the level, you'll die, you'll start aaaall the way over again, knowing that you don't know how to survive that part you died in and that you will die again. You will be angry, and if you're an angry person you will be livid. The disarms are usually nice, although these are not what help the game register at John Woo levels. People don't mention that they are useless in most gunfights. I didn't use them much, and you probably wont either. They require you to disarm yourself, walk into the open, and stay there for a little while. The beauty is in skillfully taking cover, and its in diving every so often. Would you like to Comment? I've never played a game where I had to do a level/chapter over and over again like I have in DTR. When I first started the game I hated ita nd regretted buying it However, once I got by a few chapters I started to really enjoy it even though it was frustrating as hell. The thing I really dislike about it is that you can't save it at any point. How many times did I struggle through a level and finally complete it just to get blown away by some bad dude who comes out of nowhere. I can't begin to tell you. The game automatically saves after each sub-chapter within the main chapter, but it should save at different intervals in the sub-chapter as well. There are too many bad guys. The worst is when the game saves and you have hardly any energy left. This happened to me during chapter 4 when the game saved and I was left out to dry when I had to go up the stairs and fight the backup Chinese dudes. AS soon as I head up the stairs, the snipers would pick me off. I must have tried a thousand time to do it, but I ended up getting so frustrated that I went online and got the cheat code to open up all the remaining chapters. I had to skip chapter 4 because there was no possible way of getting by it once it saved when I had no energy. This is a major drawback of the game. You also can't retrace your steps to find health once the game saves automatically. All-in-all, it's a fun game, but be prepared for your blood pressure to rise significantly out of frustration. Sound Great sound. Realistic gun soundsGameplay A lot of action and really easy to operate once you know what buttons do whatWould you like to Comment? One of the first levels is the Disco, where after you get into a fistfight with 20 guys, then you get into a shootout with another 50 all around you. That's just the begining!!Sound Nothing exceptional, overall good.Gameplay Some cool disarm moves. You use some of the baddies as human shields, and when you're done with them, you cap'em in the earhole, or if you're unarmed, snap their neck. The dog is great when you need a new weapon, sic'em fido! The bullet time is actually a pain in the arse. The mini games are too numerous as well. Less distractions, and more shooting would have made this game Da Bomb! | ||||||||||
