If you like the original Mario than you'll love Super Mario Sunhine! I really enjoyed playing this game. The water pack that he gets shoots water and you use it to fly. You can get the rocket nosel and other neat nosels to use on the water pack. There are many worlds and you will eventually get to ride a rollercoaster that is at the amusment park!!! The story is well thought of and all the characters are well done. They even bring some old classic mario games that can be quite hard. Sometimes thoses little games got me a bit frustrated, but in total I recommend this game to all!!!Sound The sound is clear and you are able to hear everything. No bad launguage. No sounds are all muffled ornot able to be heard at all. There is nothing really wrong with the sound just you may hear something and then not hear it again, so you don't know if it was a bird or the bad guy!Gameplay The gameplay is great! There is nothing too difficult in this game. The instructions are easy to follow, but you should be paying attention when you get the instructions! All of the places that are needed to get to are not always easy to get to, but that makes the game fun!Would you like to Comment? This game does not revolution gaming as we now it as its former Mario 64 did, but it is still great. Enriched within the magnificent color you wil find a very interesting story line and will soon find yourelf immersed within a beautfiul tropical island paradise. The water cannon bring a different fell to the game, not necessarily a better feel, but different. This new feature to the game is not bad as is fits in nicely with the game. Marion still does his flips, his cool moves, and al of that good stuff that you mario gamers are looking for are all there. This game will not dissappoint anyone whi is looking for a quality game to playSound Songs go along good with the game. The settings and the songs blend together for that nice tropical fell to it. Some of the musc is very catchy and will have you humming the tune even after you are done playing.Gameplay The gameplay is nothing short of fantastic. No many how many hours you have spent on the game there is always something to be done. Challenges upon challenges await you within this game. The game may seem like all pretty colors but do not let that fool you. There are mayn difficult tasks to be done in this game. Yo will have to earn a lot of those shines that you collect in the game. Despite the challenges being difficult they are always fun and enjoyable.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Rating Reviewed By Ryan LeonardoFrom Las Vegas, NV Review Date 12/21/2002 Overall Rating ![]() 4 of 5 Rate this review? Summary Mario has been considered the father of video games because he has been there since the beginning. When people hear Nintendo, Mario pops up to their heads because he's the most popular Nintendo character. His games have been innovations to the platforming genre. Super Mario Bros. was the first great side-scroller and Super Mario 64 was the first 3D game. That's why people are expecting a lot out of this new Mario game then left disappointed because it didn't meet their expectations. Shigeru Miyamoto is just human. He can't go beyond 3D or maybe in the future he will. This game is not a Super Mario 64 clone either. It's just perfecting the old Mario formula and added new gameplay mechanics. Just like Super Mario Bros. 3 is to Super Mario World. This also wasn't as classic as the Mario games that came before it. If your affected by nostalgia and comparing this game with previous Mario games you will be disappointed in the end, just like me.Sound There are lots of catchy music in this game and matches the event and place that it's on. If it's in the amusement park it sounds like your having fun. If your in the beach the music is serene and peaceful. If your collecting red coins in the secret levels the music makes you go in a hurry because there's a time limit. There's also the old Super Mario Bros. tune in this game remixed with oohhhs and ahhhs and it sounds great. Mario sounds like the way Mario is supposed to be and he has different kinds of words that he says when he jumps, gets hit, goes to the worlds, etc. Peach sounds ditzy, but I like it. I didn't imagine Bowser to sound like the way he was in the game but that's o.k. The items sounds just the way it was in the previous Mario games. Some games nowadays are all about graphics but they are shallow and not fun. If you like having fun, then buy this game now!Gameplay Mario has a newfangled gizmo called the Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device that freshens the Mario gameplay but also ruins it because many levels and missions goes with using the F.L.U.D.D. There are lots of fun minigames and really cool boss battles like the one were Mario rides the roller coaster that goes upside down and bullet bills coming from a giant Mecha Bowser that's homing in on him. Some worlds like Ricco Harbor, Pinna Park, Sirena Beach, and Noki Bay had top-notch level design and creativity. SMS is a game that depends so much on collecting coins. Yeah, there were those platformer levels with the classic Mario tune which are like gaming heaven to me because that's what Mario is all about. But doing it all over again just for red coins is not good. Most worlds have 4 missions that are red coin collection but you're going to have fun while doing it. The chase water Mario missions are also repetitive. Some minigames and bosses get repeated many times instead of thinking new ideas. Some shines are so easy to get like spray water on the ground to uncover a shine and shoot water to the gold bird and you'll get a shine are cheap ways to get a shine. I think Nintendo has to go back to the 96 long levels that Super Mario World had instead of just making 7 worlds. The worlds sure are gigantic, but I prefer more levels with more platforming style than collecting items called shines. The last world called Corona Mountain was smaller compared to the one from Super Mario 64 and the boss battle was easy but fighting in a giant bathtub sure is a bizarre idea. The enemies in the island sure are refreshing because they are different from the usual goombas and koopas but instead of making the last boss Bowser, they should have put a new one like Smithy from Super Mario RPG or Wart from Super Mario Bros. 2. There were fewer enemies in each world. But even with all these, the game is a pure joy to play, and that's what matters.Would you like to Comment? It is basically the same idea. There are 120 "shines" to collect (they're identical to stars). You go in different levels and complete a series of tasks. Some people complain it's too much like SM64, but I'm glad. I was hoping it wouldn't change much. After all, mostly anyone who's played SM64 agrees it's the best game in history. But mario sunshine isn't a clone at all. The biggest change is the FLUDD, a water pack that mario uses to clean up mud all over the island. It can also let Mario hover, build up a turbo blast to run on water, and even send him rocketing in the air. This of course opens a whole new level of gameplay. I won't give away the plot, but it starts off that someone disguised as Mario is covering Isle Delfino with gooey sludge. Hmmmmmm....wonder who could be behind it??Sound Awesome music. The tropical tunes sound great and really put you in the mood of the game. I still hum the Delfino Plaza tune often. Plus I love the classic mario tunes in the "secret" levels.Gameplay This is Nintendo we're talking about, what do you expect? Tight and simplistic controls. It's so much fun to use FLUDD. The only complaint is it doesn't have quite as much variety in moves as mario 64. No punches, long jump, sweeping kick, ect. But that's not much of a problem. The biggest accomplishment is the camera control. It's so much easier using the c stick. Plus when you are blocked by a building, a shadow effect appears so you can still see.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary A great, fun game made from that classic Mario magic that we all love. Not a perfect game, but a fun one! I loved every single minute of it. Please note: I played all Mario adventures and am a real fan of the serie. Sound The midi music is pretty nice, the sfx are standard... but like the graphics, they do the job just right.Gameplay Mario is a charm to control: he jumps, uses his waterpack, swims etc.Only problem with this game is the camera. It gets stuck all the time and sometimes you won't see your character at all. Very frustrating in certain stages, but doesn't take the fun away. The rest of the game is a basic "save the princess" type of story. Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. It is very much like Mario 64 with a lot of added features like the use of FLUDD.Sound This isn't a symphony, but the music goes well with the theme of each level. I also like the way they remixed some of the original SMB themes and sounds.Gameplay If you have play Mario 64 this game will be easy to get used to playing. Only, the camera has problems getting stuck behind walls which may cause you to fall off of ledges. I didn't like the way you couldn't smiw to distant places. At least they could of had big wave or something besides an inviscible wall to stop you. And, Yoshi can't swim! He is frustrating to get and even more frustrating to keep full of juice to spit. This game has lots of challenges like run accross thin moving platflorms while jumping gaps and object to collect 8 red coin in a limited time.Would you like to Comment? When I first heard about it I well kinda wanted to stay away from it , the title Cough. But it turned out to be a cool game much like Mario 64 .Anyway , the game starts out with Mario , Peach , and Toadsworth (not to mention a bunch o'toads) on a plane to isle Delfino a sun drenched tropical island with strange inhabitance . The vacation had not even yet started when you find out someone had been covering the island with goop causing the Shine Sprites (what keeps the island sunny) to go away, and YOU have been blamed ...But how could Mario have done it ? He just got here that is what lies within the game ...Sound I dont mind the music but the voice of peach is too high .. Mario doesnt talk much and the townspeople mumble .the sound isnt much to talk about .....Rent it see if you like it . Gameplay I think the controls work perfetly for Mario .The camera can be annoying at times but i bareley have any problems with it , i accually think you have freedom of camera .The game will last a long time with the 120 Shine Sprites .I havent got all of them yet and it is very hard to get all of the blue coins (10 blue coins = 1 shine sprite)Levels can be very challenging and so can some bosses (Last stage in the ricco place ) Yoshi is kinda useless because he cant swim .Alot of replay value (120 sprites) Would you like to Comment? Summary Mario is a terrific looking romp through a classic Super Mario setting with a few new twists. That being said Mario does have a fare share of downfalls, such as... Awkward controls TERRIBLE camera clipping issues! HUGE learining curve! Some iffy texture mapping. Sound The sound is okay, but not very memorable. I wish the would have composed a couple new pieces for Mario.Gameplay The game play is good, but could have been great had the engineering team spent more time tweaking the camera relative controls. Often times just when you’re about to make a jump the camera will swing around clipping through geometry causing the player to become very disoriented. Gameplay should make a game challenging, not crappy camera implementation. However when you're in big open areas where the camera performs well the puzzles are loads of fun. Would you like to Comment? While I did like Mario 64, I didn't feel like playing it again. Also, I don't know if it was just the stupid voice given to fludd, but I hated that water pack, I disliked cleaning up the paint-like substance everywhere. I didn't enjoy how they put such a playful aspect on the whole title. Yes I know it's a game for children, but this went (in my opinion) beyond "tot-mentality". I mean come on in the last battle you fight Koopa and his son in their bath-tub!?!?! And what happened to Koopa's original children from Mario 3?Sound I didn't have a problem with the sound too much, except that stupid fludd, I can't believe they let the game ship with that voice. Blah!Gameplay Gameplay wasn't up to par in my opinion either. Like I said I didn't enjoy spraying everything to clean it up, it just wasn't fun. Plus as I also stated above I think they took it too far with the cheesiness (yes EVEN for a Mario game) I have played many of them and I know what I'm used to, this wasn't it.Would you like to Comment? Summary This game was the first game I bought for the Nintendo GameCube and was the only game i had for quite a while. This game was able to satify my need to playfor all this time. I found that it challenging enough to beat the game and also not impossible. I was able to sit and play for many hours strait without getting bored. I did have a few problems though wich I will discuss later.Sound The sound was sound....What else can i sayGameplay I thought tha the gameplay was average and nothing increadible special. I felt that there was a lack of moves also. In mario 64 you had much more controll over mario. In Sunshine mario cant even crawl!!. The FLUDD does make up for that though wich enables you to reach new levels of gameplay by flying rocketing and tuboing. So as i said before it was average.Would you like to Comment? Summary Super Mario Sunshine was one of the most wanted games for years, since the launch of Super Mario 64. The game is brilliantly graphically detailed and the game play is similar to Mario 64. Mario Sunshine see's the return of mario's old friend Yoshi the dinosaur with a huge appetite. Like Yoshi's story on the N64 he likes to eat fruit and can hover onto higher platforms, and their colours vary. Mario and his fludd, ( flash liquid ultra dowsing devise) must clear Isle Delfino of the graffiti cause by a new foe called shadow Mario. Mario must clear his name and collect all 150 shines that give the island its energy. If you prefer Mario's high challenging platform games and Yoshi to guns, blood and guts this game is for for you.Sound The music varys in many ways depending on where on the Isle Delfinoyou are. Mario's voice sounds different to mazza's voice in mario 64. The footsteps of mario are amazingly timed to match marios running and jumping.Gameplay If you are someone who played Mario 64 to death you will get a similar feel of gameplay and and controls. The maps are set out like Zelda Ocorina of time. The main town in Isle Delfino is very large, you can use FLUDD to reach high places that mario cant jump or wall bounce to. Your FLUDD has more than hover and squirt it it can also do water propeller or mega dash, rocket and give mario a hint or two.Would you like to Comment? Summary Super Mario sunshine for the gamecube is a dream. Everything was a complete success there. Well it was to make me proud. The game is big and one of the hardest ever made. You are mario, the thing on your back is the FLUDD. This is the first game to score a perfect ten in the official nintendo magazine! If nintendo what poeple to be proud of what they have just made then they have achieved there goal the day it was out! Rating: % 99Sound The sound can be better. The sound in Dolphic Town isn't the best. But still it's not bad. It is a bit tangy to my taste of sound. Still i love all of it. Levels music can be a bit wierd in bits. This is about the only problem in the game. Well thats all for this review.See if you can find my other reviews! If you like them that is. Gameplay This is an adventure. Not like the last review i did on super smash bros melee. Except it has got a bit of fighting a bit of humour. Mario recieves a FLUDD which helps him to reach places that he couldn't if he didn't have it. You must collect all the pieces of the FLUDD to collect all of the shines. He can jump higher and quicker now and he can ride the cute little Yoshi who can go even higher by waving his feat all over the place. Graphitti was a stupid idea at first but when you play it you will love it.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary The only Mario games I've ever owned were "Super Mario" 1+2 and "Wario Land" for the GameBoy (yes, the origional grey brick!), apart from that, I had "Donkey Kong" for the Atari 2600, I time where Mario was young and he looked very different!) I did play "Super Mario 64" for about five minutes but not enough time to decide whether it was good or bad. So about a week ago, I went to a local shop and people were messing around with a GC with "Super Mario Sunshine" in it. I played it for about 5 minutes and I was glued to it. It's AMAZING! I can't think of enough good things to say about it. I ended up playing it for about an hour which seemed like a quarter of an hour! You can use this thing called the FLUDD device, (but you probably know about it from other reviews and previews from mags months ago) it's just sooooooo much fun! You can swich from a water gun to a large enviromentally friendly jetpack which can send the great Italian god of plumbers flying into the sky, reaching new heights never possible before! Yesterday I went out and bought it.Sound I dont really know what to say, in the shop I played it on, the monitor was in a sound proof case that was incledibly durable and held the Game Cube aswell. Beware all thiefs out there, you may not be watched, but touching the case instantly sets off an alarm. I witnessed sime 5 year old poking the screen and it going off. BEWARE!!! I have been told that the sound is incredibly clear and that the effects sound really good.Gameplay Incredible, though maybe not the best story line when it comes to depth, but none the less, it's just so easy to pick up and play. The story goes like this: Mario is on holiday and has decided to spend his free time on an island called Isle Delfino, but to his luck, someone has framed Mario for polluting the island and he must now help the annoyed locals to clean up the island and hopefully find the culprite in the process.Would you like to Comment? A friend of mine had an N64 and Super Mario 64, but I never actually got to play enough to make a resonable judgement. Six years later, Super Mario Sunshine comes out, and I've decided to try it out to see what all the fuss is about.... WOW! This might not be the deepest game ever, but it is without a doubt the funnest one EVER! (and i ain't easy to please)Sound Typically Mario, the bouncy 'choons will have you humming in your sleep. There's not much in the way of tear-jerking orchestral brilliance but you don't really expect that in a Mario game. The sound effects themselves are nothing outstanding to be honest, and some of the comedy accents - peach for example, are just awful. On the whole though, they're perfectly adequate although they suit the games' genre and style well enough.Gameplay You have to run round the outside of the tower, dodging rolling boulders to get to the top to fight the Boss, for goodness sake that´s what Ireally want it. I haven't played a Mario game since Mario 3 on the NES and I was amazed at the graphic quality on the GameCube. The game is challenging enough to be difficult (for someone who hasn't played a video game for years) but it's not "stupid difficult" to the point where it feels like you are never progressing. My wife and I have been playing the game for about 4 weeks now on and off and we are finally close to finishing it.Sound Decent. It's basically just remixes of the old music from the NES. The background noise is pretty realistic although Mario's grunting when carrying something or his monkey noises when hanging are thoughly annoying (best to play those levels with the sound turned off).Gameplay Fantastic! Like any other 3D game I've played, there are sometimes problems getting the correct view (if there is something solid like a building next to you) but you will quickly learn to compensate using the C stick. The FLUDD thing is sometimes annoying but I always seem to miss having it on the levels where you can't use it. It has to be the most fun I have had playing a game since popping Unreal Tournament into my computer for the first time. Though individual categories may not score 5's, i think that the gameplay has much moer value then the rest of the categories in the review system.Sound It was really hard to rate this category because my television has terrible speakers. But, from what i heard the sound is really crisp, cheery and you'll feel right at home with the nostalgic yells coming from our favorite fatass plumber. Water sounds great and the characters sound good.Gameplay This game is fun. No doubt about that people. I was jumping, hanging, gliding, swinging, and bouncing with ease. You probably have heard that the camera is nothing exemplary, but proper use of the c-stick will always leave a good playing angle. To me, the camera issue was minor when compared with the fun I had while playing this game.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary So here is the deal. 6 years after Mario 64 shocked the world with it's unique playing style, humour, graphics, invention and sense of fun, along comes its' sequel. Well I was looking forward to it. After all it had been hyped beyond belief, and after 6 hours of play, all I can say is I am HAPPY.Sound The sound is mixture of happy tunes.
