Incredible control, great A.I., Countless teams, and oneword DYNASTY! This game has it all. You can even create a school and compete against the top college teams!Sound Nothing beats the tradition and rivalry of college football! Every team fight song is in this game and they all rock! Just hearing that band noise makes you feel as if you are sitting in the stadium in South Bend or Ann Arbor!Gameplay Gameplay is awesome. Take control of your running back and juke guys out of their shoes, or give them a stiff arm that knocks them off their feet. Play breaking down? Take your QB and run baby! Defense, swim move, slap at the ball, sack the Qb while he looks on in desperation! Don't have a favorite college team, make your own! This single feature makes this game playable over, and over! I never get tired of this game!Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Yes that's right, I paid $20 for this awesome game. Actually I split the price with my brother and I only had to $10. For all those who do not know...THIS GAME IS ONLY $20!!! THE PS2 AND XBOX VERSIONS ARE $50! GO BUY IT NOW!!! Sound Every school theme perfectly produced. What else do I have to say?The commentary is great. The only downside is that players are called by numbers (until they graduate and the newer players have names and the announcers actually say those names). Gameplay Think Madden. Now add more teams. Now add rivalry and mascot games. Now throw in better controls and THE ABILITY TO LATERAL ANYWHERE ON THE FIELD. Stir and you have the best football game ever made.Would you like to Comment? The details are great, from the entrance of the home team, with the crowd going crazy, to the way you can pump up the crowd on defense. All the modes are great, especially the mascot games. Dynasty mode is awesome, especially if you create a school, and lead them to the top. The difficulty levels are perfectly set, with beaing able to crush easy teams on Junior Varsity level, to being able to have a competitive game against the same team on All American level. This game is the best. Even my friend who bought Madden agreed that this is better.Sound The sound is probably some of the best. When the players enter the crowd goes wild, and it seems like you are actually there. The helmets colliding is great. It actually sounds like your there. Then the commentators are great. There are so many things said, and it never gets old. I like how they are only there on televised games, and you get the normal PA at the field during your non-televised games. This games sound is by far the best, the only thing is the players should kinda talk with each other on the lines. I know when I play, my coach has me call help, or X or something. Me and my guard usually kinda point more often to who we block, also sometimes lying, confusing the defense, but thats only a suggesting to make this game the best.Gameplay The first time I played this, I found it very easy to just start right up and play. The players movements are awesome, with the spins and stiff arms and hurdles. The QB can throw and scramble, and just do it all. The only flaw, I think, is that it is too easy to spin out of tackles and stiff arm people. I created a 5'8 running back who is stiff arming and spinning and breaking just about every tackle, but that's ok, just as long as its for me. Also play a mascot game. Most of the mascots don't wear helmets. I've got a few face masking calls there too, but everything else in the game is awesome, you get stellar blocking on returns, and even interceptions. I've noticed that as soon as your team intercepts it, they start to block. I also like the laterals. I do it almost too much, but its just great. The plays are also very detailed and the O-line pushes the defense back amazingly. The AI is great too. The defense can sniff out a reverse, or get behind the line on a great blitz play.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Rating Reviewed By TomFrom Minneapolis, MN Review Date 12/31/2002 Overall Rating ![]() 5 of 5 Rate this review? Summary I have played Madden since the very first game came out. I have played many variations of football games since, but NCAA football for Gamecube tops them all. The plays are more detailed, there are more on the field actions, saving is easier, the graphics are better, and the announcers are insightful. And the mascot game is hilarious. I have absolutely no complaints other than this game was hard to find.Sound Top notch. The bands play the school fight songs, the stadium announcer is detailed and the play by play is excellent.Gameplay You can play in Dynasty mode, season, or exibition, like most other football games. You can create a team, edit the colors, and the stadium. You can create and delete players. In Dynasty you can redshirt and recruit players. In game play feels very real. The ball may bounce around and someone can dive and catch it. In one play my receiver had the ball bounce off him, then he came back and caught it. I really got into the game even though it can take an hour per game. If you run a play too much, the defense crushes it. You can lateral, the QB can scramble with the touch of a button, you don't have to save the profile and user settings separately as in Madden. I have not recruited players, but it sounds a lot like Front Office Football The College Years, and that was very interesting. I've played only 3 games, but they have been challenging and dramatic. As Iowa State, I got schooled by Florida State and then crushed Kansas and then barely beat a 1AA team 25-24. Thank goodness I went for that two point conversion... The comp scoring may be a little high sometimes in sim mode, but then again maybe Miami can score 97 points...The next week they only scored 17 against a ranked team. This is the first football game I have enjoyed since Sierra's FPS football for the PC back in 94. When you're on defense, you can tell when you're being blocked and when the offensive lineman is driving you backwards. You don't have half the defensive players lying on the ground at the end of the play like in past Madden games. And there are actually holes you can see so you can run the ball. I used to have to let the computer run for me in other games. You can also export the draft to Madden 2003. The mascot game pits 11 of your school's mascot against 11 of the opposing school's mascot. It's hilarious to watch. Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Best football Game I've ever played. EA ports really knows what they are doing. Controls are flawless and easy to learn. Graphics are great and sound makes the experience complete. Play-by-play is actually pretty good. I really like how accurate the option play is, you'll just have to check it out for yourself.Sound The crowd and the fight songs are great. The hits are also very intense. The comentator selections the EA made are the best I've heard, very clear and not a hole lot of repeats. The PA mode sounds good too.Gameplay Easy to learn, but hard enough to keep you coming back. Rivalry games and winning trophies makes endless competition. I don't even have to say anything about how great it is to play against a friend. I also like the quick pass feature, which alows you to throw to a reciever without having to press the A button again after snapping the ball. Truely a great football GameWould you like to Comment? I played a season as my team and won a bowl game. You collect trophy and get pennants that is bad. In the off-season you try and get players to come to your college so you will have a strong team the next year. If you like building your own franchise than this game is for you.Sound The sound was also very good. I noticed that for some games the commentators wernt there but for other more popular games they were that was really coolGameplay Game play was smooth it froze a few times but it was a rental so it might have been scratched so I dont now for sure. It otherwise went fairly smoothWould you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Finally a college football game hits a Nintendo platform, and EA sports did a great job with this game. Fortunately, they did not cut GC owners short like other popular sports titles have done in the past (such as NBA 2k2). This game is simply awesome...extremely in-depth, and great gameplay. The Dynasty mode is obviously the biggie in this game, and so far it has been great. You pick a current team, or create one to replace one of the current teams, which I did. You create nearly every last detail of your team, from uniform, to offensive scheme, to power level of the school (ex- Juggernaut, Middle of the Road, Cupcake). You can even select from a ton of fight songs and create your stadium. Once you are done, the game generates players based on the level you picked for your team. During your Dynasty season, you can redshirt players, and customize all of your non-conference games before you begin play. Once you've done that, you start playing. One of the best features in the Dynasty is the Coach Contract, in which it gives you incentives that you have to meet in order to keep your job...something that is greaty appreciated after years of Madden not knowing how close you are to being fired. Now you know and can expect when you will get the ax. For example, my 'Middle of the Road' team is expected to meet the following requirements after 3 seasons: 2/3 Top 25, 1 Conference Championship, or 1 National Championship. Recruiting is probably my favorite part of this game. During the off-season, you evaluate your team just as real college teams do. You then go through the recruiting process, and can choose to go after prospects from any state, any position...including Top 100, In-state prospects, and Interested prospects. Of course you can only go after so many, as you have a certain amount of points each of the 5 weeks, and the further away and less interested they are, the more points it will cost you. Players pick your school based on how prestigous it is and location is usually important. You must be careful how you spread points though, as your roster will be filled with terrible walk-ons if you have any holes. There are a few other modes, including Practice and Mascot Games, but the Dynasty mode alone is enough to buy this game. Sound I have no problem with the sound at all. This is the first NCAA game I've ever owned, so the bands playing was a great new feature to me. The crowd seemed the same as always, so if that didn't get you excited than the fight songs should. The menu music was fine...as long as its not annoying, it doesn't bother me at all.Note to Mark-- Perhaps you should've tried going to settings and turning the crowd volume all the way up if it is that important to you. The prestige of your team also takes a toll on the crowd volume (if your team sucks, there won't be as many people there). Gameplay The controls are very nice in this game...very similar to what Madden uses. One addition is the lateral/pitch Z button, which is primarily used for running options. There are really no major drawbacks to the play. The revamped juke and spin moves over the last few EA football games are very helpful...the juke button is pressure sensitive, so you can go for a quick juke or an all-or-nothing juke. When doing a spin move, the player won't always spin the same way on either side of the field. The running game will depend on the talent you have on the O-line and your RB, just as it does in real-life. In my first season, my 86 overall HB ran for over 1000 yards. After losing 4 out of 5 starting O-Lineman, he barely cracked 600 the next year. The passing game is also very nice, provided that you have a good-armed QB and WR's with good hands.Defense is a bit tougher, especially if you try to always be around the ball. If you start out trying to rush the QB, then switch to a DB after the pass is thrown, it can be quite challenging and often give up big plays. But, you can also come up with timely interceptions, something the CPU doesn't do all that often. All in all, the gameplay is top notch. Would you like to Comment? Summary This is probably one of the best sports games ever. It's the best college football game out so its totally worth getting for anybody. But like any game, its has atleast a few little problems, but over all I havent seen any better. It kinda carries on the infamous tradiotion of the "cheap comeback" where you whoop a team all game and then come 4th qtr they start converting all over the place, but the #1 problem ive had is the kicking. It wants to curve the hell outta every kick you make, even in 0 mph winds!! on a kickoff with no wind, you can aim totally right and it will still got left some, i cant figure out what the problem there is. But hey, its still an awesome game so get it.Sound The sound is flawless. Great music, songs, sound effects, everything.Gameplay The game play is really tight and works good with the controller. And you can change it if it doesnt work for you. Everything is really good in this department. The cheap comebacks and messed up kicking are the only things that present a problem, but they arent that bad.Would you like to Comment? And though I have no idea why I would use it, the create-a-school idea is humorous and in-depth. The announcing is fluid, as are the graphics. But, what I reall love is the contract feature with exact expectations that differ from school to school. This game is a hit.Sound The announcing is the best yet on a sports game, informative without being repetitive.Gameplay The gameplay can be difficult at first, but that's because it's so precise. Everything from momentum to hits from different sides effects how your players move.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Ah how the summer burns on...Great isn't it? And to top it off my favorite college football series is back and better than ever! NCAA Football 2003 is the most amazing football experience since Madden and sure gives the Madden series a run for its money. Improved graphics, crisp visuals, new animations, and new fake out moves are just a few of the many things that u can find in this game...Incredible is too small a word. If u own a Gamecube and u simply can't get enough of college football u should be kicking yourself for not owning this game! Go out and buy this one now! Ull b playing this long after Madden is released.Sound I love the commentary. Nothing new but nothing too repetitious. Great job EA.Gameplay The gameplay is superb. Smoother movements than in 2002 and clearer player animations make for why this game is as good as it was cracked up to be. Seeing the cheerleaders dance while the Fighting Irish surged onto the home field to their fight music pumped me up so much. It was amazing to watch. This game is simply 100x better than 2002.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. If u have a gamecube i insist u get this game for the value.Sound The sound is good ,,the hits,,the crowd chants,,bands playing fight songs,,,its all there. But i really enjoyed the most is the commentary. This game has 3 commentaters talking in harmony as they call the action, and they calls are not repetitive.Sound is excelent.Gameplay For the first time since EA sports moved into the realm of the so called "128 bit" era..i have had fun with there football game (segasports fan). But this game is deep with lots of different types of option tosses, and option passes. Also the running game is wonderful. The stiff arm animation is right on, the spin move is effective, as also the juke. The gameplay is very satisfying.Would you like to Comment? Summary As an avid football fan, I have much love for the college and pro game. Hell, I'd even watch a good Pop Warner game if they telivised it. So you can understand that I'd expect a lot from a simulation style College game like NCAA 2003 by EA Sports. So far, . . .so great! Graphics, Gameplay and sound are nothing short of awesome. The deep Dynasty mode (I'm just beginning it)has so many levels to it. I'm sure I'll be playing this one deep into the fall, even after the Madden and Sega NFL games have been released.Sound Herbstreit and Corso (ESPN College Gameday)add great color commentary and I haven't picked up on too much repetition. They seem to have a smooth commentary for dozens of situations. The crowd sound is pretty well done as well. The fight songs truly help in creating that College atmosphere. Gooooo Terps!!!Gameplay When a ball carrier dishes out a stiff-arm, you can see him give a shove while having his footwork shifted just as it would happen on the field. You have to see it to appreciate that nice tough. Also, on the play selection screen, you can select "Ask Korso" to have Lee Korso advise a good play to run. You can tell he was a passionate College coach as he talks up each play.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member.
