Sound

The sound is probably some of the best. When the players enter the crowd goes wild, and it seems like you are actually there. The helmets colliding is great. It actually sounds like your there. Then the commentators are great. There are so many things said, and it never gets old. I like how they are only there on televised games, and you get the normal PA at the field during your non-televised games. This games sound is by far the best, the only thing is the players should kinda talk with each other on the lines. I know when I play, my coach has me call help, or X or something. Me and my guard usually kinda point more often to who we block, also sometimes lying, confusing the defense, but thats only a suggesting to make this game the best.

Gameplay

The first time I played this, I found it very easy to just start right up and play. The players movements are awesome, with the spins and stiff arms and hurdles. The QB can throw and scramble, and just do it all. The only flaw, I think, is that it is too easy to spin out of tackles and stiff arm people. I created a 5'8 running back who is stiff arming and spinning and breaking just about every tackle, but that's ok, just as long as its for me. Also play a mascot game. Most of the mascots don't wear helmets. I've got a few face masking calls there too, but everything else in the game is awesome, you get stellar blocking on returns, and even interceptions. I've noticed that as soon as your team intercepts it, they start to block. I also like the laterals. I do it almost too much, but its just great. The plays are also very detailed and the O-line pushes the defense back amazingly. The AI is great too. The defense can sniff out a reverse, or get behind the line on a great blitz play.

Sound

Top notch. The bands play the school fight songs, the stadium announcer is detailed and the play by play is excellent.

Gameplay

You can play in Dynasty mode, season, or exibition, like most other football games. You can create a team, edit the colors, and the stadium. You can create and delete players.
In Dynasty you can redshirt and recruit players.
In game play feels very real. The ball may bounce around and someone can dive and catch it. In one play my receiver had the ball bounce off him, then he came back and caught it. I really got into the game even though it can take an hour per game.
If you run a play too much, the defense crushes it. You can lateral, the QB can scramble with the touch of a button, you don't have to save the profile and user settings separately as in Madden.
I have not recruited players, but it sounds a lot like Front Office Football The College Years, and that was very interesting. I've played only 3 games, but they have been challenging and dramatic. As Iowa State, I got schooled by Florida State and then crushed Kansas and then barely beat a 1AA team 25-24. Thank goodness I went for that two point conversion...
The comp scoring may be a little high sometimes in sim mode, but then again maybe Miami can score 97 points...The next week they only scored 17 against a ranked team.
This is the first football game I have enjoyed since Sierra's FPS football for the PC back in 94. When you're on defense, you can tell when you're being blocked and when the offensive lineman is driving you backwards. You don't have half the defensive players lying on the ground at the end of the play like in past Madden games. And there are actually holes you can see so you can run the ball. I used to have to let the computer run for me in other games.
You can also export the draft to Madden 2003.
The mascot game pits 11 of your school's mascot against 11 of the opposing school's mascot. It's hilarious to watch.

Summary

Finally a college football game hits a Nintendo platform, and EA sports did a great job with this game. Fortunately, they did not cut GC owners short like other popular sports titles have done in the past (such as NBA 2k2). This game is simply awesome...extremely in-depth, and great gameplay.

The Dynasty mode is obviously the biggie in this game, and so far it has been great. You pick a current team, or create one to replace one of the current teams, which I did. You create nearly every last detail of your team, from uniform, to offensive scheme, to power level of the school (ex- Juggernaut, Middle of the Road, Cupcake). You can even select from a ton of fight songs and create your stadium. Once you are done, the game generates players based on the level you picked for your team. During your Dynasty season, you can redshirt players, and customize all of your non-conference games before you begin play. Once you've done that, you start playing. One of the best features in the Dynasty is the Coach Contract, in which it gives you incentives that you have to meet in order to keep your job...something that is greaty appreciated after years of Madden not knowing how close you are to being fired. Now you know and can expect when you will get the ax. For example, my 'Middle of the Road' team is expected to meet the following requirements after 3 seasons: 2/3 Top 25, 1 Conference Championship, or 1 National Championship.

Recruiting is probably my favorite part of this game. During the off-season, you evaluate your team just as real college teams do. You then go through the recruiting process, and can choose to go after prospects from any state, any position...including Top 100, In-state prospects, and Interested prospects. Of course you can only go after so many, as you have a certain amount of points each of the 5 weeks, and the further away and less interested they are, the more points it will cost you. Players pick your school based on how prestigous it is and location is usually important. You must be careful how you spread points though, as your roster will be filled with terrible walk-ons if you have any holes.

There are a few other modes, including Practice and Mascot Games, but the Dynasty mode alone is enough to buy this game.

Sound

I have no problem with the sound at all. This is the first NCAA game I've ever owned, so the bands playing was a great new feature to me. The crowd seemed the same as always, so if that didn't get you excited than the fight songs should. The menu music was fine...as long as its not annoying, it doesn't bother me at all.

Note to Mark-- Perhaps you should've tried going to settings and turning the crowd volume all the way up if it is that important to you. The prestige of your team also takes a toll on the crowd volume (if your team sucks, there won't be as many people there).

Gameplay

The controls are very nice in this game...very similar to what Madden uses. One addition is the lateral/pitch Z button, which is primarily used for running options. There are really no major drawbacks to the play. The revamped juke and spin moves over the last few EA football games are very helpful...the juke button is pressure sensitive, so you can go for a quick juke or an all-or-nothing juke. When doing a spin move, the player won't always spin the same way on either side of the field. The running game will depend on the talent you have on the O-line and your RB, just as it does in real-life. In my first season, my 86 overall HB ran for over 1000 yards. After losing 4 out of 5 starting O-Lineman, he barely cracked 600 the next year. The passing game is also very nice, provided that you have a good-armed QB and WR's with good hands.

Defense is a bit tougher, especially if you try to always be around the ball. If you start out trying to rush the QB, then switch to a DB after the pass is thrown, it can be quite challenging and often give up big plays. But, you can also come up with timely interceptions, something the CPU doesn't do all that often.

All in all, the gameplay is top notch.
