Product Description

Sound

Sound was definantly the best part of GTA3. There were no issues about sound from anyone, and believe it or not, sound is improved upon! Over 8,000 voices, main character can now talk, famous actors have voice roles (try to figure out whos who). Radio Stations are hilarious and set the tone nicely. You will never get bored listening to GTA:VC.

Gameplay

Everything that was wrong with the gameplay in GTA3 (whatever that was) is fixed. The targeting system has been improved dramatically, now giving you an over the shoulder view and aims at important characters such as the gang member shooting at you rather than the grandma on the bench, meaning it is priority based, which is extremely usefull and a welcomed improvement. Your character can also perform many new moves including diving from moving vehicles and crouching (useful in firefights). All new vehicles handle nicely, well, unless your tires are shot out, and the motorcycles are incredibly fun to ride and extremely useful at times. The story is much better than GTA3's and the boring missions are all but gone, all of them are much more involved. More weapons also for you gun freaks out there, and you can now beat the crap outta cars with a bat! Yea! If you can think of an element of gameplay in GTA3, its been improved upon in GTA:VC, I'm not going to spoil the surprises that you will surely encounter and enjoy.

Summary

My initial impression of grand theft auto vice city is one of disappointment. The game plays exactly like its predeccesor and the game provides more but utimately fails to innovate. However, the more I played it the better it got. As the game progresses one can easily see that this is the playstation 2's best game and a defining moment in gaming history. Grand theft Auto Vice City is a keeper. However, all is not perfect which reflects the score. The problem with grand theft auto vice city is it's loose control. It should have been based on an actual physics system which gave the cars some weight. The feel is too arcadey. While the targeting system has been improved quiet a bit the camera is still drunk. Also the AI is a bit on the stupid side. The actual mission structure provides great variety but same missions are plain boring and stick out like sore thumbs next to some of the better missions. Grand THeft Auto's missions lack consistency as those missions based on trial and error are frustrating exercises in gameplay and others are too easy. Perhaps the biggest disappointment is that the game can be completed in less than 10 hours if you're hardcore. However, if you become bored you can easily check out the strip clubs, deliver pizza, or go on a murderous rampage. In fact, not participating in the missions is actually a lot funner than playing the missions. Many will be surprised at my overall score, but my standards for this new grand theft auto game were ridiculously high. While it failed to live up to my expectations, it's still game of the year. That was a no brainer.

Summary

Its finally here and its about time after seeing all the pictures and trailers its was a long wait, and well worth it. The game is incredible gamers will be playing this game for a while. The entire game is gigantic you'll be roming around vice city for months and you'll probably won't be getting tired of it either. As soon as you play the game you'll notice the improvements on the graphics and the main character, he actually talks now. I think Rockstar took some elements and characters from gangster movie like Scarface, Carlito's Way, and others. In the beginning of the game one character looks just the lawyer from Carlito's Way. Anyway go get this game, if don't have a ps2 go buy one, if you only have a XBOX or Gamecube trade that in with the games and get a PS2 with Vice City. Vice City is bigger, prettier and better than GTA3, but Grand Thef Auto 3 in my mind still the best game of all time.

Sound

The sound quality is about the same as before but there is a DTS 5.1 track which is great (because I have DTS surround sound in my living room). The funny radio stations are back giving life to the city. More talk shows and the great, or not so great music of the 80's, depending if you like that or not.

Gameplay

The gameplay is really about the same as GTA3. A few suttle improvements have benefited this game though. For starters, aiming is alot easier this time around. Smashing cars is great as is shooting car tires. You can also shoot out of your car while driving. The framerate is at a good rate even while alot is going on but rarely is there slowdown (only because of an insane amount of things going on, like a fivestar police chase, hehe). Even then it is still ok. There are many cars to jack also, along with four motor bikes, the moped is funny.

Sound

Everything from the low thunderous rumbling of those old sedan engines to the high picthed whailing of the PCJ600 crotch-rocket has been done very well.

The radio stations featuring not only original music and talk stations but classic 80s songs written by people like Michael Jackson and The Crew all add to the atmosphere of the game bringing it to life.

Tommy also says a variety of funny and surprising things during the game which adds even more to the overall score.

I'd give GTAVC a 6 here if I could, I guess I'll just have to settle for a 5.

Gameplay

The gameplay is virtually the same as in GTA3 with the addition of a few tweaks in the targeting system and added moves for your character. This can be an advantage or disadvantage depending on the person. Some might say that nothing really was changed, but I look at it as, "If it's not broken, why fix it?"

It's not like R* didn't add anything new to the controls anyways. Your character can now do such things as duck and dive out of moving vehicles (one of the best added features IMHO), not to mention the targeting system has been revamped to aim at the most dangerous threats to you first.

Even though the AI hasn't been dramtically improved, it is definitely an improvement from GTA3. Pedestrians now frequently walk up to each other and start up conversations or sit down when they feel tired. After only played for a few hours, I've already seen cops chase down thugs on foot numerous times.

After only completed about 10 or 15 missions, I've already hacked people to bits with a chain saw, ran down a rich brat in a golf cart, strafed a thug hideout with a machine gun on a helicopter, flown a remote-control helicopter to deliver explosives, and provided sniper cover for a drug deal to name a few. This proves that mission variety and depth has been substantially increased from GTA3's mission pack.

This game is definitely a must buy.

Summary

Grand THeft Auto VIce is more like an add on to grand theft auto then a sequel to the greatest game of all time. The game seems to be created by grand theft auto fans rather than the actual developer. It's a shame considering the hype around the release. This is the biggest letdown of the year. The actual gameplay remains untouched. Instead rockstar has gone the extra mile to introduce more filth and gruesome violence instead of innovation. THe focus is on more of the same except in larger doses. More scantily clad women, more stereotypical characters, more cheesy side quests(deliver pizzas), more vehicles, more radio stations, more professional voice acting, and lastly more violence. NOTHING IS NEW! NOTHING! The level structure is exactly the same. The physics is virtually identical. The camera is drunker than homer simpson. Picture Grand THeft Auto 3 without any innovations and you'll have vice city. It seems that Grand THeft Auto 3 should be the sequel to VIce City. Not Vice Versa. Game of the year? ALL Fooyee!!! Wait for SONY's GETAWAY!

Summary

Last night, on Oct. 28, 2002, I called up my local game store. I asked them, "will you guys have unreserved copies of Vice City available tomorrow. They said, "we will close at 8pm and reopen at 11:30pm so come on down. I was tempted to go at first but, as soon as he told me that they will be open today at 7am, I said to myself, "cool". When i got there earlier today, the owner told me that 150 customers showed up just to pick up Grand Theft. Luckily, I managed to get my copy. Trust me on this people, this game is one of the best games I have ever played in my entire life! Im a 31 year old gamer. I played the best games. Super Metroid, Final Fantasy tatics, Metal Gear Solid, Doom, Rogue Spear, the list goes on and on. Grand Theft 3 and Vice City are also on that list. I called in sick today just to play this fantasic game! Warning: if you're not into violent games, stay away from this one. If you can handle the profanity and the insanity, may I welcome you to Vice City.

Sound

Vice City has the best soundtrack handsdown! My favorite thing to do in this game is to drive around while switching from one radio station to another. I simply love that idea to death! Hip hop, rock, latin, its all here. If you don't have this game in your house right now, what are you waiting for?? Im tired of typing. Im going back to Vice City strapped.......

Gameplay

I played the game for about 3 hours so far. Vice City plays just like GTA3. You can car jack, take drugs, beat people up, hussle just to make money, etc. The freedom in this game is incredible. You can drive or walk anywhere. This game is huge!! You can even enter some of the buildings this time around. Nightclubs, strip clubs, bars, oh my. Did I mention that you can buy property in Vice City? I know what you're thinking. Beautiful, aint it? In GTA3, it was impossible to put bullet holes into someone's tires. You can do it in Vice City. Im packing my bags because I'm planning on moving there in about a week.

Sound

The sound... plain and simple one of the biggest improvements... the radio is great.. I only have played this game maybe a total of 10 hours.. maybe more, and have heard just a fraction of the radio. Growing up in the 80's and graduating HS in the 80's I flashback hearing the music, seeing the fashions and the lingo. Plus as mentioned above, the main character getting a voice (ray liotta none the less) is huge.. and they do a great job with all of the characters I have encountered to this point.

Gameplay

The gameplay is great, something that I noticed from GTA3 to GTAVC is that the cars handle a little loser on this version... some of the lower end cars are all over the road. And the map will take longer to get used to on this version than the previous version. I think the cut scenes in this game add a lot and that the main character has a voice will also be a treat for most players.

Summary

Rockstar has done it again, we have a winner folks. Although in the first ten minutes i was actually undecided whether i liked it or not after my excitement settled down was when i realized what an amazing game this is, when you first put this game in your adrenaline is going a mile a minute if your like me and have been waiting for this game. Like GTA 3 you have full freedom and when i first was let loose in the city i didnt know what to do first. I love the fact that you have a hotel room and can even buy property and mansions later on, new vehicles are a blast and graphics are a nice step up from GTA 3. Im 28 years old and grew up in the 80's so its really great hearing those songs and feeling like ive been takin back. Missions are fun and voice acting top notch. All in all you better grab this one before its too late because as a previous reviewer said this will be hard to find and when it is its gonna cost you an arm and a leg to get into VICE CITY.

Summary

GTA3 innovated what games might become and was definitly the game of the year. I preordered this game because I thought it would be unbelieveable. But to my surprise it wasn't. I mean it felt like the same game, played like the same game, everything was just like GTA3. I mean I played GTA3 to death so this game was just like it with just a new area. I mean I heard once you play it more it gets better I dont know. I mean dont get me wrong going into the buildings and stuff look good but it just isnt enough. After this 3 hours of playing it I know the next day I will play it. I just wont forget about it. But now I know why this game exploded so fast onto the scene. I think I expected too much of this game maybe. I just thought it was going to be crazy. I mean they didnt change like any of the fonts or hud displays, car physics are the same. After about 2 hours I was bored and kinda like depressed because of how this game was just GTA3 all over again. I suggest you pick up Mafia for the PC. That game really was incredible and definitly was a nice twist on a free-roaming experience. That game kicked ass. I mean if you never played GTA3 and then picked up this game you would probably think it is amazing. So hopefully I will suddenly like this game or if I give it a little more of a chance but when I first picked it up I was dissapointed.

Sound

I have no complaints about the sound in this game. The radio stations have actuall licensed 80's music, no made up stuff. I like the music in this game because it contains classic rock like ELO, Foreigner, etc.
The engines soud great. Some of the sounds are brought from GTA3, such as the Cheeta, Infernus, and Banshee.

Gameplay

The gameplay of GTA:VC is alot like GTA3. It has the EXACT same controls. But it is alot better. The driving physics are a little better and you can even drive motorcycles, mopeds, golfcarts, a plane (it actually has wings:-), helicopters, and way more boats.
I haven't really gotten into the missions yet, but from what I have played, the missions are more detailed. You have to do more than just one thing.
You can go in alot of buildings in this game also. You can go in clothing stores, food stores, and, of course, ammunation.

Summary

Well, the masterminds at Rockstar North have done it again. There was much pressure on Rockstar in order to surpass last years Game of the Year, Grand theft Auto III. Although many aspects have been added or changed the gameplay remains the same. The story revolves around our new hero, Tommy Vercetti. After serveing time for the mob he is rewarded with a little trip to Vice City. He was sent to expand the Forelli's business but he ends up getting screwed on his first job. In order to get the missing money Tommy will have to mingle with Vice City's corrupt. Tommy will have to steal, hustle, and kill to get to the top. Let the fun begin. Gameplay: What can I say other than excellent. No major changes but new as situations will easily make this game of the year. More vehicles. More weapons. More Fun. Additions to the game involve: shooting tires out to stop an enemy in his tracks, choosing your hideout from apartment buildings to million dollar mansions, indoor missions, and many more... but the one everyone seems to have the most fun with, the motorcycle. It has the ability to weave in and out of traffic helping you avoid the police. Speaking of police, the A.I. seems to have no mercy this time around. And to make things worse for poor Tommy, S.W.A.T. teams can and will propel down helicopters just to slam slugs in your head. Yet the ability to change clothes can throw the pigs off your track.
Graphics: While they are better than last years GTAIII I know the PS2 is still capable of more(ex. Getaway) but then againg look at all the information crammed on that disc.
Sound: This sound track is off the hook. For those games who were around in the 80's they will have fun living up the old days. When Michael Jackson was still black, disco was in, and rap was making way for today's legends.
