Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for PlayStation 2 Videos >>
Summary Set in the 1980's, GTA:VC improves upon GTA3 in every category imaginable making it a must have for anyone that even considers themselves a gamer, casual or hardcore. Get it as fast as you can, and as soon as you can, it's well worth you 50 simolians and is most likely the game of the year 2002.Sound Sound was definantly the best part of GTA3. There were no issues about sound from anyone, and believe it or not, sound is improved upon! Over 8,000 voices, main character can now talk, famous actors have voice roles (try to figure out whos who). Radio Stations are hilarious and set the tone nicely. You will never get bored listening to GTA:VC.Gameplay Everything that was wrong with the gameplay in GTA3 (whatever that was) is fixed. The targeting system has been improved dramatically, now giving you an over the shoulder view and aims at important characters such as the gang member shooting at you rather than the grandma on the bench, meaning it is priority based, which is extremely usefull and a welcomed improvement. Your character can also perform many new moves including diving from moving vehicles and crouching (useful in firefights). All new vehicles handle nicely, well, unless your tires are shot out, and the motorcycles are incredibly fun to ride and extremely useful at times. The story is much better than GTA3's and the boring missions are all but gone, all of them are much more involved. More weapons also for you gun freaks out there, and you can now beat the crap outta cars with a bat! Yea! If you can think of an element of gameplay in GTA3, its been improved upon in GTA:VC, I'm not going to spoil the surprises that you will surely encounter and enjoy.Would you like to Comment? Summary Let's just say this, friend at a local video game store let me pick up GTA:VC a day early and I am now sitting at work in a daze, due to a lack of sleep. I don't think I've played through the night on a game since the first Zelda. This game is everything is was hyped to be. Smooth, violent, funny and highly addictive. Honestly, this is one of those games like Mario World for the 64 or Goldeneye. It's the next big one. (If you have kids under 17, keep them miles from this one, it's rated way past M)Sound Few games, by sound alone, are able to make me laugh out loud. Don't worry, Lazlow has his show and the commercials are as creative as ever. Best of all, Rockstar went out and purchased the rights to some of the most hiddeous 80's songs out there. There is something special about mowing down a crowd of people listening to "Die in your arms tonight" by the Cutting Crew.Gameplay As you've already read, any little problem that GTA3 had has been fixed and added upon. The aiming system is nearly perfect and the options availible for a player have been tripled. The ability to crouch and dive also makes firefights a lot more fun.Would you like to Comment? The game plays exactly like its predeccesor and the game provides more but utimately fails to innovate. However, the more I played it the better it got. As the game progresses one can easily see that this is the playstation 2's best game and a defining moment in gaming history. Grand theft Auto Vice City is a keeper. However, all is not perfect which reflects the score. The problem with grand theft auto vice city is it's loose control. It should have been based on an actual physics system which gave the cars some weight. The feel is too arcadey. While the targeting system has been improved quiet a bit the camera is still drunk. Also the AI is a bit on the stupid side. The actual mission structure provides great variety but same missions are plain boring and stick out like sore thumbs next to some of the better missions. Grand THeft Auto's missions lack consistency as those missions based on trial and error are frustrating exercises in gameplay and others are too easy. Perhaps the biggest disappointment is that the game can be completed in less than 10 hours if you're hardcore. However, if you become bored you can easily check out the strip clubs, deliver pizza, or go on a murderous rampage. In fact, not participating in the missions is actually a lot funner than playing the missions. Many will be surprised at my overall score, but my standards for this new grand theft auto game were ridiculously high. While it failed to live up to my expectations, it's still game of the year. That was a no brainer.Sound Simply the best sounding game.Gameplay Extremely well conceived and brilliantly executed. However, the game fails to innovate. It's like grand theft auto 3 with a new gloss of paint. Not exactly a rehash, but almost.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Its finally here and its about time after seeing all the pictures and trailers its was a long wait, and well worth it. The game is incredible gamers will be playing this game for a while. The entire game is gigantic you'll be roming around vice city for months and you'll probably won't be getting tired of it either. As soon as you play the game you'll notice the improvements on the graphics and the main character, he actually talks now. I think Rockstar took some elements and characters from gangster movie like Scarface, Carlito's Way, and others. In the beginning of the game one character looks just the lawyer from Carlito's Way. Anyway go get this game, if don't have a ps2 go buy one, if you only have a XBOX or Gamecube trade that in with the games and get a PS2 with Vice City. Vice City is bigger, prettier and better than GTA3, but Grand Thef Auto 3 in my mind still the best game of all time.Sound The 80's music in the game puts the game over the top. Listening to Michael Jackson when he was actually black is great "Billy Jean" was a classic. Overall the sound of the game is still the same which is real good. The voice acting is top notch.Gameplay Its the same as first one with some new things to it. You can now actually destory a car with a bat and break windows. You can shoot cars in front of you while driving the motorcycle. The targeting system is ok now some people might like though. There is really nothing bad to say about the gameplay it plays very well. There's so many things you can do in this game its unbelieveable.Would you like to Comment? Stealing cars has never been more fun. With the inclusion of motorcycles is even better. You can get rid of those pesky cops by going through a narrow alley way. Insane jumps are also fun with motor bikes. This time the lead character has a voice (by Ray Liotta, awesome).Sound The sound quality is about the same as before but there is a DTS 5.1 track which is great (because I have DTS surround sound in my living room). The funny radio stations are back giving life to the city. More talk shows and the great, or not so great music of the 80's, depending if you like that or not.Gameplay The gameplay is really about the same as GTA3. A few suttle improvements have benefited this game though. For starters, aiming is alot easier this time around. Smashing cars is great as is shooting car tires. You can also shoot out of your car while driving. The framerate is at a good rate even while alot is going on but rarely is there slowdown (only because of an insane amount of things going on, like a fivestar police chase, hehe). Even then it is still ok. There are many cars to jack also, along with four motor bikes, the moped is funny.Would you like to Comment? Summary The highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto Vice City has finally hit the shelves of most game retailers in the U.S.The storyline of GTAVC places you (Tommy) in the late 80s admist a city full of corrupt officals, gangs, and hustlers. This might sound very familiar to GTA3, but the difference this time is you're now in a city with plenty of neon lights, an expanded arsenal of weapons, and a plethora of vehicles to choose from; not to mention the addition of more sun, fun, and babes wrapped in a nice little package. After playing this game for only a few hours, I see now how so many are calling this the game of the year. Sound Everything from the low thunderous rumbling of those old sedan engines to the high picthed whailing of the PCJ600 crotch-rocket has been done very well. The radio stations featuring not only original music and talk stations but classic 80s songs written by people like Michael Jackson and The Crew all add to the atmosphere of the game bringing it to life. Tommy also says a variety of funny and surprising things during the game which adds even more to the overall score. I'd give GTAVC a 6 here if I could, I guess I'll just have to settle for a 5. Gameplay The gameplay is virtually the same as in GTA3 with the addition of a few tweaks in the targeting system and added moves for your character. This can be an advantage or disadvantage depending on the person. Some might say that nothing really was changed, but I look at it as, "If it's not broken, why fix it?"It's not like R* didn't add anything new to the controls anyways. Your character can now do such things as duck and dive out of moving vehicles (one of the best added features IMHO), not to mention the targeting system has been revamped to aim at the most dangerous threats to you first. Even though the AI hasn't been dramtically improved, it is definitely an improvement from GTA3. Pedestrians now frequently walk up to each other and start up conversations or sit down when they feel tired. After only played for a few hours, I've already seen cops chase down thugs on foot numerous times. After only completed about 10 or 15 missions, I've already hacked people to bits with a chain saw, ran down a rich brat in a golf cart, strafed a thug hideout with a machine gun on a helicopter, flown a remote-control helicopter to deliver explosives, and provided sniper cover for a drug deal to name a few. This proves that mission variety and depth has been substantially increased from GTA3's mission pack. This game is definitely a must buy. Would you like to Comment? The game seems to be created by grand theft auto fans rather than the actual developer. It's a shame considering the hype around the release. This is the biggest letdown of the year. The actual gameplay remains untouched. Instead rockstar has gone the extra mile to introduce more filth and gruesome violence instead of innovation. THe focus is on more of the same except in larger doses. More scantily clad women, more stereotypical characters, more cheesy side quests(deliver pizzas), more vehicles, more radio stations, more professional voice acting, and lastly more violence. NOTHING IS NEW! NOTHING! The level structure is exactly the same. The physics is virtually identical. The camera is drunker than homer simpson. Picture Grand THeft Auto 3 without any innovations and you'll have vice city. It seems that Grand THeft Auto 3 should be the sequel to VIce City. Not Vice Versa. Game of the year? ALL Fooyee!!! Wait for SONY's GETAWAY!Sound Nothing to complain about.Gameplay Essentially a rehash of last year's incredible game. Dma design focused to much on added more instead of the basics. As a result, missions are drawn out too much and lack objectivity. It's not terrible but not great.Would you like to Comment? Summary Ok, I held out with my Dreamcast and was recently debating between PS2 and Xbox.. found out about Vice City and the choice was clear. Was it worth getting the PS2 so I could play Vice City (and a select few others)? HECK YEAH! Vice City is like GTA3, only better.. and more.. and bigger.. and more fun. It's kind of like how GTA2 was different from GTA1.. the formula for the gameplay worked, so they just added on to it.Sound Sounds is great, especially with gunshots all around you. :) The music is good to, it's nice that there are 'real' songs on there now.. even if they are from the 80s, reminded me of high school. :)Gameplay Everything I wanted to do in GTA3, I can now do in Vice City.. fly planes, helocopters, go in to buildings, smash cars with a bat, blow out tires, hack up people with a chainsaw and run people over with a golf cart. :) The targeting is MUCH better (one of the things I didn't like about GTA3) and the moves are improved to! The controls are pretty much the same as GTA3 so you can jump right in to the game.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I am a big fan of the GTA series, and I think that this is a keeper. However, I was disapointed when I first started playing because it felt like GTA3 gone to Miami. But after playing for a while, I knew that this was a different game. It felt better than GTA3 and with more weapons, vehicles and better graphics and voice acting, GTAVC goes down in my book as the current best game on the PS2.Sound The Sound is great. No complaints.Gameplay The Gameplay does feel like GTA3, but what did you really expect? I personally like the gameplay of the GTA3, though it did have some flaws, and thankfully, those have been addressed. Don't see GTAVC as a totally different game from the series. It feels like playing GTA3, only much better.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary You are put in Vice city and do the exact same things as you did in GTA3.Sound The sound is fine although there arent as many side comments by pedestrians wich is kind of a draw back.Gameplay If you like the gameplay of GtA3 then you will like the gameplay of Vice City. The controlls are the exact same. One drawback I have is that the game is the the third one just in a different city. But if you have the money go ahead and buy it. Just after playing Vice you may be tempted to but in the third one after a little while, if you catch my driftWould you like to Comment? Summary Last night, on Oct. 28, 2002, I called up my local game store. I asked them, "will you guys have unreserved copies of Vice City available tomorrow. They said, "we will close at 8pm and reopen at 11:30pm so come on down. I was tempted to go at first but, as soon as he told me that they will be open today at 7am, I said to myself, "cool". When i got there earlier today, the owner told me that 150 customers showed up just to pick up Grand Theft. Luckily, I managed to get my copy. Trust me on this people, this game is one of the best games I have ever played in my entire life! Im a 31 year old gamer. I played the best games. Super Metroid, Final Fantasy tatics, Metal Gear Solid, Doom, Rogue Spear, the list goes on and on. Grand Theft 3 and Vice City are also on that list. I called in sick today just to play this fantasic game! Warning: if you're not into violent games, stay away from this one. If you can handle the profanity and the insanity, may I welcome you to Vice City.Sound Vice City has the best soundtrack handsdown! My favorite thing to do in this game is to drive around while switching from one radio station to another. I simply love that idea to death! Hip hop, rock, latin, its all here. If you don't have this game in your house right now, what are you waiting for?? Im tired of typing. Im going back to Vice City strapped.......Gameplay I played the game for about 3 hours so far. Vice City plays just like GTA3. You can car jack, take drugs, beat people up, hussle just to make money, etc. The freedom in this game is incredible. You can drive or walk anywhere. This game is huge!! You can even enter some of the buildings this time around. Nightclubs, strip clubs, bars, oh my. Did I mention that you can buy property in Vice City? I know what you're thinking. Beautiful, aint it? In GTA3, it was impossible to put bullet holes into someone's tires. You can do it in Vice City. Im packing my bags because I'm planning on moving there in about a week.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary This is the best game out siting right next to GTA 3,another amazing game by rockstar.Everything about this game is just perfect.I got it todsay and this is the first time i have left it since i bought it.My advice to anyone is to leave your computer and get it as fast as you can before its to late.Like last year around christmas people were paying over $150 for this game.Don't be caught up with those people again.Sound I am very happy with the music. It has more radio stations and the music sounds good for me and i have no sound system hooked up to it.This is a terific game.Gameplay The game play is well thought and like GTA 3 but 10 times better.I have heard some people saying it will be the same as GTA 3 but it is definetly better. The cars are awesome and i love the moter cyles and mopeds. The misions are fun and exiting. You can go into the clubs as well as many other places, fly a helecopter, and just enjoy pure freedom!Would you like to Comment? Summary Managed to get my hands on the game Tuesday night around 11:45 pm.. they were supposed to get in around 9pm, but didnt make it.. but thats not important. This game is great... everything that I could have hoped for and more.Sound The sound... plain and simple one of the biggest improvements... the radio is great.. I only have played this game maybe a total of 10 hours.. maybe more, and have heard just a fraction of the radio. Growing up in the 80's and graduating HS in the 80's I flashback hearing the music, seeing the fashions and the lingo. Plus as mentioned above, the main character getting a voice (ray liotta none the less) is huge.. and they do a great job with all of the characters I have encountered to this point.Gameplay The gameplay is great, something that I noticed from GTA3 to GTAVC is that the cars handle a little loser on this version... some of the lower end cars are all over the road. And the map will take longer to get used to on this version than the previous version. I think the cut scenes in this game add a lot and that the main character has a voice will also be a treat for most players.Would you like to Comment? Although in the first ten minutes i was actually undecided whether i liked it or not after my excitement settled down was when i realized what an amazing game this is, when you first put this game in your adrenaline is going a mile a minute if your like me and have been waiting for this game. Like GTA 3 you have full freedom and when i first was let loose in the city i didnt know what to do first. I love the fact that you have a hotel room and can even buy property and mansions later on, new vehicles are a blast and graphics are a nice step up from GTA 3. Im 28 years old and grew up in the 80's so its really great hearing those songs and feeling like ive been takin back. Missions are fun and voice acting top notch. All in all you better grab this one before its too late because as a previous reviewer said this will be hard to find and when it is its gonna cost you an arm and a leg to get into VICE CITY.Sound Sound fits the game and sets the mood well.Gameplay Plays like GTA 3 which is goodWould you like to Comment? I preordered this game because I thought it would be unbelieveable. But to my surprise it wasn't. I mean it felt like the same game, played like the same game, everything was just like GTA3. I mean I played GTA3 to death so this game was just like it with just a new area. I mean I heard once you play it more it gets better I dont know. I mean dont get me wrong going into the buildings and stuff look good but it just isnt enough. After this 3 hours of playing it I know the next day I will play it. I just wont forget about it. But now I know why this game exploded so fast onto the scene. I think I expected too much of this game maybe. I just thought it was going to be crazy. I mean they didnt change like any of the fonts or hud displays, car physics are the same. After about 2 hours I was bored and kinda like depressed because of how this game was just GTA3 all over again. I suggest you pick up Mafia for the PC. That game really was incredible and definitly was a nice twist on a free-roaming experience. That game kicked ass. I mean if you never played GTA3 and then picked up this game you would probably think it is amazing. So hopefully I will suddenly like this game or if I give it a little more of a chance but when I first picked it up I was dissapointed.Sound You can't diss the sound. Awesome radio stations all Epic artists. Plus Lazlo is back.Gameplay Everything is the same as in GTA3. Only now you can go into buldings and such. Very cool but I dont think enough to keep us satisfied.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary First of all, I am a big fan of GTA3 and obviously couldn't wait to get my hands on the newest Grand Theft Auto game.My initial impression of the game is that it was alot like GTA3, with a few tweaks. That was until I actually started PLAYING the game. This game is awesome! If you just take one look at it and think it is alot like GTA3, look again! This game has a total of aroud 40 weapons, almost all are new, and about 110 vehicles, most of which are new. Sound I have no complaints about the sound in this game. The radio stations have actuall licensed 80's music, no made up stuff. I like the music in this game because it contains classic rock like ELO, Foreigner, etc.The engines soud great. Some of the sounds are brought from GTA3, such as the Cheeta, Infernus, and Banshee. Gameplay The gameplay of GTA:VC is alot like GTA3. It has the EXACT same controls. But it is alot better. The driving physics are a little better and you can even drive motorcycles, mopeds, golfcarts, a plane (it actually has wings:-), helicopters, and way more boats.I haven't really gotten into the missions yet, but from what I have played, the missions are more detailed. You have to do more than just one thing. You can go in alot of buildings in this game also. You can go in clothing stores, food stores, and, of course, ammunation. Would you like to Comment? The songs on here can from the 80's. you can be driving a car and a song will come on and you know all of the words to it. it is great.Gameplay the gameplay is great. it is just like gta 3 so you know how to do everything.Would you like to Comment? Summary Well, the masterminds at Rockstar North have done it again. There was much pressure on Rockstar in order to surpass last years Game of the Year, Grand theft Auto III. Although many aspects have been added or changed the gameplay remains the same. The story revolves around our new hero, Tommy Vercetti. After serveing time for the mob he is rewarded with a little trip to Vice City. He was sent to expand the Forelli's business but he ends up getting screwed on his first job. In order to get the missing money Tommy will have to mingle with Vice City's corrupt. Tommy will have to steal, hustle, and kill to get to the top. Let the fun begin. Gameplay: What can I say other than excellent. No major changes but new as situations will easily make this game of the year. More vehicles. More weapons. More Fun. Additions to the game involve: shooting tires out to stop an enemy in his tracks, choosing your hideout from apartment buildings to million dollar mansions, indoor missions, and many more... but the one everyone seems to have the most fun with, the motorcycle. It has the ability to weave in and out of traffic helping you avoid the police. Speaking of police, the A.I. seems to have no mercy this time around. And to make things worse for poor Tommy, S.W.A.T. teams can and will propel down helicopters just to slam slugs in your head. Yet the ability to change clothes can throw the pigs off your track.Graphics: While they are better than last years GTAIII I know the PS2 is still capable of more(ex. Getaway) but then againg look at all the information crammed on that disc. Sound: This sound track is off the hook. For those games who were around in the 80's they will have fun living up the old days. When Michael Jackson was still black, disco was in, and rap was making way for today's legends.
