Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 for GameCube Videos >>
Summary I've now found one of my favorite games of all time. I was hesitant at first to buy THPS4 despite the rave reviews it was getting. Never really being a huge sports fan I couldn't see myself enjoying a skateboarding game, was I wrong. Thankfully I made the leap of faith and bought a used copy. Don't be frightened by the skating aspect of THPS 4, even if you sincerely despise sports games for consoles you will enjoy THPS 4. I don't even consider it a skating game, it's more like an adventure game with skating in it.Sound When I first listened to the sound track I thought that it could never top off the past THPS's, which I had loved. But the songs have the ability to grow on you. Within about 5 hours of playing the game I was in love with the songs. The play list is absolutely enormous (probably around 30-40 songs) and features popular bands which range any where from rap to metal. As usual sound effects are high quality and top notch.Gameplay Mindblowing. The developers have taken everything from the previous THPS's and improved on it. You are no longer limited to a time period and are allowed to explore the levels at your own pace. It now features a linear mission system where you can play each level for any amount of time and get missions from characters placed throughout the level. It doesn't matter if you have played every THPS from the past, this one offers a new experience like never before. They developers were relentless in adding a brain numbingly massive amount of gameplay elements and features. I would wager that THPS 4 has a near endless replayability factor. Each map is enormous (probably 3-4 times as big as any other level in the series) and has a total of 21 missions in them. There are nine maps (2 are bonus) which amounts as 189 missions!Expect unique scripted events in certain missions (I won't spoil it for anyone). Adding even more to the replayibility factor of the game are the hidden characters, tricks, gaps, and more. Very impressive work Neversoft, you have done it again. Would you like to Comment? Summary This game is awesome. I recommend it to anyone who can afford it, whether you like skateboarding or not. It uses seven blocks of memory.Sound The sound effects are o.k. There's nothing special about them, but the best thing about the sound is the music. The music is awesome. If nothing else, buy this game for the music. There is both rock and rap, so there will always be some music on here that you like. You can even turn off all of the songs that you don't like.Overall, this is an excellent game. I can't think of a single significant complaint about it. Even if you don't care about skateboarding, get it anyway. You won't regret it. Gameplay Gameplay has been improved somewhat. There are more tricks and the levels seem to be a little bigger than in THPS3. Not having a time limit until you start one of the goals is great, because it gives you a much higher level of freedom. You also don't have to beat the game with every single character. I just wish that there were more skaters to unlock. A four person multiplayer would also help.Would you like to Comment? The first being that its on a new console, it has better graphics,it has more space for features like bigger levels. It really tops of the tony hawks games. I belive it won't be the last. This game is amazing.Sound The sound is great. Now it appeals to me because im a punk rock fan so im like this kind of music. To pop fans i dont think it would really appeal to them. There are R&B songs and rap. There are no really popular songs in terms of pop but on the rock side there are bands like Less Than Jake, Goldfingure etc. I think its the best sound track yet. There are over a hundred songs to choose from so there should be something for everyone. The voices that you hear the other skaters say are really ther voices.for example when mat hoffman shouts you over its really his voice.Gameplay he gameplay is very addictive but can become stressful at times so dont play on it for too long. I would recomend about 4-5 hours a day.(have plenty of breaks). The levels start of fairly easy and you can practice tricks because there is no time limit on the career mode. This element of freedom makes you fell like your actually skating. There are other skaters,BMX and bladrs all riding about with you which is one of the first things i noticed when i first played the game. There are lots of levels (two of them you have to buy) and they are massive. Now the levels are big and not just area wise but they are higher meaning you can go for example on alcatraz level that you can go about 4 floors up and jump to the bottom. The lines on each level are kool because now your combos will reach very high scores. The tasks on each level incluse thing like the collect skate from the old skool tony hawks games to new like photo shoots and help the prioners escape. You can also buy cheats, characters, levels and boards. On this game you have to earn your stat points by completeing tasks. You can make your own park and the create a skater mode is on this as well. Each career is differnt in that some of the tasks change.I recomend this game to anyone.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Im tired of the same game alreadySound The sound is not as good as THPS1 and 2, but better than THPS3. Effects are ok as well. All in all, this game is fun for about 2 days then you just want to trade it in and get Evolution Skateboarding after you will say EVO Skate sucks. So if you are going to buy it just stick with it and after a week you would possibly want to play it again. If I was you I would only rent this game. Go out and buy Kelly Slaters Pro Surfer or Velocity X. You will thank me later that I reviewed this game. Gameplay A REMAKE OF THPS3 but with better levels and more of a trick system. If you like the 3rd title for the series then you might want to buy it. I personaly think Kelly Slaters Pro Surfer is better but, in the skate department this game rocks! I have only one problem with this title. LASTABILITY!!!! You will get bored of skating around and doing tricks, and eventually you will just throw the game case down because it is so so so so BORING... Its the same as THPS3.Would you like to Comment? Review Date 04/14/2003 Overall Rating ![]() 4 of 5 Rate this review? Summary Now, you might think this: Oh, it's another boring Tony Hawks game, lets all go and buy it, who-who! But, despite all of that, this is one rad game! From the new tricks, to the new soundtracks. This game has everything that you can shake a stick at for a skating game. All of your fave skaters from numbers 1, 2, &3 are back: Tony Hawk, Bam Margera, Bob Burnquist, Steve Caballero, Rodney Mullen, and others, with all of the skater's companies: Birdhouse, DC, Etnies, and many more. The skaters have all of their specials, and they have their unique skating style. Activision O2 really have done a great job!Sound The new sounstracks are better than ever. The like's of AC/DC, System of a Down, Muskarade, Iron Maiden, Niggaz With Attitude, and much more great sounds to bump and grind with!Gameplay The gameplay is a new style from other Hawk games. Remember when you had to do loads of goals on just about 2 minutes a run? Well now, you don't have to. In every level, which includes the Death Row prison called Alcatraz, you get 21 goals buy pressing Y to talk to locals and other skaters. There's two secret levels to buy for 9,000 bucks, and four skaters to buy also. There's loads of other cool stuff like movies, cheats, and tricks that you can purchase as well.Would you like to Comment? Summary THPS4 is a really great skateboarding game. My altime favorite! Despite a few tiny flaws, this game is perfect. From the outstanding gameplay to the rad music{AC/DC Rules!} this game rocks!Sound I usually have the sound turned down, but when I do listen it sounds very realistic. Music is mostly rap with a little bit of heavy metal.Gameplay Gameplay is terrif. There are lots of different skaters to choose from. Unlike past Tony Hawk games, in THPS4 you don't get timed until you start a goal. To start a goal, you skate up to someone with a blue arrow over their head, and press X to talk to them. They will then share some dialogue with you and tell you what you must do. In must cases you will have 2:00 min. After you complete the goal you'll recieve $200. Ollie The Magic Bum is hilarious{He's a hobo}. Once you complete 90 goals, everyone's Pro Challenge is unlocked. Each skater's Pro Challenge is different. It is cool, because each Pro Challenge is based on something that skater actually did in real life! After you complete a skater's Pro Challenge, you will unlock a movie about them, and you will notice that some people in the levels will have red arrows over their heads. These people give you harder goals but more money when you complete them. To unlock a new level, you must finish a certain amount of goals on levels that are already unlocked. There are lots of ways to spend you're cash like buying new gear, skateboards, movies, secret characters, and secret levels.Would you like to Comment? Better than even THPS 3 (great game) It has extremely fun gameplay...Sound Eh... only downfall. not much here. all blah. only a few good ones..... Tony Hawk 3 had the BEST soundtrack..... c'mon! give me "Amoeba", "Not the Same", "N Pulse" and "Blitzkreig Bop" ...Sound is the same... good. Gameplay Pricelessly addictive. THPS4 can keep you glued no matter what... You can play for hours. Slick, smooth gameplay, tons of moves, with the awesome "revert", and the new "spine transfer" rules! There is 7 levels, 2 locked levels. My favs are Alacatraz, San Fran, Zoo, and College. Some objectives range from inline skating (hehe), collecting the C-O-M-B-O letters all in one combo, collecting pink floaty elephants for "Ollie The Bum", saving a painter from a shark, feeding sea lions, to collecting the familiar S-K-A-T-E letters, to destroing Elephant traps, to slalom racing, to skitching on an elephant's tail while it runs in circles for 30 seconds and poops! The gameplay is awesome, but the challenges SOMETIMES seem to be OVERLY Difficult... expect a lot of playing time. You can play as the cool secret character "Jango Fett" and earn more cash to buy more stuff! Gameplay is SOLID! you can even do goofy mini-games like playing Tennis and your skate-board is your racket! to playing baseball, with a ghost that thows you balls... swinging with your board, to betting on which rhinio (in zoo level) will knock out the other one.... fun!Would you like to Comment? I won't go into detail here, scroll down.Sound Sound is good and bad in a few ways. I like to hear all the different voices of the skaters, the people you meet (I find the british accents very entertaining) and also you even hear the distinct yells and bail cries of the different skaters in the game, that part really shook me. The bad thing. The music in this game...sucks. I'm sorry. I'm a fan of rock. I could only stand four songs out of the entire series of music showcased in this otherwise amazing game. They were Goldfinger, Offspring, Flogging Molly, and System of a Down. The other tracks made me want to hurl. So I turned them all of (I highly recommend doing this for all who agree with me about music choices.)Gameplay Gameplay is good. Nothing super special. Takes a little getting used to on Gamecube but once you get the hang of it, it works just as well as any other system if not better. Tricks are easy still, there are brand spanking new ones to which are a load of fun. The new characters are all classic, in the last game for some reason I was never excited when I used Darth Maul or Wolverine, but in this one the secret characters are bunches of fun, and their moves are very...unique. I've got no reason not to make it so, so gameplays probably as perfect as it always was.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Tony Hawks Pro Skater 4 is by far better than the first 3 titles of the series. Everything that was in THPS3 is in THPS4 but, with newer and better levels.Sound The sound is not as good as THPS1 and 2, but better than THPS3. Effects are ok as well. All in all, this game is fun for about 2 days then you just want to trade it in and get Evolution Skateboarding after you will say EVO Skate sucks. Summary This game is the best tony hawk yet by a long shot.Sound ok soundtrack, but they need to go back to more rock, i don't think alot of people who play this game wana listen to rap for every song. skaters voices are good.Gameplay The gameplay is awsome, with the new career mode I won't beable to beat this game in a week like i have all the other ones. I like not having a time limit at first it seemed like it would be to easy but its not you still only get 2 minutes to get your goal, and talking to the people especialy Bam (from jackass) is hilarious.Would you like to Comment? Summary This game is truly sweet. The Tony Hawk series hasn't failed me yet.Sound Ugh, this is prolly the only flaw. This soundtrack downright sucks. Ths songs are mostly rap and some crappy rock. The only two songs I liked were Shimmy by System of a Down, and Spokesman by Goldfinger. The soundtrack in THPS 3 was the best in the series. That game had hilarious songs and some good rock on there. I was real disappointed in this game's soundtrack.Gameplay The new Free Skate Career Mode is the best thing yet in a Tony Hawk game. I like being able to just skate around freely and have time to get the cash icons. Getting goals is really cool too. I love getting goals from Bam Margera, he says the dumbest things, and he's hilarious. My favorite level would either have to be Kona or London, just because they're big and have good skate spots. One things though was in the secret levels, (Carnival and Chicago) the goals were extremely hard. Like in Chicago, the High Score is 900,000 points. I mean gimme a break! The Sick Score in Zoo isn't even that high! The game did have some funny things though, like in Zoo, one of the missions is too hang onto an elephants tail for 30 seconds. As you held on he ran around and crapped all over the place!Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary GREAT!!! game the graphics are improved from 3 but the sound track was REALLY disappointing though. Overall this game rivals THPS 2 (in my opinion a classic) The new "Free Skate Style" Career mode is a huge improvement. And the Luge Task and "Baseboard" minigame are wicked!Sound The new sound mix is disapointing and there are only about 2 good songs on it but like DFunk said you just pop in a JJ or MNM CD and BOOM the game is flawlessPS MNM IS SICK! Gameplay Gameplay has made a leap with (as i said before) the new free skate style career mode and the skitchin (hangin on to the backs of cars) and also the wallie + Grindonwall (Y+A+Y against wall) are really wickedWould you like to Comment?
