Summary The Sega Dreamcast is beyond a shadow of a doubt the most versatile console on the market. Not only does it have a tremendously good software library, but the other things you can do with the system are amazing. I have in my possession a burn of every Sega Genesis ever made, which I can play on my dreamcast. I have an NES emulator, an SNES emulator, an SMS emulator, and Bleem!cast. It's the most versatile console I've ever seen. Too bad it's dead :-(Sound Also excellentGameplay Excellent. Great software library, plus great versitility.Would you like to Comment? Summary Its been a while since i wrote because ive been so away from the computer here but this is a good read{i hope}.To tell you the truth i got the Sega Dreamcast only because my brothers had it.I wasnt really popular with the Nintendo64{as of Nov.'96}until now.Ever since i got it ive played the demo disk so much because i loved the system.Sound The most annoying thing about the system is the loading.I love the Nintendo64 because it doesnt load. But of course we would all be here dcussing the real winner of them all.Its crazy because when the Sega Dreamcast loads it makes the loud sound like a old computer. Its very hard to play late at night because its so loud your parent(s) could here it and you would be done for the night. But like the PSOne we will have to settle for it.Anyway you never know what good game could come up next.Gameplay Well I did finally get some games and the list is {NBA2K,NFL2K,Shenmue,Datona USA 2001}.Games were very high quality.Shenmue was my favorite because it was the only game i could beat that neither one of my brothers could.I got tired of it eventually and finally put it to rest.If I may add it is a good game{read my review on it}.Would you like to Comment? But the truth is that the Dreamcast is not as great of a system as people make it out to be.There are many resons why I say this, and I will address all of them in this review. When I first bought my DC on 9-9-99 I was inpressed by games like Sonic Adventure, Ready To Rumble, and Power Stone. The DC had a great launch with solid titles. I am still amazed by the speed of Sonic Adventure. The DC did have it's peak around the holiday's of 2000 with great games like Skies of Arkadia, Grandia 2, Shemue, among others. But over all it still leaves me unsatisfied. The lack of third party support hurt the DC badly, with many of the DC's best titles being first party. Alot of the titles for the dc though are cheap Playstation ports, which did not do Segas next generation system any good whatsoever. The PC games were ported also kind of shody. The DC was by no means a bad system, but it is not the greatest one either. Sega did it's part, and did it well but from lack of support and the publics lack of intrest has basicaly killed the DC. The DC has had a life span of about two years, and for most of this last year after Sega's anouncment of it's demise of the DC, The DC has preformed very porly, granted that is to be expected of a dying system. When I look back at the last half of the DC's life span as a lackluster march to death I cannot give this system a great review. I can say that if more people supported the DC, and gave Sega a chance, the DC would not be terminated and Sega would be free to suppoort the DC with stronger tites, and as a result the DC would be a force to be respected in the coming system wars. The termination of major DC titles was not sega's fault but it did add insult to injury. I believe that I put everything in the right perspective when I say that Sega itself is a great company because they know how to make great games, but with I cannot honestly give a great score to a system that has been dying for more than a year now. Sega did all of the right things with the DC, but the public failed to take notice until it was to late. Sound The sound depends on the game. I' notice alot of games have cheasy voice acting thouge.Gameplay To tell you the truth, there has not been a whole lot of games this last year. The gameplay depends on the game, some are bad and some games are good.Games that Sega makes tend to be very good, while most PC ports have horible control problems. There have been a few great RPG's but not a whole lot compared to the PSx1. But the first party games have alot of inovation and creativity. I am not compleatly satisfiead though. The DC lifespan is to short to develope a more satisfying experiance. Most of the games for the DC did not exactly blow me away, but there has been some great games. Would you like to Comment? Summary Now I got one thing to say...ANYONE WHO DOESN'T HAVE A DREAMCAST NEEDS TO WAKE UP AND SMELL THE ROSES.Sound Sound is off da hook. I love being able to listen to so many different sounds at a single time (64 to be precise).Gameplay Gameplay is great. I mean U save up my money just to squander it on DC games. and I am not the least bit ashamed of that. Now lets see there is somewhere of about 350 dreamcast games and about 150 are awesome. PS2 there is about 110 games and about 4 are okay(not great but ok). I don't care what you say Madden 2002 for PS2 can't beat NFL 2K2(or 2K1 for that matter).Would you like to Comment? The speed may be a little better than the dreamcast but the graphics has a lot of jaggies. My cousin reloaded a disk of the PS2 20 times just to play 20 seconds of the game till it starts to freeze. Dreamcast on the other hand loads its games and recognizes them quickly. Not only is the console great but A LOT of the games it plays are extremely GREAT!! The Dreamcast is an extremely great system with a lot of good games!!Sound Cool music in each gameGameplay Great games!!Would you like to Comment? Summary Well, when i bought the Dreamcast i tought it would be good, but not this good. The 128-bit power of this console is awesome and when you try games like Sonic Adventure 2 or Virtua Tennis, Resident Evil : Code Veronica and others you see what this means.Sound Well, the sound is great and clear. The 64 channels that Yamaha supplied to our console are great.NUFF SAID!!!Gameplay The D-Pad fits my hands perfectly. It's much more ergonomic than the PSX pads. Even tough bigger hands may have some problems, it should fit us all.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I bought the Dreamcast when it first hit stores on 9/9/99 and have been enjoying it ever since. Talk about getting my money's worth! It's sad that the sheep mentality has struck the majority of gamers and they've bought into Sony's hype machine. It was this "follow the crowd" mentality that led to DC's early, undeserved demise. Let me tell you...I have no regrets, now I can get those games I missed for less that $20, and I'll still be enjoying the DC long after it's ceased production. And I have absolutely NO PLANS on jumping on the Sony bandwagon...I'll buy games for the PC before I do that.Sound Best on any console, and "you can't coach that"! Nowhere have I heard better commentary than NFL2K1. The roar of the engines give each racing game a distinct feel (see Test Drive Lemans and Sega GT). The musical score in Soul Calibur sets the tone of the game. The best games for the DC showed off its audio capabilities, and they are incredible.Gameplay Awesome...most fun I've ever had gaming. I'm a sports, racing, and fighting junkie, and Sega satisfied on all fronts. NFL2K1 and NBA2K1 are two of the finest sports titles ever (and quiet as it's kept, I even had fun playing WSB2K1, despite the overwhelming negative reviews). I've enjoyed Test Drive Lemans, Sega GT, MSR, Sega Rally, and that classic Daytona USA. As far as fighting goes, I think Soul Caliber is the finest game ever in any category (and it was a first generation title!), and I also enjoyed Dead or Alive 2.Would you like to Comment? I absolutely love this machine, and I am sad to say that it will be gone by next year. The hardware, and it's games, are all works of art. The system was way ahead of it's time. The inclusion of a modem, plenty of RAM for a console, and very efficient 3d hardware make the machine a winner. It is truely in a class by itself. If you can't appreciate this machine, then you are truely an idiot, blided by Sony propoganda. And unfortunately, that is the way that this market works.Sound The sound is excellent. The machine is capable of Dobly surround and has some great native audio formats.Gameplay I own 50 games and love them all. Now is an excellent time to buy a machine for $79, and games for 10-20. Besides that, you get online playability, which is perhaps one of the biggest inovations in console gaming, ever. That games all play well. Online games are incredibly fun. The controller, which looks combersome at first, is actually the most comfortable device that I have ever used to play games. The analog stick is wonderful, and is well implemented into most games. Being a digital button fan, I never used analog on PSX games, but that was mostly because of how it was placed and how lose the sticks were on the psx pads. The DC controller feels more natural, despite it's Batarang appearance.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Whats with all the Dreamcast - PS2 comparisons? The Dreamcast costs less than a PSone and is far better in all respect than the PSone. PS2 with one game, one controller, no memory card, costs $500 canadian ($100 canadian is $65 US, with is the cost of the Dreamcast in Canada). Dreamcast with four controlers, memory card and about 20 games, still less than $500.Ask yourself how many games you can afford to buy with a PS2. If you can only afford a couple, then realize that you could be playing a Dreamcast with dozens of games or a PS2 with a couple. Plus if you want to play the best games right now, not next year. Then you need a dreamcast. Buy a Dreamcast now with dozens of great games and wait till FFX comes out for PS2 or the PS2 comes down in price. Sound Can play all those mp3 you downloaded and burnt to disc. Enough said.Gameplay While someone with a PS2 plays the same game over and over again, you can tons of games for less money.Would you like to Comment? Summary i remember the first day dreamcast came into stores nationwide: 9/9/99. that was almost exactly 2 years ago. it cost about what, $200. now it's two years later and what is it now... $80. thats sad, thats really sad. playstation had been in stores longer than dreamcast, it has worse graphics than dreamcast, and it still costs more than dreamcast. what a loser. why wont sega just quit. its all about sony.Sound sounds like an old jukeboxGameplay the controller is fat and uncomfortableWould you like to Comment? Summary Great value for the money. You get great graphics, gameplay, sound and titles in one small bundle.Sound Great sound, primarily the responsibility of the developers to fully utilize the sound design.Gameplay Best selection of titles for any console on the market at this point in time. I believe that X-Box will have some great titles but Nintendo's line up has always been weak, PS2 their library is very weak at this point with only one or two 5 star titles.Would you like to Comment? Summary Honestly, this summary is just to counteract the last one, which is by one of the sony "fanboys" who's probably bitter after spending over $400 for a PS2, 2 games, and 2 controllers. Where he "mentions" all the parts of the PS2 that are superior, leaving out the 4 controller ports on the DC, the out-of-box internet ready option, visual memory and so on. And so all you other gaystation fanboys know, editors all around the business are dissapointed with the PS2. It's...well...bad. Thank you.Sound "It has DVD. Where is it? What parental code? That looks SO grainy, I thought this was DVD!!! Oh gosh, it's a 4X player, I could have picked one of those up new for under $100"Gameplay Gosh...Grow up fanboys.Would you like to Comment? Summary (Rating is System compared to the PS2) I dedicated this to all the idiots that actually think Dreamcast is better than the PS2. Just as I predicted, it was De ja Vu all over again. Just as Saturn was put out of business by Playstation, history repeated itself. In less than 6 months after PS2 came out Dreamcast has given up. They have done just like the old saying: "If you can't beat 'em join em". Now Sega is going to make games for the PS2. I don't see why this is shocking to ppl. I mean lets compare the two. Ps2 has and has been voted for the best controller(1 and only dual analog controller), has DVD, more polygons per second(therefore much better graphics), and even can stand up sideways. Dreamcast on the other hand has a mimic of the N64 controller, doesn't have DVD, you can't hook n yr old controller, and for heavens sake it doesnt even have a reset button! Unlike the PS2 the games dont run smoothly, you can hear a scratching noise from the Cd. The War of Four(Dreamcast vs.Playstation 2 vs. GameCube vs. X- Box) is already over. Dreamcast is already eliminated. Who will be Sony's next victim?Sound In Summary Gameplay In Summary Would you like to Comment? I'm not going to compare it to other systems, because it really stands alone. It has an incredible line-up of quality A+ titles, quick load times, and not to mention, for a "dying" system, it has PLENTY of games on the way.Sound The Dreamcast is LOUD. You can hear it working, but at the same time, the in-game sounds it pumps out are crisp, clean, and beautiful. I love the opening scene for the dreamcast. Many developers have utilized the dreamcast's sound to the fullest, and it adds to the experience. High quality sound.Gameplay Never have I played so many enjoyable games than I have on the Dreamcast. From Tony Hawk 2 to Phantasy Star Online. From Grandia II to NBA 2K1. The games on the Dreamcast are simply fun. I credit sega for putting together such a large library of GREAT game. Very strong!Would you like to Comment? Summary Holy Crap! What a Deal! This system just blew me away. This is the BEST deal you'll find anywhere. At my local Wal-Mart 90% of the games are $9.96 (canadian). Quite simply put, it blows every other system on the market now out of the water. I could spend hours boring you with deets, so let's move on. Sound Excellent. The system is a bit noisy but you get used to it.Gameplay Quite simply the best i've seen yet. The controller's a little light, especially without a vmu, but that's fine.Would you like to Comment? I didn't know how. This is my first Sega system. It would also be the last, since Sega stooped making systems. But let's talk about the system a bit - 128 bit system, high res graphics, fantastic games - everything you want from a system. There's also a web connection, so you can play via net against other players. The variety and quality of games is excellent. If you take a look, you'll see that the dreamcast has the highest percentage of all systems, of games that got 8-10 grades. In addition, you can't drop the subject of the prices. Most of us isn't a milionaire. while PS2 costs 400 bucks, the DC costs 80. Game Boy Color costs only 10 bucks less. This system is well designed, very small, and run great games, such as Sonic, Crazy taxi, Jet Grind Radio, Ecco, Skies of Arcadia etc. The graphics is stunning. The controller is briiliant. This system is the perfect system with the perfect price. Must buy for all real gamers! Sound The sound is nice. The games has Dolby surround. Some games have the greatest soundtrack like Crazy Taxi and Jet grind radio. All in all, the DC is a great system, and with its current tag price, there's no reason that you'll miss such a deal. great sound, graphics and controller make this system a great gaming experience. Gameplay The controller, in first glance, seems very big and uncomfortable. I thought that too. then I played with it, and saw it is a wonderful controller. 4 buttons, 2 behind, and the best analog stick ever created so far. This is the only analog stick I actually like. The nintendo's was very hard to move, and the PS2 and PSX is too long. Don't be mistaken by this controller. it is very good. the only con is that some games ( such as MDK 2 ) have the most confusing buttons. And that's it.Would you like to Comment? Summary Firs of all, i wanna say this is a honest review, because im not a SEGA fan that doesnt want to face reality, neither a PS2 fan that says "PS2 all the way dude!".Yeah... THe dreamcast wowed the hell out of me when it first came out, in terms of graphics, but i was soon disappointed to see that the games did not improve graphically. For example, i loved NFL 2k, and i coulnt wait for 2k1 to came out. I was expecting the game to look waay better, for the reason that many people were saying "wait! dont buy Ps2 for the graphics!!! Dreamcast will have better games around Christmas time!!!!!!!!!", and that is exactly what i did, wait. So NFL 2k1 came out in sept, and i get home and start playing it. Sure... the graphics are actually improved in some areas, but you cant really say the game wowed you again, because it didnt. After that, i start to see that alot of Dreamcast games start to look the same, for example, Power stone 2 look very much alike to the first one. SURE, shenmue did WOWED the hell outta me, im not gonna lie there. Nba 2k looked amazing, NBA 2k1 looks basically the same, and to me it still looks amazing, but that doesnt mean that the developers can still do better graphics on the DC. I was a "Sega fan" like alot of you , and although i KNEW ps2 looked better, i didnt want to admit it (yeah, like you!). Only a BLIND person wouldnt see that PS2 looks better! WAIT!!! I Am not saying that PLaystation 2 is a million times better graphically, because maybe it isnt. BUT PLEASE, PS2 does look better!!! A few weeks later,i started to admit it, "OK, maybe Ps2 looks better! but its way more expencive, it doesnt have online (yet),". Alot of you say thatPS2 sucks bcause it has no online, but tell me... After a while that you got NFL 2k1, or NBA 2k1, or Quake 3, DO YOU even care about playing those games online any more??? Well at least i didnt, and i know alot of people that dont. In fact, every friend of mine HATES NFL 2k1 now. (You might hate it too, if you have been playin NFL 2k1 for at least 3 months). I had 19 games for dreamcast. SOME of the best rated games, such as SONIC adventure, NFL 2k, NFL 2k1, NBA 2k, NBA 2k1, soul calibur, Shenmue (best game of all time, ill admit that, but after u play it once, its soo long that you prolly wont play it again for a while), i also had Rush 2049, QUake 3, starlancer, Shadowman , house of the dead 2, and others (i had basically all the games that got an 8 or 9, even 10 in Dreamcast official mag, i dont remember all the games i had). Even tho i had all those "GREAT" Games, i was soo bored, and wanting to play something that would keep me playing for more than 3 months with out hating it. I DID not care about online, i did not care about anything, but a good game. And then i said " OH well, NFL 2k1 is not that great, ill just wiat for 2k2", But then i thouhgt "DAMN! i still have to wait a long time with out a decent football game". I WAS EVEN THINKING OF GETTIN Qb CLUB!! YES!! IT GOT tO THAT POINT!!! but one day, i went to circuit city. and saw madden 2001 for pS2. And no matter what you think, i said " OH DAMN!!!" . After a while, i was just playin DEMoS i had for dreamcast every day, since the games i had didnt interest me. and then SEga announced that they were not gonna support DC anymore, so that was the perfect excuse to get rid of it and buy a Ps2. And do i care about online play? no. It was a good thing i didnt wait for NFL 2k2, because look at the screens... it looks the damn SAME!!!!! THeres someone in this page that said that he wasnt gonna get NCAA 2002 for PS2, and he was gonna get NCAA2k2 for DC. And im sorry my friend, but you dont know what you are missing... EA SPORTS is kickin Sega Sports games for the second year in a row. Yeah, maybe PS2 is not way better than dc, but does that really matter? It looks better, it will be around longer, and all that stuff. So i would recomend that you stop being a sega fan that doesnt wanna face reality, because it will only give you head aches! Summary i think that sega dreamcast is by far the best system on the market. Dreamcast does have it flaws but no one really thinks about that when they are playing, especially when u are playing a baseball game that actually makes the players look like people and not something that ur little brother made out of plato!! it is a nice feeling when u can just pack up the dreamcast system and transport it wherever u want. the VMU memory card id the best idea on the market and it is a shame that the X box ripped off sega by doing that. Now am not going to rip on x box because if they are going to have the best system they are going to have to use some of segas ideas. But then there is PS2, some people will always be playstation fans and some people will always be sega fans that is just the way the are. everyone always wants the new system so that they can play on the improved graphics and brag to there friends that they had it first all i can say is that all those people who waited countless hours for PS2 is that dreamcast has better graphics, better games, sound, and who really wants a dvd player on there system anyways, it is just something else for your little brother to be interested in so he can mess it up. it is no doubt that dreamcast is the best and that all the dreamcast fans will live for more games to come.Sound enough said that the sound quality is great froom the moment u turn on the dreamcast and u see that little bouncing ball across the dreamcast logo and here the boo....boo...boo..boo.boo! it is fantastic!Gameplay the gameplay for the dreamcat system is something that sega has always thrived on. it is great and i have never ever questioned the greatness of the gameplay at all.Would you like to Comment?
