Summary A great surfing game! Panned by some reviews, I think this game deserves a high score.. it's original, and surprisingly deep and challenging if you spend the time to learn! The beaches are great, and I think it is worh the effort to unlock the new ones. 2 are unlocked by winning a championship at beginner level, 2 more at amateur, and I have 3 more to earn. The 2 from amateur are great! Such as "Fiddlesticks" beach, with 15-20 foot swells!! HUGE tubes, you can actually ride in!Sound Not that great, but sound never really influences me that much. I shut off the music (which is not great) as well as the commentary (gets annoying.. "Smooth moves, dude! MADNESS!! Nice ride! pretty canned and repetitive).But the normal surfing sounds are nice. Again, nothing spectacular, but nothing that detracts from the game IMO. Gameplay Fun, slightly difficult on anything other than beginner level (there are 3 levels: beginner, amateur, pro). Nicely set up controls (button layout I mean) for amateur and pro, and the difficulties are different enough to add challenge when you think you're mastering the game. For example, it's even tougher just to catcth the wave on the higher difficulties. There are a LOT of different tricks, although they ARE mostly variations (e.g. adding a rail grab) but this is surfing, not skating.. It surprised me and I ended up playing for a few days straight!! And although it is somewhat simplistic, so are many great games like Crazy Taxi, where the real goal is improving your skills and getting better.Championships are fun, especially on the amateur or pro settings.. Really challenging, and with time and wave limits, nail biting.. (I just need a 5.3 to win this heat!! But I only have 0:45 to get that kind of ride in!) You feel rewarded when you end your heat with a perfect run, nailing the win.. There's also trick attack (do the tricks it tells you), time attack (haven't played), free surf (really fun.. no time limits or anything, pick a beach, board, surfer, weather conditions and go.. also change each of those on the fly if you want).
