Summary

Initially I was extremely impressed with this game. The graphics looked great, the storyline seemed interesting and the combat was fast and frenetic. Unfortunately it didn't take too long before the repetive nature of the game reared its ugly head. It's just a hack and slash game with the barest minimum of plot. As you move down levels you get new monsters to kill and you pick up new weapons and spells, but it all gets boring pretty quickly. I was quite surprised by the sucess of Diablo on USenet and the internet, but this is probably down to the multiplayer aspect. Even here Diablo fails to deliver, as the multiplayer game is ruined by player killers rampant cheating. In short I think Diablo could have been a contender, if it had a better plot, more character interaction and fairer internet play.

Summary

Blizzard has really outdone themselves with Diablo, by creating a sophisticated game (despite the massive killing sprees) that is intriguing, redemptive, and with unprecedented replayability. I've been a Diablo addict for close to a year now and I still find myself playing (Pretty remarkable, considering my short attention span.). People who post and say the game gets easier obviously have n't spent much time in the multiplayer mode which allows you to pick differing difficulty levels. I have an advanced level 43 character and I still find tough situations that could kill my character. The gameplay is fairly smooth, although multiplayer connections on Battle.net and via modem game sometimes have poor latency resulting in bad lag, which can be disastrous in a "live action combat situation." The graphics of Diablo are stunning and the sound is also well done. Diablo was a great idea (albeit an addictive one) and I look forward to the future of Blizzard and maybe a newer, even more absorbing Diablo....

Summary

I have to bring up this game's average, since it is by far the best game I own, and I played this for months after I got it! Beautiful graphics, but of course what really makes it is extremely user-friendly gameplay. If you don't like cheaters in multi-player, for God's sake join a guild and play in private games with the hundreds of members of a legit clan! I love having a game that I could both play right away (no need for lengthy manuals) yet find required some strategy and subtlety, especially on BattleNet (totally free!) when I have to coordinate my efforts with other players.Diablo certainly had minor limitations; a village of eight people whose "gossip" was uninformative, useless memory-wasting bored me, and apparently Blizzard also heeded (in Hellfire) the complaints that it took forever to walk from WIrt to the Witch. However, I could never get enough of this game, and forced myself to stop before I flunked all my classes.

Summary

Diablo is a descent game but beware of the dark side. There are soooooooooooooooo many cheat programs out there, not to mention the "duping" which is built into the game. Even if you play by yourself you can cheat. Cheating allows you to go around and kill everyone who either does not know about or refues to cheat. If this appeals to you go ahead and play. But if you want to play without cheating do not accept "items" from other players. I know I did wihtout knowing what I was doing and soon found myself almost on Diablo's floor without cheating myself. I just had such cool weapons and armour (all duped without me knowing) that I would not die. I regenerated myself everytime I hit a monster. After I learned how far I had gotten the game sucked. I have not played since except to try out a new "cheat" oh well I'm sure they meant well.
