Summary The Mummy was the only movie that stood up well to Episode 1, so successful that a sequel and a spin-off are in the works. Then they decided to make a game out of it. It follows Brendan Fraser's Indiana wannabe character, Rick O'Connell. First off Konami has put out Metal Gear Solid, which recently became a PC game, to my delight (don't own a playstation, pity me:), but they can't seem to do anything else right. The game looks and feels like a photocopy of Tomb Raider, complete with button mashing battle scenes and switch reliant puzzles that show up by the dozen. Like Indiana, O'Connell handles excavations the hard way. (Note, the game is set before the movie) Longer and intense exploratory sessions are inevitable, as O'Connell wanders through an endless amount of Mazes, booby trapped stone corridors and falling blocks. While your not distracted by these, you must fight off a bevy of evil creatures. It'll take every round of stick of dynamite in your inventory to take care of the undead, mummies, grave robbers and other baddies. They aren't hard to kill, but there are just some many of them. Anyway, there is a paper-thin plot, which is enhanced with pointless mini-games, like running from scarabs or chasing after Imhopteps lacky, Beni.Final Verdict-Tomb Raider Clone Sound Cheesy one liners. Chunky dialoge. Annyoing enemy voices. Guns sound like crap, resemble the noice a pop gun makes. Music un-thrilling.Final Verdict- Turn you speakers! Gameplay Most of its up in Summary, but there are other things that will dive you insane. Tight Controls, annyoing mini-games. The Puzzles? Simple, most of them revolve around fining the right switch, which is usually a room away. To many instant hazards cause instant death, forcing folks to restart with several previously completed undone. Talk about annyoning! Redemable traits about the game lays with a cool theme. I mean come on, poking around Egypt and Ramada Inn Cairo are fun. Fights are swift and brutal, occur regularly, and curiosity is rewarded with power-ups.Final Verdict- Disapointing, but can entertain some. Would you like to Comment? Summary Despite what many reviewers might've said about this particular title, I believe that "The Mummy" is quite different from the classic Tomb Raider games. It definetely has the appeal of a great Tomb Raider like game, but the overall gameplay and look are more similar to "The Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine." When all is said, I frankly think that "The Mummy" isn't as terrible as some people might feel.Sound The sound is most certainly the best feature of this game. Many special effects, including the music, come directly from the movie. Rick's voice is also very similar to Brandon Freasure's (not sure about my spelling) from the film. The spooky sounds of this game guarantee keeping most gameplayers on their toes. Not to mention, the very cool Mummy theme is just what you want to hear during those gruesome battles. Good Luck!Gameplay The gameplay is probably the most noticeable feature of this game. The main character, Rick O'Connell, looks and sounds pretty much just like the real guy from the movie. Although Rick's movements and actions look a little weird at times, he sure can put up a good deal of fighting with those crippy mummies and other ghosts. Speaking of mummies and other enemies, this game has tons of them. I couldn't find any special cheats in this game, which is why I had to use my ammo very wisely and save a lot. The Artificial Intelligence behind this game is pretty good. The ugly undead tend to attack as soon as they see Rick. Unfortunately, there aren't too many weapons in this game; not that you really need many anyways. As soon as you'll get that 999 round machine gun, you might not want to use anything else--just cut the uglies down like wheat. Anyone, who likes a great deal of combat action without having to solve many puzzles or getting lost, will probably find "The Mummy" very entertaining. I guarantee it.Would you like to Comment? Summary When I had originally heard that the Mummy would be coming out for PC gaming, I was quite happy, considering I'd seen it only for PlayStation (and I'm not into gaming consoles). I've watched the movie and found it quite entertaining, and pretty much bought the game sight unseen.Sound I was pleased with the overall sound effects, but the musical soundtrack disappointed me. In some parts, the music would waver and warble sounding like it was being played on a very bad cassette deck.Gameplay Game play was very easy. There isn't a lot of confusing and redundant keys, and it's easy to learn which keys do what. The bad thing I found, is you can't change the configuration of the keys. They're pretty much what you've got to use, which isn't great if you are used to playing Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, and would like to change configurations to match those two games (which already have very similar key configs). Can you believe it?How can developers imagine that they will amuse people, making them play their games, and not giving them the option to SAVE THEIR GAMES? "THE MUMMY" is one of these craps!!! Developers can't be in their full sanity when they create such pieces of junk... Ok, ok, we have nice scenarios, a good sound, and so on. But think of that: you're going well in your game, you are almost to finish a very long level, you've killed many many enemies, THAN, a large rock, coming from nowhere, falls onto you and you're dead meat: Is it fair that you have to START ALL THAT LEVEL AGAIN??? Why not giving us a save option? Games like this one does not enjoy us! They frustrate us! Sound Here is the salvation.A very good soundtrack (maybe because of the movie itself) saves the day. So, what we have to do is: Start the game, turn the monitor off, unplug the keyboard, and enjoy... Gameplay Although it takes some time to get used to theinterface, it is not SO BAD!!! Problem is that the movements are limited and, compared to other games of the genre, it's very, very, poor. The main character runs like his legs were shorter than usual. It's ridiculous... But, worst of all, we have here a game based on the ancient Egypt AND WE HAVE NO PUZZLES AT ALL!! It's just: press the rock -> open the door stuff The pharaos didn't deserve this stupid fate...
