Sound

In every part of the game there is some kind of voice. But this voice goes through the game, so you will hear over and over. The least favorite song/sound that was in the game generaly, was the openning page, which was like very old music, just like monks. The talking between characters is very good, and in the cut scenes, but you don't see yourself talking because you have a mask on.

Gameplay

When you play the game, you can really get in the game and feel what's going on in there. I remember one time when somebody came from the dark and it frightend me a little bit, because I was actually in the game. In Halo you can play a cooprative play which means you play the levels with one friend. The problom is that levels repeat themselves, which means that they took one part of the game/level copied it and placed it in another part of the level/game. That's why everything will look so familiar. There are not so many levels in Halo, I finished the game in about a week. I suggest start it in Legendary, because easy is too easy, and you don't want to do all the levels again in another difficultly, which amks it boring, because you know all the ways in the level. Microsoft made the levels long, so it will look hard and long, which isn't true. Another multi-player thing you can do is everybody vs. everybody, which means no creatures (aliens), but all the weapons are there, and the vehicle, except the really cool one, which is the flying one. Sometimes it's even gets boring to play it. There are two missions in two differenet levels that were very hard even in easy, so be ware.

Sound

The sound is also great, it isn't overdone with alot of flashy music. The human characters sound great, but the aliens sound a little goofy. They have squeaky high pitched voices that sound like Daffy Duck at times.

Gameplay

The game play is like that of a typical first person shooter. But the ability to align yourself and communicate with other soldiers is brilliant. For once in a FPS you don't feel like your fighting a war all alone. The ability to ride on vehicles is good, but it was done better in Red Faction. The crazy controls mixed with the constantly shifting camera angles really make it a chore to ride around on vehicles and kill your enemies. Another gripe about this game is the fact you can hold only two guns at a time. Although it is a more realistic approach, it really makes the game seem primitive compared to other shooters where you could hold countless weapons.
The mulitplayer missions are great, it really is alot more fun than the regular multiplayer combat.Especially when you can both ride in a vehicle: One drives, one shoots. But agian, the crazy vehicle crontrols become a pain.

Summary

It was about 15 years ago that I remember playing Bard's Tale on my C64 and listening to Peter Gabriel's album "So" in my small closet of a room after coming home from high school. At the time, they were my favorite computer game and music album. This has held true for both until about a month ago ("So" is still my favorite album though). Bard's Tale was such a unique and engrossing experience for me that has never really been duplicated since. When a game takes a hold of you in such a way that you think about that game constantly when not playing it, you feel as though the game is more intriguing than many aspects of your life. I know that sounds pitiful, but isn't that what entertainment is meant to do, whether it be music, art, theater or gaming. At least that is what I look for in games. Bard's Tale had me hooked like a bad habit for a better portion of a month (or more). There have been games that come very close to that experience, but Halo has finally exceeded my ultimate expectation of a computer or video game. Halo has everything I have been waiting for in a game.

Halo is an entertainment marvel; thank you Bungie.

Sound

"They're everywhere!!!" is what you'll hear when you round a corner of a cliff face and start blasting your way through a Covenant outpost. Or you hear screaming from an enemy when a plasma grenade you throw attaches to his back.

The music is very haunting at suspenseful parts in the game, and very fast at intense parts.

Voice-acting is top-notch as well.

Gameplay

To me the most important aspect to any game is gameplay.

This is where Halo really shines! The plot will suck you in and keep you short of breath to see what will happen next. The game plays and feels like a classic science fiction novel or movie.

The controls take a short while to get accustomed to, but feel right after about 15 minutes into the game. The game that allows you to travel by foot, vehicle, hovercraft, tank and air glider, not to mention fire off a plethora of weapons, human and alien.

The single-player plot and multi-player games will keep this one at the top of your pile for a long while. Total time for completion of the single-player game was about 20-25 hours.

Sound

Halo also features some of the best sound qualities ever in a game. The explosions sound so realistic that you'll run for cover when you hear them. The music fits the atmosphere perfectly as well. Halo does a nice job of showcasing the Xbox sound capabilities.

Gameplay

If your sick and tired of those first person shooters that focus little on action and more on finding items, then you'll love Halo. It's nonstop action. When I played the demo, the game ran really slow. However, the final version runs pretty fast and pretty good. Halo also has an amazing story that will keep you glued till the very end. When your done beating the game, you'll want to beat it over and over. The AI is exetreamly smart. They dodge your bullets, take cover from your fire, and even throw your gernades back at you. The Multiplayer modes rule. Play against your friends in games like deathmatch and capture the flag. You can also play with a friend as well. Halo has so muck replay value that it's almost impossible to get bored with the game.

Sound

I was just playing on a normal tv sound hole thing so it was just like any other game BUT ive heard great things from people who have good systems and they say its awesome and i believe it. The only drawback is the music kind of lacks at times but its ok because youre so into it you dont even think about it.

Gameplay

Pretty solid except the controls for vehicles is a little too ackward for it's own good, but i got used to it and it's now natural. But i admire that bungie at least attempted to come up with a unique control scheme so on that note i hold nothing against them for it. But the rest of the game is near perfect and really well thought out, especially those well balance skirmishes that break out every once in a while. those are awesome to watch! the best part of halo is that finally you're not the target of every enemy within a ten mile radius, instead the covenant are just fighting against THE enemy instead of all ganging up on you. This adds way more realisticness and makes you feel like one of your fellow marines instead of the big walking target like in doom.

Summary

Enter an environment unlike any before. From the beginning Halo drops you into the year 2552, where you are the Master Chief of an elite unite that utilizes the "Spartan II" battlesuit. An advanced body armour that offers the ultimate protection and the best in earthly technology. The rest of your unit has fallen to the enemy and you are Humanities last hope.

While being escorted via Cryostorage to your next destination, the Covenant (the alien race that threatens to eradicate mankind) manages to locate the vessel transporting you and begins to attack it. The Captain of the spaceship, gives out the order for all Marines and military persons on board to ready for battle against the invading enemy which threatens to board the vessel and gain valuable information as to earth's defense, as well as the most important to them: earth's location in the solar system. If the aliens find earth, mankind may not survive.

Forget what you know about first person shooters (FPS) and prepare to take part in an adventure that challenges your imagination. From the beginning, this game inspires you to be "the hero". Needless to say, in these times of great patriotism, I didn't personally need to be called for long. I was ready to do my part! (even if it was only a game)

Sound

Crank up the systems because sound is diffinitely going to play a major role in this title. You will want to hear the grunts and cries of the men around you, the dreaded whizzing of enemy fire passing you on the battle field, and even the cackles of the aliens as they attempt to ambush you in secluded dark places.

Gun fire and explosions are your standard fare here, but a nice touch is the "gritty gravel" sound effect that most games forget. What I mean is if you have an explosion happening around you, there will be plenty of debri flying around. In this game you not only SEE the dust and gravel shooting up around you from the resulting explosions, but thanks to the sound effects you can almost swear you feel it pelting your armour as well!

Overall, this game while again, not graphically or thematically original, is very entertaining and will have you playing hours on end if for nothing more than to do your patriotic duty and save the earth for all mankind.

(did I mention it's four player/sixteen player compatible as well? Oh yeah, but don't get me started on that!)

Gameplay

Unlike most FPS, Halo, does not start you out immediately with weapons. Since you are just coming out of Cryostorage when the attack begins you are left to find your way through the chaos to the ship's bridge where you will be briefed on what you must do. And let me tell you, there is chaos.

The way the gameplay has been designed allows the player to feel the chaos yet still manage to miraculously find their way as gun fire and explosions erupt all around you.

At first I found myself trying to duck for cover as the alien invaders began to pentrate the area I was in. Explosions happening all around and the feeling of an as of yet unseen enemy breathing down my neck kept me moving any where that was far away. But then I started to get into the action and began to follow the flow of things. Marines running towards the danger was my first clue that I should be going the other way until I got a weapon in hand. Still others shouting to me to follow them as bodies flew all around me and gun fire whizzed past helped to keep me on track. Needless to say the gameplay in that first 5 minutes of play was intense. Never have I played a game that had me running for cover and dodging the enemy without a sense of who they were or where I'd find my weapons. It was amazing! In addition to the on screen action the player can feel the explosions rocking the ship via the built-in rumble paks for the Xbox controller.

Halo, allows you to fight side by side with your fellow man while hourdes of aliens attempt to use diabolical weapons to bring about your demise. Often you will run across vehicles that will allow you to pick up stray Marines littered across the battlefield to join you in the fight. Other times you will find yourself picking up alien technology to use against them or simply avoiding alien search ships trying to find you and keep you from your goals.

The player is controlled using both analog sticks on the controller. One for movement, the other for rotation and looking around. In a realistic manner the player is only allowed to carry two weapons (but can stock up on grenades regardless of weapons carried) Since weapons will be littered across the battle field and since ammo clips are fairly large, you won't suffer for a weapon. Your built in Heads Up Display allows you to navigate the playfield in search of enemies, in addition to displaying other valuable information. Your Spartan II battlesuit even comes equipped with a helmet mounted flashlight for those dark confined spaces.

Although the character controls tightly, the vehicles are another issue all together. Bungie should have placed more thought into the control scheme and handling. The use of both sticks to drive the vehicles gives the feeling you are driving a Tyco Radio control car prone to spin outs and big air crashes. You accelerate with one stick and steer with the other. The problem is that the other stick also controls the camera. So if you are trying to drive around something suddenly the entire view whips around on you and you get the feeling you have oversteered which often ends up in an accident that spills you and your optional 3 passangers. Let's hope they get that right in the next version!
