Summary

Halo. Yes, Halo. Probably the best FPS (First-Person Shooter) money can buy. Some people (Off of this site) say it doesn't compare to Goldeneye. They just don't realize how wrong they are. Halo, my friends, is THE best FPS to grace a console. The whole reason I bought the X-Box was because of this game.

Let me tell you how it all started.

My brother was telling me that his friends bought an X-Box, and bought it only for Halo. At first I was really skeptical about the X-box, and how much it was praised, so I just shrugged, and said, "Whatever." After a while, my brother visited his friend, and said he played Halo. My first question was, "How was it?" My brother gave it just as much praise as most people give it. I was still slightly skeptical, despite all of the praise he poured onto it. Soon after, My brother told me that his friends were coming over to my house, and they were bringing the X-box.

To make a long story short, I was excited. Once they came over, and I was blown away to say the least. After that, I wanted to buy the X-box, and Halo, but we were short on funds, so I gave it a rest. About five months afterwards, I almost lost interest in ever getting the X-box. Then my brother made a whole lot of money, and we got the X-box, and Halo. I love that game.

Sure, I don't like the X-box as much as some other systems, but its worth getting just for Halo. Game of the Year indeed.

So let me say this, Halo dosen't compete with Goldeneye, it tops it... Tenfold.

Sound

The sound? Its great. you can here everything from someone walking a mile away to the vehicle thats about to run over you.

Gameplay

The gamplay is awesome. You start out on a ship and go through a tutorial-like thing. Then you fight your way out of the Pillar Of Autumn. then the level Halo comes up. the weapons are what I suggest for each type of enemy:
Covenant grunts-purple: Pistol
Covenant grunts-red: Pistol(head shots work best)
Covenant elites-blue: Assualt rifle
Covenant elites-red: Needler, melee attacks, Assualt rifle
covenant elites-silver camo: sniper rifle, needler, assualt rifle
Covenant elites-swordsmen: Sniper rifle
Covenant hunter:Pistol(i know, i know, a pistol??? simply shoot him in the small orange spot on his back. Or, when swings his metal shield, shoot his stomach)
Flood brains(the small things)-Shotgun, assualt rifle
Flood men: Shotgun
Flood cargo-men(the things that explode): Shotgun
Flugs: Shotgun, Rocket launcher
Robot defense ships: Plasma grenades, assualt rifle, Shotgun
Glass: any weapon
In multiplayer mode for poeple who's friends are real tank whores(Hi Ryan), these are the vehicles that are best against other vehicles:
Ghost is best angainst Scorpion
Scorpion is best against Warthog
Warthog is best against Ghost(the trick is to make the ghost flip, then run over the enemy).

Sound

The sound effects are very good, but the music is generally poor. Some terrible music amongst one or two good tunes. Also, it's virtually impossible to hear Cortana when she speaks during a battle. When she does talk I have to crank up the sound and then shut it down for a fight - very badly done.

Gameplay

The controller is superb and easy to play. The idea of 2 weapons is good tactically, tho I would prefer it if the pistol could be carried at all times with 2 other weapons. Being able to shoot and throw a grenade is great.

If you like run-and-shoot games this is perfect. The AI is very well done, the shoot-outs are gripping and the Flood darn creepy. I got so involved that I almost felt sorry for the Covenant forces when fighting with the Flood and floaty lazer things.

However, the game is very very repetitive, boringly so in places. There is one level where you basically fight the enemy in a circular room, kill everyone, collect weapons before moving through a zig-zag corridor in which the screen stops to load and register and then move into the next circular room. And this goes on and on. SO repetitive!

And when you get halfway through the game effectively turns tail and makes you go back through most of the levels again which is repetitive and a bit of a cheat. There should have been more variety in levels and there wasn't enough in the swamp.

Sound

The music is what drives you to play the game over and over every day. When you are nearing the end of a board or encountering many enemies the music starts to get faster and louder makin the gameplay much better. Each Marine speaks and has his own personality. Each gun has a unique making you match any gun only by the sound they make.

Gameplay

Where can I start? First and foremost the characters. Where would Halo be today with that brave and famous Master Chief. Captain Keyes, Cortana, The Covenant, The Flodd, The Marianes, Foehammer, and the whole crew of marians make the gameplay a phenominan. The boards are fantastic, giving you a variety of atmospheres and weathers. I would have to say prbobably the best part of Halo is the Multiplayer. There is nothing better than sitting home on a cold day and layin down a nice little whoop A$S. The hidden glitches are just an added feature that still bring you back to playing Halo no matter how many games you have.

Summary

HALO is a Sci-fi action/adventure game that takes you to different places.
In the very start of the game you are awaken from your ship as you play thru the eyes of Master Chief when all of a sudden your ship gets attacked by aliens (the Covenant).
From here your journey begins as you find out what the Covenant is looking for and why they want it.
Along the way you will gain knowledge all about HALO and what it really is. Many twist that will leave you question marks, but still many answers come that gives alot of surprises.

What is HALO? What is its purpose?

All of this will be answered. You. Soldier, will be the one who chooses the fate of humankind!

Overall (With Gameplay,Graphics,Music,etc):

HALO will change the way you look at FPS (First-Person-Shooter) genre. The epic story, the action, the freedom, the sounds, the action, the ai or whatever it is that you like, HALO is the comeplete package and it delivers.
This game is a MUST BUY and all the high score reviews of HALO is not mistake, when you play it you will know exactly why this game is an instant classic.

Sound

Sounds on HALO must be just the other great feature!
Never in my gaming experience not until HALO have i experienced the sounds playing with my thoughts and actions.
For one example is when soldiers talk to you. If you turn your characters head left,YOU (the person who controls the character) will hear the soldier speaking more clearly on your right ear.
I think that is very cool because detecting sounds from aliens in a room by using your ears can be very effective!
And so i give this category another high score.

Gameplay

The gameplay and freedom in HALO is just unreal.
You can attack ANY way you want. With so many weapons with different strengths and weakness the weapons you choose to go through your goals is comepletely up to you.
Whether its attacking with your fellow Marines or just doing the damage by yourself is all in your choice.

Another feature that must be talked about is the vehicles.
The vehicles on this game range from a wide variety, like the guns they all have their weakness and strenghts, some are slow yet powerful some are fast yet not too effective.
They have flying to ground vehicles to choose from. Anything you see can be driven and thats what give HALO another point on being so great.

Finally the AI (Artificial Intelligence) of the enemies.
The AI of the enemies is another huge part of HALO's sucess. No matter what day it is the battle will always be different. This right here is what its all about - Action!
The action of HALO will give you awesome and always different battles everytime.

And so, with all of this combined you will be lost for hours with reality and world of HALO. And that right there darn it is what gaming is all about!

Summary

Halo is a great game with great potential. This game is an action packed shooters with alot of booms and bangs. The reasone why this is such a great game is because its something a little bit new because you have all these cool futeristic weapons and enemies so let me tell you whats it's about. This game is about halo, a super weapon that can destroy any galaxy and ya. Well any way the machines want o acivate halo to destroy the floods. The only way to destroy the floods is to starve them. So the machines want to destroy human and the covenet with halo. So you try to destroy it. Thats basically the outline of the story. Well anyway you can drive 4 sweet vehicles called a geep, scorpion( its a tank), ghost, and a banshi. Every vehicle has a weapon mounted on it. The geep can hold 3 people on it at a time and the scorpion can hold 9 people at a time. There 3 main enemies. The flood, machines, and the covenet. The flood more dealier than the covenet becuase they are so many of them and there hard as hell to kill, but they do come in the middle. The machines are the easiest people to kill and they lack numbers. The covenet havea variety of people. Some are deadly and some easy. The easy ones are the grunts and jackals, the hard ones are the elites and hunters. Hunters are easy to kill only if you know how to kill them. what i like about this game the most is the multiplayer and xbox live.

Sound

The sound good and realistic enough. Its fun hearing the characters yell at eachother and hearing the explosions.

Gameplay

The controls are sweet because you can customise yor controlls and your player. The game runs great and smoothly, but it has a few glitches hear and there. I've only encountered 3 glitches. But thats ok. There not major. The A.I on the enemies is fantastic and the same for the marines. I think that it was a good idea to add in check points. That improved the gameplay. The phisics of the game is very high tech. This is a highly realistic game.
Another good thing about this game is that you can customise you multiplayer game. You can do alot of fun thing in the multiplayer games. You can also play with 2 players in campaign. Oh yeah and the little side movies are fun to watch.

Sound

nothing special, dolby 5.1

Gameplay

Like I said before, the first half of the levels are completely awesome. Storming the beach, driving the jeep, rolling in the tank, all outstanding. Later though, once you release the flood about halfway through the game, the levels become very repetative. You see the same rooms and environments over and over and all the coolness just drains right out of the game. When i first started to play the game i thought it was the best thing since sliced bread but maybe the lead level designer was taking a crap during the second half because thats certainly where the game went.
Halo's multiplayer experience is excellent, especially co-op. Riding in a Warthog with your best friend next to you is about the most fun you can have in the game. Split screen is also a lot of fun if you have four people but otherwise its not too great (no bots).
Gameplay was a serious letdown for the most part.

Sound

To be honest with you, I really don't listen to the sound, even though you hear some funny things being said on the hardest level. But the sound is still above par.

Gameplay

This by far is the best FPS I have ever played. But the funny thing about the game is when I first played it, I liked it, but I played it on easy. After finally beating it on the hardest setting(and believe me it took me a while) I begain to really dig this game. My reasons are for one the AI. Now don't get me wrong on the harder levels the game is hard, but not frustrating hard, but challenging hard. For example, on the hardest level of Timesplitters 2 if the computer has a sniper, you're dead in the water, you feel like you don't have a chance, where as in Halo, if you face an Elite you have a chance, mind you it will be hard, but if you die you died having a fighting chance. Yes, I'll admit some parts of the game get repeative, but you are having so much fun that you really aren't thinking about it. Lastly multiplayer is fun. IF you can get a couple of good players together than you can kill hours at a time. Now this is where I have a problem, and I guess you can say it is nit picking. With exception of one or two, the multiplayer levels are very boring to me. They seem to be plucked out of Doom or Unreal.

Sound

BOOM! This game sounds great on Dolby Surround alone, but if you have Dolby Digital 5.1, WOW! The sound will totally immerse you into the game.

Gameplay

Addictive and fun as hell. Everchanging environments, and new vehicles you strive to aquire because they are so darn fun to use, and they are not indestructible as said in the review below. In this game you can: Troop around everywhere on foot, but not necessarily the fastest :) Drive multiple types of alien vehicles, with passengers mind you. Cruise around in the flying vehicles, yes you can fly in this game. Mount stationary guns and blast the competition away! And this is the most fluid FPS on any console system. Is it a mouse and keyboard, no, but the controls are so fluid you become extremely adept at your new controls in a matter of no time.

Sound

Good. The music is done well, but as other reviewers have mentioned, sometimes during a firefight Cortana will speak but you can't hear her because of the deafening s sound of the battle. The best part of the sound is the exclamations of the Covenant grunts, especially when you throw a plasma grenade on one.

Overall, the game is a very good game. The rock-solid multiplayer makes up for the sub-par single player. If you don't already have Halo, I suggest waiting for the release on PC with 2 new weapons (I think) and online multiplayer. Also if you want a good system link game for your big, black box, this is a great LAN game.

Gameplay

The gameplay is good, but not excellent. I like the way you can only carry 2 weapons at once; it gives it a realism factor that is not present in FPS's where you keep all the weapons you pick up (Come on, how can a person store 7-10 guns, 2 of them being a rocket launcher and a grenade launcher). I also adds a strategy element that makes you decide if you really need to switch out weapons. My favorite weapon is the human piston. Anyway, the story is one of the best I have seen in a FPS. It kind of reminds me of Star Trek meets Babylon 5. That said, the single player mode gets boring after you beat it once. Sure it's challenging to try to beat it on the Legendary difficulty, but it's just not very fun once you've already beat it. This is really sad, because I would like to be interested in beating it several times. The redeeming factor in the gameplay department is the multiplayer. The multiplayer levels are cleverly designed with enough large and small maps to keep every LAN party happy. The system link compatiblity is by far the best part of the multiplayer. There's nothing better than playing a CTF game with each team having their own TV's and seperate room. Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch are also 2 extremely fun experiences over a LAN.
