And great sound effects. Who cares about the not so good graphics? I dont they sure are satisfying! OK lets get back to sound the wa that every one talks, screams (the aliens). Well it is the best.Gameplay The gameplay is terrible... not. Better than any other shooter I have ever played. So many real things! So many interactives. The cars planes tanks I mean it is great!!! Well, u get the point!Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary The game is perfect. And I have played Deus Ex or Half-Life and for any body who says they are better is definetly mistaken or misled!!! I am utturly amazed, for how many votes are like: Overall 3, Gameplay 2, Graphics 2, Sound 1. That's just wrong, people!Sound The sound like I said before is great. The aliens shout funny, the marines the AI. I mean who are u kidding? This game is an absolute MUST-HAVE!!!! Trust me.Gameplay Now, the gameplay is terrific. All the cars, tanks, alien ships, it's just amazing. The controls are challanging at first, but if u have EVER played any other console it easy and much better than using a mouse or a keyboard. Come on if u say this game is bad u probably got a cheap demo! (probably not even that!!!)Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. You can't beat this even with a game coated in gold. That was the best game ending in history.Sound GREAT!!!! Everytime we played I would have to transfer the sound from the TV to our big stereo so I could get everything out of it I could. It would be so loud my mom would constantly tell me to turn it down.Gameplay Exciting and impossible to put down. My brother and I got ALLONG in the "cooperative mode" for the first time in months. We are always fighting and arguing, but not in this game.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary On every console there is a game that you just HAVE to at least play, and on the Xbox, this game is it. Halo is arguably the best game ever released so far on the Xbox. This game actually lets you have team mates who are not complete morons(ala Half-Life). The fun factor of this game is very high also, and possibly the best part of this game is 2 player co-op mode, which makes the game a whole lot easier(ala Perfect Dark)Sound Sound is well done, the voice acting is well co-ordinated. For example, your going past the front lines into no mans land and your team mates will say "I've got your back!" and if they shoot at you by mistake they'll say "My bad!" or "Sorry!". The music is also very well done, it gives you that hunter feeling sometimes which is cool.Gameplay The gameplay is excellent for a console FPS game. This game has to be the smoothest and best looking FPS game on a console so far(seriously, who wants to run around like a moron in Half-Life, not knowing what to do).Everything is so well executed in this game, you'd think that it was made like a japanese game, but no! It's born and bred in good old US of A, which by itself stands out(coughcough3dofaliurescoughbelch). Would you like to Comment? Though their were many good ones I didn't expect all of them to make it but never none of them. I'm here to support Halo on this site. Its the best game. Hey look at the sales microsofts way ahead of nintendo and sony this year. This game and the power behind it is why.Sound awsome doby digital reciever I can hear the purple sneaks try and kill me from behind with their jets.Gameplay Yes, its even better than half life. The levels are huge and the aliens you fight are actually smart. You can hide sneak up on people and they even give you various weapons and vechicles to kill people with as well. Excellent replay value and great on multi player as well.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary This is the reson to Buy a X-Box Halo is by far the best FPS i have ever played this game is truly amazing,Now for ever one who is bashing all the systems let me say i have all of them and non of them stink there all cool, But PS2 is by far the best system right now maybe later in 2002 that could change, But too me right now i like the X-box better then Gamecube because of one game Halo! This game is truly amazing easly one of the best games of 2001 if not the Best game of 2001, Overall i give this game 1-10 a 10!Sound Sound is perfict amazing from gun fire to the aliens funny talking that sound like the Jawas From Star Wars=) Overall i give sound 1-10 a 10+Gameplay The gameplay in Halo is awesome the single player is awesome but the multeplayer is what makes the gamplay a 10 here, I always wanted to go on missions with a friend and embush enemys and make a trap for the bad guys and in Halo you can do that co op mode the biggist high light in Halo also the death matchs in Halo is awesome as well me and my friend battle for hours with jeeps in this cool level hidding behide rocks and snipering the Multeplayer Death matchs are the best yet on a consol shooter, And on top of that single player is amazing too awesome war fights you can get in but nothing beats doing the missons with a friend,I give the Gameplay (single player 1-10 i give it 8/ Multeplayer 1-10 i give it a 10+) Over all 1-10 i give it 9/Would you like to Comment? Summary This Game is filled with long and exciting missions. I've played many games before, but none with A.I Enemies. I had to change all my tactics because they were caughting on to me.Sound The sound is cool. I like how the marines will really talk to you. If I had surround sound in my house. My house would shake like hell.Gameplay The Game is long, but if you like shotting aliens and driving in the jeeps. Then this game is for you. Just make sure not to kill and marines. Or they will kill you or curse you out.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary Easily the best FPS ever with good visuals and great gameplay. The single-player "campaign" is fun but you can run through it easily in a fairly decent amount of time. Multi-player modes aren't the best because you can't have bots but I still want to find four other people with an XBox, Halo and 3 other friends so I can see the 16 player multi-player in action. But, as I stated above, it is the best FPS ever.Sound The bass on the plasma weapons is a bit superfluous but then again we don't have those weapons so the people at Bungie can make them sound however the hell they want. The crashes for the Banshee sound like they were taken straight from one of Microsoft's Fight Sim games but they work just the same. Overall great sound on my new Aiwa surround sound system.Gameplay The gameplay takes a while to get used to especially if you've spent your last year playing PS2. But I actually think that its harder to go back to the PS2 controller than it is to go to the XBox controller from the PS2 controller. The white button turns on the flashlight, the black button switches grenades, Y switches weapons, X does almost anything plus it reloads and swaps weapons, A jumps and B is a melee attack for when you have a weapon or no ammo or sneak up behind the covenant and smack them in the back. The analog sticks do your moving, the left trigger throws grenades or uses secondary weapons in the Scorpion or Banshee and the right trigger shoots and fires the main weapon on all vehicles. All in all the gameplay is very good.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary All I have to say is that this is the greatest video game for not only Xbox but for every game system out there. The graphics are incredible, the gameplay is outstanding, and the Sound is just so good. I beat Halo and the ending is great. If you beat it and think to yourself you'll think "you know who would ever come up with such a spectacular plot. I mean who would ever come up with the story that you are trying to lead the covenent away from earth and you fly out of the Pillar of Automn and land on a mysterious landmark that you must find the controll center for and destroy. I mean the people of Bungie are geniuses. Thats all that I can really say!!Sound The sound hmmm....well whoever came up with the music and sound is a genius. when your about to beat a level the music gets tense and may scare you sometimes but the sound takes part in what makes this a great game.Gameplay The gameplay is great. You can only hold two guns which is actually realistic unlike 007 where you can have like 20 guns at the same time. Plus you kill aliens and crap. It's just incredible.Would you like to Comment? Summary Overall, this game exceeds all of what I expected prior to purchase.Unfortuanelty, it doesn't deserve all of the perfect scores and all of the praise that it receives. Halo is a great game that it's game engine alone is worth buying. But due to the few faults that Bungie included in this game, it fails to receive the title of perfect. There are many reasons for why I formulate this decision. For one, the level design. Despite, the beauty of each level and the amount of detail amounted to everything. they are both long and often repetuous. Many times you will walk through 5 different areas that are exactly alike. And to make it worst, many of the levels are as much as an hour long (even with my borther in co-op mode, on normal difficulty, and with the knowledge on how to beat the level!). This is one reason why I loved Goldeneye so much, you could turn on your system and play a level for ten minutes and do something else. But you can't with this game. This game also lack variety. With only ten guns (2 pistols, 2 machine guns, 2 grenades, 1 rocket launcher, 1 shotgun, 1 sniper rifle, and 1 weird gun called a needler) and only 7 enemies including the ones from the hiden race introduced half way through the game, it fails to provide you with unlimited replay value. But don't think because of my long desciption of its flaws that this game is not worth buying. This is a great game that is a must buy for anyone, even if they're like me and hate sci-fi stuff.Sound When I first played my Xbox, my sound wasn't working. At first, I played it anyways, and Halo was still fun. But now that it's fixed, it's a load better. The voices from nearby allies and enemies, provides a lot more realism to the gameplay. And the music fits great with the current situation. Good job Bungie.Gameplay Halo's engine is the best I've every come across. The enemy AI, the realism provided by the amount of strategy required, and the revolutionary ideas that add up to what could of been the best game made, given that the player would have a good enough level. But what does aquire the "perfect" status is the multiplayer. Soon (maybe even now) with the ability for internet play, this game will tear up all competition. Finally a game that allows the player to use grenades without having to change back to your gun. Other then half life, this game is unrivaled in this department. As noted before the AI is amazing. Enemies will retreat when outnumbered, avoid you by running around boulders to recharge their shields, and even utiltize military maneuvers suchs as flanking when the chance is provided. Two thumbs up! Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Rating Reviewed By Carey GraysonFrom Portland, OR Review Date 01/04/2002 Overall Rating ![]() 5 of 5 Rate this review? Summary Overall, I really liked this game. My intial impression about halfway through the game was, "Gawd, this game rocks!" The stunning panoramic landscapes, the near perfect AI interaction, and those goddam beautiful ATVs, it was just great. But as I played on, those elements that made it fun and exciting kind of got left behind, so hence the less than perfect score. Also, and this is more of an XBox dig, I didn't care for the button layout. They're too close together and when I was trying to toss a grenade, I'd be jumping instead. This is a must have game for your XBox!!!Sound I have my XBox hooked up to my Surround Sound system and does it sound great. No, awesome.Gameplay Like I said, about halfway through the game, you move from the beautifully landscaped exteriors-where you can climb aboard ATVs and pick up team players who help you lay waste to the alien hoards, to the oft repeated architecture interiors where you fight hoards of beasties mostly alone. The interiors also seem to repeat themselves a lot. I often got the feeling I was running in circles. Still, it is fun stuff, and the best action game I have seen since Half-Life. More teamplay would have made even better.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Rating Reviewed By Canadian Bacon Johnny BegoodFrom Toronto, Canada Review Date 01/04/2002 Overall Rating ![]() 5 of 5 Rate this review? Summary Where'd this game come from? I'm not one for FPS games (except goldeneye for n64 of course), but Halo surprised the hell out of me. I thought it would be another one of those Doom/Quake games but it wasn't. Sure, it's still an FPS and plays like a PC game, but the realism and strategies involved are outstanding. The co-op mode (two player missions) is probably the best part of the game. It felt like the good old days when I used to play Contra with a partner and get hooked on the two player mode.I was waiting for the day when a game would come out that could exceed the greatness of Goldeneye64. Well the wait has ended. Probably the best FPS console game ever made, Halo has arrived. Sound I am not kidding people, this game has probably the best sound I have ever heard in a game. Maybe I don't play enough games, but what other game could you actually distinguish the enemies location by hearing their voice? Not only can you tell if they are far or near, but you can also tell if they are ahead, behind, left, or right of you. When the rest of the crew is yelling at you they sound pretty much authentic. I can hear their voices perfectly and they do a pretty good acting job (aside from the cinematic scenes which were kind of laughable at times).Gameplay Beautiful gameplay. It felt like I was actually IN the game as the cheif commander of the fleet. I know that sounds corny but it's true. The soldiers run up to you and warn you of upcoming danger, telling you where to go, and all that other cool stuff. The enemy AI is another good point. They're not the usual enemies that stand out in the open and stay planted on the ground waiting to be shot. These guys run around, warn their partners of trouble arising, hide, and run away whenever out numbered. It's amazing stuff here. But as I was saying before, the two player mission mode is outstanding. Especially when using the vehicle. You have one player driving while the other's shooting, it's some fun stuff. Just the other day I was playing with my brother and I was driving while he was shooting. I had trouble driving the thing (it requires a little getting used to) so I kept killing him by accident. I ran over him about 3 times and inadvertantly drove off a cliff (I managed to jump off the vehicle but he had no time so he just flew off the cliff with it). It was a shame to die so many times but it was some hilarious stuff. Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary This game is out standing, I have played a lot of first person shooters but none that can match this. In my opinion half-life is a game that is outmatched in everyway, in fact every first person shooter i've played doesn't even compare to this!I would recommend anyone who has an xbox and loves first person shooters to pick this game up. Even if your not a fan of fps try this game it will change your mind about what you think about fps games! I give halo a (5) of (5) incredible game!Sound Amazing sound music, everything from distant sounds to in your face sounds. It's incredible. I have 5.1 dolby digial sound on my stero and big screen, even though i haven't tried it yet i'm sure it's amzing.Gameplay Fanatastic gameplay solid AI, gets a little choppy in co-op with vehicles and buildings. But overal the best damn game you will ever play.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Rating Reviewed By Matthew W. Get to the escape pods!Ahh, welcome to the world of Halo. You are the master chief and it is your job to put a stop to the Covenant which you will meet soon enough. Sound A game like this wouldn't be great without a great soundtrack. The songs are awesome. They'll keep you on your toes and wake you up when you thought it was over.Let's not forget dialogue. The voice acting is pretty good and so are the aliens'. I must admit my only gripe was that I couldn't hear some of the characters voices well, but then one day I'll have a great surround sound stereo system, I hope! Gameplay This is not your average FPS (First-person shooter). My roommate uses the phrase, "run and gun". While you may be doing alot of this, I must say that strategy is key to most situations. Many of you who have or will play Halo have most likely played Half-Life. I loved Half-Life but what seperates this game from others is the added realism this game has. I'm not talking graphics. We'll get to that later. I'm referring to one specific thing. Carry weight. In the game Halo, you are allowed to carry just two guns, and two sets of grenades, (eight total) at any given time. This may piss you off but if you are the kind of gamer that gives a game a poor rating for something like this or something like, "This game is too hard!" then I suggest a good game of Half-Life. Fortunately there are four great difficulty modes: Easy, normal, heroic, and legendary. These modes adjust the amount of aliens and the amount of damage they take. The covenant are sometimes stupid, but many times they will psyche you out. Now, when I first played Halo, I started on the setting of Normal. After finishing the game I decided to go straight to Legendary which can bring many hours of enjoyment and cursing. Let's discuss weapons. You can use both human and covenant. I don't want to give it away but yes, there is a sniper rifle and yes, it is bad as hell. Another great thing in this this FPS is that you can use vehicles and aircraft to gun down your enemies. Again you're allowed to use both human and covenant machines. You're not alone in this. Occasionally, throughout the game, you'll fight side by side with your marines. They're not much help, as they are only human, but if you can get them into, say, a Warthog, you're in for a great time. The warthog is my favorite vehicle. Looks like a futuristic version of a hummer. Find one of these, get in the drivers seat, make sure a couple of marines get in with you (one riding shotgun and one on the rotational .50 caliber machine gun), and you'll get so sucked in you'll be dreaming, Halo. Overall, the gameplay is great. I must admit when I first bought my Xbox, the controller put up a great fight. I had a terrific time getting used to the controls. One stick moves the master chief's movements left, right, up, and down. The other moves the camera angle. It may sound complicated but give it time. You may end up liking it better than a keyboard and mouse. Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I must admit, i thought the reviews for this game were just a bunch of bull, hell i thought the xbox was bull. but now that i have the xbox and finally played this game, i know better from now on not to judge before play, i never got into a game like this and in such a long time. I first thinking about this game is that its just another FPS something slimlar to perfect dark of N64, but this game blows perfect dark out of the water, the ability to switch to a 3rd person view and drive vechices is just amazing. The music, sounds, and voices of the charcters are almost as real as movie.Sound This is a game i could actually tell a difference, besides like voices, i mean actual sound was better, halo is loud, i swear just that little beginning entrance i got to turn my system down everytime.Gameplay Even with that silly xbox controller the gameplay isnt bad at all. The mulitplayer is off the hook for this game, you havent experienced the mulitplayer for this game if you havent gone in with 16 players. There is a game center in my town that has 4 xboxes hook up to big screen tvs and its just too cool to roll up in that warthog jeep with your friends to kill other people lol.Would you like to Comment? They look real, and there is such a variety of rifles, alien guns, etc. There are also warhogs that help you run over aliens. This is simply the best shooter in the market. In this game, you try protecting the human race from alien content. There are many types of aliens, big or small, powerful and weak. They are transported by ships going across the land searching for surviviors. Then they find you, they land right on the spot and run after you. You constantly look over your shoulder. There are also many environments from inside ships or command centers, to outside in the field. This game is a MUST buy for any XBOX owner.Sound Sound is lively as well. The surround sound helps you to indicate where an alien is and how they are approaching you. Their foot steps are low and sneeky. When you do find them, the sound of the rifle hitting thier hard bodies, you feel right at home. Sound is great and realistic.Gameplay Gameplay is where Halo is at its best. Let me start off with the Multiplayer. It can run from 2-16 players. You can choose from over 10 places to fight and there are about 20 modes of play, such as King of the Hill. This is a very unique type of play. In this mode you control a certain area for 2 minutes. You kill each other for control. There are many other types of gameplay such as classic deathmatch, etc. In multiplayer you can verse each other or verse the aliens. There are so many things to do, you should be busy for a least a year.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary I have had this game since day one.And I still play it constantly. The day I got it my friend came over we played from five that afternoon to six in the morning. We absoulutly could not stop playing. The next day after we woke up to screaming wifes mad at us for being up all night he came right back over and you guessed it we were up until six in the morning again. This game is just to good.Sound The sound is just shattering. hook up dolby digital and here the aliens try to sneak around you only for you to turn around and blast them. The grenades go off and the neighbors call up wanting to know what the heck was that. The sound is that good.Gameplay The gameplay is brillant. The controlls are so good you will feel like your holding a plasma rifle right there in your own living room. The vehicles are a little touchy at first(remember to look at the blue arrow while driving. Which ever way it is pointing is the way your vehicle will travel)but once you get used to it it is awesome. The A.I. is some of no scratch that it is the best i've ever seen. The covenent never do the same thing twice. They will sneak up on you, attack you in groups, they will even use one for bait just to draw you into their commrads line of fire. The multiplayer is so good my friend and I are actually thinking about renting out a office in town setting up a network and having 16 player halo tourneys with prize money. We have already hosted 8 player tourneys at his house and it was the most fun playing a game i've ever had. You owe to yourself to get this game it is equally good wether your by yourself our with friends.Would you like to Comment?
