Sound

What i thought was something that halo did that i feel no else has done better was the use of the vibration in the controler. The gun fire and the explosions, where dead on an other events durning game play intremingled flawlessly you got to close to the reactor you whould hear the sound an feel a low rumble then closer louder the sound the stronger the rumble. (yes i now this has been done before but not better than this).

Gameplay

I will make this short, others have gone into detail with the other reviews(some good writers here)explaining the mechanics of the game. This game at points made me laugh ( in co-op playing with my brother the first time an jumpping out of the wart hog an throwing a plasma gernade, then watching it blowup in the air killing him to,with my neighbor havin a dog fight in the air with each other in banshees, an when by myself the first time seeing the flood feeling like i am in an alein movie an i am bill paxton, saying to myself ohhhh sh-- ohhh sh-- circling around with my automatic rifle.)lmao someone reading this yeah right short the idiot keeps writting. My main point is within the game there will be great moments just like a great movie that you remember long after shut off the green light.

Summary

One of the Xbox’s highest profile games of the year, Halo proves to be an amazing adventure that you will never forget (until a sequel arrives, that is!). With beautiful graphics, a unbelievably well-scripted storyline, and great music, Halo is a must buy for any FPS fan.
Halo’s story works beatifully with the game. As soon as you start getting comfortable in the world of Halo, the plot takes a nasty twist leaving you in the dark if you don’t think quick enough. The year is around 2500 and the human race is being destroyed by an alliance of alien races, known as the Covenant, who in religious devotion believe humans a threat. The covenant for over 30 years have been successful, and few humans survive to tell about them. But, with military technology, a handful of cyborg super soldiers has been created to knock off the Covenant. The project is known as Spartan II. On the human colony of Reach, the soldiers are ready for defrosting, but a Covenant sneak attack destroys all but one soldier. In a desperate attempt to lure the aliens away from Earth, one ship, the Pillar of Autumn and it’s commander Jacob Keyes tries to escape off into space. Unbelievably, the whole Covenant army follows. You are the last remaining super soldier, known as Master Chief.
Halo is the kind of game that you can’t put down, that sets a new tone for first person shooters, and that will be a measure for other games to be. Hands down…it is the Xbox’s greatest game to date, and the best FPS to date.

Sound

The music is no John Williams (Star Wars), but you will fully appreciate it at the last level, when all odds are against you, you are by yourself, and you must make a daring escape. The pulse pounding score is beatifully constructed, and although an album may not be a best-seller, it is definitely movie-quality music. The main theme is especially good. The gunfire for each gun is also realistic, and if you own a Dolby 5.1 surround sound, you are in for a ride! Halo is one game that you won't want to turn off the sound for. Also, the voice overs are done extremely well, and no lines ever get cheesy. The voice actors all do awesome jobs, making Halo even better.

Gameplay

Probably the only part where Halo isn’t perfect is control. Although the ground combat is easy to control, the vehicles are a different story. The vehicles actually always stay to the center of the screen, and you must pan the screen with the right joystick to turn. With practice, you should be able to get the hand of it, but in levels where you must drive throught obstacles, whatever skills you learned in Gran Turismo 3 won't work here. As for ground combat, Halo is very good. The limit of 2 weapons is more of a strategy-inducing element than a pain, and don't listen to anyone who says it is. After all, in real life Marines don't carry 12 weapons with them at a time. The melee attack in Halo is also a good addition when you don't want to reload, but it is bit too powerful. In multiplayer mode, this can get very frustrating. Each gun's advantages and disadvantages are well-defined through Halo's gameplay. The controls for grenades, etc. are also well mapped on the Xbox's controller.

Summary

Is Halo the best first-person shooter ever to appear on a console? Yes. Is it the best first-person shooter ever to appear anywhere?
Yes. The gameplay is exciting. The graphics are jaw-dropping. The monster AI is scary and damn effective. The sound is great. The overall experience is totally immersive. Hell, even the plot is interesting and well-done!

The only bad parts are (1) there is no mini-map which can get confusing at times and (2) the levels don't have a lot of replay value (except to remind yourself how unbelievably good this game is).

Nonetheless, this is the best Xbox game that I have seen so far, and I have rented everything at Blockbuster and at Hollywood Video. Bungie worked hard at this game, they didn't cut corners anywhere and I gladly give them my $50 for such an awesome game. I would even pay them the $50 if it was shareware, the game is that good.

Sound

The sound effects are also fantastic, totally immersive. The music is great, it seems to capture the spirit of the gameplay. Up-tempo music after you finish a particularly difficult section, and eerie music when you are in a creepy section.

Gameplay

Control is highly intuitive and effective. Left joystick for position and right joystick for orientation; left trigger for grenade and right trigger for weapon. You can play up to four
people at the same time on the same console,
either cooperatively or competitively.

The best part is that you can drive the vehicles and it is a total blast! When you drive the jeep, NPCs jump into the passanger seat and man the 50 calibur machine gun. When you drive the tank, the NPCs ride along and provide highly effective anti-infantry defense. You can also fly the Alien plane, strafing ground targets and dogfighting with aliens in their planes. That is the highlight of the game.

Sound

Sharp release of steam, hydraulic system lowers the rear gate of the dropship Foehammer, and off you go, blasting your little carbine rifle at the covenant baddies. You can even hear the frightened little beasties yelling for help as you rain bullets onto them. The sound effects for the guns are also that good, especially the plasma rifle. You can even hear the blue bursts of energy sizzling into the metal walls when you miss the target. Also, very good engine humming in the Warthog (favorite vehicle =) and awesome chaingun sounds. Remember T2 Judgement day? picture that big piece arnold had ridin in the back of a humvee-esque beast machine. can you say . . . HALO 0wnz? I think you can

Gameplay

r0ck. That is all this game knows how to do. From the first part of the game, when you are running madly through the Pillar of Autumn, evading the plasma blasts from the covenant boarding party, all the way up to the r0ckin finale, this game 0wnz the boxers of all who play it and witness its glory. The controls, altough a little difficult to grasp at first, are actually very reminiscent of the PC. Only, no mouse. You use one stick (left) to move your character backward and forward, or to strafe, while you use the other stick to free-look\aim. It requires a degree of coordination, but nothing like juggling 6 tennis balls. The firing of weapons and throwing of grenades is handled by the triggers, simple, and effective. The rest of the massive controller is devoted to basic stuff, (use, jump, reload, etc.)couple that with vibrations, and it works out very well.
However, all-sides r0ckin combat sequences are not the reason to buy this game. The reason is 2 player co-op. My bro and I ripped through this game over the period of a week or so, then we did it all over again. 2 player co-op is RIDICULOUSLY fun. just split the screen across the center, share ammo and junk, and watch the bullets fly. Every bit as much fun and more as playing an online game. r0ck on HALO

Summary

The year is 2552. Earth, is at war with an alien race named the Covenant. Above the Covenant's planet is a giant ring with its own world and atmosphere called Halo. The Marines which is the Earth's soldiers fight day and night with these aliens. The leader of the Earth's army would be Captain Jacob Keyes, a captain with his twenty-six career in the army has earned him respect by his soldiers fighting for him. He commands the spaceship the Pillar of Autumn which the games starts on. Earth seems to be losing the battle, but they still have you. On the Pillar of Autumn the Marines were making genectically-engineered cyborgs. All of the cyborgs were destroyed by the Covenant except for one which would be you. You take control of Master Chief, a half human half cyborg soldier who is the master of any weapon and pilot of any vehicle. Master Chief is Earth's last hope so get this game, fight for Earth, and unlock the mysteries of Halo.

Sound

The sound in Halo makes you feel like your right on the battle field with the real life sounds of explosions, ships flying around, and guns being fired. The Covenant if they see you will run off and warn others that you coming for them. Also the same with Marines they will warn you if they see something you may not have seen. They will also talk to you about stuff happening around. You will also hear other marines that might be far away from you warn you about stuff through two way radios built in your suit of armor Master Chief has on. In other words the sound is amazing.

Gameplay

Gameplay is spectacular. The variety of weapons and vehicles really make this game a keeper for first person shooter game fans. Also the variety of enemies you ahve to fight makes this challenging. There's some weak Covenant and some very powerful Covenant. The A.I. for the Marines and the enemies is the best A.I. I have ever seen. I mean if you throw a grenade the enemies and your Marines will try to avoid it which makes the game challenging and very good. The one flaw of Halo is the control. The control takes some getting used to. Like you have to move with one analog stick, and look around with the other. Same with the vehicles one analog stick to steer, one to move the vehicle. Yet once you get the controls right you will be shooting down aliens left and right.

Sound

The first time I loaded HALO the first thing that I noticed other than the sweet graphics was the music.HALOs epic quality music from the title screen on engulfed me.The music gets the job done. The pieces are played at the right times enabling you to feel the tone of the scene.(creepy,accomplishment,etc.)All the sounds on the battle field are that of what would be a real one.Aircraft flying above, gun fire, footsteps it's all there. The Marines and Covenant screaming in pain all of which is real. When a fellow Marine is hit by a plasma blast he screams "It burns,it burns make it stop!".Again it's all there and it's just down right sweet.Only one gripe when a small Covenant grunt talks he sounds like an Ewok although this is a small gripe however it is kinda amusing and does kinda help to here that during all the sounds of pain around you.(LOL).

Gameplay

The moment you start off in the mist of the Covenant take over of your Command ship The Pillar Of Autumn you'll be sucked right in.I will say this though the controls may take some getting use to(in a short period of time) HOWEVER once you master them you'll have no problem.Gamers may find SOME if only ONE problem with the controls. The only one thing I did have with the controls is that I found driving my Warthog is a little hard (1 analog stick to steer and the other analog stick to move the Hog). Controlling turns and getting out of a corner in reverse. This is a small gripe though. I do like the Hog beings it gives you a chance to view the game in 3rd person for a little change. The AI in this game ROCKS the COMP characters both good and bad react as they would in life.Your fellow Marines are the best allied AI I've teamed up with in any FPS.They actually keep up with you and do things to help you out, like calling out to you what they see ahead of them and doing thier fair share of kills. If a Covenant spots you he may momentarily retreat only to come back with some reinforcements or if he sees your grenade land near him he and your fellow marines both will run and take cover. These COMPS are actually smart.CO-OP play and multiplayer are very worthy aswell.Playing in these modes can be as fun as playing online. In CO-OP running through this game with your friend there next to you can really get your blood pumping and the bullets flying.Heck! even a bot mode (which usually isnt always that fun)would have worked well in this game!Bottom line: the AI is great!

Sound

The intro music is kinda annoying, but I think I can live with that.

Gameplay

Wonderful story line! When I was watching the intro of the story, Halflife and other human vs. alien games came into my mind, and I was like, "darn... this again?" But quickly, my feeling toward this game got a 180 degree change when the computer-controlled soldiers followed me and fight aliens with me. "Wow, there is teamwork in this game!"
The interesting twist in the middle of the game really suprised me and sucked me into playing this game until I finish it. The twist gives you the resident evil kind of feeling that Halflife can't give you.
The game would be perfect if there were more weapon choices. Simpily, pistol, machine gun, shot gun, and rocket lanucher are not enough for me, I want some more creative weapons (same for the alien too)
However, the last stage of the game, (when you have to drive your car to a waypoint in a limited time could overcome all the not-so-perfect points in this game.

Sound

In a game you dont notice much of the backround noises unless its part of the level. In Halo, you quickly find yourself laugh at the poor covenant grunts high pichted screams as you put you rifle to the back of there head. You hear the elites evil laugh as they put holes through your shields. In Halo, listening to the sounds is party of the fun.

Gameplay

Halo's controls are beautifly designed. For the first time, I can circle-strafe without re-adjusting my hands. You can jump, crouch, and bash alien scum without care. If you always have had trouble with controls, Halo is THE exception.

In the game you mow-down grunts, bash jackals, shoot elites, and carfully shoot hunters. All in one of Halo's levels. Halo has many long levels but that is okay because they are all split up into multiple checkpoints where you can save and quit. People who favor "rambo" style fighting will quickly find themselves liking Halo's quick respawn time. It takes stragtegy as wel as skill to win this game.

Sound

Sound is near perfect. The sound FX ARE perfect, different people have different accents ( the mexican, texan and austraulian ones can be hilarious), and each accent type has several hundred lines. The humans sometimes talk to each other. The largest weak point would probably the lack of lines for the computer players, and how incedibly annoying (though sometimes funny) the grunts can get after a while.

Gameplay

The gameplay is fast paced, yet stealthy and strategic, and generally very fun. The biggest fault in it would be that far too much of the game takes place indoors, whild most of the game's best sequences take place outdoors, often with the vehicles. The indoor environments, while fun, are very repititious, and in some levels it seems like youre going through the exact same place over and over again. Oh, and did I meantion the AI is almost perfect?

And about the vehicles; though vehicles have been done in FPS's before, they have never been done as well as in halo. The vehicles don't seem in any way tacked on, and they are very balanced with each o
