Sound

The soud for this game are ok but they need to think of some new genres. Its stupid how they play the same thing over and over. This could ruin the good gameplay if you think about it. Good music and Good gameplay equals awesome game. If the game sucks but has good music I might just play the game to listen to the music.

Gameplay

The gameplay is ok for one player but it gets really old after a while. It is just like the other two mario karts but with more levels. Another thing is that it doesnt have one of the greatest if not the greatest driver on the game,KOOPA. Ill give it some credit for the thought of the single-pak option for two player. But it stinks that u dont get two choose who you get. Other than that the gameplay for this game is very basic, like I said before. I only will play this game to kick the crap out of my friends and make them eat the dust.

Sound

The sound is pretty good for a GBA game. You here the characters talk as they zoom past you....or you zoom past them. ;) They each have different voices. The SNES tracks have the same music as they did on the SNES, which is pretty nice.

Overall: 4.2/5.0

Gameplay

The gameplay is pretty good. You have lightwieghts like Yoshi, Peach and Toad. You have middleweights like Mario and Luigi. Then you have Heavyweights like Bowser, Wario and Donkey Kong. I prefer the light to middlewieghts, if you get really good then you might move on to the heavyweights.
You have 5 different cups after you bet them, go back and beat them again and get 100 coins to earn all the SNES tracks. Most of the tracks are really good. Some of them, like Snow land, seem to powerful for the system and the game kind of bounces or something like that. It's strange. The tracks are all good with lots of detail.

Gameplay: 4.3/5.0

Summary

PROS: It is a revival of Super Mario Kart...only it fits in your pocket with improved graphics, sound, and unchanged controlls. You get the whole screen to yourself!
CONS: No rearview mirror or hills.

This game reminds me of that trusty Super Nintendo classic that I get back in 1992. That was the first 16-bit racer that I enjoyed. The game was Super Mario Kart for the Super NES. This is a game with rotating mode-7 graphics which puts in more reality.

There were eight players to choose from: Mario, Luigi, Princess toadstool, Toad, Donkey Kong, Bowser, Yoshi, and Koopa Troopa. The eight people raced on a five-lap course. From tha lavas of Bowser's castle to the colors of Mario Circuit, the tracks contains of twists, turns, and jumps.

Then, technology went on. When the Nintendo 64 came out in 1996, Nintendo has said that technology has taken a new era, and it is time to polish up the racing game. So, Nintendo made a game called, "Mario Kart 64" on the Nintendo 64, the graphics showed. There was no longer the flat-land road. They were putting hills in the tracks, putting more twists in to the game, such as jumping off high platforms and climbing hills. They also replaced Koopa with Wario.

Now, the Game Boy Advance came out. Since the GBA can do all the stuff that a Super NES can, plus more, Nintendo decided to shrink this thing down. Now, I can carry this game around. So, no matter how far away from home I am, I can enjoy this racing action, wheather I am in the living room or I am on the plane. This game sure brings back memories...right in my own pocket!

-----My companion: Kano's review-----
It's Super Mario Kart...in your pocket! All the characters from the previewous version (I like for them to bring back Koopa Troopa.) If you like the previewous Mario Kart games, then you will love this game. Try this out, even if you have not played this before. It is like playing Mario Kart 64 in your pocket! The only downside is that there are no hills.

[OVERALL: 5/5, GAMEPLAY: 5/5, GRAPHICS: 5/5, SOUND: 5/5]

Sound

They have improved the sound and music from the Super NES. The engines sounds more like real then it's Super NES cousin. They have also made the music better and different. It makes the music on the Super NES sound more like that it's been done in just a few days. In other words, the music on this game has more notes per chord, plus it is more pumped up then it's old cousin.

The sounds look more real then the SNES Mario Kart. The Mario Kart SNES compared to this is more like a unrealistic humming sound, while the sounds on this game are more like a gas engine from a real go-cart. The technology really shows how far it went during those Mario Kart years and it will continue to change in the years to come. Inmagine what the next Mario Kart game on the Gamecube would look and sound like.

Gameplay

Gameplay resembles the same play as it's old Super NES cousin: A for gas, B for brake, L for use of item, and R for hop. If you know how to play the Super NES Mario Kart, then you know how to play this game. Collect coins and powerups. Shoot other players out of the line. Race to the checkered flag. That is Super Mario Kart. Only this time, it fits right in your pocket.

Summary

I was a little weary of buying this game at first, the original Super Mario Kart was one of the best games for the SNES and INVENTED the now totally ripped off character kart racing sub-genre that's now applied to everything from Star Wars to Smurfs. The last thing I ever wanted to see was ANOTHER kart racer fiasco, but I gave Nintendo the benefit of the doubt because it originated the species, and I really did enjoy the SNES original 8 years ago.

I'm glad I did. This is clearly the best racer on the GBA so far, superior to both F-Zero and Konami Krazy Racers and my early pick for GBA title of the year due to the sheer depth of gameplay and replay value. It's practically the complete package and there's tons of value in picking up this title. It's also a very compelling reason to own a GBA if you don't have one yet.

Sound

Here is where there are better games, Castlevania and Iridion 3-D still set the top of the bar for GBA sound, but each kart does sound totally different. Toad's machine sounds like a lawnmower at redline, while Bowser sounds like a diesel truck ready to haul. They even have different horn sounds with the Select button. The soundtrack is actually pretty good for a racer title and the FX are well done, the voice samples are annoying however.

BOTTOM LINE: Easily the best reason to buy a GBA yet, Mario Kart Super Circuit will be in your GBA for a long time to come. If you ever enjoyed Super Mario Kart or Mario Kart 64, you'll love this game. If you've not picked up a racer for the GBA yet, skip Konami Krazy Racers and even F-Zero and pick this up instead.

Gameplay

Gameplay is simple enough: You chose your racer from one of eight characters ranging from Yoshi to Bowser and race. Each kart is noteably different in handling, acceleration, top speed, and weight and it shows. For instance, Yoshi is the lightest kart and slides easily over dirt and ice with superior acceleration. Toad corners like he's on rails, Wario has a pig of a kart but his top speed is blistering, and Mario is balanced across the board. The coins on the track make their return from the SNES version of the game, you need coins to increase your top speed. Getting bumped or shot by a weapon, spinning out, falling off the track all cost you coins, and if you run out, the slightest tap will wreck your kart. Making it through each track while collecting coins is difficult, even more so at the tougher 100cc and 150cc classes where a mistake will put you from 1st to 8th.

Replay options are almost endless, with 16 tracks to open and and 4 more to obtain in Special Cup, then another 20 tracks to get in each Cup for a total of 40 tracks at 3 different difficulties...and that's just single player. Battle Mode is here and it's a lot of fun, my friend and I slugged it out for an hour. You can race a limited version with one game pak and up to 3 friends, but even that's a nice touch and there are plenty of them in this game. It's well thought out and the tracks are short but filled with hazards and weapons. Overall this game is a lot of fun and the control scheme is well done.

Sound

The sound isnt bad either dont be expecting like stereo system quality but with a pair of headphones there good. I never thought they could make actual voices play clear on a gameboy system but they did it on this on you hear mario say "letsa go!" I remember pokemon pinball pikachu would try and say his name but it can out all scratchy and crapy!!!!

Gameplay

OK the game play isnt bad, like I said befor its just like Mario Kart 64 game play and all!!!! Steering may be hard to get used to at first but they have characters that are easier to steer with for all you begginers out there!!! Now for the expert racers heavier characters are more of a challenge to control. Now one thing i have to make clear, people with big hands... the gameboy advance is not for you, i dont really have big hands and i found trouble pushing the L1 and R1 buttons thats the only prob.

Summary

Mariokart is a kart racing game for those people who don't know. 8 characters are available, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Toad, Wario, Yoshi and Donkey Kong. There are 3 difficulty levles, 50CC, 100CC and 150CC each more difficult then the next, but you knew that already. There are 16 tracks to begin with, divided into 4 GP's, each with 4 tracks. When all 4 GPs are beat, this opens up the Star Cup, which has 4 more tracks. There is also a ranking system, A,B,C,D,E (i don't really know them all, but i got a D and C before). There is also an abundant amount of coins on each course. There are several ways to open up tracks, including getting good rankings and such. Basically, if you finish in the Top4 with 100 coins (A RATE) you open up some tracks. All the SNES tracks are in the game as well, and it can be hard to open them up. The multiplayer mode is nifty as well. With one cart and 4 players, each player gets to be a differently colored Yoshi character. There are 4 SNES tracks to play through, but no battle mode with the one cart configuration. With 2 carts/2 players or 4 carts/2 players, the battle mode comes up. There are also 4 battle arenas.

Sound

The music is good and all, but the character voices can be annoying. Mario, Bowser, and Donkey Kong retain the N64 character voices, and sound good, but Toad, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi and Wario have the Japanese voices which sound terrible. The question is why Nintendo didn't incorporate N64 voicing services. Nintendo definately should have and definately could have. The music is good though.

Gameplay

The game is differntly from the N64 and SNES versions as teh control is somewhat different, but its easy to get into and is fun. There are 3 divisions, heavy weight (DK, Bowser, and Wario), Middle Weight (Mario and Luigi) and Lightweight (Toad, Peach and YOSHI). Characters drive differently and the difference can be felt. Powerup weapons are also available, which is standard Mariokart fare as well as many objects on each track that will slow you down.
