Summary

Not a hardcore gamer or ever played the PC version but have heard alot about it over the years. So when the Xbox version came out, I decided to try it out and see what all the hoop-la was all about. In a nut-shell, it's a very simple concept game that is surprisingly addictive. There is not much more you can say about that. You pick a side, start from a "home-base" and play a seek and destroy until one side wins. Not much more to it then that. What I do like is, once you are dead, you are dead until the game is over and start all over again. I will say, if you don't have Xbox Live, this game is not worth getting. Single player version is nothing more then a place to hone your aiming skills for online play. No missions involved, just get up and go type of play. For Xbox Live, it's great, get to play with folks from all over the world and try real-time team tactics with people who are willing. Sucks playing against fools who hide in corners and tap you out with a headshot as you look for them. Oh well, whatever it takes to win I guess...just not my style. No Xbox Live? Skip it and rent it to check it out. Xbox Live? I think it's worthy addition, practice alot though, you will die early and fast when first starting out.

Summary

Counter strike is quite an amazing game.Originally developed by a couple of teens as a free mod for the PC game Half life it blew open the doors on the multiplayer arena.I myself have spent untold hours playing the pc version and consider myself an adept player.I also believe I have a keen eye for quality. Since the first few hours playing CS I knew that the game just felt right and never inna game has my heart pounded so much, even after all these years. So here we have it The Xbox version. How could this game be enjoyable with a controller was my first question.Being that the mouse keyboard setup is ideal for fist person shooters. Many of my initial preconcieved thoughts about how this conversion would survive are adressed and I must say noone is more surprized than myself. The things I would have liked to see: Bindable controller keys(standard layout is confining ) More controller sensitivity options.(seems either too sensitive or too unresponsive)

Sound

Sound seems fine no real overwhelmingly blow your mind stuff goin on here.No sound track or heavy metal frag music crankin. Anyone who has played CS knows how critical ingame sounds are or the lack of them for stealth and Xbox version does all these thing justice.

Gameplay

Well its still Counter strike no questions about it.Intense action, addictive gameplay, easy to learn hard to master, very fluid, great opportunity for teamplay. Ive alway enjoyed the tension of knowing that when I die I die.In CS you must sit out the round after death unlike other multi games where you just respawn over and over. This mechanic enhances the tension 3 fold. But it also allows for you to watch others strategies and such in first person mode u can see what they see so death can be fun too.Plus you can chat it up with the other dead ones and form strats for the next round. The buy menu interphase is very well implemented also making it nearly as quik to buy your stuff as in the pc version. It will be a learning curve for PC veterans who would otherwise rack up the kills but even though i wasnt as good as i am on the pc I picked it up quik and it is a blast. Also The bots AI is some of the best ever seen in any game ever if they are set to professional or expert. But I would start at the beginner stage and amp up as you go.The bots are very dumb at this setting. And Please realize that bots are nice to get the feel of the game and to practice with but If you Want to get addicted to this game it will only happen when you go Live with real folks. WHATTA RUSH
