Summary the best computer game you can possibly play. yes it's pretty childish with the weird voices and gestures that the sims make, but at least you can run somebody elses live instend of your own.Sound most people don't like the sims becasue of there weird vocie and words, but i think it's hillarious.Gameplay fun, funny, and addictive. building houses is really fun. creating a sim is kind of hard becasue when your trying to choose a face for your sim, it's so tiny you can't tell which face you thick is the best. plus when you what to make it as real as possible and chosse your birth sign. the personality it gives you isn't anywhere near who you really are.Would you like to Comment? Summary Well after seeing the videos of the game first, it looked VERY 3D compared to the first Sims game! And indeed it is fully 3D this time around! I like the game fine, but I am going to tell you my complaints right now. First, the addition of DNA and genetics and really REALLY good life like animations (especially of toddlers) is great. But there isn't much choice for clothing, furniture, wallpapers for your house, etc. Seems to me Maxis will have a huge expansion ready to go soon, and they know millions will buy it, so why not make an extra 30 or 40 bucks per person, and leave out all the goodies in Sims 2? That's what Maxis seems to have done. They didn't jam-pack the game with the goodies! The game feels unfinished, like it begs for an expansion pack. Next, performance. Anyone who reads my reviews on this site, and I write many hah, I always review the performance. Here it is flatly: on high end systems, the game still slows down and stutters and chops. Sure you can disable many effects for the game, but then it just looks like a 3D version of THE SIMS. Maxis games ALWAYS have some kind of horrible game-lag issue. Remember Sim City 4? Hmm? The Sims 2 is no exception, it sorely needs a patch, and more freebie objects at the official site. Also, if you're looking to make furniture for the game? Good luck! You'd have to get the program called MAYA (freebie copy online, 136mb) to even BEGIN to make furniture! And there's no current tool to change wall paper colors or floor tiles or carpets, or add your own - yet. We keep hearing Maxis say "oh the extra tool is coming soon" - yeah well, ya should have added it in the first place, right? LOL Maxis knew they'd make a bundle off this game, and so they are - now it's time to wait and see how well they support it. Their forums are filled with nothing but (no joke) girls under the age of 18! I'm not kidding, heh. The tech support on the forum was written by retards, we all know to get the latest video drivers, duh, and even the latest ones dont ALWAYS help your game performance! Kind of a lack of tech support right now. I run a 3ghz machine, with 512mb pc3200 ram, and a GeForce FX 5700 video card. For those wondering. Yes the game slows down, especially with a lot of shadows, lighting and furniture and big shops you build or big houses. 800x600 is more playable but still, on a high end PC, the game should kick butt and run fast, alas it doesn't always.Sound The sound is actually several notches about THE SIMS sound. The sound effects are more sharp and clear, more pronounced. The television has more realistic "tv sound" now, and the stereo you can dance to, has more realitic music (you can add your own mp3 music to The Sims 2, just as you could in part 1). Sound effects of clocks ticking, the fridge humming, fireplace crackling... the game is very much so alive this time around, with sound. I've yet to experience the thousands of animations, sounds and what not in the game - you'll have to play the game for HOURS upon hours, to see everything, hear everything, etc. Gameplay rating gets a 4 because it can get boring some times. Sound gets a 4. Graphics get a 5 and overall gets a 5.Gameplay Game play, well... just picture THE SIMS, now put it all in 3D, where you can fully rotate the camera now, not just 4 different angles. You can now zoom in, so close in fact, you can see the WIRES coming out of the back of your tv set (yes the wires are even 3D!) The game basically is like The Sims, but this time, the game has a purpose - sort of. You AGE in the game! There are 6 stages: new born baby, and you puke on people (yes, it shows puke haha), then you have toddler stage, where your young child runs around and thinks everything is a toy. Then kid stage, under age 10 it looks, then teen stage, and teens can sneak out at night, pretty funny. Then, adult stage which lasts the longest - finally, elderly old fart stage, your sim is slumped over with grey hair, etc. Hell, even the furniture and floor tile in the game? Over time it all wears down and looks old, it's actually cool and a VERY subtle effect. The DNA and genetics in the game ensure your new baby will have attributes from mom and dad, and the facial features, eyes and hair are all weighed out equally. Do the kids you have look like mom and dad? Sure do! You can play the game realistically, and try to get married, have kids, then you grow old and die, and your kids grow, get married, add to the family tree, etc. Or you can cheat and turn aging OFF and never age. Or you can play the game any way you want. I play it realistically, aging and all. See how far my family can go and grow, and that takes weeks to get 1 or 2 grand kids, IF you live that long! You can find better reviews for this game online of course, so I'll stop here. And yes, you can now have more than 2 stories on a home. You can (its sort of a trick) have a basement, then 1st floor, then 2nd floor, THEN 3rd floor (or attic?) AND a roof - 4th floor - which can be a .... party pad, kind of, if you want. So you can make huge houses this time, and make bridges over water even. The addition of COMMUNITY LOTS is cool, they tried to copy from HOT DATE, but not very well! You can build stores, and I suggest you build small ones (large stores lag the game down). You can build a book store sort of, a small grocery corner store, clothing shop, game store sort of. You really cant build a wide variety of stores in The Sims 2, for now. But you can build them, then later, call a taxi and go shop at'em! You can bring family or friends, too, OR you can go alone and meet other Sims while shopping, and make new friends or flirt with someone new even. You can buy clothing, games, magazines, food, etc. You make the little shops, then your own house, play the game and it can be a blast. You dont HAVE to make a community shop/center, some are pre-made in the game, but they're just too fun to make, more fun than making your own house, I'd say. Finally, you get the weekends off, even kids do from school. But don't let your child miss 2 days of school in a row, or the CPS comes to get your child, haha.Would you like to Comment? Summary I am a game tester at maxis. I had already tried The Sims II and it is just awesome. It did not have all the characters that they are going to put on it yet but im pretty sure that it is going to be way better than all of the other sims. Now when i say all of the other sims I mean The origional Sims, The sims unleashed, the sims vacation, the sims house party, the sims living large, the sims superstar, the sims makin magic and the sims online. Im sorry if i missed any Sims games. Im not just saying that the game is awesome just because im a Maxis Game tester. Maxis game testers dont get paid and you don't work for maxis. They just send you the game, you try it out, write a review and then you send the game back to them. I have just about every single Sims. The only ones i don't have are The sims online and makin magic. What is diferent about the Sims II is that you can put doors and window on Diagonal walls and you can have III storyes instead of II. There are a ton of now items that you can buy. Big screen TV's. "Actually, HUMUNGUS TV'S"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Sound The sound is about the same as the other Sims but The sound might be a bit better on The sims II!Gameplay The gameplay is Great! you can chose the speed and lots of other things!Would you like to Comment? Summary I don´t know what is this game doing on Strategy titles, as your name says it is a sim, is like the real life, i don´t really know who would want to play a common life, it hooks u by a while until until u stop playing and say to your self what a waste of time, if u play it again you will get hook again, it´s a love hate relation, works to pass time without thinking in something specific, also u can learn what r your faults in real life and maybe apply some of the game to real life and better your self.Sound Not very good, u just hear muffled conversations and dialogs.Gameplay Make your caracters comfortable and disciplined, help them look for a job and make them succed in it as in their social life, build, shop, make parties, hey!! why don´t u do that in real life?Would you like to Comment? Summary The Sims can be discribed in one word: Addictive. When I first got the game I probably played for about 6 hours straight everyday. I have to say, though, after some time, the game gets pretty boring. All the more reason to make extension packs. Which, on EA Games part, was a very good idea. All in all, whether you like the game or not, you're not going to be able to stop playing it. Sound Sim language is hilarious. The idea of giving Sims their own sound was genius. It makes the game much more fun and realistic. It is also fun to try and figure out what they are saying, becuase for the most part, if you listen, you can actually understand them. The only annoying aspect of the sound is the same old jazz music they play. I know each song in that game by heart.Gameplay The layout for the The Sims is weird. I always feel like I'm either too far away or too close. Also, the fact that having more than 2 people in a house at once makes it pretty hard to keep everyone happy. The good thing about The Sims is that you become use to the way things work. After a while it sorta becomes encoded into your brain.Would you like to Comment? The more expansoio packs and downloaded hacked items you get the more fun it will be. Ive got to admitt you cant do alot on it e.g. smash a window, punch someone but like i said the more expansion packs you get the better and any way there is the sims 2 coming out in 2004 where the sims grow up into todderlers teenagers and old people and die of old age.Sound Cool but can get annoying after some time.Gameplay CoolWould you like to Comment? Summary This game is weak and sometimes fun ,but it gets very irritaing after a while.Sound The sound is what this game was missing, its mostly repeats itself again and again.....and when they talk on the phone it sounds like they need some cough medicine ,they talk all garbled up.Gameplay The gameplay gets routine, after a while i feel like punching out the screen,i tell one of the sims to use the shower then when he or she gets out they leave a puddle of water that a duck could swim on!!!!!Then when they eat dinner thety leave their plates on the floor and table then the flys buzz all over it,which is really kind disgusting,i have to mostly rely on the maid.I guess there are some intereting points to it ,one of them is when they dance and talk, but after a while they get tired to fast and get very sleepy, mostly they eat crap and sleep.Would you like to Comment? Summary The game that was supposed to be like Simcity, only you would control a family in the town instead of the entire town. To bad the game sucked when it was done...Sound The sounds are just plain worthless. The music sucks and you'll turn it off after a couple of minutes. And the sounds from the game is almost worse. TV's just play a looping sound sequence over and over and over and over... Computers are the same, and when the "Sims" talk, you'll want to cut your own ears off.Gameplay Well, it's kind of fun to begin with. You make your own family, name them and give them attributes. Then you buy a lot and build a house, and then buy furniture to place inside the house. Sounds like fun? Well it is, to begin with. But after playing for several hours it gets repeative and boring. Sure, it's pretty fun the first 10 hours but then what? Am I paing $45 for 10 hours of playtime and afterwards throw the game in the dumpster? F*ck that. Tell you what, make a sequel to The Sims maxis, or burn forever in hell, That's what I say. And to all you people who actually LIKE the game, and has bought all the expansion: I pity you.Cheers Would you like to Comment? Summary Its the most sucessful PC , maybe even most sucessful computer game of all time.on another note its preety laughable when people say the playstation version is better than the PC version. Sound The sound in the game is entertaining, even though all the sims say is gibberish it is still understandable in a way from the tones of their voice. I have heard some people say that they should have real speech but this is a stupid idea since it would slow the game down heavily and would require a huge amount of space to add all the voices.Sounds from all the appliances and items around the house are simple but of course very effective giving you the feel of the house when you are hearding some one chopping up food and them saying " ouch " as they cut them selves, to the bath running and a sim sliding in. Gameplay The gameplay is what makes the game , it is so darn addictive!!!!! some people might not like what seems like a repitive sequence of sending them to work and catering to their needs all the time, but if you concentrate on their need bars ALL the time then you wonted have as much fun as other people. The many many items that are available to your sims are all hugely entertaining Would you like to Comment? Summary Although I have not played the sims properly yet on a PC or any other format of gaming console it has come to my knowledge it's one of the best simulation game (or any type of game!) ever made.I have only ever played it for a few days on rent I Did not stop playing it once over a perod of 48 hours. I played it so much my body became so limited of food and liquids I was eventually diaganosed of severe dehydration and was sent to a hospital immeditaly. This is how addictive the game really is but I hope this does not happen to you! People always say you could not play god... but you can now!! Sound Sound would be topped of if you Sims spoke in proper language but learning their little Sim language is even better.Over a slow period of time you will know your sims inside out because of their convesation. They basically discuss whatever they want to telling you all their likes and dislikes while speaking to other Sims but having a Sim live alone can make them go cind if nuts. Other souns though like the T.V and radio music really do sound life like and makes you wan to play forever. Gameplay I found the gameplay extremley addictive (as my review from above shall tell you) but in all that a few general hours of gameplay makes you wonder is this happening to us?Life on the sims has been perfected so much it features details from taking out the trash to looking in the paper for Jobs it's mind blowing how much they have perfected it to. There is one down side though if you by this game you will have to say goodbye to you real life and survive on a simulated one were people do what you tell them to do! Would you like to Comment? The gibberish is SO ANNOYING and is has no point at all. Get up, go to work, cook, Ect. And these sims will die if they cant meet with there friends for five hours. I am really disappointed with maxis for once.Sound The sound is the worst. I usually listen to music because I cant take thier annoying gibberish! They could have put real voices in the characters but no they had to make them talk like babies and give them gay gibberish. The other sounds are realistic though, the fire, appliances, ect.Gameplay Gamplay is horrible. There are no points and you can forget about beating the game because it goes on and on forever. And when people get in your way you can do things such as miss work, greeting neighbors or missing the bathroom.Would you like to Comment? I would have never bought it except all these reveiws said it was so good and addicting. I took the game back this game is so boring. I don't mean its kinda boring its completly pathetic. You controll the life of a sim its like playing with a doll house. The sorta thing that a 6 year old likes to do. You controll the sims as far as telling them to read paper and look for a job. You tell them when to bathe and go to the restroom. What really makes it bad is the game has no point. There really isnt anything to accomplish. There is no story. The game goes nowhere. Theres nothing to finish its just one mindless stupid task after another with no purpose. Unbeleiveable bad game it amazing that its sold so many copies. How can so many people be amused doing one pointless thing after another? Just dont buy this game there are really some good games out there that really get you involved in a fun adventure and give somthing to accomplish. Sound This part is bad. I hate their garbled voices.Gameplay You click a sim then make it do somthing.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member. Summary The Sims are great and highly addictive, though it can get wearing trying to constantly keep the little guys happy. Having access to up to five neighbourhoods in the Deluxe Edition avoids infighting in our own household.Sound I love the background music when you're in the Buy mode. It's so relaxing, sometimes I go in there just to hear it! Generally, the sounds are crisp and appropriate.Gameplay Gameplay is well-debugged at this stage. Sims are responsive to your commands but show plenty of initiative when their needs are not being met! There's tons of cute features - from their sighs when cleaning the toilet to their staggering around when in need of sleep. One annoying feature is in the opening of the software where you can't press escape to bypass the "chaos generator" etc screen. It takes too long. But, the game itself is super. |
