Summary

This is an awsome game and is on par with it's earlier version. In the years that have past since Halo's release, I was hoping for a bit more from Halo 2. There are 15 missions listed in H2 but 1 or 2 are basicly cut scenes with little interaction! The menu setup in H1 was much better than H2. In my opinion, H2 is not the ground breaking masterpiece that H1 was at it's release. H1 was extreemly polished. H2 isn't. From the abrupt mission endings to the over use of cut scenes. Even the game itself ended unexpectedly. H1's music was absolutely perfect and fit the gameplay. In H2 Bungie tweaked all the music and some new additions are very nice, but many do not seem to fit at all. At one point the game breaks into a metal type tune that sounded absurd to the game. The music for the most part isn't H1's quality at all. There is the strange addition of a woman taking the place of Keyes, his daughter. What's that about? Listening to 2 woman talk thru your headset is kind of confusing. There were many times I could not tell who was talking, Keyes or the construct. Kortana's voice is distorted thru much of the game as well, like she phoned in her voice work. There are a few more issues with the game, but for the most part it is as good as H1, different, not better. The video game revolution that came with H1 isn't apparent in H2. In the 3 years since H1, Bungie should have pushed the development a great deal further and surpassed their previous release a bit better. That didn't happen. This is the danger in hyping a game. Expectations were high, but sadly unfullfilled. The biggest improvement in H2 over H1 is the online aspect. I haven't played online, but being the fact that online mission co-op is missing, I'll probably not go Live. Games like Rainbow 6 with mission co-op are awsome and what I prefer to play online with people. The other game modes end up being frag fests and basicly pointless. Some graphic advances are very nice. Online is H2's biggest improvement. As I say, H2 is a great game and superior to H1. It's sadly not the thrill ride I expected. This may be intentional. H2 does not make H1 a dead title. It keeps H1 desireable and the franchise collectable. I played thru in 18 hours on the heroic difficulty. Normal is so easy it's silly and legendary is insanely difficult. Many people have claimed that the assault rifle is the tool to use and it is, but you cannot find one thru most of the game, especially in alien environments and it is limited to 3 shot bursts which really blows. I was wasted many times while using the assault rifle simply due to the foolish 3 shot burst. There should have been weapons options. Bottom line: Great game, superior to H1 but not the revolution that H1 was.

Sound

Sound is great, but music and voice has low points.

Gameplay

Very little vehicle driving and flying in H2. There are many kool vehicle additions but not much use. Jacking the ghost is kool. Much of the gameplay footage I watched online which looked awsome was cut completely and not even in the game! Missions are well designed, but NOT with environments 10 times as large as H1 as Bungie's own claimed. Brutes are a pain when berzerking, but just jump over them.

Summary

I can't explain. Just read someone elses review! In one word: BREATHTAKING!!!!

Sound

One of the best parts about the game! The music is sooooooo dramtic, that everytime action starts, the music kicks in at the exact point!! With is having its own Official soundtrack, people are already nominating the music for a Grammy award!!! The voice-overs are no different! They are VERY well put together and the marines have over 12,000 lines of dialogue. So basically, you may never hear a marine say the same thing twice. Emphesis on MAY! Overall, if I thought the sound of this game is good on just 3.1, imagine it on 5.1 surround sound!!!!

Gameplay

This has to be one of the most addicting games I have ever played!!! With an incredable campaign and intense multiplayer combat, other first-person shooters have something challenge. With simply, hands-down the BEST XBOX Live experience EVER, I mean it!!! I have NEVER played anything like this before! I thought Unreal was intense, this is FAR mor better and the best thing is that I experienced no lag AT ALL!!!! JUST PLAY THIS GAME!!!!

Summary

I read lots of reviews before I find enough time to go and buy this game. I'm not crazy about XBOX and I am not a serious fan of FPS games. I liked Halo as the best FPS ever and I think BUNGIE made a great job in Halo 2. I believe this is the best FPS ever and I think its the best XBOX game ever. I never gave 5 points to any game, (even not to Splinter cell's that I love them so very much) but I believe this game is absolutely perfect and deserves a strong 5/5.

Sound

Using sound proximity in XBOX Live, is really smart. This means you will hear someone better if they are closer to you! Isn't that cool? The ingame sound is excellent. The music kicks in in the right time with the right pace. I love the sound effects. Even it is a bullet passing by you or the sound of a dead body, hitting the ground!

Gameplay

Gameplay is smooth and you'll find yourself really comfortable with the controls. Multiplayer is excellent and it makes your heart beat faster than ever!

Summary

Halo 2 is the sequal to the hit game Halo. But this time around Bungie must have not though when they made the game! I am a hardcore fan of Halo and have been eat, breathing and living Halo 2 since i heard about it. Then i got it. Popped it in my XBOX and i was shocked after i beat it. The story is very bland and short and the ending crappy. The gameplay was horrid. Bungie messed up royaly! They took Halo and updated it and added polised MP. The only thing i did like alot was the MP which is the onyl reason i am writing this review. The MP is amazing online. That much has improved since Halo.

Sound

There is one thing i do like alot and thats the soundtrack. Halo 2 like Halo has awsome music. At least if your going to buy the game. Play the game with the sound off and just the music turned up!

Gameplay

The gameplay at first is fun and gets funner with things like dual guns. But soon feels like Halo and nothing new and exciting like a sequel should be. The AI hasnt improved much either. I did enjoy some of the new guns but still felt like i was playing Halo instead of this new game that i was promised. The controls were a little hard to get use to again.

Summary

HALO 2 : The Covenant Strikes Back?? We loved Halo. Yes we did. It was the reason many of us shelled out our hard earned dosh to buy an XBox in the first place (and we're now very glad we did). The Master Chief is the embodiment of all that is good in humanity. We all see ourselves sporting the green/gold helmet and kicking the crap out of those little Covenant pests. This is the reason why we have been salivating all summer, pining like a lost puppy for the advent of Autumn and the release of Halo 2. I had read all the pre-release reviews. A 4/5 here, a 9.5 there. Even the odd o.t.t. 10/10 from hardcore fans (Nothing deserves a 10/10; a 9.9 possibly, but is anything really perfect?). So, I was standing in a pool of my own dribble as the lovely young lady behind the counter charged the game to my credit card and popped it into a bag for me. I got the game home and slotted it into the machine. The gorgeous music was back, echoeing like a ghost choir haunting my speakers. The beautiful graphics were also back, as was the outstandingly playable control system. Yes, it was Halo alright. I started into it and began working through the levels noticing a few new weapons here, a couple of new enemy there and levels that were very, very similar to the original. The gameplay is brilliant as you would expect. You feel more need to obliterate and experience more satisfaction in killing the enemy here than you would in any other FPS available on the Xbox to date. I played all day. I loved story, and I really enjoyed the plot developing sequences between levels. I won’t mention anything about how Bungie have progressed the plot as it is pretty good finding out for yourself. Then I reached one sequence that had me particularly excited about moving onto the next level and then, out of the blue, I’m watching the final credits. What? Are you sure? Ah jaysus I thought to myself – surely I haven’t waited all summer and shelled out sixty euro for a game that I have finished in little over 12 hours!! Well I had, and I felt pretty hollow about the whole experience. I don’t know what happened. Maybe my expectations were raised a little too high. Maybe expecting a whole new level of innovation, depth and gameplay from Bungie was a little too much to ask for. I have experienced this feeling of disappointment before of course – Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, Rainbow Six 3, Black Arrow et al, no better than the original. I expected a little bit more from the Master Chief though. I got the impression that Bungie could have put a few more levels into this game if they wanted too, but they needed to give us a reason to fork out again for next – and what will probably be the final - episode in the series. I know I am expressing mixed views here but that’s what Halo 2 will do to you. It is a cracking if very short experience. Imagine going on a rollercoaster blinfolded. You know to expect a wild ride but you’ll be a little disappointed when it finishes and you haven’t experience the loop the loop you were waiting for. Halo 2 is very very short. It does not offer any significantly profound development on the original. It does however play far better than almost any other FPS on the Xbox to date. I know that even though I sound fairly down on the game – this isn’t they most positive review you’ll read - I will still go out and buy the next installment as soon as it is released. That is after all why they made this game the way they did. If I can make one recommendation to you, my friends, it is this. Buy this game, but please, please for your own sake, set the diffuculty level to Suicidal from the very beginning. You will be killed often, and it will frustrate the hell out of you – similar to the utterly amazing and far superior Ninja Gaiden – but you will not feel the emptiness of knowing the whole plot in the space of one day.

Sound

Bloody marvelous. The best aspect of this game. You've gotta love the music.

Gameplay

Excellent. Smooth, addictive, more-ish.

Summary

This game doesn't really live up to all the hype before and after its release. Sure its a high quality game, but it's not as astounding as the first halo when it came out. Since there are not a lot of games worth buying for the box, halo 2 is probably worth the purchase. Just be warned that a lot of the single player stuff is repetitive even though it is always claimed that this gripe was fixed. The weapons, vehicles, and characters (especially the annoying flood!!!) get overused and boring. If you don't have xbox live or any friends or family to play multiplayer with, just rent the game. The way xbox live play is set up is very original and nice to use. But it seems like people on there play the same levels over and over.

Sound

The music was great, but i didn't think there was enough variety; certain tracks were played more than once in different levels. The voices were not as apparent and interesting as the first game. Maybe if i played the game again on a harder difficulty i might discover more of this though, but raising one notch in difficulty makes a huge difference. The arbiter character's voice was too human- like--they could have disguised the voice a little better. I don't think there is anything else noteworthy as far as sound goes.

Gameplay

The gameplay is good like the first game--fun to play and easy to master--but nothing too great is added. There are many new weapons but some of them like the shotgun, rocket launcher, needler, alien plasma pistol, etc are the unfortunately the same. Another gripe is that the tank and jeap are the same--even the graphics don't seem improved. The tank is used a lot in single player and it feels like the first halo or something worse. Lastly, other human AI players are lacking in a lot of levels. There should be armies of them and a squad level like the first game, but that was missing here.

Summary

I stood in line for two hours for this game with my friend. Once the long wait was over, we got in the cars and went home. When we got there, we got our Special Edition copies opened, put it in our Xboxs', and started playing. Right away I was blown away. The first thing I noticed was the amazing graphics. Every single thing in the game is so detailed. The suits, guns, scenery, and most of all, the vehicles. Then the gameplay. Right away I noticed how efficent duel wielding was. Especially when rushing into a base in CTF or Assault. There are a few flaws with this game, however. Not really flaws, but some let downs. Like the ending. I wont give it away, but it was fairly disappointing. Also, on Xbox Live you cant just pick a game in optimatch and go into it. You've got to be randomly put into a RANKED game. Some vehicles I expected to be in there, werent. Same with weapons. But beyond that, best FPS evar.

Sound

The sound is amazing. You can hear where the bullets are coming from, where are person is walking up on you from, which way a vehicle is coming, even the direction in which a person is if you hear them talking. Its truly amazing. The soundtrack is good as well. I really love the rock music that comes on when youre about to get into a big battle.

Gameplay

Better than ever. Rolling up on people in a ghost, shooting 'em up, then hittin' the boost and running them over. Great. Doing barrel rolls in a banshee to dodge a rocket. Great. The battles are amazingly fun. You can have a needler & a pistol vs a plasma rifle & a smg, and never know the outcome. Maybe earlier the needler & pistol won, but the plasma rifle & smg might win this time. There really is no cheap weapon anymore. Some say its the sword, but it isnt. It's very easy to take down the wielder if you know what youre doing. Very balanced and fun gameplay.

Summary

as soon as i read the review on this site for it, i had to register just to let people know how disapointed i really am with Halo 2, it does not deserve 5/5!! ok, so the graphics are slightly better, wohoo! but they still arent keeping up with the rest of the gaming industry, the gameplay was not much different from the first one; ok you could hold two weapons at once, oh joy! so now it can be even easier! and wow you can drive over a couple of people with a ghost, amazing! nothing too groundbreaking. The fact that you can get a tank on every level (ish)annoyed me too, why do you need so many vehicles?!! plain and sinmple... you dont!it just made the game easier and easier! the plot was better this time i'll grant them that, but still didnt really make any difference, it just meant every now and then you waited around whislt some alien went on about his beliefs in an American accent. i would have given this game 3/5 because it was worth a go at least, but im actually cutting it in half and rating it 1.5, simply because they cut the game in half. Instead of wrapping the game up properly you end up fighting a crappy boss at the end who takes no longer than 5 mins to kill, then you get another video telling you, well done thats the end of the game, instead of giving you another level to wrap things up, we're just going to charge you another £50 to do it because we are really that tight-assed. So look out for halo 3, im sure it will be just as bad. If you do get the urge to buy halo 2, just go pick up halo 1, play it for a few hours and then imagine an american alien talking every 10 minutes and congratualtions! you've saved yourself £25 and have halo 2!

Summary

A hugely hyped game such as Halo 2, following on the footsteps of the monumental original, is not the easies thing to sum up, so I'm going to approach this review from two angles. First, I want to look at this game as a stand-alone. If you are someone who has never played Halo (to begin with, where have you been), and you play this game, you're going to have an absolute ball (though you may be a bit confused by the storyline). On its own two feet, this is a wonderful shooter: fun, actionpacked, pretty good graphics, and neat music. The problem with Halo 2 is that it is not a stand-alone game. Let's get real, there just aren't many people out there who haven't at least played the original and probably not many more who have an xbox and don't own it. After all, as one reviewer said, it was the reason many of us went with the "Big X" to begin with (I know it pushed me into purchasing). That being said, all those great things I said about it being a stand-alone game? Well, it is...because Halo was...and this is exactly like Halo. I expected the same general idea, but the same graphics? The same vehicles? The same enemies? The same gameplay all around??? You can tout duel guns, a new storyline, and jacking vehicles all you want, but it amounts to what a PC Expansion pack would, not an entirely new game (especially at $50!). Now, I know I only played this for 13 hours, but, even with playing multiplayer with friends, it only took me and a friend on co-op 9 hours to beat the thing! So there's no need for 40+ hours to review this thing. I rented it because I had a hunch it wouldn't live up to it's hype (plus I was dirt poor at the time so I couldn't buy it). Will I buy it? Eventually...when the price goes down, only to complete my Halo set. But here's my recomendation to you. If you have Halo, don't rush out and buy this. Just play Halo, or if you really don't believe me rent it for a few days...it'll be enough. If you don't have Halo, then ok go ahead and buy it, because you've gotta have at least one Halo game, so it might as well be the newest one! At the end of the day though, there are a lot of other good games to buy, and I'm satisfied with playing the original for now. I hope the third one will be better, and, given the crappy ending I didn't even want to start on, there definately will be a third. I give this a 3 for it being a great game on it's own, and part of a revolutionary series, but couldn't go higher due to the fact that it just wasn't a sequel game...it was only more of the same.

Summary

I think I have to start like most people have when reviewing this game. I'll start by saying Halo 2 is a great game in that it has all the things you would expect a great game to have, the graphics are nice, the sound is brilliant and the gameplay is almost flawless. However, if you are a seasoned Halo player I'm sure you have picked out certain things this game lacks which made H1 so good. Firstly the game's story line is not as solid and appears to be very rushed, the irritating combination of caractors may be to some people's taste but personally I don't like playing as the Arbiter, the sole purpose of the Halo campaign is to wipe out the Covenant, not to assist them. I have noticed various graphical glitches during cut seens whereby sprites just pop up out of nowhere which seems a little unpolished in my opinion. For somebody who has not played or played very little of the original this game would be fantastic as it does not differ hugely from Halo 1 but I found myself wanting to pick up the greatly missed assult riffle but had to settle for the feeble and unaffective Battle Riffle alternative. Its small things like this that let Halo 2 down. It seems clear that for some strange reason Bungie favour the Covenant over the humans. In this game the majority of the time you are forced to use Covenant weapons which is irritating. The feeble selection of human weapons are few and far between and not very satisfying to use. This is something that Halo 1 had spot on, all through the game you could pretty much choose what weapons you wanted to use regardless of where you were in the game. I am tired of being forced to use Plasma riffles all of the time. Bring back the Pistol from H1 and give us a proper Riffle and we'll all be happy.

Sound

This is where Halo 2 really shines, the sound is awsome, lovely orchestral scores and thumping milatary tracks really add to the experience, the weapons all sound nice and chunky so thumbs up on the sound.

Gameplay

The Gameplay was a dead-curt from the start, all Bungie had to do was stick to the original formular and they would be onto a winner, the fun element still remains but for seasoned players its nothing we haven't seen before.

Summary

I think that Halo 2 is going to be, once again, game of the year. I enjoyed the 1st Halo but I found many of the levels repetitive and boring. They fixed that problem in Halo 2 by having very little repetitiveness. All in all I think this may be the greatist FPS ever made.

Sound

Ah Yes the sound. Well I thought the sound was awesome. The gun SFX were realistic as were the explosions and the death of enemies. I also thought it was cool that they used celebrities as marines. I think that the sound was realistic and great.

Gameplay

The Gameplay in Halo 2 is great. The campaign was great and long but it just left me wanting more. Me and my friends found a few glitches in the multiplayer level Coagulation. The glitch is that near the beck of each base you can drive vehicles up the wall. But everything else in the multiplayer is great. At first I didn't like Bungie having control in what and who I play but then you realize that just about every game they match you in, it's perfectly even teams. I'm still awaiting content download but I think they are going to wait a little bit. All of the game modes are awesome and challenging. They still have all the original games like CTF and Slayer but they also added games like Juggernaut, Oddball, and Territories. They even expanded on the original games. I think that it's great that they allow you to operate just about every covenant vehicle. It's also cool that you aren't hurt when you fall. This feature allows new tactical doors to be opened such as jumping down and killing someone with the sword or dropping into an enemy base by jumping out of a Banshee. Oh I almost forgot!!! Weapons,Weapons,Weapons!!! There's probably about 4X the amount of weapons than the last one. The new weapons include: Brute Shots, Brute Plasma Rifles, Covenant Carbines, Particle Beam Rifles, Covenant Energy Swords, Fuel Rod Guns,M6C Pisols, BR55 Rifles, M7/Caseless Suc Machine Gun, and the M68 Gauss Cannon(vehicle mounted). Oh, and one last thing. The duel wielding feel odd at first but then it becomes one of the coolest things ever. All in all I thought the gameplay was much better than the first.

Summary

Intro “Pick me up! Pick me up! I’ve got the flag!” This pretty much describes the last three years of my friends and I. I can’t even count the hours spent playing this legendary game. If you don’t yet know what I’m talking about, you have lived a sheltered life. Halo for the Xbox gaming system is one of the greatest games of all time and if you haven’t played it, stop reading right now and buy yourself a copy. Otherwise, sit back, relax, and enjoy this review. Conclusion Halo 2 is definitely Xbox game of the year and maybe even the best game ever. Its outstanding campaign tied together with the everlasting multiplayer will hold fans over until Halo 3. If you really liked Halo or even if you thought it was just O.K., Halo 2 is still the game for you. Now stop reading and snag a copy of this game!

Sound

Sound Halo 2 must be played on a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound system. You are missing out if you are just using two speakers. The game processes sounds as you play so if an enemy is behind you shooting, you will be able to tell and turn around because of the rear speakers. Most of the sounds in the game are right-on and sound like their real life counterparts. The same voice-acting is back and is average, to say the least. A major innovation in the online play is something called “proximity voice.” If an opponent is in your vicinity, they can make contact with you. For instance, right before you melee someone from behind, you can whisper something like “turn around,” right before you whack em’.

Gameplay

Gameplay Bungie added many new features this time around. One major addition is the ability to dual-wield. This brings a whole new dimension and strategy to the game. Almost all weapons can be dual-wielded. Notable exceptions are one-handed weapons such as the shotgun, rocket launcher, sniper rifle, battle rifle, and the carbine. Try using plasma pistol/SMG or magnum/SMG for the deadliest combo. Another feature is vehicle hijacking. It’s great feeling to knock an elite out of a ghost or wraith. The campaign mode is a breeze on the easy and normal levels, challenging on heroic, and impossible on legendary. The levels are nice and varied from outdoor earth levels to covenant levels inside spaceships. The enemy A.I. (artificial intelligence) is well done as grunts dodge grenades and others actually snipe you with the beam rifle. Compared to Halo, Halo 2’s gameplay by some may seem inferior, but after a few days, one will adjust. Overall, gameplay is awfully similar to its prequel, which is a good thing. It’s like Halo with gravy on top. Multiplayer Gameplay If Halo 2’s single player is a small McDonald’s combo, its multiplayer is supersize. This is what makes the game. Split screen and system link are back again but the Xbox Live factor extends the replay value tenfold and is designed brilliantly. Up to 16 players can play at once over the internet. Your friends list is easily accessible with a press of the ‘y’ button and you can instantly invite them to join your party. Once in a party, you can play either custom or ranked games. Custom games can have any game settings and levels you desire but ranked games are set in stone. They are chosen from something that Bungie calls “matchmaking playlists.” These games count toward your level, or rank, and separate the men from the boys. Bungie’s goal is to have every game be competitive. They match you up with people close to your level. If you keep winning, you move up levels and face tougher opponents. In the end, things balance out and you end up playing close games all of the time. This feature allows for more entertaining and challenging games. Communication with teammates can be done with headsets and the white button and is convenient in times of peril. My only complaint about multiplayer is the “cheating” that goes on. There are many glitches that need to be fixed so that all games will be fair. An example of one of these glitches is the “dummying” glitch. This allows a player to ride shotgun in a warthog invisible and invincible. They can be then dropped off next to the flag, pick it up, and be transported back to base. Other than this, playing online is a blast.

Summary

After three years of waiting, after reading countless previews and scanning thousands of magazines for pre-release screen shots until my eyes turned bloodshot with strain, after counting the seconds until I could race to the store and pick up my limited edition copy, I finally got my hands on what could possibly be the most anticipated game ever made. Unfortunately (and I know I'm going to get a lot of flak for this), I cannot honestly say that I am completely elated with the final result. Halo 2 is, in its own right, an amazing game, don't get me wrong. However, I feel that after years of media hype, this title does not live up to the high expectations it set for itself. When I first popped the game into my Xbox, I was expecting it to hit with a maelstrom of new features and vast improvements over those presented in the original Halo. I was extremely disappointed to discover that the game does very little to build upon the foundation it already built for itself. A few new weapons have been added, but most are just suped-up knockoffs of other guns, and do not add any new dimensions of play (with the possible exception of the brute shot). And while being able to dual-wield certain guns and hijack vehicles adds some spice to the mix, these features seem to be there more for the novelty value than anything else. In addition, I was extremely disappointed to learn that they have done away with the health bar of old, which takes away from a good deal of the strategy that made the old game so appealing. Low on health? Just find some cover and wait for the shield to regenerate, then you're back in the fray again. On the plus side, Halo 2 does improve in several other areas. The graphics engine, which has been totally redone, looks positively amazing now, and many of the cutscenes (alone with a terrific soundtrack) look more like a live action movie than a game. And if it's frenzied, fast-paced action you want, Halo 2 delivers it... in spades. There is no lull in the excitement, as the game moves seamlessly from one insane firefight to the next. More intelligent and resourceful AI (both on your side and the enemies') make things more intense than they ever could be in the original. In conclusion, I'm not saying that Halo 2 is necessarily a bad game, just more of the same (which is why it gets a 4/5 in my book). But don't be worried, old fans of the series as well as rookies will surely get their heaping helpings of gaming goodness here.

Summary

I got the limited addition which includes a dvd. the dvd is nice because it shows how it was made and all of the other goods. The game portion is what, obviously, really matters. this game is amazing. all of the hype was a little over the top but it is much better than the first Halo. The campaign is good but the Live is what really gets me going

Sound

the sound is pretty good. all the the weapons sound great, the ai's speach matches their mouth movements pretty well. its not groundbreaking stuff but it gets the job done. IF YOU OWN AN XBOX BUT NOT HALO 2, GO OUT AND BUY IT RIGHT NOW. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?

Gameplay

The gamepay is amazing. I haven't seen any glitching in the game itself. the ai is much more improved over the first halo. when you shoot at the aliens they react in a way that a normal person would react. they can take cover, hop on top of things, and strategize with the other aliens. other cool improvements are better armor, dual wielding, and boarding vehicles. i cant tell you ho much i hated watching my health and being run over all the time. now your shields recharge faster and if you time it perfectly as a vehicle comes at you you can hop on and rip em out. the best feature on Halo 2 is the ability to play on Xbox Live. if it werent for this the game would get relatively boring. it is much more fun playing games with people from all over the world because it offers a new challenge. if i had to i would spend double the amount i paid for it just because it is Xbox Live enabled.
