Gameplay

the gameplay is PERFECT you start out the first hour or 2 in mist which you cant see very well at the world map.you have 3 chocobo worlds chocobo forest, chocobo lagoon, and chocobo paradise which you can play chocobo hot and cold and find items and chocographs to play hot n' cold out side the 3 zones and in the paradise youcan beat the most devastating boss in the game ozma (i beat him uh huh o ya)then(after mist continent) you go to the northern continent and beat the leafa tree gaurdian and then there wont be mist until disc 4. like i said the gameplay is great and there are lots of side quests and try to get to memoria in 13 hours so you can get the exalibur 2 steiners best weapon.

Sound

Sound was excellent. Two excellent soundtracks were "Melodies of Life" and "Your not alone." Unfortunatly, the sound drive which is one of Square Soft's most frequent problems made the song sound 16 bit and lost a little of its true potential. Still this game has the best soundtracks I have ever heard and has brought out the best of the Playstation console.

Gameplay

Final Fantasy has a great gameplay. It is also one of the first Final Fantasies to ever express humor. From people to your characters as well as others. One person in Lindiblum states, "Leave me alone I have to remember something important I have to do!" Shortly after this phrase he remembers what it is, "I remember know! I have to take a dump!" Characters such as Steiner and Quina also demonstrate this humor in the game. I personally enjoyed this game as it was interesting enough to keep me playing,0_0. Another element included was bringing back four characters. This aloud people to use more stratagy when facing enemies or boses.(Ozma is one boss.) The Gameplay to me was interesting and is recommended for people who are starting at RPG's.

Sound

Now the music in FF has always been AMAZING.
Always setting the mood and very catchy indeed!

The music at times was really good and had a lot of ambiance and atmosphere. But the battle music soon grew repetitive and boring.

Not as memorable as FF7's and not really original but it is functional and sets the mood. Alright I'll admit it, I did find myself humming some of the tunes after playing, BUT ONLY SOME!
Nothing earth shattering.

Gameplay

Oh, nothing new here. Pretty standard FF-stuff. Summons are still in tact. Shiva and Ifrit still keeping up appearances. MP, HP and TRANCE (Limit Break) are all here! Then why do I complain? Because there is nothing new here. If you don't consider originality important then FF9 is a MUST!

Unfortunately I DO! Although the switch back to Medieval times was more than welcome and the addition of controlling 4 characters a major bonus it still isn't very original.

The game plays great, no arguments there!I don't know maybe my expectations were just to high I suppose.
Sorry, Just average I'm afraid.

Sound

Well, the god of game music Nobuo Uematsu has done it again!Splendid music that draws you deeper into the game's atmoshere!Kuja's theme is gothic and very excellent! Also the "MELODIES OF LIFE" are quite astonishing though i liked a bit more "EYES ON ME"of FF8!So including the crystal clear sounds of the spells, the sound as everything else in this game,is perfect!

Gameplay

The gameplay is truly as good as it can be in our world!Firstly the characters are lovely and magical. You play as Zidane Tribal a cute and clever thief who is a member of a gang of thieves called Tantalus who at the beggining attempt to kidnapp the beautiful princess Garnet of Alexandria who as they find out is quite sad with her life at the palace and wants to be kidnapped! So they set off on a journey which will change their lifes and teach them all about themselves friendship, sorrow, hope and companionship which are all the things Squaresoft is talking about!AND all of you who think that the story and plot is fairly simply and childish, know this,it's story is the best ever!Squaresoft has always been creating scripts which are fairly simplistic at the beggining and become more epic than ever later on!About the battle system,it is fantastic and brilliant as always! It may not be as deep as in FF8 but is very easy to handle and with a lot of depth, learning magic and abilities from equipment(simply brilliant!) and attaching crystals on them to use them! You have no idea how amazing and fun the gameplay is as you uncover the beautiful plot and leveling your heroes up!You will think that you are dreaming and not once you will find yourself wondering how it is all packed in!

Summary

This game was an attempt to bring back the feelings you got while playing the snes ff games. The game was pretty good, but it definitely wasn't one of the best of the series, but it is better than ff8. Barely. Actually the only reason this game is any better than ff8 is that it is more fun to play and actually feels like you are playing an rpg. Heres my breakdown of the game:

Story:
the story of this game wasn't bad, it wasn't great but it was enough to keep you entertained.

Mood:
I didn't much care for the always happy mood of this game, it didn't really feel like there was any trouble in the game at all.

Characters:
most of the characters were cool, except for your the main one, and the enemy. Zidane was a cheap attempt at recreating locke from ff3, but it didn't work. Zidane turns out to be nothing more than comic relief, and though he has a few moments where he is interesting, it doesn't last. Also your enemy, Kuja is the least threatening I have ever seen, in any rpg. I actually thought he was a joke character that was meant to fool you into thinking he was the main enemy, but you found out there was a much more powerful character pulling his strings, but as the story developed it came painfully obvious that this was the great challange the faced your party, a girly looking man who rides on a silver dragon. OOOOOHHHHH, scary.

Oh, i hope it doesn't sound like i totally hated this game, because actually i enjoyed it, i was just a little disappointed with it, and i though it had potential to be a much better game. All in all this game is pretty good, but it is no ff7, and its story is not going to be considered one of the greatest all time. Of course, i could be wrong.

Sound

Could have been better. The sound in this game didn't really create much of an atmosphere, but it wasn't so bad that i put the game on mute.

Gameplay

I liked the gameplay, it had a classic rpg feel for it, and the system for learning abilities was pretty good, in fact it was as good or better than the materia system for two main reasons.
1) you could master a skill so that you didn't need the item the skill comes from equipped to be able to use it.
2) each character had thier own speciality and skills they could learn so that all of the charcters were different, and that not every character could use any ability.

Other important gameplay factors in this game include having four characters in battle, lotsa min-games, and tons of sidequests. all in all this game is fun to play and the gameplay is the redeaming factor, and what makes it worth playing.

Summary

~I thought this was a really superb game, and overall the makers' efforts should be commended. Many people I know didn't enjoy it as much as I did, but to each his own, I say. There is only one way to find out: play it.

~Here are the reasons I personally enjoyed FF9. The cutscenes were terrific! The characters looked almost... well, REAL in a sense, rather than human, which takes us to another point. The characters for some people were a major disappointment, because of the 'Amano' drawings or whatever. I think they are creative, and for once the characters aren't so human looking--what's so bad about that? Sure, the main character has a tail, but really, it's Final FANTASY, not Reality or anything, so give it a break.

~The characters at first seem weird, seeing that they all look like aliens, but you get used to them, and they portray humans in a way, seeing as they all have human emotions, even Vivi, the black mage who doesn't know his past.

~Unlike FF8, FF9 kept me interested and awake, most importantly. It often seems like you're playing a rerun of other FFs because there is the same ice place, Princess Garnet resembles Rinoa in an uncanny way, and generally there is a familiarity about everything you do and everywhere you go. But this doesn't affect the fun of playing the game, if anything it enhances it.

~There are classes of fighters/mages in this game, like some of the earlier FFs: black mage, white mage, dragoon [warriors?] etc.
~The [playable] characters:

Zidane--first and foremost, the main character, a thief. He has very powerful attacks nearer the end of the game, and it is a good idea to have him in your party a lot of the time. Zidane is always chasing after the ladies, until he finds his true love;)...guess who!

Vivi--Aw...he's so cute, almost everyone's favourite character, and without doubt mine. He's a black mage, and is the most important party member, you'll want him in your party all the time.

Dagger/Garnet: The princess, who is taught the ways of the world by Zidane... She's a white mage. At first Garnet is priceless when fighting, being the only healer/summoner, but when Eiko comes along she will usually replace Dagger.

Quina: He? She? Anyway...Quina is a Qu, a very weird looking...animal...or whatever. S/he's very funny, a gourmet cook, and loves, over all things to eat frogs. Quina has a "eat" attack which is basically an "enemy skill" attack, where you can learn certain enemies' skills. This can be useful at times, but since that is basically all Quina can do, she won't end up in your party a lot.

Eiko: She's maybe six years old, and falls in love with Zidane. Well, you can see where that's headed. Anyway, Eiko is really cute at times and really valuable as a party member. She has few summons, but they are very good--for example Carbunkle, which casts reflect on every single of your party members. She is also a healer.

Freya: Well, there's not too much to say about her unfortunately. You don't get very much background detail on her. Freya is a dragoon fighter/warrior, and has a lot of interesting techniques to go along with it like 'jump', but she is just an average fighter so you don't often have her in your party.

Amarant: He is often, like Freya, cast aside for stronger characters like Steiner and Zidane. You hardly find out anything about Amarant, except he's a bounty hunter looking for Zidane. He has an attitude and acts very 'cool' towards everyone. But he learns his lesson in the end.

Steiner: He is an uptight knight, with a thing against Zidane. He must have high blood pressure!! Anyway, he is sworn to protect Princess Garnet. He is the most powerful fighter in the party, and has really good weapons, like Excalibur, Excalibur II.

There are a few more characters you play for a short while, like Beatrix, but there's no point going into them.

~For Final Fantasy fans [like me] there is no doubt you'll want to pick up this game, not just for collector's value...it'll probably become your favourite game. If you're a beginner in the RPG genre, you'll still love this game, and it's easy to understand, a great beginning game. For everyone else, this is still a must-buy item. But if you're still unsure, rent the game or play it at your friend's house, but I'm pretty sure you'll soon be buying one of your very own:).

Sound

Hm...Sound. The music in FF9 was excellent as all FF's music is. There is a love song that replays perhaps a BIT too much, but otherwise it's ok. The battle music, I have to admit, is not the best I've heard. It didn't get you particularly excited and in the mood for action. FF7's was a lot better. FF9's music was well themed and very well done overall but seemed to be lacking something, and even as of now, I haven't a clue what it is.

Gameplay

~Unlike previous FFs, FF9 lets you have four members in your party. This makes battles a lot easier, which might be a problem for people who like a hard game. But you have a lot of game to get through, so it will keep you occupied a long time, not to worry!

~The weapon system is interesting. For each weapon, you can learn abilities. To learn abilities, you need AP from battles. It's fun to balance out what to teach the characters...but can get seriously confusing too!

~As in all FFs, you can summon Eidolons, but only Garnet and Eiko can do this, so it is vital to have one of them in your party at all times. All the characters have seperate abilities so you can have a hard time choosing which character to have in your party!

~Side quests were amazing in this game. There was just so much going on besides the story. The standard card game was there, as WELL as Chocobo's hide and seek, from which you can gain items...AND you find treasures, and eventually get a golden chocobo...Wark~!

~One of the only complaints I have with FF9 is how easy it is!! The last boss, Necron, is one of the easiest last bosses ever! Other than that, FF9 is a great time passer, and not just that, I actually enjoyed it too.

~One more disturbing fact is that it lacks a lot of background for secondary characters like Freya and Amarant, which is unfortunate since they seemed like interesting 'people'. If these two topics had been touched upon, the game would probably be perfect in all ways.

~But of course, all Final Fantasies deserve a 5/5, which is what I gave this one overall.

Sound

YOu won't hear too many sound effects, but they are very nice [such as footsteps.] The music is incredible, though - the battle music is cool, as is some of the other tunes, particulaly "You're not Alone" and "Melodies of Life."

Gameplay

This game kicks ass! You can control many characters throughout the game, each with different abilities [for example, Zidane is a thief, while Vivi is a black mage.] The battle system is good, too. If you've played on recent Final Fantasy games, you should be right at home. This is, in fact, the first FF game I have actually played. As a Pokemon player, I also felt the battle system easy [yes, it is very similar to Pokemon!] You can also micro-manage your characters - you can attach different items to get different abilities, and choose which abilities to use.

Summary

Basicly it was EASY it was so easy compared to ff7 and 8 that if i spent as much time on 9 as i did on 8(57 hours)then i could of beat it like 4 times. It was cool and all but There was not enough GF's and there needed to be more sword using people and In my opinion vivi was the best in skill, magic, trance, and the coolest looking, but he SUCKED in the attack area and we was fun and care free so he was just like me :-). The intro wasn't all that great. Take 8 in the first mission(seeD feild exam) The robot spider was a cool clip i think that 1 clip was the best out of all the 9 clips and 9 also didn't have that very good story line it was cool doing missions from seeD but in 9 it was just go around saving vivi and finding out about garnet and zadine and stuff. The wepons were ok but realy everything is dull with out the gf's and drawing and stuff that was alot cooler.i would right more but time for bed so good bye all by "Phan The Man With The Plan"
