Summary

Well, when I heard about this game, I thought it was going to be awesome. I've been a hardcore Sonic fan ever since his inception, and he and I literally grew up together. After seeing, and witnessing first-hand the dearth of well-made Sonic games lately, i thought this was going to breathe life into the series, since we started with the atrocious Sonic Adventure, then gained a bit more with SA2, then with Heroes, but nothing like Sonic 2 or 3+Knuckles. After reading several negative reviews, I decided to try it out.

I didn't think it was anywhere near as bad as I'd been told. Sure, it has major flaws, but, still, who doesn't want to run around cackling evilly as you send some innocents to their doom, or just helping out by spreading some alien brains out on the pavement.

It'll keep you occupied for maybe an hour, and then it'll be too much. But you'll be back. If you want to play a quality sonic title, however, play the originals, Advance 1 or 2, Battle, or Sonic Rush on the DS.

I give it a 2 out of 5...I would say its only for hardcore Sonic fans who haven't abandoned the Blue Blur just for a few lacking 3-D titles.

Strength

This game's outstanding feature is its branching storylines. Every time you play through the game, something's a little different. The game has some 300 overall storylines, so trying to get them all's a challenge.

If you enjoyed Sonic Adventure, Adventure 2, and Heroes, possibly even Riders, you'll enjoy this title.

Also, everyone loves Shadow...

Weakness

Weaknesses abound.

As usual, the music is nothing compared to the glory days of 16-bit polyphonic tunes. I miss it. Also, the voice actors from Sonic X are just awful (especially Knuckles).

The games overall dark feel is no fun. It sucks all the life out of the cutscenes, and Shadow, Knuckles, and (I'm told, never heard him) Sonic swearing every 8 seconds just kills the juvenile feel of Sonic, and most of the time just sounds ridiculous ("Where's the d*** fourth Chaos Emerald?!")

The guns are mostly useless, as are the vehicles, unless you're going for countless missions where you must kill x humans/aliens to complete the dark/hero missions.

One question that'll plague you, and me: Is Eggman on the Dark or Hero side???

And for the last time, SONIC TEAM...FIX THE CAMERA!!!!
