I beat the single player portion of this title in about 10 hours total. That is not to say it is short really, actually it is a bit on the short side and left me with a feeling of wanting more...but that's ok, you can then go back through the missions with enemies randomized on spawning, plus you can also go back and play the maps in multiple game types, Supression, Free for All, Plant the bomb, Rescue the hostage and such. So, even if you do not have the ability to play it online you still have a lot to do. Although, I doubt I would have bought the game if online was not available.Sound The sound is excellent in this title. I can hear footsteps and know when a trooper is about to round the corner...good stuff. The gun and weapons sound just right, they also feel weighty oddly. the explosions from RPGs and nades are spot on. Plus the music is Rainbox Six inspired classy tunes, more good stuff.Gameplay The gameplay is not bad in single player, the AI is fairly stupid though, so don't go thinking it's like Halo or HL2 where the enemies duck and roll and hide...they don't. You can even usually shoot a enemy and his buddy standing right next to him sometimes will continues staring at the wall, brainless. At other times they come running and firing like mad with deadly accuracy and all...it's questionable AI. There are only 14 maps that I have seen, there are probably a few more if you can find a PS2 and SOCOM to download the extra content, but I have not done this and most likely won't. The multiplayer is where the fun is at in this title. In the single player version you have this lock on ability which makes the game too easy and playing with this ability in multiplayer tends to make it a "who's first on the trigger" affair, sad. I play this game daily with a few co-workers and non of us use the lock on and the game feels much more like Counter Strike when everyone agrees to play by our rules, or even a bit like Rainbow Six 3...excellent fun...as long as everyone obeys the NO LOCK-ON rule. I feel they should have made it so you can disable the lockon in the startup area when you are creating a server to play, a sad oversight I guess. Do not underestimate how fun this game is in multiplayer though, it is the future of handheld gaming, here, now. All the interface menues and lobby setup are professional and clean work, nice.Would you like to Comment? Join VideoGameReview for a free account, or Login if you are already a member.
